    Jess, your husband is very wise and I am so glad that God is allowing you too to grow in grace together. Definitely incorporate more Bible study together. It strengthens you both and definitely the marriage. I still live with my parents since Im not married and my son, and we have Bible study together throughout the week and I have Bible study with my son every morning (he's 11) Mon-Fri. It helps with dealing with offenses and really letting God's joy, peace, rest and love be your strength through His word, prayer, and worship. It really is all about the fear of the Lord. Just reverencing Him in every aspect of our lives. You guys are beautiful people in the Lord. Just continue walking with Him and you will continue to grow in Him. Just remember, we will always be persecuted for His name sake. We still have to walk in love and trust me, that can be HARD!! BUT.......as Jonathan says, just pattern after Jesus. Sorry so long 😢. Love you guys!!!! More blessings for you both!!!

    My husband and I just had Bible study the other day and we discussed the power of a woman’s tongue and how it can have a negative impact for generations after.
    We were referencing Rebekah in genesis and how her jealousy made her persuade Jacob her son to deceive his own father to take Esau his brothers birth right. But then that decision led to Jacob being deceived later on his quest to find a wife and having to work for the 14 years instead of 7 because he really wanted Leah as a wife because she was prettier than Rachel.
    I think sometimes we forget how our words have power but also consequences to people around us as well. ❤
    This was a great pod episode. Thank you for covering this topic! New subscriber here too!

    Blue Letter Bible helps me a lot. Sometimes it's hard for me, as a millennial, to tell when the Bible should be taken literally or when it's a colloquialism or metaphor. It's amazing that we live in a day and time where resources are just at our fingertips. Thanks for being so open about your studies and your faith ❤

    I pray to God for forgiveness of saying things that were hurtful to people years ago. My tongue could be a knife, I had no filters, said what I had on my mind and walk away leaving the person shocked. Now I really wish I had never said those things, how could I have said that? I’ve even thought about apologizing on Facebook to everyone I hurt with my words. As you get older , I’m 70 your mature fan👋🏾 you think about it and have regrets. I’m glad that you recognize that you are being unkind, the Holy Spirit is a wonderful person to know🥰. Let’s continue to pray for each other to be careful with our words.

    this was such a good topic. I agree that our culture and society almost boastful about being petty and toxic. I feel like the reason we may have the propensity to retaliate rather than respond with kindness is we want people to respect us enough to not "try us". A lot of times, being forgiving can almost serve as an invitation for people to treat you any kind of way, and no one wants to be the push over, so they react in a way that will protect them from that.

  • @shai2c154
    @shai2c154 Месяц назад +9

    It's funny that I try to think about the real issue when something happens. When I know that I want to react a certain way (not Christ-like) I always remember that it is satan that is trying me. And for that reason I try not to reciprocate the energy, because I know that is what satan is looking for. So yes I also use the pause button in these situations and remember that we don't wrestle against flesh and blood

    Great topic. People will use these types of verses to manipulate others so clarity is great. There are Bible verses that teach how to deal with conflict so if Jesus expected us to just continue to turn the other cheek and allow people to slap us then He wouldn't have given the tools to deal with conflict. I agree with Jess it is a metaphor and there needs to be a balance/resolution.

    Also it's not about walk away. Overall you should always protect t yourself. So no matter what situation or experience that happens to use your judgment on how you should react. Because that's like someone attack you and you do nothing back. You should defend and protect yourself. As much as church says that if something happened to either of you definitely your parents will react and defend you accordingly.

    It really comes down to your belief of what truly happened at salvation. The scripture says that those who were saved and filled with the Holy Spirit, we are new creatures and Christ now lives in us. So now knowing that Christ lives within me, I choose to live just as He did in order to not defame His name. It’s no longer my life to live or defend, it’s His and He didn’t defend His own life so we shouldn’t defend ours. Also, our response as Christians should never look like the response of the world. The world could easily walk away from a situation where they are hurt, but they wouldn’t put themselves in the position to get hurt again. But Christ would. The world sees that as weak but it is actually power. Reading the Word has helped me to learn the actual power that we have as saints. Love you guys!

    While I agree that it is not healthy to say everything that comes to your mind. To not take “the pause“ and rephrase what came to your mind, can possibly result in unresolved issues that will come up in future disagreements that have nothing to do with the previous disagreement. I agree finding resolution is the key, even if the paws last days two weeks two months. Couples must come back to put resolution and closure and understanding to move forward to not repeat the past this is something that me and my husband almost 15 years to learn.

    You two are correct. I am still a work in progress. But I do recall a few occasions in the past where I put the other person first and it turned completely around. Realizing the person is coming from a place of hurt and those situations either not feeding the negative energy by being quiet, I communicated feeling hurt rather than lashing back, clearing the intention behind my words/action... The situation was descalated and we talked and healed the matter. But I also feel that is a lot easier to do with someone who is willing and who is fairly healthy. But a toxic person...NOW THAT’S WHEN I NEED GOD’S HANDS TO BE ON ME CONTINUOUSLY. CONTINUOUSLY!!!

    I just saw a video by the Bible project which explained this wonderfully. Basically back in the days the Romans slapped their subordinates with the back of the right hand against the right cheek. So Jesus asks that you turn the other cheek, so that the offender is forced to slap you with an open palm against the left cheek which was how you slapped an equal back then. So once the see you as an equal they will come to they realization that they need to treat you kindly

    Sometimes it is hard to be a christian.People can just get under your skin or do things to make you mad. Turn the other cheek helps when you ignore the behavior and say a prayer in your heart asking God to help you not to fall into sin. There are times you have to put people in their place but in a assertive way. Use the phrase: What would Jesus do? Or you said it best when you say nothing at all.

    Y’all should watch the most recent video from the Bible Project on turning the other cheek. It’s only 8 mins long. They’re doing a series on the sermon on the mount and you opening to this podcast reminded of that video. In the video it talks about why Jesus said turn the other cheek. It was bc back in that time they could backhand slap you with right hand to show dominance, but opened palm right hand against your left cheek forced them to treat you as an equal (human). The video does a better job, you should watch it!
