    I found you had the best instructions for the SSD upgrade, I just followed each screen and had absolutely no issues. Thank you for this mate, my boot time went from 10 minutes to under 20 seconds! I did both a 16GB ram upgrade and Crucial 1TB SSD - amazing improvement to a 10+ year old MacBook Pro!

      @@zevstriker ik its a late reply but i did the ssd and ram, i have a 2011 macbook pro and i found two DDR3L (DDR3 Normal will work the L was the only one in stock and it just uses less power but you'll be fine with normal ddr3) two ram sticks each on 8gb which are exact;y 1333MHZ which is what the laptop will maximum support.

    this video was of great help! thank you very much! successfully found and bought the same Crucial MX500 1TB HDD and bought a RAM set 16GB based on your specs.
    I had to install the OS using CMD ALT R and then delete the entire partition ac create new one manually. disk erase just didn't help. after first set of updates my boot loader was damaged.. idk why. luckily for me first aid feature of disk utility did resolve the problem. as you can see it was not so smooth like portrayed in the vid but eventually I've got it running

    7:51 - so I get a different option when following the instructions in this video: my Mac goes into “ Internet recovery mode” and asks me to select a Wi-Fi network? Is this normal, should I try connecting to Wi-Fi? I really don’t feel comfortable doing that while it’s trying to recover. Any advice?

    • @TechandDesign
      @TechandDesign  4 месяца назад +1

      you need to connect to WiFi so it can download the macOS and install it.
      why would you not be comfortable doing that ?

    This has been really helpful! I've purchased the Samsung 860 EVO 500GB SATA hard drive and I'm excited to install it in my late-2011 MacBook Pro! My computer has been running slow lately, so I thought this would be a good investment in addition to boosting my RAM. My biggest worry is restoring my files onto my computer and your video completely answered my questions around rebooting from TimeMachine. I back up my computer regularly onto an external hard drive and so, I think it'll be pretty easy to transfer over all of my files once the new hard drive is installed. I do have one question: If my computer goes into sleep mode while it's reloading from TimeMachine, will that impact any of my file transfers?

    • @TechandDesign
      @TechandDesign  4 года назад +1

      You can leave your Mac alone while it’s transfering. As long as you don’t have it running of the battery but have it hooked up

    Thanks for this tutorial. It’s great to doing things that are absolutely (at first at least) out of our/my knowledge. So thanks to you and all the people sharing all kind of tutorials around the world. BUT...I had an issue when I did this procedure. I proceeded looking to this video, and get to the point of transfering files from my external drive to the new SSD through Time Machine. Things were going right, the last time I checked the Time Machine transfer it was around 50%. Power adaptor was connected. It was late in the evening so I left my MacBook Pro transfering files by night. Next day (today) I checked if it was finished, and the MacBook was shut down. I thought it may be part of the process so I turned it on. The apple logo appears while the screen is white and a process bar is loading. It seemed normal. But when the bar is about 1/3 of the loading process , the MacBook shuts down. I try staring up again and same result. I don’t know why this is happening. Please any thoughts? 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

    • @vicenteb531
      @vicenteb531 4 года назад +2

      SOLVED: be careful because every procedure like the one on this video depends on your Operativa System (OS). I had IOS X 10.10.5 installed in my original Macintosh HD, and because of this my Time Machine backup (that I was trying to migrate to my new SSD) had that same OS, and I don´t know why but doing what is said on this video just did not worked for me (see my original post above). I tried a lot of things: first, a tech guy achieved to install Mac OS High Sierra on my new SSD, so I needed to copy my Macintosh HD/Time Machine backup files into the SSD, so when I tried to import my files through Time Machine, it just keeped happening what I described on my original post. Then I tried cloning the original MacIntosh HD using Apple recovery system, but it threw an error before starting the process and it was just not possible to do it that way. What I finally did was just download a clone software (in my case, I used Carbon Copy Cloner, which has a 30 day free trial) AND THAT WAS IT. Everything ok. It was really a pain in the ass all the regular Apple procedures, man I mean WTF Apple¡¡¡!!!!??? But Carbon Copy Cloner was THE solution and WAY easier and it just worked perfect and at the very first attempt. I hope this will save you time, money and stress. Cheers.

    Thnx for the great tutorial. All went well until starting up. I get the spinning globe but it then asks for an internet connection through WiFi. It connects to my Wifi but after 10-15 minutes I get an error. It says apple.com/support 2002f. I also tried setting up with a hotspot on my phone. That also resulted in the same error. Do you have any idea? I found some post on the Apple communities but all cases are not subject to changing a harddisc. Also tried with Ethernet but I get no option for connecting to an ethernet connection. Thank you upfront for your time and effort.
