I almost cried; I was that nervous! Lol I didn't get to the next steps, but It was a great accomplishment to receive an interview invite from GS!!!
Thank you for the interesting insight into the world of IB. Could you please make a video comparing Hedge Funds and Investment Banking? What made you to decide in favor of IB?
I disagree with this answer - the interviewer typically follows with: Why this bank and why this division? When you cover this in your introduction of yourself you are left in an awkward spot of having to repeat yourself.
is it a good thing to tell them You are interviewing somewhere else ? Or such information is irrelevant? If so is it ok to mention their competitors names or is that a turn off ?
It is good to let them know that you are interviewing elsewhere so that they know that they may need to speed up the process. Phrase it like this: "I think that you should know, I have been interviewing elsewhere, have attended superdays, and am expecting decisions soon. Do you know the timeline for when the recruitment process for this position will conclude?" This way, they know you are just asking to make sure you can fully consider the role and are not forced to make a decision based off exploding deadlines. As far as naming the specific competitors, I am not sure. It can show them that you are really interested in the industry and it may impress them that you are that far in the process with other big players (i.e. if you are good enough for other comopanies, you are probably at least somewhate knowledgable), but it may tick them off or think that you do not fit the culture if you are attracted to a competitor that is known for an opposing culture. I would say ask around, and use your brain too. I recently just told Barclays that i recently interviewed with HSBC, but only because they asked what stage in the recruitment cycle I am in. In my opion, HSBC and Barclays are similar styles so I think it will not be a deterrent but you never know.
the same guy i talked to also said he worked for a competitor doing investment banking but he did not name them, so it may be best to not give the specific name
