Mothman Returns: Point Pleasant Legend to Chicago Terror
This legend beings as so many do.
Three gravediggers, working in a cemetery hear something overhead. They look up and see a creature: almost ten feet tall with massive wings perched on a high tree branch; staring at them with glowing red eyes. Then in an instant, it's gone.
Three days later, just a few miles away, two young couples burst into the local police station. Terrified, they report being chased by a tall man with wings and glowing red eyes.
More and more people would report seeing a creature that stood on two legs, was at least 8 feet tall, and had wings.
Some said it was half-man, half-bird; others said half-man, half-bat. But that name that stuck was "The Mothman".
Though The Mothman terrorized hundreds of people for a year, it never physically harmed anyone.
But 13 months later, that would change. And 46 men, women, and children would end up at the bottom of the Ohio River.

I grew up in the finger lakes region of NY. My earliest memory is when i was in my bed and my window, that was very old and heavy, opened up and this terrifying creature crawled in. I immediately hid under my blanket with my teddy bear and held my breath and peed the bed because i was so afraid. I slowly looked over the blanket and saw this giant bat-shaped man with looked like a claw for each foot, and had black wings wrapped around him. The head was all black and I saw it was shiny from my night light! I quickly went under my covers and stayed there. Nothing happened, i didn't hear anything. I immediately told my mother how sorry I was for the bed and she insisted that I had such an imagination. Im 43 now and I still need a night light.

I'm watching this five months later, but I figure I'd chime in anyway. My father swears to have seen the Moth Man. He lived in Down-town Los Angeles (c.1970) and was walking through a neighborhood with a friend around 11PM. Suddenly, they noticed a very tall/lanky and limber, black-short-furred but naked "man" with bright red "laser shine" eyes and wings that looked like a moth's but translucent. They claim it was basically parkouring a few home roofs at a time. The wings seemed to shortly glide it more than flap/propel it. It was a dead-quiet night, yet there were no sounds of landing contact. It glanced at them briefly and continued until it leaped over a small building and kept going.
My dad's friend immediately committed-to and became a pastor. My dad was a very talented man who seeked the most out of life. That sighting made them rethink the value of their lives.

The father of a friend of mine said there was a big High School Dance the Night of the incident everybody felt off and knew something bad was going to happen. Yet they had the dance anyway if my memory serves me right her father left the party early it only found out days letter about the bridge collapse.

Well... The eyes were more glowing reddish orange like a furnace, and the height closer to eight feet. Very broad shoulders or the wings made it look like that. The silhouette was blacker than the night sky behind it. It was 1985 and I was 19 just sitting on the lounge chair watching TV when i had a feeling someone was outside in the back yard. So, I pulled the curtain back and saw this being and it sent an immediate flight (no pun intended) response to my brain. As fear turned into anger as i got out of the chair heading into the kitchen i got 2 knives holding them blades towards my elbows and headed into the back yard. saw nothing, but the air was colder in that spot where i saw it and there were no crickets or anything making noises. This sighting occurred in Tempe AZ. My 2 cents worth :)

I just adore seeing things about where I live. I'm about 45 minutes from Point Pleasant and I live IN the Shawnee Forest and let me tell you theres more than a little strangeness out here in these woods. We have mounds and tons of Native legends and of course the most wonderful cryptic ever. The Mothman. I would just love to have someone to tell all of the wild experiences I've had personally and also things I've heard from close friends and family. But let me just tell you that Indrid is probably the scariest most disturbing thing along with what I believe is most likely Shawnee dieties and spirits. Even in town IN PUBLIC PLACES things happen.

In the early 1970's one came to the back door of our house, which was in a wooded area recently cleared for our neighborhood. The next day, we found dander and feathers on the door mat where the Mothman was standing staring in at us before we ran frightened to ask grandmom if grandpa was playing a trick on us dressed as a bird man.
Later in life at a reunion party of sorts of old neighborhood pals, was telling the story about this "dream" about the birdman, when the other guy from across the room yelled, "Dude, it wasn't a dream, I was there! It really happened!".
And, no, he was not the type to speak up like that to mess around, not his style whatsoever. We flipping saw a Mothman, we realized years later, after seeing illustrations of them, the red eyes, the human torso, wings... and that face... still remember it clear as day.

The girls both came into our house screaming and crying that they had seen a large bird man with red eyes. My father and I went out to check but never found anything. A little while later whatever it was(we always joke it was moth man) took off and started flying towards us. It was massive. We both saw it and took off running into the house. The funny part of the story is that my bestie had hip surgery only months before this so he kinda waddled quickly like a penguin into the house yelling. We were in the 9th grade. Good times.

@@ooneybird27 There is a road in San Antonio with a similar effect, though I've heard some have debunked the "incline" as being an optical illusion. Still, the road itself is creepy as can be, and I once saw something I couldn't explain a little further down the road as I was leaving the area.

In the fall of 1995, in Barberton, Ohio (just outside of Akron), my best friend and a guy friend were driving by a very old cemetery near my home (on Swigart Road). They described seeing a large creature with red eyes that flew/chased the car and kept up, no matter how fast he drove or what turns he made. One second it she saw it in the side view mirror, the next second he saw it in front. They said it bolted from front to behind effortlessly, and only disappeared when they turned onto a main road with heavy traffic. (None of us-just kids at the time-had ever heard of the Mothman). I wasn’t quite sure I believed it until she made me tack up blankets over my bedroom window (you could see the graveyard in the distance from my house) and push my dresser in front of it. She also insisted on sleeping with me in my bed and literally wouldn’t even let me go to the bathroom without her because she was so terrified at what had happened. Neither of them have spoken much about it in the years since that night, since our other friends (unfortunately) made fun of them, but I believe them both. You just can’t fake that kind of terror.
Interesting side note: I am of mixed blood, part of which is Shawnee from near the Point Pleasant area.
Personally, I enjoyed your video very much, but I will likely not share it with my friend as I fear it may actually retraumatize her. I know of no other sightings in that area, or any incidents involving that cemetery (beyond accidentally crashing my bicycle there 🤭🤭). Just thought you would enjoy this little piece of personal history from a new subscriber!

I'm friends with the son of a retired game warden in ohio who traveled with their dad to crazy isolated places like hunters huts in the wilds of Alaska.
They had taken a trip to Point Pleasant once. Told us some stories of things they encountered while there. This is someone I've never seen scared, but the look in his eyes when asked if he would ever go back....all he said was you couldn't pay him enough to go back.
