There are a couple ways to interpret the ending. First, that the top is not his totem, it’s his wife’s. His is his wedding ring that only appears in dreams. (He’s not wearing it at the end). The second is he walks away from the top while it’s spinning. He no longer cares what’s really real as long as he can see his kids. He’ll make this his reality whether it’s a dream or not.
I never noticed the wedding ring detail. Thanks for sharing!

Loved how quick you were understanding it. Just from getting it was a dream in a dream, and that his wife manifests in the dreams as a character is brilliant can’t wait to watch the rest right now

@@NewfieMovieReactions Good advice from them then! I think the ending is meant to make the watcher think what they think. Really weird I wish there was a definitive ending I hate guessing. Saw a comment saying he was in a dream the whole time due to what characters had said to him throughout the film and I think my mind is going to explode 🤯

Joseph Gordon-Levitt is absolutely amazing in this movie! I think he really came into his own for this one I love the fight scene in the hallway!
Yup it was amazing.
Inception is one of the greatest science fiction movies of all time. It was something new, fresh, unique, inventive, stylish, cool, edgy, hip, and updated such as the concept and themes. The story, performance's, music, images, direction, action sequences, and cinematography was spectacular and phenomenal. It also identifies and analyzes the boundaries of perception and perspective between reality and fiction. It was decent. To this day I still watch it and I consider it a classic. It never gets old. 😍😎👍💯
The ending of the film was such a tease, cutting the scene moments before it toppled. But I remember Michael Caine told in a film screening that there's another way to distinguish the reality from the dream world. He asked Nolan (the producer) and told him that, if the professor (Michael Caine's character) was present in the scene, it's the reality.
Such a great film. Please check out Christopher Nolan's other films, you will enjoy it!
The craziest thing is that a huge chunk of the runtime took place within a few seconds of real time on the plane.
You understood it better than I did the first time, for sure. Took me a few different viewings to understand the whole thing. This movie is a masterpiece, so glad you enjoyed it!
Cobb’s totem is his wedding ring. Depending on whether he is dreaming or in reality he has a wedding ring on. Also (kind of a cheat): there are two sets of actors who play the kids. One set for the flashbacks and the dreams and two slightly older actors who play the kids in the final scene.
I think people treat this movie way too seriously with so many silly theories. The ending is not a dream and the wobbling top proves that. Simple Physics. I'm glad you pointed it out.
One of my fave films of all time! Watched it hundreds of times and never been bored, i feel like im always learning something new each time i watch it
I think the ending shows that, he doesn't care anymore if it's real or not. He sees the children turn around for the first time in the film, and he can spend time with them. So even if it was a dream (although it's definetly not a dream now), he doesn't care about that because he has returned to his kids.

There is a video of Michael Caine explaining the ending and how it’s for sure reality. It’s what the movie’s director and writer Christopher Nolan told him before filming. If Michael Caine’s character Professor Stephen Miles is in the scene it’s reality.

One of my favorite Mind warping movies, giving the idea that this world we are in now may well be somebodies dream. Trippy, then there is that end where his totem does not actually fall and it is left to your own imagination as to whether its a dream or reality.. Another good one for mind warping is "Lucy" 2014 or if you prefer some comedy with your mind warp, "Mr Destiny" 1990 or "Click" 2006

I have seen this movie like 8 times. 2 things that make me think it was a dream:
1. Many characters tell Cobb that he is lost for example the old man in who says "You would know all about that wouldn't you Mr. Cobb" referring to being lost. "You need to come back to reality Cobb" a line that nearly everyone utters to him at one point or another.
2. Totems, Arthur emphasizes that the Totem needs to be unique and no one must know how it works but you. He dosent even let Ariadne touch his dice. In the next sentence he says Cobb's totem is actually his wife's totem and says it dosent topple in a dream. So everyone knows and it is not even his. Thus, not a useful totem. It will topple if Cobb wants it to topple and will spin if Cobb wants it to spin, its just part of his dream. Where Cobb's totem is no one knows. I think maybe he did Inception on his wife by placing his own totem in her safe when they were in limbo together, so when they woke up there were still layers away from reality and Mol was right and did advance further back to their real kids and Cobb forgot. Or things happened exactly as they are described and Cobb spends 4 hours in a place like the one we saw dreaming that he does a crazy job and comes back to his children to spend a day with them and then gets woken up. Repeat every day.
Actually there's a theory that Cobb's wedding ring indicates if he's sleeping or not. in dreams he always has his ring on his left hand. in reality he doesn't (you can see it in the dream when Ariadne gets attacked by Mal. in dream: ring. in reality: no ring) And in the end scene at the airport you can briefly see that Cobb doesn't have the ring on his left hand, meaning that he isn't dreaming.
@@moma5349 absurd theory. Watch carefully. You don't ever get a good look at his hand in 99% of the movie. Also how would his wedding Ring work as a totem? What does it do or not do based on being in a dream? The weighted dice actually do something, the Spinning Top actually does something. What does the wedding ring do?

First I didn't say it's my theory, I just heard it somewhere, second you can have a good look on Cobbs hand a few times throughout the movie and third it's not a token rather an indicator. Or like an Easter egg that Christopher Nolan put it, I don't know!
You should watch the movie again with that theory in mind and then make a comment again.
You did a fantastic job of analyzing Inception. Bravo to you. Not a lot of people get it on the first go around. The way you figured out the plot was impressive. This is an amazing movie. It took Chris Nolan 10 solid years to write this movie. So nothing in the movie is a coincident or an accident. Everything has a purpose and everything comes together beautifully in the end. Love the movie.

For there to be a transition, he had to have been Ellen before transitioning into Elliot.
Both is ok: from a "now" point of view it's Elliot. Back then Ellen played Ariadne in this movie.
Fun Fact : Cobb's totem was never that spinning top it's his wedding ring.... He only has it on in dreams... Never wears it in reality..... When you re-watch you will see ... 👍🙂

Not true at all.
Great review. But I always believed he has always been in a dream. My main reason for this belief is the kids.They look and wear the exact same clothes in every scene they are in, even the last scene. They do not grow or change from his memories and they even seem to do the same movements.
I often wonder if these folks have really not seen this ultra famous films. Surely they’re not that sheltered

Great reaction! One of my favorites of Nolan's film. Another mind blowing film I would love to recommend to you is called: Predestination. It may take a few viewing to understand what's going on as it's a mind f#$k in the first viewing. :)
You should react on The Matrix to blow your mind even more ;) Btw, I think this all was a dream, for many reasons and one is that chemists told that people sleep under his drug for 40 hours a day; remember how times go in dreams.

Hey Miro. I will be posting a Community episode in between each movie reaction. It's not possible for me to stick to the original schedule of one per Wednesday. I did that all last year but that is because I worked 7 days a week without any days off. It was too much. I'm now working on videos 5 days per week this year so I don't burn out. Plus sometimes the movie is long.. like this Inception which was 2:40 minutes which required an additional day of editing. Rest assured I'm working working on videos from morning until night from Monday to Friday every week. :) The next Community will be soon, probably this weekend if all goes well. :)

I watched this movie the first time SUPER LATE (or early depending how you look at it) and got totally into it. With the combination of those things this movie messed me up so bad. Haha. I was like “Is anything real?” Thankfully that didn’t last too long but I don’t recommend watching this movie super late at night. 😂

You followed the literal narrative real well.. Now try thinking about it from the POV that the inception is pulled on Cobb.. The idea being his kids, which Moll implanted at the beginning and Saito reinforced after the helicopter ride..
Spending 50 years, even if it’s just from your POV without your kids doesn’t really make sense to me, so I don’t think they’re real.. This means the final scene was a dream that Cobb chose to make his reality… Walking away from the totum..
And I think all of it foreshadowed by the mysteries guy who asked Cobb earlier in the film who he thought he was to question what someone else chooses to be their reality..
