      I didn’t know how else to contact you but my name is Dan, I run a youtube channel called Press A, where me and my cousin do Pikmin challenge runs. I'm running a Pikmin 2 1v1 tournament and I'm trying to find youtubers in the Pikmin community who would be interested in participating. If you are interested please let me know and I can give you more information.
      Thanks,

    To be clear, 2's red aren't useless when you acquire all the other types. For starters, purple do outclass reds overall, but are rarer too. In the first few caves, purples have a 20 pikmin limit. This means you can either have 20 purples or however many reds you want.
    Also mentioning that the 1000 pikmin dumbell helps balancing purples. Since it needs 100 purples overall, it can be a pain to acquire them. Knowing the existence of the treasure made me use more reds, and made me save my purples for the end. Maybe reds are not the best, but they still are pretty handy to have in the group.
    Also so happy mission mode/bingo battle was put into account in Pikmin 3 lol

      It’s a weird argument of optimality. Like, if you’re not worried about going fast, then you shouldn’t be worried about grinding for Purples, but if you want to play quickly, Purples and Spicy Spray invalidate Reds. Not enough people talk about how Spicy Spray makes Yellows and Blues invalidate Reds in combat. There’s a lot going on with Pikmin 2 that I’ll likely get into in the Purple Pikmin video

      ok to be clear, I know there is no overlap between reds and purple, bc there is. What I'm saying is because purples are so limited, it still gives reds use. Knowing the ending caves and the dumbell going into Pikmin 2, I prefer using reds and making a stock of purples before arriving there. Even if you didn't know about the end game, it would still be useful having reds. For example, even tho its way faster using purples than reds killing enemies, I don't think it translates in practice. You would have so much more reds than purples in a casual playthrough ; most likely if you took a big squad of reds, they would kill the enemies as fast as the purples. But then you have to carry it back, and I'm sorry purples just aren't that great at it. They may be a bit invalidated by purples but they still do have their case uses.

      @@PickoYT_ One of the main things is White Pikmin. If you do a second White Flower Garden visit (which I highly recommend) you’ll have 25 Purples and 30 White Pikmin after the third cave. 25 Purples is enough to kill basically anything, and 30 Whites can max out almost any object, and you can grow more in later caves. There’s not much reason to use Reds when 20 Purples kills things just as fast, which gives you more space for the best carrier and anything extra you might need (Yellows and Blues) for caves in the midgame. That’s not to say there’s absolutely no places Reds can be usable in, but when looking at how to maximize your efficiency, Purples do more in less numbers giving you space to truly max out your carry potential.

      I think I'm gonna leave it at that, for me, reds are always handy to have as much alongside purples than not alongside them. Fire hazards can still be a pain in some caves and I personally prefer having them than not. They could only be C tier at worst for me and I couldn't say "worst in the series" since 3,s whites exist. I respect your opinion tho some points I just can't agree with.

      Fun fact, without glitches/boundary breaking, you can actually have 29 purples by the end of day 2. If you finish Emergence Cave without collecting the Spherical Atlas, you can return to the cave and get another 10 purples. But what you should *actually* do is only get 9. The game stops spawning any purple candypops in Emergence Cave once you have 20 purple Pikmin. So if you exit the cave with 19, you can actually go back in for another 10, to a total of 29. I'm not sure if it's different between versions (I did this on the Wii version), but it can be very helpful towards getting the necessary 100 purples- I just treat 4 purples as not worth resetting over since the candypop buds provide 5 each.

      I could probably spend two hours ranting about the absurdity of Bulbmin. Not just from a lore standpoint, but from almost all standpoints including gameplay and development.
      Without reading the wiki, how is a player supposed to know Bulbmin are immune to all elements? Why are adult Bulbmin poisoned when they eat White Pikmin when the young Bulbmin can breathe poison?How is a player supposed to know a cave has Bulbmin if they have 100 Pikmin already? Why is their idle glow green if their stems are orange?! Why is Nintendo so content with obfuscating Bulbmin from the games and promotional material when they can?!? Why did they even make Bulbmin if they intended to hide them so thoroughly?!?!?
      And then Pikmin 4 drops a lore bomb onto us and reveals the same (or similar?) subspecies of Pikmin that control the Bulbmin is what’s inside the Rock and Ice Pikmin as well. I was fairly confident before 4 that parasitic Pikmin were specialized for Bulborbs, but now these “Hermikmin” are apparently broad enough to take over inanimate material?!? And why do Rock and Ice glow grey/turquoise and cyan respectively if Bulbmin grow green? Does this imply there’s multiple species of parasitic Pikmin?!?!? Everything I’ve gathered about Bulbmin inevitably leads to questions upon questions that have yet to be even acknowledged in over 20 years.

    I’m kind of surprised Pikmin 2’s Challenge Mode wasn’t really acknowledged as a context where Dandori/efficiency and type limitations actually matter for the game. Obviously 3’s Mission Mode is overall better and much more interestingly designed, but if there’s any time where Red Pikmin’s presence and Purple Pikmin’s speed limitations actually matter, it would be there.
    I would also like to concur that 4’s type limitations are a tad too restrictive. With Flarlic increasing your field Pikmin count, I was wholly expecting another Flarlic type that increased the type limit to 5 and was quite surprised when I found out this wasn’t the case. At the very least, they should have lifted the type limits for 4’s Piklopedia, where the sandbox structure permits players to mess around with however many types they could want.

    • @Pikmanfan2002
      @Pikmanfan2002  3 месяца назад +4

      I did think about Challenge Mode, but I partly just wanted to finish the video and partly thought it'd be more entertaining to just bash them in 2/discuss this specific dynamic more in-depth with 3.
      Challenge Mode is interesting because, alongside the rest of Pikmin 2, it's very... not focused on time lol. It's true Reds are useful there in the same vein as Mission Mode, but in terms of the points you get, one second is one point. The timer decreases once every 2 seconds. 1 Poko is worth 10 points. So every poko you get is worth 20 seconds. Add in the possibility of getting Mitites from Eggs, which is a random bonus of 100 points, and the general random cave layouts... there's a lot to discuss. RNG dictates your Dandori far more than effectively using types normally does, and it matters so much more in this smaller bite-sized cave scale compared to the main game.
      So in short, a lot to discuss with Challenge Mode parrots Mission Mode but the discussion is vastly more interesting and impactful in Mission Mode. For if Challenge Mode redeems Reds from 2, well, it loves to give a lot of Spicy Spray at the start of each level, and stages that both have Reds and lack Spicy Spray are usually gimmick-focused ones like Snack Pit, so Reds aren't really the best attackers still... unfortunately ):
      (I think the only stage with remotely considerable enemies, Red Pikmin, limited Purples and no Spicy Spray is Cave of Snarls)

    If you're curious about the oddball pronunciation of "Discotheque", it's because it's a loan word! It's French in origin, a mix of disco (as in music) and bibliothèque (library) meaning, obviously, a library of music, which is.... Loosely, what a Discotheque is. It's a club, music is played there, and by extension stored there. Language is fun.

    7:22 I'd say Pikmin 3 Whites/Blues are the closest to being as bad as Reds in 2, and actually not too far away, Whites are pretty much flightless Winged Pikmin that do a little damage when eaten, the speed increase is useless when Pinks can just take shortcuts but Whites are exclusive to Bingo Battle and Mission Mode and thus looking at them in a general scope is pretty much pointless, so looking at the main story, Blues are invalidated by Pinks so much that the only use case of Blues is fully submerged fruits (there's like 4 and in the speedrun route two of them are collected with Pinks through a glitch) and that one dirt wall in the Tropical Wilds.
    TLDR, In 3, Pinks invalidate Blues and, by extent, Whites so much that you barely ever want or even need to use either. I don't think I played enough Mission Mode stages with Blues to say for sure how the stack up with other types there, but you get my point. All 3 are really bad compared to everything else. I'm not sure you can argue any type in any game is worse than Reds in 2 but those are the 2 next worse by far.
    Also, about 9:21, I always just used my bare hands to kill them after going through the Blublax Kingdom, it's less risky if you're familiar with their attack pattern and it doesn't take as long as you'd expect.

    • @Pikmanfan2002
      @Pikmanfan2002  3 месяца назад +1

      I wouldn’t lump Whites in there because it’s the whole thing of how good and bad types is a really tough thing to grasp. Whites are only hypothetically bad compared to Winged, and seem worse because of their nerfs from 2, but in the contexts of Mission Mode and Bingo Battle, none of that really matters because Whites are absolutely optimal in those modes when used right. Their speed is objectively king without Winged, and even with Winged, they’re still better for specific objects and just generally really freaking fast.
      Blues are… weird, though.

    what does dynamic mean

    • @Pikmanfan2002
      @Pikmanfan2002  3 месяца назад

      In the context I'm using it, a dynamic is essentially how the player interacts with a game. Not in a physical way, like controls, but more in the thought process of it. The game has a mechanic that limits your Pikmin type diversity to 3 types at once, and this creates a dynamic where you need to think more about what type combination you want to use.

    A bit of an arbitrary battle of semantics, but I don't believe its correct to call reds outright terrible in 2. As they are, they are a perfectly serviceable type that performs their function as a combat unit well, which contrasts with something like wings in 4 where their use cases are hampered by their flawed pathing. Reds in 2 are severely outclassed, but they're not awful, fundamentally speaking.
    (Also this has no bearing on my argument but I just wanted to express my liberal use of reds in 2 anyway despite there being objectively better options, mainly because I like to challenge myself with not spamming purples as much, and also I'm lazy and don't like grinding for the Doomsday Apparatus or for sprays.)
