  • Volvo believes the way to achieve low emissions across the model range is through downsizing, turbocharging, and adding hybrid drivetrains. This is Volvo's first attempt not just at a hybrid, but a plug-in hybrid. Under the bonnet this V60 has a 2.4-liter diesel, and in the boot there are batteries, which offer a theoretical range of 50 km (31 miles).

    I have a Volvo V60 D6 Plugin Hybrid since May 2013. My average consumption is 3,6l/100km (I drove more than 80.000km). So the range in pure electric mode is 30/40km in winter and 40/50km in summer. It is possible to cool the car (when plugged in). If it's hotter dan 25C (it wil cool to 22C). If it's colder than 18C, it will warm up the car.

If I drive in powermode I can outrun 90% if the cars on the highway. It looks good and drives smoothly. With eco-incentives and tax refunds I'll pay less than a third of the catalogue price over a period of 5 years (the Netherlands).

    Hi, In Portugal, Volvo sells the D6 P-I with 10.000 euros discount for business customers, before tax. In addition, +35k vehicles pay 35% tax on the autonomous calculus of IRC (profit tax): Hybrids only pay 17,50%. Topping that fact, business customers can deduct the VAT amount because the NET price of the D6 P-I is below 50k (circa 42k). So, after VAT the car costs 52k, 10k is deductible VAT; the over the top payable amount in IRC is 17.50% of the NET price (7350 euros). Fon a non-electric solution, V60 D5 225 Momentum Geartronic sells for 50k VAT included: over 35k NET so it would pay 35% on autonomous taxation *0.35
    =12250 euros. So for a company, the D5 would imply at the end of the year a 12k payment to the government putting the final price over the 62k. But that is not all. The 35% are applied to ALL expenses done with the vehicle: That includes diesel, maintenance, tires, insurance. So taking in consideration that Electric costs are not directly imputed to the vehicle because they are normal operational costs on a business, the 2.5lt per 100km of the D6 P-I signifies a 3.25 euro direct imputed cost per 100km. In the other hand non-hybrid solution from any brand, 215 HP 2.400cc would spend at least 7.5lt per 100km: 9.75eur per 100km. Those costs calculating a 50.000km in 3 years average would amount to 1625 eur for the Hybrid and 4875 eur for the Thermic solution. 3250 difference. On top of that, the autonomous tax collection would apply at 17.5% to the 1625eur for the hybrid (285 eur) , and at 35%, 4875 eur for the Diesel (1706 eur). Yet another parcel of 1421 euros in disadvantage to the Diesel. Only taking in consideration the Diesel costs that are directly related to the vehicle, the difference is 4671 euros in 3 years. Nevertheless, energy costs of charging the Hybrid are not considered but it is said to be circa 40% and those costs are nor directly imputable to vehicle costs so they are not taxed autonomously in IRC, more yet, they are production costs and deducted from taxable income. The opposite. Furthermore, it would also be possible to calculate the difference in 3 years for ALL costs.
    On top of this, O saw a few test and videos that consider 60km to be an accurate authonomy for the D6 P-I. Why did you only are able to do 35km? Are you charging it Plugged in or only in Save Mode? Save mode only charges 60% of the batteries. Just out of curiosity: 35km is the Merc 350 Hybrid autonomy. I find these numbers curiously coincident. Disclaimer: I do not have a V60 D6 (yet) nor a Merc 350.

    And:
    I get more than 50 km far with pure electricity. It depends on your driving style. And if your airco is on or not.
    And you know why the diesel sounds a little bit different after your battery is empty? Because the diesel engine is recharging your battery, so you have a little bit of capacity.
    And last but not least: the feeling of the steering depends on what tires are mounted. 235/45/18 wheels with Potenza S001 tires drives really good.

  • @miller1520
    @miller1520 3 года назад +4

    Bought a 2016 with 180k. My best is 48km in pure mode, with the AC off. Which is decent, but it did take some practice. I recharge mine at home, just plug it into a 220v wall outlet in my garage. A full recharge takes about 3.5 hours. Again, not that bad. Cargo space was suprisingly doable for a family of four. Lastly, the diesel won't bother you too much once you understand the logic of this car. The diesel is audible, but at low speeds only. And that's when you should be driving in pure mode. Once you get to know the car, it will all make sense.

      @miller1520 3 года назад +1

      @@MarekDrives Exactly, very good point. It has to fit your daily routine. Today I do most of my driving within a 75km range. Once I go beyond that my gains begin to disappear quite rapidly. Though the diesel returns about 18.5km/liter. Which is not bad, coming from a petrol engine car. I bought it for 16.5k in the Netherlands with a full 6 month warrantee. You can get them cheaper but this one came with all the right papers and was exclusively Volvo maintained. Which is important because you don't want some tinkerbell patching up a car like this. Too many things can go wrong and you, the owner will end up paying for it. Marek, I like your videos. Could you maybe in the future spend some time looking into rising service costs of cars now that manufacturers stuff them more and more with complex and sensitive electronics? I have a feeling that what we're saving in fuel economy comes back twice as hard on repair charges. Not that my car has had issues but it's a matter of time I'm sure. Anyway, thanks Marek!

    • @MarekDrives
      @MarekDrives 3 года назад +1

      @Gabor Moolenaar that's the thing. I hear everyone complaining about getting big bills on car repairs, but I don't know anyone, who's actually received one. Increasingly often you can buy a service plan with a new car.
      I've been driving one car for 8 years now, and it's literally only oil/filter change, brake pads, etc. I get the impression the problem is with cars that haven't been properly maintained and/or the owners haven't been persistent enough to make sure their warranty claim is honoured.
      That being said, I realise not all service outlets are equally good.

    • @miller1520
      @miller1520 3 года назад

      Well, maybe it's just hearsay then. I certainly hope so. The last 10 years I only drove Volvo's and they never let me down, not once. Service was cheap because I did not have to bring it to the dealership. The S80 was primitive technique, anyone can fix it. I'll look into Volvo service plan, thanks for the tip.

    I would like to know the fuel consumption when it's never plugged in and only driven in classic hybrid mode.
    I recently did a test drive in a Toyota C-HR hybrid and I managed to drive 57% in electric mode and had an average fuel consumption of 5 liters per 100 km over a distance of 13 kms.
    And I did a traffic light run with it and wasn't having a tender right foot.
    This Volvo is a diesel, for which the road tax will be higher compared to a petrol hybrid.
    I don't have a garage so I would have to put an extension cable over the sidewalk. I don't think my neighbours will like that :-S
    Most of my rides are short distance city driving though and a reasonable amount of brake applications.
    I am very keen on safety systems like automatic braking and adaptive cruise control.
    So I just want to know if it will be worth the significant amount of extra road tax.

    2015 will probably be the last year in which this car in The Netherlands will have the 5-year eco-incentive that makes this car so very popular as a dutch company car. But halfway 2015 we'll always see the introduction of the Passat GTE, which more likely will be a more balanced driving experience. I bet the Passat GTE will immediately outsell the plugin V60 in The Netherlands, but time will tell. Anyway I hope you'll get the chance to review the Passat GTE by then!

    • @MarekDrives
      @MarekDrives 7 лет назад +1

      AFAIR there is no shaft driving the rear wheels. The idea is that there is always some minimum charge left in the battery to power the rear wheels, when needed. That said this setup is not designed for serious offroading, but rather to temporarily improve traction in adverse weather conditions or when driving dynamics require it.

The engine is the same as in the d5 and they had problems with the engine between 2011-2013 and that they lost water when you do full trottel and you get an warning for low water that might be a sign that the engine is shit. also the gearbox can have some problems. take attention to shift if its smooth than ist good if its kinda ruff than a gearbox overhaul might be necessary. The problem with the engine starts mostly in the 40-80k kilometers range with 150000 that time is past. it also depend if the car was driven for a companie because a lot of them don't use the battery and don't charge what's good for you because the batteries is in better shape than on a consumer car but i don't think that problems can happen here. i can recommend a that car with that mileage

They've had this one in production for many years. You can expect about 40km on a charge. That may be more but you'll have to practice a bit. Especially if you can recharge at work, for free, you'll notice a positive dent in your fuel bills. Also, 150k milage might well be kind of a sweet spot for this car. I can confirm that many of the points in this video are, in fact, nonsense. Firstly, away from lights this will do under 6 seconds to 60mph. That’s quick.
    Secondly, the Diesel engine noise isn’t ‘unpleasant’, but has actually got a rather nice tone to it, being a twin turbo 5-cylinder. Under acceleration it produces more of a growl than a traditional diesel, and it’s also very smooth too.
    The steering really isn’t as bad as he makes out either. Another point he says is that ‘there’s no point using full electric mode at higher speeds because it drains the battery quicker.’ True that the battery drains faster, but if your daily commute or regular drive uses a shorter 10 or 15 mile mix of city roads and a 60/70mph roads, the battery has easily enough to do this. The ‘extra weight’ (150kg) he ‘can feel’, again is almost certainly in his imagination. It’s simply like having an extra person in the car. Do you ever notice when you have a passenger in the car, unless it’s very small and underpowered? No.
    He also mentions the car can’t be remotely cooled in summertime from the hybrid battery, yet actually shows the smartphone app at 3:40 mark which states ‘your Volvo will heat or cool the cabin to a comfortable temperature’.
    Finally, there’s absolutely zero mention of the excellent seat comfort, high level of quality of the materials, and the build quality of cabin, and also the incredibly high specification level that comes as standard on all the plug in hybrid versions, and very little about the incredibly high level of both passive and active safety systems on the car.

    This car costs 53.000 EUR, swedish state gives a 4.000 EUR compensation to a buyer of a car that lets out less than 50g Co2/km.that gives you a price of 49.000eur, winter tyres are not included in the price.
    In the video you say that the car can not be pre-cooled, that is incorrect. You can start a pre cooling process via the volvo on call app when the car is plugged in.
    If the car is nott polugged in then it pre cools only for 3 minutes.
    I have a range of about 45 km in pure drive mode in my car, but it's under 40 km in the summer when the air condition is needed.

      As far as I remember there was no pre-cooling in app I installed. And it was pretty warm at the time, so I really wanted to find it ;) Perhaps it depends on the market. I will ask Volvo about it again.

    In Norway we have taxes on everything, like horsepower in an engine. So when you buy a car with a big engine a one time tax will be in the total price of the car. So a Dodge Charger Hellcat would probably be at least $200.000 where $100.000 goes to the government as a tax. Compared to a top spec Tesla 90 700hp awd which would cost a tad over $100.000. This is because we don't pay this silly tax on electrical hp. That's why you can see a lot Teslas in Norway, quite a few people can afford Teslas from 70-100k dollars but an equivalent 500-700 hp car using gas would be 200-400k dollars. Same goes for hybrid cars, we pay tax on the gas/diesel power but not on the electrical power. It's not really an incentive it's just one less tax to pay.

    Unless plugged into renewable Power, no such thing as even near zero emissions mode! It pollutes while parked over night on charge. In UK 500g/KWh CO2 average energy mix - so say 35km EV mode for 9KWh to charge up 8KWh battery pack: So real world CO2 of 128g/km in EV mode!

    My overall impression of your Volvo reviews is that you do not like this brand. Which is ok, everyone can have their own opinion and taste. This becomes quite obvious in your review of the V40 CC . A car that is praised by 99% of the reviewers (and myself) except you - who basically said it was crap. Excuse the language. Therefore i agree with one of the comments below that maybe more objectiveness is needed when it comes to your Volvo reviews.
    About the V60. Had no trouble getting 40 km on pure drive through downtown. But when the temperature outside is high this will of-course drop. This is definitely one of the beast hybrids out on the market. Even comparing it to "cars" like the Nissan Leaf or Opel Ampera gave me a laugh. Maybe they have similar drivetrain but as a complete car the Volvo is a premium brand compared to those. Do not compare apples and pears just because they both are fruit. The V60, It's not made for cornering but the performance is very good otherwise. Or do you compare it with a 991 Turbo? My opinion is that you do not give Volvo the credit they deserve overall. Just my opinion. No offense. Cheers!

      None taken.
      I do not give Volvo credit, because it had nothing interesting to show over the last several years. However I just got back from the first presentation of the new XC90, and I'm ecstatic about it. I'm in the middle of editing it now.
      As far as comparing apples and pears, there are not many electric/hybrid/PHEV vehicles to compare the V60 PHEV to.

    • @neilold9645
      @neilold9645 10 лет назад +1

      Marek Drives I understand how you are thinking. And it's absolutely true that there are not many PHEV (especially DHEV) to compare it to. Just didn't see the leaf and volt/ampera as the main opponents. Dosen't matter. The SPA platform is a game-changer for the brand. Finally a car can be developed without the restrictions and cheap parts from Ford. Interesting upcoming years.
      Well as it comes to interesting it depends on what you consider as interesting. In my opinion the V40 might even be the best car in the segment, next to the Golf. With safety which is a total different league than the others, good looks (matter of taste thou) and good dynamics. I mean, the V40 is a better car to drive that the A3/Golf. Maybe just a little lack of feedback in the steering thou. While the 1-series dominates. The 60 cluster is not on the same level as the 3 series and C-class to be honest. They are really premium. But compared to the A4, i think it's there. Okej, the quality feel of the Audi is world class.But experiencing the car in total, the A4 does not beat the S/V60.
      Well. this is probably a matter of personal test. I will still keep following your videos thou. It's very interesting to compare impressions from journalists in Sweden, Croatia, in your case, Poland and the rest of the world. The impressions etc. Have a nice day!

  • @tarassu
    @tarassu 10 лет назад

    Volvo made this car too powerful (and heavy).
    100km/h in pure mode is perfect but that diesel engine is way to powerful.
    I would recommend 4 cilinder diesel. Also fuel tank for 450km is fine as gas stations are everywhere. Also there will be more room for batteries.
    Also making car 100kg lighter would be also good idea. 11kWh battery should really last for 60-70km in city, not less!
    But that price is really bad. Tesla costs only a little bit more but it is much much more than just avarage Volvo.

    Tester is full of shit...I've owned one, and real life consumption is exactly what Volvo claims, and it handles really well with extra weight in the back, even better than "fossil" v60s, but the Polish tester is probably schooled on front wheel drive Russian Fiat knockoffs so it's scary when you loose the safety of consistent under steer...

    • @MarekDrives
      @MarekDrives 9 лет назад

      I'm sorry to disappoint you, but the older Fiats made in Poland were RWD, and so was the Lada 2100 series. So get your facts straight. Perhaps you can tell us more about the ownership of this car. And most of all, why you parted with it?

    • @mikaelcarlbom6790
      @mikaelcarlbom6790 9 лет назад +1

      Sorry about your old Fiats, I only remember FWD crap (grew up outside the iron curtain...). I had to sell the D6 V60 since I was relocated to USA, and they don't qualify for the D6 (Only sold were you have sustainable power production) so I had to return it...got more money when returning it 1 year old then I paid for it new...BTW It was one of the original numbered first 1000 vehicles...Estate, AWD, 0-60 sub 6, 50 km/L Diesel...Pretty Good...
      Driving T6 PoleStar now to compensate for my year of 0 emission...little bit faster but not much....

    I've never seen your reviews before, but it's more subjective than objective. I'm very disinterested in opinion in a review like this and far more interested in objective criteria. I've seen an acceleration test of this vehicle which makes your subjective comments about its acceleration clearly wrong. I'm not sure what's important in a Polish car test, but I like to see facts not feelings.
