I like this video. Love the presentation and narration quality. This guy was probably using a single camera and working alone. Love the simple and clean working environment. I also like the way he removed the screws and lined them up. Just one point of observation: He should have removed the battery connection to the laptop before disconnecting the cables and removing the hard drive because it is connected to the logic boardm which is connected to the battery.
I have MacBook (13-inch, Mid 2010) with mac OS High Sierra installed on to it. now I want to get my Macbook clean installed again. I don't have any install DVD of mac OS and Application please can you help me with this?

Hello Jay, just a quick question for you, how big of a harddrive can you use on a 2015 MacBook Pro? and were can I purchase one if you know a good place to buy one, Thanks for the video its great. your friend Rudy in California
Will changing hard drive speed up the laptop? I have a 13 inch macbook pro 2013 and it takes ages to just open photos. Went to a repair shop and the shopkeeper told me i should upgrade my SSD.
Hello, great great video. But how do I back up all my data and pictures and all, I need help with this. Really appreciate it if you do or have a video about this as well. Thanks 👏🏼
I inherited my 2010 Macbook Pro from my friend and he did not provide any installation DVD. I am planning to replace the hard drive as well. Where can i get a replacement DVD?
7 years later! Thanks for your efforts Perfect Clear video! You forget to disconnect the battery hehe... I have to do the same upgrade with 2 Tb hd & 16 Gb RAM.
When you install a new hard drive, do you have to go through the whole setup again? Do you lose all your information from the previous Hard Drive or did you upgrade it before you even started using the new HD?
Hi there, in order for ur macbook too turn on etc do u meed the hard drive to be intact or has the hard drive got nothing to do with your macbook not turning on? Ive had this problem for a while now and ive currently got no hard drive what so ever in my laptop
Hi there, I have an old MacBook Pro which doesn't turn on. I have some data on that hard drive. I was wondering if I convert the hard drive into an external one using a casing and connect it to another MacBook, will I be able to access my data?
Excellent video tutorial JayPlays! Presentation and organization very well-done! One of the BEST I've come across in YouTibe! Keep up the great job, JayPlays!
Hi. Thanks for the very helpful video. My MBP is 2009 15". I suppose your instructions apply to my mac as well, correct? Also, not sure if this has been asked in this comments thread: what is the maximum hd capacity i can upgrade to? Answer is appreciated. Thanks.
I have to replace my HD because it just stop working, any advise before I purchase the new HD, I was looking at the travel star 500, or should i look in to a better one to upgrade the system.
Thanks for this video. I'm installing an SSD in mine, but I don't have a torx screwdriver yet. Hopefully I can use it without having the SSD fitted with mounting screws for a few days. It's very light and housed in plastic, so should be okay I think.
Hello! excellent video thanks for sharing! I just wanted to ask a question, I have a macbook pro just like the one in your video on which the motherboard has failed, I just wanted to take the hard drive out to get my info out, and then put it back on the computer so I can resell it, so my questions is: will I have to do this proccess once I put the hard drive back on the original computer? my concern is that I won't be able to do it becasue the computer won't boot up. Please LMK thanks in advanc
+Mr. Button u download it on either a USB Flash Drive or u make a backup within a time machine, its easy to make an USB Flash Drive, I just did it today. when u boot up with nothing on ur SSD/HD u press alt + C to open the boot menu, then u select the USB Flash Drive and it will install the OSX u put on it, for example El Capitan. I want to hear back of how it went :)
great video very helpful, thank you. I do have one question though. i need to replace my hard drive and so im gona back up my computer first so i dont loose anything. will the os be backed up aswell or do i need to buy osx again or should i just ask for the cd at apple store? how would that work? thanks
The black bar shown at 2:33 is not pinning down my hard drive so when I close it and flip the laptop upside down the harddrive rattles in the cage. Did I do something wrong or is it because i removed and threw away the clear plastic tab?
Hi..i am new to doing this... If i have all of my music and other documents on one drive, and i want it on the new HD, how do i accomplish this?? thanks
Hey man awesome tutorial. I really enjoyed it watching you work. I learned something new. I wasn’t aware of the optimal trick to get rid of static energy. Also NEVER removed anything before unplugging the battery son! Lastly. Do you know what the form factor is for the this partícula Mac. I have the same one but I’m not sure if it’s a 2.5 or a 3.5. I found an explanation about this online but for some reason it talked about everything except for the MacBook Pro.
How is the speed? is it running smoothly? I have installed Western Digital 750GB 5400RPM on my 15" MBP and it's terribly slow. And comes spinning rainbow frequently. So, returning it back and planning to get Hitachi 500GB as it is original hard drive manufacturer for Apple. Please let me know the performance. Thanks
@JaymarkTech so then, in ur opinion, was it worth the upgrade considering the battery life and energy efficiency went down Especially if your a person like me who will be using external drives and stuff?
Hey, do you think the 3 hour battery drop came from the increased RPM? Also, if i order a new macbook pro and install a new HDD straight away, how does the OS get onto the new HDD? If i set up the laptop initially on the standard HDD then will that OS be installed on the old HDD, meaning i cant install it on the new one (since two versions of the same copy are trying to be installed). My questions are probably stupid haha
I have a MacBook from mid-2010 that has a 250G HDD. I want to upgrade it to a 2T HDD. Can I simply clone the existing drive to the new drive so I don't have to reinstall everything?
Yup, i just upgraded my MBP 15" to a 1 TB hd.. procedure is ruffly similar, however the static points are necessary to touch (Otherwise u are screwed).. also, be careful with touching a motherboard, very sensitive on a 15"... Thats it really, also, make sure u unplug the battery.. Good Luck
hi im about to get a 7200rpm hard drive for my macbook pro but you mentioned the 3 hours decrease in battery life - so it is THAT significant? So you recommend 5400 rpm for the same battery performance?
2 questions, I saw the specific hard drive you used. I as well have a 13' macbook pro, but its from spring of 2009 it looks exactly the same, will it still work fine? 2nd question is I have lion on mine. How will it find Lion since I bought it from the apple store and the same with the new iphoto? Thanks.
No. These are not associated with Apple. You can download the OS legally free from the Appstore and put it on an usb. It works the same. Watch some vids about it.
@JaymarkTech --- Is the 7200 rpm louder than the 5400 rpm? I wanted to upgrade my 15" MBP but I heard that it can be louder and drain battery faster. Did you notice a drastic difference with regards to those two factors?
Hi Jay, I have the MacBook Pro 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo model. Would these instructions work for changing the hard drive also?? Another question, if I have Time Capsule, can I just install Snow Leopard and then have Time Capsule recover rest of the software and data?? Will all my purchased softwares (ex. iLife, Microsoft Office) get installed from my Time Capsule or just the data files will get updated. I really appreciate your help.
please I need help, lets assume hdd is okey the one I removed from macbook now I wanna acces to another mac and copy my contents from the hdd, is it possible?? thank you everybody
@JaymarkTech Hi Jay, I'm using a macbook white (2010) upgraded to 4GB ram. I'm planning to upgrade my HDD to 500GB soon. I installed a windows bootcamp 30gb partition. And I'm thinkinng to use a carbon copy cloner to copy everything to the new hdd. Does the windows bootcamp 30gb partition can be cloned too? And before doing so, do I need to format the new hdd first?
hi, great video! im about to put a 256GB Crucial m4 2.5" in my mid 2010 macbook pro. i came across several harddrives and noticed slight differences in size. on the Crucial website the drive is 9,5mm high and on another site almost the same one (also Crucial) is 7mm high. do you think if i buy the one thats 7mm high that would be a problem? or will it be too loose?
Can anybody tell me what screw driver I need to take out the mounting screws in the Hitachi HD? I want to take them out of the old Hitachi and put them in my new Samsung SSD 840 EVO ? Thanks
if i have an external hard drive that i have used to back up my mac, can i extract my old hard drive from the computer, install a brand new one, turn on my mac and restore it with my external back up drive? it would be incredibly helpful if you responded, but if you dont, i understand

Can I do the time machine backup so I don't have to reinstall everything?
+Liz Nguyen Luu Yes you can. When you get the start up movie, you have the menu on top. It gives you a choice to re-install from Time Machine.
@JayPlaysDotCom I have one question , Which storage devise is there in Macbook pro mid 2010 unibody 13" ? Is it SSD or HDD ?
Perfect walk-through Jay! I really appreciate it! I'm glad I didn't have to go pay an electronics store to do it for me! It worked like a champ!!

@kristoffergil23 can't do that. The motherboard is soldered tight. I think we can only upgrade RAM & HD.
Will changing hard drive speed up the laptop? I have a 13 inch macbook pro 2013 and it takes ages to just open photos. Went to a repair shop and the shopkeeper told me i should upgrade my SSD.
Thanks for your installation video. I followed your instructions. When I turned my computer on, all I get is three beeps. What did I do wrong? Thanks.

+Brando T You can use a Snow Leopard install DVD or the Lion? USB installer. Worst case, take a trip to the Apple store and see what they can do.

Excellent video tutorial JayPlays! Presentation and organization very well-done! One of the BEST I've come across in YouTibe! Keep up the great job, JayPlays!
2 questions
1. Which screwdriver did you use to open the Mac
2. If you switch and still get the question mark with the folder what does that mean?
Thanks so much Jay. It may be an old video, but it's really helped me today.
How much did this affect your battery life?
Nicely done!
I have a question-where can I get a replacement applications disc? I still have my old MacBook , just not the discs.😢
Hi. Thanks for the very helpful video. My MBP is 2009 15". I suppose your instructions apply to my mac as well, correct?

Just used your video to upgrade my Macbook Pro Harddrive. Excellent video, thankyou very much. Keep them coming.
Hey man nice video, but what kind of screwdrivers do I need to do this?
Precise clear tutorial mate...thanks
Need to partition my old Mac too, instead of paying ridiculous fees at computer shops.
Nice one dude
How can I upgrade my hard drive if my mac won't read the disc. My macs dvd drive won't read anything, is that possible to replace too?
Good video. About to do this with my pro and try to put a 1tb in. What is that mat you're using? It's awesome.
At 6:16, what are you calling the disk that you are inserting. i can't understand mumbling, and this is obviously something important to know.
@BrennanWorld Did you secure the hard drive and screw in tightly the screws and black bar you removed? If so, your new hard drive may be faulty.
can u install a ssd instead?
question? would you be able to upgrade a 2013 mid 2010 MBP to a higher hard drive? SSD?

I did everything absolutely correct including mounting screws but my hard drive moves around when I move the laptop. What is happening?
The black bar shown at 2:33 is not pinning down my hard drive so when I close it and flip the laptop upside down the harddrive rattles in the cage. Did I do something wrong or is it because i removed and threw away the clear plastic tab?
breakspinals sounds like you forgot to put all the mounting screws on the new drive. There should be 4 and I believe with rubber around 1 set.
Thank you so much. I did every single thing you did and it works. I installed a 500GB WD Blue Scorpio hard drive. Costs about $60 at J&R music world.
Hi..i am new to doing this...

Your should also do a video to show how to replace the DVD-RW with the HD adapter. So that the MacBook has two HDs.

@JaymarkTech thanks alot mate, hey if you upgrade the hdd does it void your warranty ? im planing to get a 1TB hdd for my macbook pro

Hi. These DVD's are coming up with the hard drive or I have to buy them separately? Thank you.
No. These are not associated with Apple. You can download the OS legally free from the Appstore and put it on an usb. It works the same. Watch some vids about it.
Thank you.
No problem.
@JaymarkTech --- Is the 7200 rpm louder than the 5400 rpm? I wanted to upgrade my 15" MBP but I heard that it can be louder and drain battery faster. Did you notice a drastic difference with regards to those two factors?
I used the same hard drive on my MacBook Pro 13" 2010 edition. It's great to have the extra space!

You should remove the battery too. As a precaution. Unplug on the M board.

I have a problem where the screen is just white and the apple sign is there but nothing happens afterwards.
Thank you so much! I had zero experience doing this kind of thing and your video made the process a breeze.
How do I know if the problem is the hardrive or the cable?

i have used time machine to back up all my files on my mac to a hard rive. Would os x lion be transferred through time machine to my hardrive or would the mac instantly just recover it self once i changed the hardrives like in this vid?
so you don't have to do backup first?
Thanks! Where do I get an install DVD?
