Had my new SSD for over a week and still didn't know if I had all the steps down to replace the old drive. This video covered it all, now I'm ready to do it. Thanks!
You're a life saver! Thank you so much. I got some misinformation from some other you tubers who skipped the disk utility format drive part and went straight from booting to reinstalling by either pressing option and power button or cmd r and power. My drive wasn't recognized but when I followed your steps, it worked! I was so worried and angry and then your vid saved the day! Thank you so so so so much!
Best tutorial videos ever!! My HHD failed me yesterday, I want to put a SSD in, I've Been so scared I'm going to mess it up but the video has giving me the confidence to take on this challenge 100%!! Keep the awesome videos coming!!
You totally saved me.! I installed the memory last week and everything went seamlessly I receive my SSD today from crucial and did the install myself again. Thank you so much I completely forgot I had to erase the SSD!!!
Phenomenal! Great teacher! I did lack the confidence to do the swap, and had read that the SSD would be faster and more efficient. But through this demonstration I am confident that I can do this and look forward to coming right back here and giving you a 2nd thumbs up!!
Followed both your videos on installing the SSD and creating a USB boot drive and everything is working perfectly. Thanks for the videos :)
Thanks for showing the complete installation not just the hardware, much appreciated!
the video was very descriptive and easy to follow you didn't talk to fast and your voice was loud and clear, thank you for the video
Excellent video. I am about to perform this upgrade. Your explanations are very clear, I think it would help people who are not instinctively good with computer hardware. Or those like me who are a bit rusty from the ATA and EIDE days.
Wanted to thank you so much for guiding me through my ssd install. This video took all my worries away. Thanks a million.
Thank you so much for this video. I'm upgrading my mid 2012 MacBook Pro with a 2TB SSD from Samsung but I was a bit concerned not knowing exactly what to do I had an idea but not the full picture. You're video just gave me the confidence to upgrade my MacBook. Thanks!
Finally a video that goes beyond the act of replacing the hard drive and explains how to get it running again. Thank you.
thank you so much! very helpful and easy to understand all the steps
Thank you for this video. I was able to upgrade my late 2008 aluminium macbook from 4gb ram with a 320gb hard drive to a crucial 8gb ram ddr3 1066mhz and crucial mx100 512gb ssd. OS X yosemite was already installed but I just reinstalled the os and used the time machine backup to restore my existing hard drive. Yes I can see the speed difference already. Should keep me going for a couple more years!!!
this is actually the most helpful video out there thanks so much!
I like the way you go slow and clear. Thanks
You made this very simple, thanks.
This was VERY VERY Helpful. Thank You
This was very helpful. Thank you!

Great Video. Thanks for sharing @sakitech
Excellent procedure video!
very simple and easy to understand
Awesome video! Was exactly what I needed.
Very good tutorial! Have my like, my good sir!
To put it simply, they use the same technology, yet the parts in an ssd are of higher quality and better technology, making it considerably faster. It is also based on the interface used. There are also some other things to consider but I think that answers your question.
I'm considering the upgrade to a SSHD. This was really helpful in showing the ease of doing it. Thanks.
Nice Video, very good explained !
Thanks a lot. I appreciate the clarity.
Excellent video very informative ,
Straight , on point . very well simplified for any novice
Thank you so much for this. Very very useful video.
Successfully did a clean install on my new SSD. Carry on uploading these useful tutorials. Thanks again!
Many thanks for this video. It was a tremendous help.
amazing tips. I am newbie to the macworld but I have upgraded my mac by following your tips. Thanks a lot mate
Dude! This is one best and most simplistic video that I have ever seen on how to restore a Mac operating system along with such a major hardware upgrade like an SSD device. I am going to use a SAMSUNG 850 Pro SSD instead but the procedures remain fundamentally sound...Even a caveman can do it.
Good Vid!
Cheers!
Awesome video. Thank you a lot for that excellent explanation step by step.
Great video! Very articulated! I like it!
Great info. Thanks.
Thank you so much. Your videos are so clear!!

Thanks, great guide to upgrading.
This was good advise for me.
Very nice job thanks alot
great and clear procedures
EXCELLENT video... Thank You
Thank you so much for this video. Your instructions are flawless. I used them on my
Early 2011 MacBook Pro i7 - 8GB RAM running Yosemite
Yosemite had slowed my Mac down to a crawl.
After installing below SSD, my mac feels better than new! Lightning fast!
Samsung 850 EVO 500GB 2.5-Inch SATA III Internal SSD (MZ-75E500B/AM)
Thank you so much,
Thank you very much! very helpful!
Great job!
Absolutely. Install the new SSD, power on Macbook, format the drive and do a re-install.
By the way great video!
Thanks for the video, 100% working. My mac if flying now.
nicely done!
No big deal. Regardless, the launch of apps is instantaneous. Watch my other video where I do a full SSD Performance and Speed Test after the upgrade, while making sure the apps were not already active. Video link in the description of this video.
Instantaneous! LOL nice!!! I'll be doing my upgrade with an SSD using your vid for a fresh install, thanks a bunch!
yeah the man thanks for the help
awesome.. thanks alot
nice job bro, thanks
Well, SSD is flash storage. You must have meant going from a traditional hard drive to a solid state hard drive. If you go from a regular HD to a SSD, you gain significant speed boost. So significant in fact that you will not even care about storage capacity. You can always carry a portable external drive for large video files.
Thanks so much!
Thanks for the video. I successfully saved some money by DIY. Awesome.
I think you should add how and when to detach the power from the battery to the MoBo. I understand it's not a completely necessary step, but still very good practice and reduces risk while using screws and screwdrivers in close proximity to the MoBo and other components.
13", Early 2011
Thank you.
me foi muito útil, gostei muito! Obrigado.
Very interesting video, thanks, you make it look so easy, which I expect it is, Just a bit nervous not having all my files at end of it. I already have time machine backup, I hope that keeps all my files?
thank you so much :}
"Pop, instantaneous!"
cool man so good!!!!
Thank you
* WARNING * I did this upgrade last weekend and it works really well. The SSD is super fast. I also installed more memory and my old Macbook Pro is now like a new one. It really was very easy to do. HOWEVER, be aware that if you are using Microsoft Office for Mac, you will need to enter the Product key again. So make sure you have the original Office DVD's or CD's before you start. (Unless you don't need Office anymore) - (I purchased a newer version of Office because I couldn't find the original discs that I installed 5 years ago)
If you have luck like mine, you'll probably find your OEM Office disks in about two weeks, now that you have spent the money to buy a new version of Office. :) lol
Kevin Philip How do you do that?
go to mac-torrents.com
So weird, I did the SSD and Ram upgrade as well on my MacBook Pro a few days ago and office was working just fine. I didn't need to put any serial key or that sort of stuff... Guess I was lucky.
two words, Pirate Bay.
thanks man
very good
This is a super tutorial! Have one question: Can I do a SSD installation on my Mac Mini?
amazing, I'm so glad i found this video, can you tell me how can i tell before i open it if its a solder in HD ?
Thanks for the tutorial. I have a question though: I have the installation CD of snow leopard, and I'm currently running OS X Mavericks. Does migration assistant does the update, or I have to update the OS X before using the migration assistant? I don't know if you talked about that in the video, but I can't hear, I just saw it.
Thanks for making this video! I have a question that is it a must to install the system using a fresh copy of the MAC OS X before using a time machine to reinstall my data? Could I immediately choosing restore from time machine?
Just to let you know, my MacBook Pro, which is a 2014 model, uses a special screwdriver to open the case. I tried the P-0 and various torque driver bits. I was able to trick two screws out, but that was the best I could do.
I did in 3 steps:
1) Took back up my MBP & Boot Camp using Stellar Drive Clone
2) Opened up MBP (took 10 minutes to loose 10 bolts, replace the HDD with SSD and then tighten the bolts)
3) Booted up through System Preferences
I like the video and instructions. When you were about to restore using the TimeMachine backup from the old hard drive, how did connect the drive to the MCB? Did you use any special hardware?
Beautifully explained, very good video. What Macbook Pro is this one on the video (because I've seen different videos with different 'interiors')_ Thanks for the information.
Hey Saki, awesome vid, thanks for the very helpful tutorial. I'm currently on Yosemite, and want to install the SSD. Do I need to reinstall all the way back to my original Mountain Lion OS? Or can I just reinstall Yosemite once I've installed the new drive?
Thanks! Will it allow me to update my macOS in the future??
Loved the video. You're an excellent teacher. I have a very early (2006) 15" MacBook Pro model 1,1. I'm topped out at OS 10.6.8 Snow Leopard. Do you think these procedures will work on my machine? I'm wondering about the guts of the computer... do you think I'll hit and differences? Thanks in advance. I'm a subscriber.
Enjoyed your video. I am wanting to install a new ssd in my mac mini. I also use a time machine backup and would want to bring back my documents, apps , etc. I like the idea of the clean install of operating system, i.e, getting rid of "trash" files that accumulate over time but will restoring my data from time machine bring the "trash" with it?
