Bit of lore at the bottom for 5:44 about Mauler upsetting Star Wars react steamers. The marvels budget confusion is from 27:05 to 39:15. Ashoka talk starts at 39:20 The WGA strike starts at 1:21:40 So about what happened with Mauler. So after Mauler watched Ashoka episode 5, mauler had to activate his rage mode to make a video. The title is “Star Wars cannot grow up”. It compared one episode of Futurama (The Sting) and Buffy (The Weight of the World) to episode 5 of Ashoka. It does spoil those episodes so be warned. I may be writing this from the grave after that “hashtag minefield” that he put in there too. He had an AI bot read out tweets about Ashoka episode 5. I haven’t cringed that hard in a while. Ashoka was thrashed hard, to put it kindly. At one point in the video, Mauler had inserted small clips of Star Wars channels reacting to episode 5, (he did it multiple times, but one lady got a bit upset compared to the others) and by god… memberberries must come laced with ecstasy with the level of overreacting on display here. One reactor specifically (goes by the name louise julie) did not like him using a three-second clip of her in his video. Her insightful display was her shaking like a seal (go to 32:35 in the video to see yourself [the actual reaction is at 32:40, but I wanted to give you a moment to protect yourself from the cringe]) at the memberberries. louise Julie did not like that. She told her followers “please report his content without permission”. 3 seconds of a react and they wanted to nuke mauler from orbit. To quote mauler in a tweet about her actions: “you literally said ‘please report for using content without permission’ to your audience and called me a jackass.” “I didn’t say anything about you personally, I just played the three-second clip.” “Also, not a ‘hate’ video, but how would a professional clown know the difference.” If you want to see what Louise Julie said during all this, go to YellowFlash 2’s video titled “Mauler ATTACKED by Disney Star Wars shill! Wants him TERMINATED and reported off RUclips!” The moral of the story? When you can get a video out of Mauler in less than a week on a subject matter, you have royally fucked yourself.
Typical Ieftist brigading, and even though it’s against Google/RUclips’s TOS, I guarantee she won’t be penaIized, or held to account for her brazen disregard for MauLer’s reputation, safety, and his livelihood.
It’s only ending because we’re beyond content with Hollywood Babylon burning, and are way more entertained with independent content creators, than the establishment corporate shills, ‘influencers’ and bratty Woke Grifters of Amerika. I for one, was hoping for a “The Replacements” scenario, in which, we get a lot of non union actors, writers and actual creatives, and put these fools to shame. (The Replacements is a football movie with Keanu Reeves, in which casual and non professional players take over a team, to embarrass the striking players.)
in the books thrawn is a super genius, not just tactically but in every way. he was described as fit, and always wearing a white immaculate uniform. he was always in control and his ability to look at reality as a chess game allowed him to always predict what would happen and win. he was very intimidating and militant.
I remember a character in the book predicting a stardestroyer being about to show up at a specific location of the battlefield because Thrawn favored the strategy. Even when you can predict him it doesn't matter because you'd have to justify expending ressources needed in other places to counter a "maybe"
I remember Admiral Thrawn from the Tie Fighter game. Always looked big, strong and intimidating too. Iirc you helped him save Emperor Palpatine's life. Against the traitor Admiral Zaarin.
Thrawn trilogy gets only *** = three star rating, so this is a risky bet! Thrawn seems at times smart, but it is so much in his head and you cannot "be in the moment"; description is sparse, but it gives liberties 4 TV-adaptation.
I have to echo Johnny Law's sentiments towards unenlightened Star Wars fans. Their love for how good it used to be, and for how good it should have been, has left them willfully blinded to how bad it has become.
Life imitates art... the “unenlightened” Star Wars fans are like the Jedi in RoTS. They are at the height of their influence (Lucasfilm is entirely dependent on their viewership), yet they are blind to the machinations of the ones in power tearing apart the legacy and greatness of the franchise.
I live in a fantasy world where when Disney finally sells Lucasfilm, whoever buys it is smart enough to instantly de-canonize all of Disney's additions and changes. Hearing that news would be the sweetest nectar.
Seeing little Ahsoka really highlighted how incredibly absurd it is that a 14 year old girl was regularly brought into active combat zones and even put in charge of commanding troops. I guess it kinda worked in the animated series because age is a little more ambiguous with the style, but golly, it just looks really silly seeing an actual kid in there. I get that she's a Jedi and all, but it looks really dumb.
It sucks because I really like the actor, he was one of the few bright points of Netflix's Witcher, but he was definitely a horrible choice for Thrawn. Looks like fat blue Elon Musk
He looks like a chubby Data cosplaying as Thrawn. Timothy Oliphant would've been a swell carrying choice. He played a proper evil genius in Die Hard 4.0 and he's fit...
Thrawn is an amazing villain in the books. That trilogy of novels can pretty much be considered the ideal episodes 7, 8, and 9. Rebels and now Ashoka have ruined both Thrawn as a villain and the original book storyline.
I can’t say enough that considering the age of the original trilogy actors when Disney took over, the Legacy of the Force series would have been wonderful to see adapted as a sequel trilogy. I hadn’t read a couple of the series that came before them when I read through and the books did a good job of easily catching people up who weren’t necessarily familiar with a few characters
I just recently saw the motion comics of the Thrawn trilogy and man what a loss such a good story what a shame they canned it for what we are getting now.🤮
To me, Thrawn’s appearance is way less important than how they mishandled his area of expertise. He’s supposed to be ten steps ahead, by far the smartest guy in the room and utterly menacing in his presence and confidence. But I suspect the writers knew they didn’t have the ability to write him that well. So now, he’s suppused to be scary “cuz witches.” Like, “oh look creepy witches and maybe his stormtroopers are zombies!” It’s tragic. They don’t have the ability to write a genius so he’s just a guy who made a deal with creepy witches. It’s deeply lame. If all they can think of is having him boss around “scary magic ladies” then they totally miss the point. In the books, Thrawn did occasionally draw on Force users, but even then it was in brilliant and surprising ways. It was about *his* plans and ideas, not the OP nature of his allies. I deeply hope I’m wrong. Maybe it was just a weak first impression, and his actual secret plans will turn out to be genuinely clever. But I have very little confidence in their ability to make it happen
It's probably more likely that they THOUGHT they wrote and directed him well. That they think this is actually good, and that they are clever writers. And they're too stupid and sheltered to realize how stupid they are.
Thrawn as a character was what happens when you take Moriarty from Sherlock Holmes and make him a military leader. His main power was his understanding of people and machines and how to use them.
Thrawn "employed" C'Baoth because C'Baoth was trained in the art of battle meditation. But he knew that the clone was stark raving insane and a lot of their later encounters were extremely precarious. He generally wasn't a fan of force users considered what happened to the Empire because of them.
I was in a production of a documentary about some Danish history stuff a few years ago, where Lars Mikkelsen played the role of the host My role was just as a blink-and-you-miss-it extra, but I remember Mikkelsen, being a super commanding and authoritative person on set, because he is so damn tall and long-limbed, towering over us young, not that tiny, danish lads who was playing a bunch of smiths on strike, and also because he's a top professional, plus super kind and patient with us extras And he has so many roles, where he plays, basically, Thrawn (tall nazi-esk smart scary person) I'm a little taken aback how poorly the Ahsoka show leaned into his natural talents Still kinda cool seeing a local boi as the big baddy in Star Wars, even if the show is a bit...Disney Thanks for great cozy pod-cast, fellas : ) Keep up the good work, and SKÅL(cheers)🍺
I like the visual of imperial forces stranded for years, equipment being held together with anything they had because they can’t resupply. I see a bunch of people talk about undead Stormtroopers... I really hope that isn’t the case. Undead, screeching nightsisters was fine for The Clone Wars as a last ditch effort by the nightsisters to fight off the droids but it doesn’t feel right here. In the Clone Wars it took constant concentration of a witch, had clear drawbacks, only made screeching corpses (instead of well disciplined troopers standing in formation) and Grievous could follow the obvious, glowing magic back to the witches hideout and kill her... Not to mention that it would be weird for *all* of Thrawns soldiers to be dead while he is fine. Battle hardened soldiers wearing whatever equipment still works makes far more sense and would make them seem like the elite of the elite!
In other words, Admiral Daala at Maw Installation from the Expanded Universe books. That was cool and interesting. Too bad Disney can't do anything close to cool and interesting.
If Ezra saved Thrawn from dying and Thrawn left all his troops to die it would make sense. Or they died from lack of rations. Or the Nightsisters killed them but spared Thrawn.
@@OzzyHamid-cl2fi yeah... That's one of the things I'm worried about. Star Wars in recent years has been more about nice visuals than actually making sense. No matter if it even contradicts Disney's own plot as long as KK get's her self-insert...
To debut Thrawn they needed him to lead a space battle where he takes down/hijacks like 5 republic starships with like an unarmed transport and a few stormtroopers. Having him walk in front of a bunch of dirty troops with a beer belly and a slump is the opposite of what he needed. Thrawn in the Zahn books was supposed to be more powerful than Vader while not having force powers, he's an Andor villain that can cross into a jedi based show really well with a competent writer/director.
Zahn Thrawn had respect for life. He would even give the enemy a chance to surrender peacefully or attempt to take them with as minimal a loss of life as possibly. Preferably none. He would also not throw away two absolutely PRIME assets like Lord Baylan and his apprentice. He WOULD let Sabine leave to find Ezra though, as that much was promised to her. The only in-character, to me, thing he did was give her a ride, provisions and the very clear notification that once he can he's gone...
Every time Thrawn has been introduced into a series of novels or even in Rebels, he did something smart. In the Legends trilogy he wipes the floor with some New Republic ships. In the Canon trilogy he runs circles around 30 Imperials for a few days before letting himself be captured. In the Ascendancy trilogy he pulls off a near impossible manoeuvre in a training exercise to avoid getting expelled.
Sad shit is - SW community foaming about Ashoka when Andor went unnoticed. There's no hope for Star Wars, no course correction and change of figureheads can turn it to normal. It will be endless "Filoni playing with his action figures" works for years and years.
There is nothing more dangerous and cancerous as toxic positivity. And Star Wars has reached that point. That's all it has. Toxic Positivity. Where even one point of dissent is labeled as toxic and hateful. And while there can be hating for the sake of it, that's always the fringe. And there is absolutely nothing wrong acknowledging criticism, in fact that feedback can and should be used to improve your product. You need that feedback.
I really don’t like how easy it is to travel between galaxies now... The Star Wars galaxy was always somewhat "closed off" from the rest of the universe. Wether there was a hyperspace barrier like in legends or just really long distance to even make faster than light travel unviable. Now you can casually strap a couple hyperdrives together an boom. Or you ask a couple space whales for a ride... Why are space whales even capable of doing this?!?
they really don't take into account how far away galaxies are from each other, even with a hyperdrive it should take thousands of years to travel between them. like one galaxy isn't big enough to contain their crappy stories, it is a joke.
Because stupid writers, that's why. Let's be real, the Empire in the og trilogy was a metaphor for wwii Germany. Which had many, many issues for sure, but was the most advanced and well organized, at least at the beginning of the war. If something like intergalactic travelling whales existed, they would've known. Because the Republic would have known too. Why are we making the Empire stupid and incompetent? Anyway, i am not even a fan anymore, lost interest after Phantom Menace.
@@commentingisdangerous7530 it's the writers not taking into consideration how this "new thing the plot needs to happen" will affect the rest of the plot/universe. If it's as simple as rigging a couple hyperdrives together it would have been done a long time ago. Now that it has been proven to work there's no way nobody else will do it from now. Yet there's no mention in the sequel trilogy about the multi galaxy spanning civilization. Palpatine only wanted to re-conquer this one... It's similar to hyperspace ramming. Looks cool but brings up the question why it hasn't been weaponized before or after. Hyperdrives are a dime a dozen, droids exist to avoid sacrificing pilots and if the odds are "1 in a million" like RoS retconned the First Order wouldn't have immediately understood what Holdo was doing or panicked. Many use the "it would be too expensive" excuse. What's more expensive? Ramming a single thing, that was cheaply built for the purpose, into the enemy or sacrificing part of your fleet, each ship equiped with it's own hyperdrive, in a normal engagement? Even if the odds are "1 in a million" it would be weaponized. Use better targeting systems to calculate the jump, strap a cheap hyperdrive to a cheap projectile and wipe out an entire enemy fleet/station/planet/whatever at minimal cost... Just send several. Even if you miss all of them RoS introduced hyperspace skipping to make it even more viable. Your missile ships stay intact and the droid pilots can turn around and try again until they hit something!
I've listened to episodes of Friday Night Tights on loop all day before. At a certain point just hearing their voices gives me a warm at home feeling. Like an among friends feeling ya kno @@william_hols
Thrawn is actually in his 70's. Crazy as it may sound. My biggest issue is how very clear it is that Filoni hasn't bothered to consider the rest of the canon that Zhan established with his books. Like it or not, the books are canon to the over-all SW story and there has to be a through-line in the character. And Zhan established that Thrawn cares more than anything about his old home, tbe Chiss Ascendency. The Empire was always a tool, a potential ally, not a true home. So why is he coming back to conquer the galaxy for the empire now? Further, this is a man who knows how to work with people who may not see eye-to-eye with him. In the old legends one of his biggest flaws was not killing people when he could because he was cerrain he could still use them or get them to see his way (Mara Jade) and in the new canon he once worked with another imperial who hated his guts and managed to get him to give him some respect (Brierly Ronan). So why, WHY would Thrawn NOT work out a truce with Ezra?! Hell, there is a LOT of canon reasons Thrawn could manage to work ezra to his side. Again, its stuff from the books but damn it, the books ARE CANON WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT DAVE. And if you expect the audience to have outside info of Rebels, Mandalorian, etc. then why not also use the books written by tbe man who has always written Thrawn, the man who INVENTED THE CHARACTER?! This sort of not caring was already bad in Rebels with certain moments where the show ignored things Zhan established in his book but it's only gotten worse. Also, the idea that Thrawn would ever have his troops chanting his name like that is ridiculous.
it's odd with all the CGI magic they have, they could have taken Lars's voice and imposed it on another character. After all they did that with Darth Vader. Arguably while Chiss are considered near human, that is no reason for them to look like a 70 year old human.
If you want a good adaptation of the Thrawn trilogy, please check out Darth Angelus' fan animation of Heir to the Empire. The animation can be a bit wonky in places but the voice acting is great and it's very faithful. It shows you just why Thrawn is such a threat, in a far superior way to Disney's bullshit.
We've seen Sabine in Rebels take out squads of Stormtroopers with her blasters and other Mandalorian gadgets before, but for some reason she utterly fails to take out these bandits using her Mandalorian skills, you know the ones she has trained with and used her entire life? But the second she pulls her lightsabre she wipes them out in a couple of seconds!!
1. They ambush her and are behind cover. 2. She doesn't have her jetpack, or basically any cover where she stands. 3. She shoots down or knocks over/pulls over 3 of them. They are on the ground, but we don't know if they are unconscious or dead. 4. They are then closer to her with melee weapons. Several appear to get back up, so there are 5 in close combat, planning to surround and overwhelm her. 5. She takes out 4 of them using her lightsaber and one runs away. Maybe you need to watch it again, or stop making up bullshit. I don't know, your choice.
It's like the reverse ninja logic but with female characters instead of ninjas. The more female characters you have in the series the more she's allowed to fumble.
@@Ruylopez778Or maybe you need to rewatch it and stop spouting crap defences for a shit writing job? If I was writing bullshit, I would have listed what you just did, pal. Maybe you would get further making logical arguments rather than insulting people, just a guess
@@Ruylopez778 1. So they should win 2. So they should win 3. That shouldn’t have happened then and she should idk kill them when she has the chance like a NORMAL PERSON WOULD 4. So they should win 5. That shouldn’t have happened Ya no this doesn’t help your weird simp for this awful character
It's a universal trait with humans, I've seen this in multiple countries. Just raise your voice and speak slower, that will surely make them understand! :D
One good writer can tell a good story. One good head writer with full authority over supporting writers can produce a good show. But a whole load of bad writers bickering… that is an excellent way to produce what we see from modern Disney
CHESTERTON'S FENCE!! "a simple rule of thumb that suggests you should never destroy a fence, change a rule, or alter a tradition if you do not understand why it was created in the first place." It's not about changing it or not changing it, but properly understanding why it is before you change it. It doesn't guarantee your change will be good or you won't fuck something up...but it helps.
@@chasehedges6775Not to mention, almost all great writers have other careers or significant life experiences before they start to seriously write. Nowadays they just hire 20-something's who've never been anything other than consumers, and it really shows in the hollow-ness of their work.
Problem is he’s perfect for Thrawn, just not being the physical body for Thrawn. Had they gotten someone else and had the actor mouth everything Lars Mikkelsen says in the recording booth and bam. Done
People can work out, even older actors. He doesn't really have much of an excuse, other than the people who hired him didn't bug him to get in shape. Unfortunately, the material is terrible. He kinda came out of rebels more or less okay, not perfect but not terrible. This is just... dire.
49:33 Guys, they built the Eye of S. to bring back the Chimera, that is Thrawn's flagship, not just its captain. Remember the hyperspace rings for fighters in the Clone Wars? This will be used the same way for a Star Destroyer to cross the intergalactic void. Why Thrawn didn't ask the Nightsisters before to send him back with a whale though... I presume the captain goes down with his ship.
in rebels a space whale covered his ship with its tentacles and jumped into ludicrous space. Why not make the same move again? They were sitting there for ~15 years. As baffling as Thrawn was in the cartoon he wasn't retarded.
Actors of Ahsoka, Hera and Thrawn: *wear their entire full body makeup to look like humanoid aliens* Emilia Clarke: "Nooooo. I hate green Skrull makeup! It gets coarse, rough and gets everywhere!"
@@whatisreddin7367 LMAO exactly 😂😂😂 she actually said they were too uncomfortable, never mind that for example the pirate dude in the first Pirates of the Caribbean wore those heavy HARD PLASTIC yellow contacts for the entire show, rain or shine, day or night, out in the middle of the hot as fuck ocean on their ship sets for the entire production... Actors these days...
Kubrick's the Shining is a perfect example of good deviation from the source material. It worked because it had talent behind it and competently made something new thats loosely based off of something else. Its all about the cook, not the cookbook.
1:26:15 Well, they were very specific in that the "no AI" rule only applies to the studios, not to the 30 writers per project they were forced to hire.
When Thrawn showed up on screen the first thing that popped into my head was "Blue Elon Musk?" They really should've gotten the person who voiced him in the Timothy Zahn audiobooks. THAT Thrawn sounds like you'd imagine.
Having seen this episode of Open Bar live, the whole discussion about MauLer being targeted by a report attack made take a look at his video. Now I understand the hate on him even less 😂
It would be cool if they actually showed Sabine using the Form 1 Shi-Cho moves that she was practicing in one of the earlier episodes. But continuity apparently means nothing.
The problem with the Ahsoka show's Thrawn is that the writers are trying and failing to write a character that is many orders of magnitude more intelligent than they are. Which is something you see a lot with modern writers because they themselves often think they're smart and clever, which they have conclusively proven they aren't. Meaning they look to themselves for answers as opposed to looking at decorated naval admirals or army generals. Instead of consulting Ceasar, Napoleon, and Zhukov to see how a cold, calculating and intelligent military genius would act. they think about what they themselves would find smart. Which puts the bar somewhere between the Tonga and Mariana Trenches.
Does anyone else get D&D Red Wizard vibes with the witches in Ahsoka? I feel like Disney acquired the D&D movie costumes and set piece on the cheap and forgot to modify them so they at least look different.
Timothy Zahn, the creator of the Thrawn series must be livid. The character of Thrawn was all about fitness, personal combat and had very strong leadership principles. He literally looks like another Emperor imitation. Lame.
I have heard that Filoni marginalized Zahns advice, and largely kept the creator of Thrawn in the dark the entire time. If I was Zahn I'd have raised hell. Clive Cussler was of a similar bent during the two times he let his Dirk Pitt character be put on the movie screen.
Sad thing, is that Thrawn in essence was a character that could have saved the Star Wars Universe if Kathleen Kennedy had gone the Xen'Chi invasion route. It would have made Emporer Palpatine and the creation of the Death Star make more sense. Instead, they've chosen to go the route of bland, formulaic, non-courageous, fan service. @@tr4480
So I wasn't sure who the "culprit" was who targeted Mauler, but I had a blind guess. And when she popped up and they said "There she is! Your nemesis!" I thought "I knew it!!"
How did they manage to make The Marvels cost 2.75 million per minute!? I'm imagining them being so lazy that they showed up the first day and then just threw it to the vfx team and said "fix it in post" 😂
I was laughing when all the Storm Troopers gathered in the patched together Star Destroyer hanger, and chanted Thrawn's name as he was introduced. Also, before it was said that the space whales go to that planet to die (and apparently somehow decay in the vacuum of space to become part of the planet's rings), I was wondering how they trusted that the space whales would go to the exact location they needed to go, then I remembered it was because the plot needed it to. I did roll my eyes when the droid started telling the story with the Star Wars opening scrawl title "a long time ago in a galaxy far far away."
24:50 What's funny about Ghostbusters: Afterlife is that they treat everything with such reverence. Everything except Ivo Shandor, who's still around but gets killed seconds after coming back to life. The video game had more respect for him than Afterlife did.
Afterlife wasn’t needed in the franchise. I get why people shilled the film though. I just couldn’t get past the first five minutes, or the brat they cast to play the main kid lead.
Talking about those ideas for Baylin it's funny because Mauler reminded me, that's exactly how they handle Maul in Rebels. He offers to help Ezra to further his own goals but he sticks to his word on things for the most part, while trying to subvert Ezra's belief in the purity of the Jedi. They could have just done the same thing like you suggested, with more of an angle on Baylin's integrity, but nah, forget all that shit.
3:40 I don’t think it matters if it’s liquid cooled or fan cooled, the heat generated is the same and will heat the room equally. The main difference is your taking all the heat from the cpu and spreading it out on the radiator so you can use bigger/quieter fans to cool it down. So it’s mainly for looks and reducing sound.
Not quite. The ability to distribute the heat more efficiently means you get more cooling per volume, so you can run more intensive hardware in a smaller device without frying the tech. For example, I might run a 3080 at 50C, but someone else can run a 4090 at 50C in the same size tower because their cooling is more efficient (numbers completely fictional for illustrative purposes). That's mainly why cooling matters - ambient room temperature is usually a non-factor, I believe.
@@bossked1563 yeah true, there are ways you can get more performance out of a system that will throttle at a certain temperature, but they were talking about using the computer to heat up a room and it shouldnt matter if its water cooled or not as the same heat is getting emitted and disbursed into the room. I guess if your getting more performance from a water cool machines that technically means more heat will be released though.
@@RikiB You're right, in context. I guess my issue was with your last sentence, the main reason people get liquid-cooled (afaik) is for performance, and that was what I wanted to clarify. Please forgive my pedantry. XD
Given how much they've been stealing plot lines, events and setups from other movies, video games, books, comics and TV shows, it would seem they said that so you don't end up experiencing too much deja vu while watching their "content".
MauLers video on Ahsoka was spot on. I also noticed that the Disney Star Wars shills were wearing headphones while viewing Ahsoka. This tells me that they probably were "produced reactions" from Disney's marketing department, blasphemy!!!
About the scene Mauler suggests in the prison cell - Sabine could have said something along the lines of 'I've been conditioned not to trust anyone with a red lightsaber, so thank you for keeping your word'. This could have given an opportunity for Baylan to respond and talk about his morals and goals, plus describing what a 'dark jedi' is for those who haven't seen rebels or clone wars.
My brother is watching Ahsoka with gritted teeth. He pulled up the Thrawn scenes for me and was prepared for every reaction but the one he got: Howling, screeching laughter for three minutes straight! Followed by a complete shredding of just the costume. Everything is obviously too small (except for the rank insignia which is about 3x too big), and the blue looks like they got 30 colour correcting palettes on clearance, slapped it on, and said, "Yeah, that looks decent!"
For the record if you watch the rise of skywalker with subtitles, Ashoka is one with the force already, they will have to have all or most of them die before getting back but that’s if they honor the lore they’ve set already
That’s a very good observation. However, knowing Disney, ahsoka probably became one with the force while still alive…she is ahsoka the white, after all.
1:52:12 - I would love it if you guys did a nativity scene (JLaw's suggestion)! Think about it - Mauler, AZ and Nerdrotic as the 3 wise men, Critical Doggo as Baby Jesus, and Drinker and Tatyana as Mary and Joseph 😂
The minimum writers per room is 100% a benefit for the union not the members. More writers more dues. And what really amazes me about the new Star Wars is how they were so adamant of throwing out the old cannon and creating new stuff just to take from the cannon and rehash it in a completely worse in every way form. They utterly lack the ability to understand what drove people to these IPs and they think by copying and pasting the film equivalent of “we have this at home” into their movies that they will make money. I for one am tired of the Wish version of every major part of my childhood
Thrawn needed to show some real smack down and cunning plan to establish himself as the main villain but Baylan is still more interesting. Opportunity missed.
It's very difficult to write an intelligent character if the writer is extremely unintelligent. F@gloni is a medium-functioning @utist and brainlet who thinks stuff like "Ahsoka encouraging Bo-Katan to lead Mandalore even though last time they met she watched Bo-Katan burn down a village of innocent people" is quality writing.
All you have to do is compare Thrawn's first appearance in the original novel with his first appearance here. It's like night and day. But then, Zahn never treated any of his characters like action figures. "Just stick 'm in there, it'll be fine. Hey, look, instant Thrawn..." Having said that, I also agree with Jonny, that many of the people still watching this grew up with Clone Wars and Rebels. If you couple that with ScriptDoctor's observation on MidnightsEdge, that the writing is the most ephemeral part of a show for most of the audience. They will talk about the effects, actors, music, choreography, but have a hard time seeing through that to the writing, but still think they're adequate critics just because they've watched so many movies and stuff. Taken together, the only thing I can come up with is that most people confuse how a show makes them feel in the moment with how good it is.
We’re nearing the day where the voice on the other end of the phone, calling to let you know you got the job at Skynet Studios, is Arnold Schwarzenegger.
I was surprised at how many people that have never seen/read One Piece got into it. I didn't think it really did much to bring people in, but like one of the guys I work with said, it took him back to watching Dragonball Z as a kid, and if that had been a(good) live action adaptation... This is how it feels like it would have been
I haven’t finished the video yet, but did we actually have a discussion about epic beards in media and NOT mention Kurt Russell’s follicle perfection in 1982’s The Thing?!?!?! Sacrilege!!!
I don't know, there's lots of sci-fi stuff out there that's not just Wars or Trek - the Expanse, for example - but it doesn't get anywhere near the coverage or 'eyes' on it because it isn't a known quantity. So you might think the opportunity is there to get in with a new thing..... but people are still just hanging onto the 'name brands'.
Mauler said there’s not much incentive for artists if everything is on the same scale. These are not artists. Artists are intrinsically motivated to create the best thing and push the boundaries. I’m an artist and I strive to make new better versions of my work all the time and nobody is even watching. These are craftspeople who learnt how to draft sentences together but never had an ounce of original thought or creatively.
Hey Drinker, could you upload Open Bar a bit earlier? It's a bit dissapointing that you have to wait for several days to be able to watch the stream. I can't watch it live because in my country it starts at 2 am.
We get it around Tuesday here, by which time I've watched FNT and BSUP and about to watch Main Event, and Open Bar topics all just feel like old news by then.
I’ll just be forever be pissed that you have an intelligently written show with great characters like Andor that no one watched and then you have this show that powers itself on nostalgia and everyone goes crazy for it. The fact that the people with Andor tried and succeeded to make an amazing new take on the franchise and it was ignored for Ahsoka proves that they’re unfortunately not interested in something that’s actually trying to be as emotionally impactful as George’s work and it pisses me off.

Who's the woman who got people to mass flag Mauler's account? Anyone have a link to the part of MauLer's video where he showed the thing people were complaining about?
I don't know for certain if this was actually said, but I heard that Rosario Dawson was cast because she's a longtime fan of the character. I mean, maybe she is, but I've seen more expression from people at the supermarket than I've ever seen her character portray.
She's been very good in other things (Kids, Sin City), so my guess is the problem is more the terrible script and directing. But Filoni still should have cast, or at least offered to audition, Ashley Eckstein; she could probably play an older-sounding version of the character if she was actually directed to do so.
@@twitchingbuck7440she already voiced older ahsoka in rebels and nailed it. Rosario Dawsons voice just has 0 emotion whereas Ashley is a phenomenal voice actor
@@whatisreddin7367 IMHO in Rebels Ashley's Ahsoka sounded a little too much like 14-year-old Ahsoka, but that was the director's fault not hers. Ashley Eckstein is a versatile actress (she voiced a tactical droid in several episodes), she probably could have made Ahsoka sound older if she was asked to.
It's sometimes cringe when I listen to people who don't watch/read manga talk about it, now 72% of the us watches anime regularly so I'd say that many people knew of One Piece in some regard so I agree with JL on this. I'm glad it's getting adapted properly but it doesn't need to be adapted, it's great on its own. It sucks that people who only really like live action have had a limit of good stories but I'm glad that anime watchers and manga readers have had an ever growing well of great content.
Engineer here for anyone interested in the PC cooling discussion at the beginning: Liquid coolers are generally more effective at moving heat away from the CPU than air coolers, which does result in the CPU being cooler but not the room the PC is in. The room heating potential (heat generation) of the PC will still depend on your usage and the (in)efficiency of the components.
It’s not an awkward conversation because it should never happen. Adults should understand they won’t get paid the same as a big name, and just do their best and negotiate for what they can, and not worry about Melissa , ur getting enough money for the job
Liquid-cooled computers produce just as much heat as air-cooled; the liquid just siphons it away faster. Laws of Thermodynamics, for us laymen: 1. You can't win. (Cannot get more energy out of a system than you put in.) 2. You can't break even. (Cannot get the same energy out of a system you put in.) 3. You can't even quit the game. (These laws apply no matter how much you don't want them to.) So yes, a liquid-cooled computer will heat up your room just as much, unless you're shunting it outside or something.

Bit of lore at the bottom for 5:44 about Mauler upsetting Star Wars react steamers.
The marvels budget confusion is from 27:05 to 39:15.
Ashoka talk starts at 39:20
The WGA strike starts at 1:21:40
So about what happened with Mauler.
To quote mauler in a tweet about her actions:
“you literally said ‘please report for using content without permission’ to your audience and called me a jackass.”
“I didn’t say anything about you personally, I just played the three-second clip.”
“Also, not a ‘hate’ video, but how would a professional clown know the difference.”
If you want to see what Louise Julie said during all this, go to YellowFlash 2’s video titled “Mauler ATTACKED by Disney Star Wars shill! Wants him TERMINATED and reported off RUclips!”
The moral of the story? When you can get a video out of Mauler in less than a week on a subject matter, you have royally fucked yourself.
Thanks for the lore dive
Typical Ieftist brigading, and even though it’s against Google/RUclips’s TOS, I guarantee she won’t be penaIized, or held to account for her brazen disregard for MauLer’s reputation, safety, and his livelihood.
Of course it was her. I've seen her on the compilation reaction channel and she's always annoyed me.
To me it's always sad when it's a cute girl doing that shit and not a blue haired land whale. Kind of like the Amber Turd case against Tonto...
@OmegaChance27 of course it was her. She is the worst one in my opinion. Especially for what she said about Gina Carano.

Shame that the Hollywood strike is about to end. It was more entertaining than the movies and shows so far.
Love that lool
I couldn’t agree more. It’s sad that they’re going to be paying these idiots again to produce terrible content for other idiots
I forgot how great Battlestar Galactica 2005 and Breaking Bad were. I'm glad they had the strike so I could be reminded of what a real show is.
@@brockdavid The union is the only reason the working people of Hollywood make adequate wages bro
in the books thrawn is a super genius, not just tactically but in every way. he was described as fit, and always wearing a white immaculate uniform. he was always in control and his ability to look at reality as a chess game allowed him to always predict what would happen and win. he was very intimidating and militant.
I remember a character in the book predicting a stardestroyer being about to show up at a specific location of the battlefield because Thrawn favored the strategy.
Even when you can predict him it doesn't matter because you'd have to justify expending ressources needed in other places to counter a "maybe"
I read that Zahn wrote him as a few degrees away from being an OP Gary Stu and he felt that he only lost because Lucas wanted the good guys to win.

I hung up my lightsaber after The Force Awakens. It took the last of the wind out of my sails. It's like watching a friend die.
I feel like this is applicable to a lot of things, and I think I've recently started to realize how much I've actually done this
Life imitates art... the “unenlightened” Star Wars fans are like the Jedi in RoTS.

Thrawn is famous for constant training to improve brain power. Fat Thrawn is anathema
It sucks because I really like the actor, he was one of the few bright points of Netflix's Witcher, but he was definitely a horrible choice for Thrawn. Looks like fat blue Elon Musk
Thrawn has become Heir to the Pie
@@AJTalon💯. They’re terrible writers
@@chasehedges6775 Yup. Terrible and stupid go hand in hand.
I was in a production of a documentary about some Danish history stuff a few years ago, where Lars Mikkelsen played the role of the host
My role was just as a blink-and-you-miss-it extra, but I remember Mikkelsen, being a super commanding and authoritative person on set, because he is so damn tall and long-limbed, towering over us young, not that tiny, danish lads who was playing a bunch of smiths on strike, and also because he's a top professional, plus super kind and patient with us extras
And he has so many roles, where he plays, basically, Thrawn (tall nazi-esk smart scary person)
I'm a little taken aback how poorly the Ahsoka show leaned into his natural talents
Still kinda cool seeing a local boi as the big baddy in Star Wars, even if the show is a bit...Disney
Thanks for great cozy pod-cast, fellas : )
Keep up the good work, and SKÅL(cheers)🍺
Lol gay
It's sad to see that Disney seems to under utilise good talent. Not surprised given its current direction but never the less unpleasant.
Elite of the Elite? They won’t last a second against Rey and Ahsoka…..there are no longer any stakes in Star Wars. It’s over…..all of it…..
@@OzzyHamid-cl2fi yeah... That's one of the things I'm worried about. Star Wars in recent years has been more about nice visuals than actually making sense. No matter if it even contradicts Disney's own plot as long as KK get's her self-insert...
This Thrawn doesn't look menacing at all. He looks like Data cosplaying as Thrawn.
Pretty much, I'm more worried he's the Lord Soth of Star Wars!
Tbf I think that will happen. When he takes the chimera back to seatos we'll probably get a scene where he wipes those 3 New Republic ships
That talk about Thrawn's entrance just reminded me of how amazing his entrance was in the original novel.
Glad to see this up now. I'd say a fair few people were delighted to see Jonny Law finally make it on.
I think the only major extra-galactic incursion in the old EU were the yuzang vong or however you spell it, and that was a nigh apocalyptic event.
@@blackosprey2219and even they took millennia to arrive iirc because it turns out intergalactic travel is hard
they really don't take into account how far away galaxies are from each other, even with a hyperdrive it should take thousands of years to travel between them. like one galaxy isn't big enough to contain their crappy stories, it is a joke.

Agree with you on the cheering. “I do not require glory, only results” Thrawn said. Anyways, Filoni doesn’t give a shit about Canon.
it's odd with all the CGI magic they have, they could have taken Lars's voice and imposed it on another character. After all they did that with Darth Vader. Arguably while Chiss are considered near human, that is no reason for them to look like a 70 year old human.
Jonny Law was a great guest. Brought thoughtful points and perspectives, and vibed well with the show.
Finally we got to see the cousin of Thrawn, the Grand Admiral Prawn
Sly District 9 reference?
I discovered Jonny Law a few months ago through his Witcher reviews, the guy is charismatic
There’s also the audio comic movie of the Canon Thrawn novels which is pretty good too.
Compare Disney's Thrawn with Zahn's Thrawn. Look what they did to my boy!

Nice to see Yellow here
Hope we get to see him on Open Bar more often 👍
@@tr4480
More Jonny Law plz, he was an awesome addition!
So I wasn't sure who the "culprit" was who targeted Mauler, but I had a blind guess. And when she popped up and they said "There she is! Your nemesis!" I thought "I knew it!!"
In my head it was her or the one who cries all the time
Out of all the brain-dead people that reacted, she was by far the most...well, just the most. For all the wrong reasons.
How did they manage to make The Marvels cost 2.75 million per minute!? I'm imagining them being so lazy that they showed up the first day and then just threw it to the vfx team and said "fix it in post" 😂
Incompetence by diversity/nepotism hires and/or embezzlement (they pocketed most of it).
I did roll my eyes when the droid started telling the story with the Star Wars opening scrawl title "a long time ago in a galaxy far far away."
buying your own hype... That trophy goes to Sensei Seagal.
24:50 What's funny about Ghostbusters: Afterlife is that they treat everything with such reverence. Everything except Ivo Shandor, who's still around but gets killed seconds after coming back to life. The video game had more respect for him than Afterlife did.
Who is that?
Afterlife wasn’t needed in the franchise. I get why people shilled the film though. I just couldn’t get past the first five minutes, or the brat they cast to play the main kid lead.
@@KitsuneAdorable Did people really shilled for it? I thought it was received with general apathy.
Remember Thrawn?...He's back...in Pog form...
XD
@@bossked1563 True that! Very good point I didn't consider.
Isn’t Admiral Thrawn from the book series HEIR TO THE EMPIRE?
I thought Disney was giving the finger to all the George Lucas Era, Star Wars stuff?!
From my understanding, this isn't "Heir to the Empire" Thrawn. This is Thrawn from Cowboy Hat Filoni's awful Clone Wars cartoon.
Only what they can't rip off and make worse
Feloni thrawn and timothy zahn thrawn are two very different characters. They just both happen to be blue and wear white uniforms.
F@gloni likes pillaging the old EU to incorporate elements of it into his embarrassing fanfiction.
Or they were listening to the show through their headphones so the audio wouldn't come through their mic.
Holy shit. Are you in qanon cuz that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard.
Surprised that no one has mentioned that Winstead is Kenobis wife. Love Ewan but…between his daughter in Kenobi and now Winstead as Hera. 😂
Excellent observations about ahsoka. I was thinking the same things.
37:03 "Either die a hero or live long enough to become a villain".
I wish they had stopped after Mandalorian S2. That was the best way to end it, tbh.
@El_Bearsidente Better than the Luke we got in TLJ
Low bar tbh
The minimum writers per room is 100% a benefit for the union not the members. More writers more dues. And what really amazes me about the new Star Wars is how they were so adamant of throwing out the old cannon and creating new stuff just to take from the cannon and rehash it in a completely worse in every way form. They utterly lack the ability to understand what drove people to these IPs and they think by copying and pasting the film equivalent of “we have this at home” into their movies that they will make money. I for one am tired of the Wish version of every major part of my childhood
When the stormtroopers were yelling “THRAWN!” it reminded me of a shittier version of the “GROND” scene from Return of the King.
When the woman said “realzeez?” I just remembered Az 😂😂😂😂
I didn’t know there are actual real life people talking like this
Andor and season 1 of Mando generated a lot of false hope. There is a lot of good stuff they could have done, they didn't though. And here we are.
Please bring on Despot of Antrim….that man is hilarious.
Looooooove Jonny Law!
Thrawn needed to show some real smack down and cunning plan to establish himself as the main villain but Baylan is still more interesting. Opportunity missed.
RIP Ray Stevenson
It's very difficult to write an intelligent character if the writer is extremely unintelligent. F@gloni is a medium-functioning @utist and brainlet who thinks stuff like "Ahsoka encouraging Bo-Katan to lead Mandalore even though last time they met she watched Bo-Katan burn down a village of innocent people" is quality writing.
All you have to do is compare Thrawn's first appearance in the original novel with his first appearance here. It's like night and day. But then, Zahn never treated any of his characters like action figures. "Just stick 'm in there, it'll be fine. Hey, look, instant Thrawn..."
Having said that, I also agree with Jonny, that many of the people still watching this grew up with Clone Wars and Rebels.
Agree, Lars Mikkelsen ist a good actor, but miscast as Thrawn
Members should be called Regulars.
We’re nearing the day where the voice on the other end of the phone, calling to let you know you got the job at Skynet Studios, is Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Name and shame these people! Why does no one do this!?
Great to see Johnny Law on!
I was surprised at how many people that have never seen/read One Piece got into it. I didn't think it really did much to bring people in, but like one of the guys I work with said, it took him back to watching Dragonball Z as a kid, and if that had been a(good) live action adaptation... This is how it feels like it would have been
No one has been told no except for Favreau when he wanted the Mandalorian to be the star of The Mandalorian.
@@samuel5591 exactly. That's why unlisting it on the main channel and reuploading a few days later is so wrong
Brian Blessed: "Gordon's alive!?!"
Not only is he out of shape, his uniform is baggy.
He doesn't look at all menacing.
To whoever tried to mass report Mauler, drop dead lady
Real Star Wars is the Prequels, the Original Trilogy, and the Expanded Universe. No more, no less. Anything outside of this is just cringey tumblr fanfic.
Hi Johnny! Glad you are here!
I remember when blue-collar jobs were getting automated. And we were told learn how to code. Why is this any different
How did Thrawn go from buff to fat on that barren looking witch planet, was he eating the snail people
Who's the woman who got people to mass flag Mauler's account? Anyone have a link to the part of MauLer's video where he showed the thing people were complaining about?
I don't know for certain if this was actually said, but I heard that Rosario Dawson was cast because she's a longtime fan of the character. I mean, maybe she is, but I've seen more expression from people at the supermarket than I've ever seen her character portray.
Old Folded arms.. I mean Ahsoka 😂
She's been very good in other things (Kids, Sin City), so my guess is the problem is more the terrible script and directing. But Filoni still should have cast, or at least offered to audition, Ashley Eckstein; she could probably play an older-sounding version of the character if she was actually directed to do so.
Some old guy thought I stole his cart and he gave an Oscar-worthy performance
Anime is shit.
Engineer here for anyone interested in the PC cooling discussion at the beginning:
Liquid coolers are generally more effective at moving heat away from the CPU than air coolers, which does result in the CPU being cooler but not the room the PC is in.
Laws of Thermodynamics, for us laymen:
1. You can't win. (Cannot get more energy out of a system than you put in.)
2. You can't break even. (Cannot get the same energy out of a system you put in.)
3. You can't even quit the game. (These laws apply no matter how much you don't want them to.)
So yes, a liquid-cooled computer will heat up your room just as much, unless you're shunting it outside or something.
In the movie "idiocracy", the movie the lead goes to see is people farting on the screen and the top TV show is a guy that gets kicked in the manhood.
