    I don’t know why a manufacturer would want to go all in on BEV’s only until the infrastructure is ready to support it. BEV’s suit a certain market and climate. ICE serve certain markets/customers needs. Toyota has their strategy right to give a mix of BEV, PHEV, HEV, and ICE vehicles. BEV doesn’t mean it better for the environment considering the precious metals required for batteries and the manufacturing and mining processes. Not to mention most of the other components are petroleum based.

    • @dogphlap6749
      @dogphlap6749 Год назад

      What precious metal are required for EV batteries ? None as far as I know however you do know that all current ICE vehicles have platinum or rhodium in their catalytic converters and those are the rarest metals going (hence the high cost and why that part of the exhaust system gets stolen so much). By the way rare earths are not rare although the difficulty in separating a rare earth from very similar but different rare earths does tend to push the price up a little.

    Ryan nailed it, the BZ4X is perfect for around town errands and daily commuting for the family with two cars but sucks for road tripping. Lots of room to take the kids to/from school and be a shopping cart. The body panels thing is weird to me and looks like mis-matched replacement parts after a fender bender. Just need some Bondo to complete the look.

    • @BassRacerx
      @BassRacerx Год назад +4

      50 grand to unchain yourself from gasoline just ... defeats the purpose. just buy a used car for less than half the cost and keep paying for gas until the price for BEV comes down.

    • @Deetroiter
      @Deetroiter Год назад +2

      There’s a part of me that wants to think this is a way to force people to drive less. They’ve tried proposing paying by the mile, etc and people would never go for it. So what better way to cut peoples driving habits down than to force cars upon them that have limited range and even more limited places to charge them? There’s definitely not enough charging stations being built for ie many EV’s are being put on the roads. Makes people think twice about taking a trip when they have to wait to charge or takes much longer to arrive.

    • @BassRacerx
      @BassRacerx Год назад +2

      @@Deetroiter the issue public chargers is that for the majority of gas stations very little if any profit was made by the gas station owners on the gasoline itself. All of the profit was made off of selling snacks and cigarettes inside. So public chargers would have to be linked to someplace like shopping, theaters/ restaurants ect .

    The reason for the gauge cluster placement in relation to the wheel I think is the fact that they’re going to replace the wheel with their variable ratio steering yoke in the near future. If you place the yoke the placement starts to make sense

    • @benjaminsmith2287
      @benjaminsmith2287 Год назад +1

    • @john1701a
      @john1701a Год назад +1

      Don't like the reasoning of safety? Much like a heads-up display, having it pushed back and above the wheel provides easier viewing. You don't have to refocus your eyes or take them much off the road to see that. With a traditional speedometer, there are sacrifices people have just grown tolerant of.

    Nice review. Something not mentioned in the review but I would consider crucial in an electric vehicle is electric route planning for road tripping. I know there are apps available that will support the need but I think manufacturers should have a plan and build that into their systems.

Each of the countless testers is enthusiastic about the driving characteristics. In Norway, the Toyota is ranked #2 in new registrations in October 24. The first gasoline engine is in 23rd place. That means something. The test drive was just impressive for me. After the first turn in the city (Dortmund) I felt very safe in the car. you don't notice the weight or length of the vehicle. in the usa it's certainly more of a small car 😅

'Murica denied the yoke on the bzterra but allowed it on the equivalent Lexus product. Go figure.

      The issue with the cubic foot measurement is not everyone calculates it the same way. Subaru changed how they calculated it not long ago and the net effect was that the overall number went down even though there were no actual changes in the cargo area.

Can go anywhere I want at anytime without second thought. And aside from the acceleration of the tesla, the Subaru is just more fun to drive. It’s too bad Toyota couldn’t employ the Prius’ latest design team on this one as this is clearly a Toyota case of ‘must make it look different’ vs. ‘let’s make it look attractive’ and that reduces its desirability in magnitudes. The China market clearly illustrates the sales detriment of this strategy. Although the Prius also uses the forward-positioned driver’s cluster, its more rational overall interior design mitigates this questionable feature more than the BZ’s does.

    No, don't recommend the AWD. Not in North America. It has slower charging CATL batteries thst max at 100 kW compared to the FWD Panasonic batteries, and I have never seen it charge near that speed personally or with RUclips car reviewers, regardless of temperature outside. Also, not only is this car bad for winter road trips, but all longer road trips beyond 400-500 miles, because Toyota restricts fast charging to 2 cycles from 10-80% per 24 hours. This is buried in a tiny footnote on their faq, and their salesmen don't know about it. Sure, it's roomier than a Bolt, but at least the Bolt can hit advertised peak charging speeds, and doesn't restrict fast charging per day.

    I takes as much power to recharge batteries from the grid since most countries are still using coal/gaz to produce electricity. Don't get fooled by the "it takes more energy to create hydrogen" mantra. And it takes more energy to create batteries than to produce an hydrogen car completely. That's not even counting on the polution it takes to create batteries (that are not made to be recycled yet), and we are left after with toxic waste of the production and disposal of the batteries.
    And this BX4X is a FWD Solterra if I understand this.

      Honestly, who thought that putting batteries in an already heavy vehicles like a car and add +1000-2000 lbs more would be worth is beyond me. And also the need to have 600+ hp and 600ft/lbs of torque electric motors is non-sense.
      Hybrid is a nice compromise for now and the best thing imo. But anything that requires to be plugged in to recharge is not the way of the future.

I'm holding out on that considering my province has just approved about 20 billion in investment from the European market. I'm thinking full electric is a stop gap due to the needed updates in the full electric infrastructure. Apparently the USA. Infrastructure would cost trillions and now that states have discussed limiting power it'll be interesting to see what wins out.

    I sat in a Solterra and liked it. The main problem I have with EVs is that they still don’t make financial sense. The money you save from less maintenance is nowhere near the price difference. What’s even more bothersome is that they are taking money from working Americans to help subsidize EV purchases.
    If they can find a way to make this vehicle for 40k or less more people will buy, but in the current state of things I don’t see EVs becoming mainstream in the near future.

    This is Toyota reluctantly and halfheartedly making an EV. This is way behind the competition but I’m guessing they won’t make many and they will sell on the Toyota reputation. The questions it how much market share Toyota will lose while it drags it’s feet. They need a bigger battery in this and bigger motor up front, perhaps the same one they put in the Rz 450 e. This is a very ugly vehicle but the Prius of years past proved Toyota has no problem selling ugly vehicles.
