--Place screws on new SSD
--Connect the connector to the SSD
--Place new SSD in the slot

--Screw in the back panel

I did the same with a MacBook Pro 2012 about a year ago. Right now I'm doing the same model for a friend, so I watched your video for a refresher course! I'm so amazed at how an SSD made my Mac like a brand new machine. I've been using Macs since 1989 and wonder why I didn't do this with some of my previous Macs. Thanks for your work!
Simple but very informative. I liked that you showed that after installing the New Drive then it showed the ?folder. Saved my issues. Thank You so much.
Good too see you back
This is the best tutorial I’ve seen on RUclips! Thank you very much
Very clear cut, appreciate the detail you put in the instructions.
Thank you bro, followed every step exactly and got through it.
Thank you so very much. My mid 2012 macbook pro feels brand new. Your explanation was clean, crisp and straight to the point, no gunk - no junk. You are one of the BEST on RUclips. Keep up the good work.

how long did the whole proccess take?
Bro which os are you using on it ?
Thanks a million bro for this very useful video, I was struggling to find out
Just what I needed. Thanks for the video.
It's work until now... Thanks bro... 👍👍👍 Very simple, quick and easy
great vid bro!! thank you finally one that said what to do with new ssd on bootup
OMG thank you for this tutorial, I wanted to return ssd and thought it’s not compatible with my MBP2012. 🙏 You are Awesome! 🙌
Which OS did you have on the computer before replacing with the new SSD and what OS was installed during internet recovery?
I was ready to return the new SSD because of the(? Folder)….. [command R] saved the day. Thank you very much.
I like the way you explain each and every step of the process
This tutorial is great. Thank you so much
Great installation guide. Thank you
Thank you for this post bro. It helped me
Thanks again easy to follow!
Perfect, thank you!
Thanks. I just needed to reformat the drive, I didn’t realise it was that easy! My computer wouldn’t install as it was ntfs
thank you so much! I was watching the other video and I didn't know what to do after seeing the question mark folder and so, I bought a new connector thinking it was the connector issue :"))) have a good day! (this is my first time commenting on a YT video!)
helped me out big time man. thank you
Thank you worked awesome.
perfect, thank you
The first boot is always the longest, i upgraded my 2012 mac to am ssd, first boot was 40 secs, after the first boot it takes around 20 sec to boot up. 😊
Thanks you for making this video. Its useful. I solved my macbook pro mid 2012 successfully....
What OS was running on the computer before you installed the new SSD and what OS was installed during internet recovery?
Here for the jacket bro!
Thanks a lot brother. Even i had installed an ssd and was excited about the speed but then it couldn't boot and question mark folder came. So was finding a way to install mac os on it. And you helped. Thanks a lot.
Bro did you upgrade the ram too or just the SSD?
@@leokiri one of the rams out of two wasn’t working properly so replaced it with a new one
Dope thanks for the vid.
Thanks for you sharing. It’s very helpful.I can do it because this clip.🙃
Thank you bhai ! Your instructions helped a lot ! 🙏
Bhai mere paas v mid 2012 hai kya sirf 250 gb SSD se chlega ?
@@abhayraj1281 arey bhai … I would suggest to buy 1 TB, mera 500 gb hain … not enough … I wish I could’ve gone for 1TB actually
Thank you!
Superb , flawless really , so many videos on here miss small but essential steps out 👏🏻👏🏻 one thing a may add is that I had to reinstall twice , once for OS X then again for Catalina .
I was told that you have to somehow format the solid state drive when replacing the hard drive for it? Is this true? Did you do this ,if so how is it done?
@@veautifulstranger he explains this in the video at 5:20.
How did you install Catalina? Mine rebooted with mountain lion.
Additional tips after I did this 2 weeks ago : Disconnect from power cord before opening . Consider replacing Battery while opening case . Look up how to clone onto new SSD and buy those bits follow those instructions .Use time machine to do it , makes setup of previously used and loved MacBook files and downloads easier. This method resets all functions . Grab a Tech driver kit ( electronics stores have them , even a car parts store near me has them or even check a Hardware store ) . I got mine from Ifixit . You need TX6 and OO . My crucial SSD had a "shoe which I placed under SSD when installed , stops vibration and movement . Clean the inside of dust and hair .
Wait my ssd has like all the downloads I have 😢 that kinda makes me not want to get new one honesly
Thx for sharing
I watched so many videos on how to do this, other videos show so many steps, other to download other 3rd party software, honestly i was about to give up and return my SSD. I am not an expert on this at all but now my MacBook 2012 runs better than when I bought it. I upgraded to 500 GB SSD and 8GB RAM. Subscribing to your channel. I liked how he went straight to the point.
Bro do I need to upgrade the ram too? I'm confused, is it ok if I only upragde into ssd or do I need to upgrade my ram(currently 4GB)
@@leokiri no you don't need to upgrade ram but it does make thing even more better if you do try SSD see what you think then maybe upgrade ram
Thank you Sir❤
Thank you 😊
Helpful video for upgrading my Mid-2012 MacBook Pro with a new SSD. However, when I followed your instructions on loading the OS - Command+R - it loaded Mountain Lion, NOT Catalina :( Took me awhile. but was able to install Catalina by restarting and holding Command+OPTION+R. Other than that, a good video. Thanks!
How did you get Catalina installed?
And before you do anything, make sure to BACK UP EVERYTHING YOU WANT TO SAVE ON A SEPARATE DRIVE OR ICLOUD!!!
@@StuReviewI'm also looking for solutions
Great video, thanks! Mine went into the repair window and downloaded Mavericks instead of Catalina, otherwise everything went according to plan here!
Edit: hold down Command+Option+R to install with the latest compatible OS!
Had same problem - loaded Mountain Lion with Command+R pressed...when I restarted and pressed Command+OPTION+R, loaded Catalina :)
When did you hold down command option r? After it installed mountain lion and then
turned it off then back on?
Or from page that save install maxOS, disk utilities, and all that?
thanks very much i got my maccok pro 120 dls, upgrade 16 gb memory and hard drive SSD omg I love my neww mac book pro its very fast.
Informative video and answered all my questions except one.. how do you get all the data from the old drive back on too the new one? Do I need a transfer kit or is all my data still in the iCloud and I can back it up once the new drive is initialized and ready to go?
How did you install Mac os after assigning as an extended journal? Did the mbp auto detect the latest compatible version (since it's a 2012 machine) and started to download to install? Or did you plug in any external storage device with the Catalina os?
Thank you so much for making this video!! You are very helpful, I have the same problem and it was driving me nuts!! Now I know what to do!!
Great vid. So ... did you install a "non" formatted drive into the macbook? I have installed a new blade style ssd in my 2012 macbook and run disk utilities and it is taking FOREVER to format.
What key combination did you use before entering disk utilities? Thank you!
Command and r key
Hey Pranshu, this work with my MacBook Pro MID 2012? Are the same as the all 2012?
Great Video!!! by the way does any1 know if I can pick High Sierra instead of Catalina?
Thanks for the tutorial. If you are still active on this account & if you know this so please answer me " Can we use SSD & HDD at the same time in mac pro12?
Is there any disadvantages of using hdd with ssd and will i face any hang/slow problem ?
How did you get it to install Catalina? I just installed a new Crucial SSD on my 2013 MBP and it went straight to El Capitan. Any idea if I'll be able to upgrade in the future?
Thanks for a great tutorial all went well with the exchange to SSD.Machine runs brilliant, so fast now. However, I have an issue don't know if you could help. I did a back up using time machine as you advised but when I wanted to set up the new disc from it I do not have access rights to it. In the end I had to install a new OS but of course now I can't access all my files. Any ideas please

Hoping someone can answer this: Someone told me that for Catalina it’s required to choose “APFS” instead of “Extended (Journaled)” on the Erase page. Is that true?
Hi Pranshu
Hope you are well, just installed new same Samsung SSD in pro 2012 and did fresh installing but when it reboots it comes up with a circle and diagonal line. Have tried formatting and reinstalling a few times but no luck . Any thoughts please ?
Thanks

Your a god thanks
Thank you thank you thank you
I was told that you have to somehow format the solid state drive when replacing the hard drive for it? Is this true? Did you do this ,if so how is it done?
Please suggest me some good batteries for this model in India (if you know any). It's showing "Service Battery" since 6-7 months.
What about enabling TRIM in terminal? I've read that this is necessary. I have a 2011 Macbook Pro. I installed this same hard drive, but 10.13 HIgh Sierra is the highest operating system that will work on the 2011. It worked for about a week and then I started getting constant beach balling. I read that other people had similar problems with this Samsung Drive (there was a bad batch produced) and some people were talking about how you have to enable TRIM in terminal. I sent it back and they upgraded the firmware and tested it and I just received it back and installed it. Now I have to re-install the OS. But I'm wondering if I'm supposed to enable TRIM before or after installing the new OS.
Great video! Thank you for making it! I attempted last year to do this with Mojave and it did not let me. I was trying to copy my old drive to the new one. I attempted with time machine, and even third party software and was not able to do it. When I finally did it would glitch and only startup once and after that I would keep getting that folder screen. I want to try it again but my question is on your video did you just restore it to a “new Mac” as in you didn’t copy your old HD to SSD?
Yes, in this case, I did a clean installation from scratch on the new SSD. My data is always backed up on cloud. After the clean installation, I simply downloaded the data back on the new SSD using a cloud client.
How much faster would the Samsung 860 PRO be? Keyword: PRO (Any benchmark tests, videos you can share?)
Is it possible to do this process but to install Mojave instead of Catalina? Do the Utilities offer Mojave or I have to follow a different process?
Apparently for High Sierra and above APFS formatting is recommended for SSD drives as it is optimised for SSD.
And did you enable TRIM on yr SSD?
APFS was not listed as an option when I erased and reformatted my new SSD - how were you able to format in APFS? Also, what is TRIM and why is it important? Thanks!
Does the strength of the internet determine how long I have to hold the the two keys?
I have the same laptop, I want to install the os seirra, is it possible to download that old version these days?
thank you for the video
I was wondering if the 1tb Samsung ssd was compatible with Catalina on my mid 2012 MacBook Pro
...now I see it is... I'm now gonna upgrade to 16gb ram as well
thanks again 👍🏼
Hi! Are you still running Catalina? Iam planing to upgrade ssd and ram on my 2012mid , not sure what should I instal on clean: Mojave or Catalina..
@@konstantinosaka I think High Sierra and Mojave will give u the best bang for ur buck.
@@rndmusrnm2763 thanks, man! I got Mojave everything runs just super!
@@konstantinosaka yea I installed it on my 2012 MacBook Pro and it’s running pretty smooth. Probably not gonna go higher cause I heard Catalina can be buggy on older machines
@@rndmusrnm2763 I wont go higher either. Everything i need runs great. Even games on steam)) getting pretty hot though..
Did you connect that iMac as an external monitor? nice
I have a MacBook Pro early 2011, it should work aswell right?
How about restore Data, Document etc in the new HDD SSD ?? Its only Mac OS system install
My mid 2012, APFS runs Catalina. A new SSD may not be offered APFS, so if you pick MacOS Extended you may find the restore MacOS gives you Yosemite. APFS works better with newer programs. Maybe you'll have to clone your old HD to get APFS and Catalina.
How about the softwares? Like Pro logic? 0is it Automatic?
What type of SSD drive have to purchase. I need 2 TB. What is the type of connector?
I also have a 2012 MacBook Pro. Will a 850 Samsung do?
Have you upgraded the ram
hi, i will buy a MacBook Pro 2012 13“ mid soon. I will upgrade it with 16 GB and a better SSD (Samsung) and the battery. It's also my first MacBook so I don't know my way around. Which MacOS system should I use, will just be browsing insta and watching RUclips / Netflix. Also a few school activities Word, ... Thanks in advance
Hi there. My MacBook is trying to install latest version of lion, but it’s not working. Any solutions? Perhaps I can install another iOS?
Do you know if a 4T Samsung will fit?
Does Macbook Pro 2012 support the Catalina?
Hello bro, my old hard disk HDD which came with my MacBook Pro, I transfer all data on it to SSD through Time Machine, then I removed the HDD and I insert the new SSD to my MacBook Pro which has all data from HDD, when I start up my computer goes to recovery mode! Do you have any tips to fix the problem?
Thank you! :) i ordered a 500gb crucial mx500 ssd and 16gb corsair mac memory ram. I will try the same the next few days! :) but i dont want to loose all my stuff on the mac. I can make a backup with time machine on a portable 1tb harddrive right? :)
can you share the link to ram
I ordered the same ssd can you please let me know how it went please
Zidane Williams everything worked fine! :)
Is it ok to replace the HDD with an SSD without inserting a bootable usb for whatever OS ?
How did u back up old drive files on this one
Do you disconnect the battery?
Can I use the new evo 370 instead of the evo 360?
my hard drive not showing up on disk utility, what i have to do now?
i did the same steps on my mid 2009 macbook pro but for some reason command + r does not work
It shows me to download OS X Mountain Lion and not Catalina. Also, I have purchased 870 evo and not 860 evo. I have no idea what’s the difference between both. Does anyone know what’s the difference between two models ? Right now it shows download software time 3h54m. Phhew
Wouldn't it have been easier to have just cloned the old drive onto the new one before removing the old one?
🙏🏾
Hi Pranshu Bajpai,,
I have Macbook pro Mid 2012.. running on Mojave. i have bought new SSD and wany to intsall. the question is how do i get the same OS in new SSD ?? in App store it gives me option for Catalina..
please suggest..
Thanks in advance..
Hello. So what was your way out? Iam on the same page right now. Planning to upgrade ram and ssd on 2012mid MBP. I Like Mojave still. But hearing about catalina...
Does anyone know how to get the black apple boot screen instead of white?
Do I have to download MacOS to a usb in order to reinstall the OS? Or does it download when you downloaded the drivers?
You do not need a USB stick. The OS is acquired over the WiFi.
@@AmIRootYet what if my computer isnt give me the option to aquire the os via wifi ?
What kind of iMac is that?
Do you need to purchase a new copy of the OS? Or when you're connected to the internet it just downloads. Sorry for such a dumb question
It’s free to download you just need an internet connection
After i install the sdd. Does it mean i have to reinstall the lastest os . Installing new os from the old os like xlion takes a lot of time.
Did u ever figure this out? I'm wondering the same
That not require a bootable flashdrive right(?)
Thats right it aint required
I follow the steps but it can't install the running system.
I didnt Unterstand how to Install Mac OS in New SSD . Help plsss !!!
Do we have to format the SSD before installing into the Mac?
yes
No.
Mine doesn’t work because it says “OS X can’t be reinstalled because you aren’t connected to the internet” but I already connect through the wifi before the recovery mode. Help please
Did you fix it and if you did how?
Why does mine say it’s going to take about 5 hours ???
Hi pls tell me, which macOS is better for my mbp mid 2012 ?
Same question!
Did you figure out, which is better?
@@konstantinosaka If you have an SSD and 16gb of ram go catalina otherwise go High Sierra or Sierra
@@MrYughurta Thanks! Why not Mojave?))
@@konstantinosaka If you have only an hdd you can get some lags and problems even with mojave, so high sierra is the best choice. If you can install an SSD and 8 or 16gb of ram, Catalina is the best choice.
