My cousin lived in Minneapolis for a few years and I got to visit him in 2013. Need to note this is the most bicycle friendly city I had ever been to. Entire bike paths complete with traffic lights, separate from roadways. And the paths go around the lakes. So beautiful. Also shout out to Britt's Pub downtown!
How dangerous is Minneapolis? The overall crime rate of Minneapolis is 57 for every 1,000 residents, which makes it one of the highest crime rates in the united states. So, if you are moving, visiting, or just driving through Minneapolis, there are some areas that just should be avoided. How The Most Dangerous Cities Are Determined
The murder of George Floyd in May 2020 revealed serious problems with law enforcement. In June, the Justice Department published a report about the Minneapolis’s police department, stating that it remains plagued by unlawful conduct, discrimination, and mismanagement. According to a city police spokesperson, the department has undergone a number of reforms over the past few years. In addition, a new police chief was hired last year to change the culture and narrative around policing and public safety
I've lived in Minneapolis all my life. Been to everything you did a few times. You missed First Avenue that was made famous by Prince. Downtown Minneapolis is a ghost town after the Pandemic. A lot of companies went to remote or a hybrid work place and never looked back. I love all of our State Parks, hiking trails and lakes. The winters are actually mild and only a week or two where going outside physically hurts but you can always go farther North for more cold. I'd recommend Duluth and the North Shore. You will see a lot of Scandinavian influence all over Minnesota but a lot more as you go North. You will hear where the Movie Fargo got the accent from when you go to the North Shore. We also have a large Hmong population and the food is outstanding. Thank you for all you do! The B-Roll filming and editing was some of the best tourist videos I've seen.
Terrible city for diversity. Snow bunnies everywhere that are not curvy and are passive aggressive. Great example of how organized and clean white cities are. Austin will surpass it in about 15 years as a more diverse, warmer, larger version. The Vikings colors are terrible and women drive craxy asf during winter..
I have visited Minneapolis a few times, and I have to say it is a lovely city. I don’t think most people would think of it as a “destination” but I think it’s highly underrated!
Having grown up in Minneapolis, I want to congratulate you on your VLOG! You did a nice job of capturing some of the features of our city. This is the first time I've watched any of your videos and I'm extremely impressed with the photography and editing. You guys have a keen eye for getting the right shots!
We're in Canada, but Minneapolis is our "big city" for travel, many times. A coupla things on the to-do is rooftop lawn bowling at the brit pub downtown, and biking around the lakes areas.
I’ve loved here my entire life and Minnesota is definitely amazing! You guys absolutely have to come up to Northern Minnesota. The North Shore- Lake Superior, Duluth, Split Rock Lighthouse, the Brainerd Lakes Area etc are all unbelievable! Great job showcasing Minneapolis though! Super fun!
I also live in Minnesota I love going up north (I live in St. Paul) and wanted to know if you have ever gone to mall of America you can just like my replie if you have
"It's generally accepted that Matt's is the OG" 😂 there's a full war on 5-8 club vs Matt's in MN. Both are great, but very different takes, and everybody has their opinion of the OG or best. So fun to see Minnesota featured for something other than our winters & small towns! Really just don't come February- April & it's a gorgeous place to be.
You'd be welcome in any establishment with a haircut like that Eric. Some of my ancestors led by master-mason Alfred Jones commuted to Mn/St Paul from North Wales at the turn of the 19th/20th century because of the demand for experienced masons. His two sons stayed there, but Alfred's wife missed home so he returned and died in Halkyn, Flintshire. He'd previously helped build Halkyn Church, along with the "marble church" in St Asaph and St George's Hall in Liverpool.
You missed the fact that the Stone Arch Bridge is part of the Mississippi National River & Recreation Area. It's the only national park in a downtown area . It's got hiking, kayaking, boating, and waterfalls. It's beautiful and was right below your feet.

Okay, I'm old. I knew Matt Bristol. When he had new menus printed to have the Lucy added, the printer made the error in the spelling of Juicy. When Matt brought the error to the printers attention, he offered half off on the job. Being a frugal businessman, Matt accepted the offer. It was a topic of interest to many, so Matt stuck with it.

Oh my! The camping possibilities in Minnesota for you two are endless! You have to go to Itasca State Park and walk across the beginnings of the mighty Mississippi River. Northern Minnesota is so beautiful. But, bring industrial-strength bug spray because the mosquitos are the size of Cessnas! And don't forget the deer flies. Other than that, it's beautiful!
Come back to Eau Claire again soon. You'll be surprised by how much it has changed, and for the better!! It's because of the video that y'all did here that I watch travel vlogs at all. Thanks for starting a true addiction❤😊
I know you didn't have time to do more of Minneapolis, the Mary Tyler Moore statue is fun and the capitol of St Paul has lots of neat stuff too. But if you ever get the chance again you need to go up to Duluth and see Canal Park, the Ariel Lift Bridge, Glensheen Mansion, Enger Tower and other interesting sites. Then go over to Lake Itasca to see the headwaters of the Mississippi River, Go up to International Falls (Canadian boarder) and back thru the Boundary Waters and Voyagers National Park and then down the North Shore of Lake Superior back to Duluth. IMO the best parts of MN :) I also hope you took the River Road (HWY 14/61) back to St Louis..again beautiful....but since I live there I'm a bit biased lol...Have wonderful travels wherever you go and Ill be along for the ride!
@char2cool4you..it’s really not…. My guess is your over 55 and just hate on stuff because you’re old and bored. The crime rate is relatively low in comparison. The walk ability and bike ability in the city is literally among the top in the country. Also it’s relatively affordable. And has tons of jobs.
That glass fish at the Weisman used to be in the Sculpture Garden! I had no idea the Weisman had it now. I'm also very amused that the apartment hallway art piece is still there. I used to go and see that when I went to school at the U back in the mid 90s! The architect of the museum is Frank Gehry, who also did the Guggeneheim in Spain and the Walt Disney Concert Hall. His style is very famous and it's a really big deal to have one of his buildings here. If you see the Weisman at sunset, the colors reflect off the building. It's very cool.
Spoonbridge and Cherry was created by the Swedish sculptor Claes Oldenburg. The sculpture park sits adjacent to The Walker Art Center for Contemporary Art. The Weisman Art Museum was designed by architect Frank Gehry, and is part of the University of Minnesota. Minneapolis is a vibrant, diverse, and creative community. You will need to return to experience more of the many treasures that the city has to offer.
Lyn-lake brewery is next door to the first sake brew pub in the US! Ext time go see moto-i Sake brewery & ramen house. Main floor with bar, second level lounge with bar and the rooftop!!
I’m not seeing it in other comments so far, but the spoon and cherry are meant to truly be viewed during our endless winters - the snow makes it become an ice cream sundae
So happy to see y'all making a stop in our lovely city! It's a shame the vehicle troubles shortened your time. We do indeed have a LOT of amazing breweries that are well worth a visit. And for good restaurants to check out, I'd recommend Red Cow for amazing burgers and Smack Shack for a great casual seafood spot!
Dang! You came to my city! Would have been cool to see you out here. If you guys come back up I can show you the north shore Lake Superior area which is really cool
She also told you to take a small bite first. Just a nibble off the edge to open it up. That way it doesn’t blow out the entire burger. Glad you enjoyed though. Definitely my favorite. If you ever come back make a stop at Zakia deli for a gyro. Amazing
Had to make up an excuse for losing track of the conversation I was having with my boss because I got distracted by the notificaton for this video.....now, time to enjoy it!!!
We try to make winter fun, but there's no denying the fact that it can get really cold here. I'd definitely also recommend checking out St. Paul, Stillwater, and Duluth. If you want a scenic drive along the Mississippi, you can drive down hwy 61 through Red Wing and down to Winona and La Crosse. The bluffs are very pretty and lots of eagles and other wildlife!
Best way to eat a Jucy Lucy is to let it sit and snack on the fries for about 3-5 minutes and take a small bite of the burger and dip your fries into the cheese. I grew up in Minneapolis and people who visit are always surprised at the temperature of the cheese even after the server gives them the warning.
If you are going to Wisconsin any time soon I would highly recommend checking out House on the rock. Unfortunately it is in the middle of nowhere but definitely an interesting experience and worth the drive.
Nice job covering our city!🎉 It was fun to see what you chose to include. You did such a great job with the snapshots between the narrative segments. I'm sure you will make it back sometime, bc there is so much more to enjoy! Happy trails! Take good care of yourselves and yours!
You guys really should make your way to Chattanooga one day. I know you would love it. Amazing and accessible hiking, so many breweries, and just an all around cool city!!! I live there and would love to see y’all’s take on the city!
As a person from the twin cities, y’all did a great job exploring what we have to offer. Also the spoon and the cherry sculpture is a “mini apple” spin-off of the big apple (NYC) and the spoon represents ice cream for the cold winters 😊
Being a Minnesotan and growing up in the cities I’m so happy you hi-lighted Minneapolis but as you said there is so much to do in Minnesota and it depends on the season too. Definitely need to try to give a go in winter too. Safe travels!
You can go ice skating on the lakes, cross country skiing in our many parks, sledding, go ice fishing, we even have lots of down hill skiing, especially along the river bluffs, snowmobiling, snow shoeing, the list goes on!
Minnesota for a winter visit only makes sense if you're into skiing, icefishing, pond hockey, etc. Or if you're doing business. I live there and winters can be long and miserable; like this last one. I won't sugarcoat it.

I’m from Minneapolis and I’m bummed on your behalf about the Foshay observation deck being closed 😭😭😭 It’s my favorite building in the city and certainly a legend in its own right. Hope you get to make it back some day to get up there, Eric!
I got on my bike in Minneapolis when I was 4 years old and went on a little adventure...cops brought me home after a nice grandma type lady offered me milk and cookies and called the police. My mom was mad/happy at the same time when they brought me home! I still live within a few miles of Minneapolis and have lived in and around the city at different times in my life. Glad you were able to at least get a little taste...and hope you get to explore the area more on another trip.
Another enjoyable video. I would probably be one to get the warning announcement about climbing on that spoon bridge. It was obviously made to be climbed on. 😂. Y’all need to come to Kentucky and do the Bourbon Trail. You’d also love the Red River Gorge area, full of beautiful hiking areas and natural bridges that you ARE allowed to climb on. There’s also Cumberland Falls which has this hemisphere’s only moonbows when there is a full moon.
There used to actually be people in the skyways. The hollow echo sound was very depressing because they used to have a hum of activity. But as a twin cities resident I really enjoyed your video!
This Minnesota gal, currently living in Missouri, loves that you went to Minneapolis. I am originally from Minnesota, and I have lots of family there. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to spend much time in the twin cities as an adult. I need to rectify that. I do go home to the Mille Lacs lake area when I can. When you get back up to Minnesota, I would recommend a trip up the north shore of Lake Superior. The boundary waters areas are fantastic as well. I am sharing your video with my Minnesota family. I'm sure they will be familiar with the places you went. Looking forward to your next video.
My dad had his office on 38th and Chicago back in the 60's and 70's, now made famous by George. My dad's hangout was Matt's on 35th and Chicago, I used to love when he ordered me a Jucy Lucy.
Grew up in Minneapolis suburb but have been living up in Fargo/Moorhead area for the last 22 years. Your visit touched my heart. I remember when they first started building the amazing downtown skyway...when the IDS tower opened (and dwarfed the Foshay)...and when the sculpture garden was first opened. (Ya, I am old.) Thanks for the visit. :)
Grew up in Duluth, lived in Mpls since 1981, have fun in the skyways. Wife and I used to stand on the Stone Arch Bridge to watch the July 4th fireworks. Thanks for stopping and visit again. The Twin Cities also have very large Vietnamese and Hmong populations. My favorite restaurant since 1985 is called Quie Viet on Johnson St. in Northeast Mpls. Cheers & safe travels.
Thank you for that Great Video ! I am 68 years old and grew up in Mankato Minnesota ,moved to Minneapolis in 1976 to attend the University of Mn. I moved to Arizona in 1991, had a wonderful career in Real Estate and am now ready to retire and move back to Awesome Minnesota ! Yes I do plan to be a snowbird and leave during the cold winter months. My fondest memories are riding my bike around Lake Calhoun (now a differant name) with my boom box and headset listening to Awesome tunes ! What a beautiful City Lake ! Shortly after the Walkman was invented, I got the Toshiba brand and enjoyed Incredible Fun listening to tunes in my headsets while riding my bike around Lake Calhoun ! Mineapolis has so many Fantastic restaurants and pizza places pointed out in the video. One that comes to mind is the Leaning Tower of Pizza I believe at Lake and Lyndale still in business today ! I just have so many fond memories of Minneapolis and can't wait to get back and explore and see what is new ! The Culture, Theater, Art, Music scene, as well as the first class restaurant variety and cuisine are second to none ! The beauty of the City with all of its Gorgeous Lakes are Spectacular ! Thank you for reading and I can't wait to get my first Jucy Lucy that I didn't know about in the 70's !
Incredible Video! I feel like you cover a wide range of amazing things the city has to offer. Also please do a US States scratch off map update! please :)
Bummer you missed the Foshay! I also love to stop and grab a drink at the bar just below the observation when i happen to be around there. Cool decor and great views at night. Maybe come back late summer, hit the state fair -MUST- and then go up to a VRBO on a lake next time -ALSO A MUST. (Besides family/friends, the lakes are what keep me in this state despite the cold winters 🥶.) Bonus, you could also catch a Vikings preseason game in the new stadium.
Yay! So glad you came to Minnesota ❤Also it would have been cool if you could have stayed longer. The Stone Arch Bridge has an art festival every summer and it was here on the 17th and 18th of June..not sure when you were here. I do hope you come back again to see all the other things that Minnesota has to offer
as a minnesotan i loved this!! but i have to say even though when most people think of minnesota, they think of minneapolis, its not the best city here. the actual answer is Duluth and the surrounding area on the north shore. It's absolutely stunning there with lake superior, fun shops, lighthouses, national parks, etc.
If you ever get back to Minnesota can I suggest Stillwater, its the birthplace and IMO one of the most beautiful places in the world. Especially in the fall! Also Duluth in the fall. I cannot suggest enough to come visit in fall ❤❤
So weird, I wrote a long comment with recommendations for your next visit (Mankato & Redwood falls) also telling you about our upcoming maiden voyage to MO in our RV that we’ve been working on… I came back to make an edit & it disappeared. 🤔🤷🏼♀️ Anyway I was coming back to add you did a great job of showcasing Minneapolis & I think I’m going to have to take my husband to check out the Jucy Lucy. I hope to see you on the road. ✌️
So happy you guys have kept going and best wishes with love regarding your families situation. Nice haircut Eric and great video as always 👍 ( 500,000 dollars for a giant spoon and cherry ! WTF 😳 ) Best wishes to you all from Britain 👍❤️🇬🇧🇺🇸
It was created by Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen. And Oldenburg was one of the biggest names in world sculpture. Half a mill back in the day for an Oldenburg was a bargain.
Definitely try mixing the banana and (usually very, very spicy) chilli sauce with the rice and salad next time you eat Somali food! It’s a great flavour combination to the extent I now do the same with home cooked curry too! From a Londoner with many Somali friends…. 😊 And when you’re ready to travel further afield again perhaps travel to the sources of the cuisine? Lots of amazing beaches and cities to explore and correct some misconceptions!
Back in the seventies when the IDS tower was built, it and the Foshay tower were the two tallest buildings in Minneapolis. And because of the IDS's shape, the joke was that the IDS was the shipping container for the Foshay tower.
I was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota!!!! But when I was a baby we moved to California, SO I THANK YOU for showing me where I was born!! BEAUTIFUL PLACE!!! HUGS/LOVES!!!!
Happy you came to Minnesota, but next time you visit come to ST. Paul!!!!!! It is a totally different experience!!! The two cities couldn't be more different!! St. Paul is very welcoming and friendly just like your family. Please come back and visit St. Paul
Come down to La Crosse, Wisconsin! Beautiful Driftless country. Tour down the Mississippi. Eagle and owl centers. Potosi Brewery and Beer Museum (better than it sounds). Dickyville Grotto. Indian Mounds.
Hi, you were in our neck of the woods. Looks like you had a good time and hit most of the big stuff to do. If you do come back in the winter we can show you how to stay warm in the RV.
Thank you for doing Minneapolis some justice! Such an amazing city!! You'll have to visit it's "Twin" sometime! Totally different vibe! BTW, we are VERY outdoor active Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall!! Great video!!
Great video!! I am so glad that you were able to visit my home state. You definitely do need to return and head up to the North Shore which is along Lake Superior. Or, spend a few days canoeing in the Boundary Waters which has pristine lakes. Definitely a lot to do/see if and when you return! Love the channel!
Lovely to see you both 😊 what an amazing city i bet there plenty more for you to see Sure you be back again at some point 😜. Safe travels looking forward to hearing what you got planned next. Take care 🥰
Hi guys...I was born in Southern Minnesota, where I came back to Retire in my Small Town of Clarks Grove. I lived in the Twin Cities for 22 years. I was up in Brooklyn Park and Champlain.ive never seen another City that is Well taken care of, than Minneapolis!!! Beautiful City to live in!!!

Both 5-8 Club and Matt’s Bar claim to be the original Lucy Burger. 5-8 has been open longer. I love both!
Take a drive up to Duluth next time and do the state parks along the north shore. .
She also told you to take a small bite first. Just a nibble off the edge to open it up. That way it doesn’t blow out the entire burger. Glad you enjoyed though. Definitely my favorite. If you ever come back make a stop at Zakia deli for a gyro. Amazing
Eric bless you and your family. Sending you prayers for strength and health. Love your videos. Love you two!!❤
The juicy Lucy from The Nook in St Paul is my favorite. I prefer it to Matt’s Bar
We'll have to try it next time! 🍔
The nook LMAO
Thanks for highlighting our great city.
Had to make up an excuse for losing track of the conversation I was having with my boss because I got distracted by the notificaton for this video.....now, time to enjoy it!!!
Haha! Hopefully they didn't catch on! 🤣
If you listen to podcasts be on the lookout for Charlie Berens. He hosts the bellied up podcast and frequents Matt’s.
Nice job covering our city!🎉
It was fun to see what you chose to include. You did such a great job with the snapshots between the narrative segments. I'm sure you will make it back sometime, bc there is so much more to enjoy!
Happy trails! Take good care of yourselves and yours!
Those sky bridges are genius!! They keep pedestrians safe and out of the weather. All cities should have them. 👍
skyway. 🙄
The skyways really aren’t safe at all, lots of crime there. But I can see how they look like great ideas in theory!
Nice haircut!! Glad you enjoyed the Twin Cities. Safe travels back South.
Being a Minnesotan and growing up in the cities I’m so happy you hi-lighted Minneapolis but as you said there is so much to do in Minnesota and it depends on the season too. Definitely need to try to give a go in winter too. Safe travels!
Minneapolis in the winter have you lost your marbles we should try it in the winter😂.
@@d.r.martin6301 I completely agree this last winter was long and brutal 😂
How dangerous is Minneapolis?
The overall crime rate of Minneapolis is 57 for every 1,000 residents, which makes it one of the highest crime rates in the united states. So, if you are moving, visiting, or just driving through Minneapolis, there are some areas that just should be avoided. How The Most Dangerous Cities Are Determined
I’m from Minneapolis and I’m bummed on your behalf about the Foshay observation deck being closed 😭😭😭
It’s my favorite building in the city and certainly a legend in its own right. Hope you get to make it back some day to get up there, Eric!
A cool fact.... It used to be Minneapolis' tallest building!
Try that now, and the next Sound of Freedom movie will be based upon a true story about you at 4 years old
we also have the largest Hmong community in America also
It's also the most Swedish state
And, outside of Somalia, MN has the largest Somalian population, also.
Great to see you traveling.
As a local... yes. I love this state, and you couldn't pay me enough to leave.
My dad had his office on 38th and Chicago back in the 60's and 70's, now made famous by George. My dad's hangout was Matt's on 35th and Chicago, I used to love when he ordered me a Jucy Lucy.
ummm? Matt's is on Cedar Ave, not Chicago Ave.
@@ZenSPIKE1 You are probably rignt, I was just a kid and haven't lived in Mpls in 40 years
@@1307scooter Not a problem, but it on Cedar Ave for sure , l have lived for over 70 years just off Cedar all that time.
I remember the movie The Cube, it was cool!! Love Minneapolis!!
Love it when you do these info videos. You do them so well. You inspire me to travel there and I thank you for that.
Sporting a nice haircut Eric and your humor is a riot.....but Allison comes in subtly and seizes the moment! No haircut needed! Enjoy you guys mega!
That big fish you saw in the Weisman used to be at the walker art park in a glass building. One of my favorite things to see as a kid.
Incredible Video! I feel like you cover a wide range of amazing things the city has to offer.
Also please do a US States scratch off map update! please :)
I have family that lives there. I enjoy seeing all of the tall buildings when we go to visit
Minneapolis looks like a very nice city to visit 👌 👏.
LMAO you are sorely mistaken
It’s really quite unpleasant, smells a lot and boring except for a few things are interesting.
Not anymore.
Its terrible
as a minnesotan i loved this!! but i have to say even though when most people think of minnesota, they think of minneapolis, its not the best city here. the actual answer is Duluth and the surrounding area on the north shore. It's absolutely stunning there with lake superior, fun shops, lighthouses, national parks, etc.
I know really want to go explore this city, looks like a awesome trip.
Hope you got a chance to explore St Paul. A gem of a city.
The glass top courtyard at the IDS center is called the “Crystal Court”
Oh man, that juicy Lucy looks so good, it's almost worth flying across the pond from the UK just to try it.
Anyway I was coming back to add you did a great job of showcasing Minneapolis & I think I’m going to have to take my husband to check out the Jucy Lucy.
Right!? I feel like $500,000 could've helped the city in more ways than just a giant unusable spoon with a giant fake cherry on top 😂
@@TsunamiKitten56 I know!
It was created by Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen. And Oldenburg was one of the biggest names in world sculpture. Half a mill back in the day for an Oldenburg was a bargain.
Excellent FLIGHT OF THE NAVIGATOR reference!!!
Lots of amazing beaches and cities to explore and correct some misconceptions!
as a Somali, thank you guys for visiting us, we really appreciate it, thank you. btw that is birris and hlib😊😊
What do you mean as a Somali? What does being a Somali have to do with Minnesota?
@@ruew151990,000 people of Somali descent live in MN.
@@ruew1519minnesota has the largest Somali population in the United States
Yes, drive "up north" to unique Duluth, Grand Marais, and all the way up the north shore to Lake Saganaga for pure beauty!
I believe the Foshay tower is the 1st skyscraper in Minneapolis
Happy you came to Minnesota, but next time you visit come to ST. Paul!!!!!! It is a totally different experience!!! The two cities couldn't be more different!! St. Paul is very welcoming and friendly just like your family. Please come back and visit St. Paul
st paul is really cool, the people are so friendly and diverse.
Come down to La Crosse, Wisconsin! Beautiful Driftless country. Tour down the Mississippi. Eagle and owl centers. Potosi Brewery and Beer Museum (better than it sounds). Dickyville Grotto. Indian Mounds.
I agree, only I know where Potosi is ! My 4 times great grandpa from Potosi.
Hi, you were in our neck of the woods. Looks like you had a good time and hit most of the big stuff to do. If you do come back in the winter we can show you how to stay warm in the RV.
First, the hair cut is great. Thank you both for putting together such an awesome post. Have a beautiful day.
In Calgary, we call the "sky bridge" the Plus15 because they are 15 feet above ground.
Thank you for doing Minneapolis some justice! Such an amazing city!! You'll have to visit it's "Twin" sometime! Totally different vibe! BTW, we are VERY outdoor active Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall!! Great video!!
Minneapolis is a proper metro vibe metro area, whereas Saint Paul is more like a neighborhood made up of a bunch of smaller neighborhoods.
Lovely to see you both 😊 what an amazing city i bet there plenty more for you to see
Sure you be back again at some point 😜.
Safe travels looking forward to hearing what you got planned next. Take care 🥰
Great video and very informative. Here with my family for first time
Love your haircut, Eric! You’re lucky to look great no matter how long or short you cut your hair!
