Despite Rebel Moon part 1 and part 2 previously releasing, now Rebel Moon is back with Zack Snyder's preferred directors cut and 2 hours of extra content. But did the critics reviews agree that this was Zack Snyder's fixed masterpiece? Can Anthony Hopkins save it? Is Rebel Moon worth watching?

Rebel Moon Directors Cut reviews are in and the critics are coming for Zack Snyder. While Netflix thought it was a good idea to split the same movie into 2 halves then release it twice, most people didn't think it made sense. Is the first cut the deliberately bad one or the 2nd? As such, few critics or viewers even returned to watch Rebel Moon a 2nd time around. And while director's cut does slightly improve some elements around the motivations of the characters and the action. Rebel Moon remains at it's core, unfortunately the same movie. There are now added in extra threads that serve no purpose and are never explained, but this at best seems like a cheap attempt at a reason for a sequel. And with less than 10% of the critics and audience returning, a Rebel Moon sequel seems like a long shot. But what did you think of what you saw? Let me know your thoughts down below and as always, thanks for watching :)

Throbbing
I'm just jumping through the scenes that are new... Honestly, I'm amazed this story was even green lit.
The Village Father could have acted himself, said that the Crop yield is this and they can sell that much without compromising their own supply. Hell, they could've struck up a return business arrangement to supply the ship with them buying at 3x the price.
Rather thick premise. Like the whole thing.
You dont like the movie and thats ok. Go eat a steak, and grow a jaw, for god´s sake. Soy is messing up your testosterone.
That scene where the musicians are playing while ppl get murdered is a bit like the Cloris Leechman scene from Younk Frankenstein where she plays the violin as whats his face gets closer to a revelation.
Then she shouts the "Vas my BOYFRIEND!" bit.
Just a reminder that making something "better" is not the same as making something "good" :)
Yes. It's only making it less shit 😅
It's not better though..it's just longer.
Exactly what happened with Justice League. The obviously better Snyder cut did not make it a good movie.
I was really hoping the grain was used as fuel, that way, when there was a ship chase scene, the pilot of the ship being pursued could exclaim, "Oh no, they're graining on us!"
Grain!
@@rosssoyka860 Go to the Dune universe, and substitute spice with grain, and tell me what the difference is? :P
maybe they just wanted to breaden their audience?
Quality, good characters, Intelligence, and actually meaningful substance. It's like comparing wine to colored dyed water.
The answer is to release the Snyder-er cut, followed by the Snyder-est cut, a cut so Snyder that not even Zack Snyder wanted to allow Zack Snyder this much Zack Snyder in Zack Snyder's film. If they can just release re-cuts of the same movie four times, surely at least one of them will be good and make a morbillion dollars.
Underrated comment 😂
Dude is such a douche
Basically the movie-equivalent of Skyrim.
The answer is to release all of the assets on Steam and let you, the player, cut the film. There can be achievements for getting the splattiest Tomatometer, the most Razzies, and for rereleasing your own cut in black and white as a separate cut.
@@TimmyDisorder You could turn it into a contest. Zack Snyder will personally rate every cut of the film, and the person with the best cut gets to turn into Zack Snyder.
Rebel moon…where the trailer is actually better than the finished product.
Yah, my bf and I were watching the trailer and saying let's watch it and while watching it, it just got worse and worse.
"trailer better than the finished product" is Snyder's middle name
Id go a step further and say. The review of the trailer is better than the whole ass movie.
That's the case for every Snyder project. Its been that way since Sucker Punch.
If he made a Star Wars movie, we can finally learn how a moisture vaporator works.
@@ttabood7462 That'd be 30 seconds of our lives we'd not only never get back, but also spend the rest of our lives regretting the fact that we spent it watching that film. Much like all the drivel that Disney has been vomiting out over the last few years. I suppose, in that respect, Snyder would, essentially, have delivered the Star Wars movie he always wanted to give us.
They say in space, no one can hear you scream. But after Rebel Moon, I think my neighbors might have heard me groan.
Ughh... 😆
"NYAAAAAAAH!" -- that one Rabble Moon scream meme

I love how adamant filmmakers and producers are these days to not care about the audience and what they want, like, AT ALL.
It'd be crazy to think how failure is supposed to equal success in the eyes of modern Hollywood, but since they like to change the definition of words and morality, I can't really be that surprised.
Yeah, it's weird.... They make stuff that isn't good... and expect praise for their artistry... when... it's like meticulously making a detailed painting... of a random apartment on fire. Sure... it's good as... practical demonstration of painting techniques.... but it's not VALUABLE.
Entertainment gone to sh*t after the industry decided that they're entitled to decide what we should like
I’ve failed. It’s sad. No twist.
Many movies seem to be aiming for a new, young, politically charged social media audience.. written by generative AI trained on Star Wars, Star Trek, Dune and modern advertising
But you ignore the fact that the audience is usually contradictory in their opinions on whether something is good or not, whether media has something worthwhile to say or not and if a product is worth your money, or not. Because for every person saying something is good, there are those that say it isn't, for every person saying it's well made, there are those that say it wasn't. If you don't have an OBJECTIVE standard to measure anything on, then subjective public feedback is the only thing that a filmmaker, producer or writer can rely on, and that varies deeply on factors that have nothing to do with the quality of your work, like whether you are popular, are appealing to the right demographics, paying the right professionals for the right kind of press, etc.
Might as well be called Ego Moon because Zach thinks he's bigger than he really is.

Ego Moon sounds like a better name for a scifi story then rebel moon.

The fact that I'm expecting the "combine harvester" more than any character, any place, any spaceship, any weapon, any hottie or baddie ... there's literally nothing in this movie better than a farming meme song. It's scary, if you think about it.

A movie isn't a meme for having farming, what are you, 12? 'Days of Heaven', which he probably attempted to steal from, was a superior movie in every way. And no underroos.
@@denroy3 Also, aren't movies SUPPOSED to be "meme-fertile territory"? :P
Zack got a little too comfortable after the Justice League Synder Cut. It's clear he doesn't understand that only worked because people wanted to see what his version of that movie was. You can't recreate that on purpose especially when it's your own movie.
Also, there was an actual demand for his cut of the JL film because the audience care about the characters. Here, these are blank slates that no one have any emotional attachment to them, so there is no reason for anyone to care to see a "superior" film featuring them when there is no reason to care about them to begin with.
And Zack is better when he can work from established material (see 300 or Watchmen) vs when he creates from scratch.
Plus there is such a huge gap in style between Joss Whedon and Zack Snyder that everybody knew his movie would have been something different entirely.
Worked? It was awful🤷♂️

I didnt watch the OGs, I knew the Synder cuts were coming so I waited. I binged the two of them back to back, because I apparently hate my eyeballs and want them to die.
I dont know how bad the OGs were, but these Snyder cuts are fucking horrid. And in part 2 theres an hour long section where we get an back story info dump of all the extra characters intermixed with farming porn, and its painful to sit through. Its so mind numblingly dull I had to slap the fast forward button to just get through it. Whenever anyone died, I did not care one bit. No matter how much the movie swelled the music to try and make me.
And the sex scenes... they just go on and on and on. At one point I started to wonder just how long I had been sitting alone watching these two people have sex. I started to feel like a dirty peeping Tom.
All in all, it was just terrible at pretty much everything it tried to do.

To quote Immortan Joe: "Mediocre.". Rebel Moon was a B movie with A movie special effects.
Indirectly asks while hanging out.
“Where is the fucking 180”
It is absolutely a B movie. I thought Sucker Punch was bad. But at least that movie ends. This one keeps going.
Also, I get that okay, gore is a big deal when it comes to thee ratings system. Makes sense to add it in the director's cut for this. But what is the point of the s*x scenes? First of all, the movie looks like trash with the colour correction and the editing and the blurry lenses. Secondly, I'm not a puritan, but the s*x scenes seemed forced in the original and just garbage in the director's cut.
The scene in The Watchmen had more weight to it. It was cringe the way Snyder did it. But at least you care about the characters, and given where they are emotionally, it makes sense
No, Predator is a B movie with A movie effects. B movies are generally dumb fun, even when they are bad, with cheap effects and actors chewing the scenery. Think Friday the 13th or something. This is below that--it has the writing acumen of a C movie, the pretentiousness of an arthouse film, with fairly high-budget special effects (most of the time). The only credit I can give is it's not as terribly written as, say, the Acolyte, where you can't even find a throughline from scene-to-scene, but it is boring. I find the sex scene thing funny as well--I don't really like sex scenes in movies because they are boring, they don't add anything, just cut to black, but it's funny to imagine how that was going on set, spending hours and hours pretending to have sex under the hot lights with Snyder belting out directions. Just...awkward. You think anyone on set was like "Mr Snyder, I'm getting a little uncomfortable watching these two mimic intercourse for 8 hours, I have a wife and kid to go home to who ask me for cool stories about my job each day!"
Calling this a B-Movie is an insult to B-Movies!

"That's a dark place", said Snyder. Por SOB is afraid of the dark, no wonder he doesn't get Batman at all. Or even to the likes of A24 and Blumhouse. Or any of a number of foreign creative teams to give us the next Train to Busan (~8mil budget), Godzilla Minus One (10-ish mil budget) ..... The list is nigh endless.
Hell, going that route also means that even if only 1 in 10 connects with audiences you'll still be better off. Hell, with such movies there's even a better chance that more overall people would get say Netflix, since they (or their competition or even a traditional studio) can actually cater to niche(r) crowds with some of these movies and since their initial budgets are nowhere near as bloated as even "midrange" Hollywood fare, the metrics for success and turning a profit becomes easier

It sounds like this review is a lot more interesting than either rendition of the movie. I'm glad that I missed it.
A directors cut should be the original before the studio recut it to censor, shorten or simplify it - the directors cut should show his original intent.
It has the "Zack Snyder's Justice League" problem that by simply making the movie obscenely longer than the original cut it makes the movie better. Needing your "director's cut" to be anywhere between 3 and a half & 4 hours in order to get your "vision" across is an a self-own that you've got it wrong... TWICE.
In case of the Justice League version though: that one was released on streaming only, so the length only matters if the pacing is bad (which imo wasn’t the case).
I think Rebel Moon would have benefited from not going for an actual movie format, but some kind of miniseries. And as it’s streaming only, it could have been just an R-rated version instead of whatever this approach is. Teenager will figure out how to watch it anyway, no need to try a PG13+ version for streaming imo.
@@davidgantenbein9362 The pacing was AWFUL in the Snyder Cut, with us watching things like people just walking down hallways or up stairs for a solid minute, all throughout the film. It was WAY worse than the original cut--Snyder actually removed good scenes of character development to replace them with scenes where absolutely nothing happens.
Exactly. Why do people think that the Snyder cut was better than the cut version? They must be stupid, not been paying attention, or both.

The sad / crazy thing is I have seen video of her and the stuntmen rehearsing for a fight scene (The one in the barn, near the start). They are all moving at normal speed and it looked natural. She was obviously capable of doing it at the same speed as the stuntmen. So, was she told to slow down or did something happen which meant she couldn't do it any-more?
Re Snyder's comment against focus groups- I happened to be reading the other day about how the first Iron Man film came to be, and focus groups were instrumental in its development. And this is a movie that ended up being so well liked that it helped set the stage for a highly successful cinematic universe. So focus groups aren't necessarily detrimental to a film's quality. Snyder's just revealing how he can't handle criticism of his work, and how he tends to think he's right.
Both extremes are bad; if your movie is made exclusively based on superficial appeal to random teenagers you grab off the street, that's bad, or if it's made entirely off of what the suits THINK people want because of their market research, that's bad. However, it's usually just as bad if a movie is made entirely out of one guy's vision with absolutely no pushback. Both things can work sometimes, maybe, but generally, you need a balance--you need an artistic vision, yes, but even famous novelists have editors to critically evaluate their work and rein in their worst tendencies.
@@billjacobs521 Well, they do before they get famous and start believing their own hype. Then they get to ignore their editors and put out unreadable trash, because lord knows the publisher can't tell the difference.
Focus groups kill artistic intent. Iron man is undoubtedly an incredible film, but as a work of art, it does not hold a candle to any of Snyders films (despite the fact that most are much worse lol).
Iron man is great but it’s entertainment not art. Marty was right, marvel isn’t cinema.

This is a perfect example of Netflix insulating producers from customers. Without a direct correlation of dollars to product, everything gets lumped in together and the whole thing swing toward suckiness. One thing network TV was good at was grooming bad stuff and quickly getting the customers more good stuff. Netflix is the opposite of that and Rebel Moon is a good example.
What surprises me more than how bad it is; was that I finished watching it.
Coal powered starships and space farming for galactic resources was like watching a clown urinate in its pants in slow motion, while using dramatic hand gestures to describe Othello.

What annoys me most about Rebel Moon is that the premise is cool and in the hands of somebody different (or someone keeping Snyder on a leash) it could've been good.

Its adorbs how Snyder tries to dismiss and belittle the interwebs. ...like a school girl.
The problem is when creative types like Snyder are given absolute free reign to put whatever they want on screen. He really should have some more pragmatic and experienced people who've been around the entertainment biz for a long time there when he's making a show/movie and be willing to tell him NO sometimes and make sure he has to listen.
I actually love the idea of 1 director filming a bunch of scenes for a movie, and then having 2 different directors take the scenes and make their own movie with the footage. That would be fascinating.
As long as Snyder isn't involved, it sounds great. Joss Whedon shoots and Nolan and Jackson edit a movie.
I watched these piles of garbage originally out of morbid curiosity and the end result was, yeah, it was sh*t. So when my coworker came up to me "Dude, the DC of Rebel Moon is out in 4 days! Are you going to watch it?" To which I responded "Why would I want to watch longer version of that trash?" And he legitimately went into full domestic at me yelling at me how good of a classic it is, how it's the new Matrix, how Snyder is the best ever etc.
And when I reminded him about the general scores both of those movies got. I shit you not, I got back the exact answer Snyder himself gave. It blows my mind how brainwashed some people are, no quality standard, just consume the slop.
Fantastic ultra violent and explicit films. Maybe a bit long. Would like to see a fan cut version combining both parts and make it 3-4 hours.
lmao, after hearing you talk about having to concentrate more when making videos because you take off your glasses, i now know why you make silly mistakes reading, and i love it!

Zack, I agree internet armchair critics can be stupid. But you might actually be worse than them.
As my physics teacher once said: If in a certain dimension everything has the same value, then this dimension doesn't exist. And this is why the chracters in that movie are one-dimensional!
Yo, I have the same profile Pic on my other account. I was so confused, and thought I'd already commented. LMAO
It's a 1930s Soviet Union propaganda movie about farming 😅.
