I'm a recovering carpet installer. This guy is good. I have done some tough repairs over the years and I'd much rather install a new piece rather than patch some of the gross, nasty, slimy damaged carpets that I've seen in my day.
When I accidentally murdered my wife for the insurance money, this is the guy I called. He also told me, replacing the whole carpet would raise suspicions.
I was a carpet guy for ages. Showed up to repair a 'burn hole'. The hole was the shape of a clothes iron, through the carpet, though the pad, and the plywood floor was scorched. It seems the family was going on a road trip and as they were about to reverse out the driveway Dad remembered his sunglasses. Ran back in the house, smelled smoke, and found the iron. Dad told me the last thing the three year old did before getting in the car was plugging in the iron and putting it on the floor. If Dad hadn't run in for his sunglasses the house would have burned down. I cut out the burn hole and suggested he save that burned scrap for a few years until Jr asks to borrow the car for the first time....
I'd understand with real wood, but carpet is cheap. That zapper is more expensive then most 150 sq. ft sections of carpet, but he's making money with it.
Man I thought it was some complex process but they just slap some glue on it and jam it into the floor. Basically what I do when I'm working on my costume.
Yeah, it’s not like he stitched anything. I’ve seen way better carpet repair techniques and art on RUclips. Anyone can glue anything on. Basically, buy a matching carpet and stick it in.
Lol y'all have zero experience.. consider the subfloor, pattern in the carpet, and the direction it runs. Also good luck making it look anything but terrible without straight cuts, the "zapper" is litterally melting glue. If you mess up, you'll ruin the rest of your carpet. Thickness in the padding, does the carpet need reatretchi g first?? This guy is a pro, y'all are not. Of course it looks easy.. Morons
@@X44J7 This is literally the industry standard. Why over complicate anything. If you don't glue the edges to that 4 corner patch the vacuum rotor will suck up the Berber row and unravel it like a sweater.
@@TheSonofabiscuit every stupid people ever. They watch something done easily and thought they can do it easily as well. If anyone can just glue a piece of carpet then there won't be professional carpet repairers
My late friend did this and furniture repairs. He would resew the new strends into a new backer. Melt the patch in, then trim it to length with this crazy suck-cut machine that looked like a belt sander. Was amazed how good it looked when finished. For furniture arms. He would take the whole thing apart by unstitching the fabric. Use cardboard and foam to beef up the armrest then restitched it. Sometime he would take the fabric off the back of the chair and use it to replace the old worn fabric. So cool watching him.
That's bloody awesome, just put new carpet in house, guna store the off cuts in a vacuum bag just in case. Thanks for the vid pal, never thought of that, even though I've done the same thing in drywall.
If you ever stain the carpet, use mineral spirits on the cut offs and rub into the stain.. it transfers the dye from the cutoff to the stain, covers it up. Every now and then someone bleeds on the new carpet while installing it from a cut. This is how they cover it up
For the people saying that it looks easy trust me it is not. He makes it look easy because he's good at what he does and he has been doing it for a long time. It takes awhile to get good with a carpet blade to cut straight lines. The short pyle carpet that he repaired in this video is some of the most difficult because it is very difficult to hide flaws if you make any.
Wow. That's really nice work. If l weren't in New Zealand, I'd be on the phone to you already. Carpet beetle has absolutely decimated my pure wool carpet. Gutted!

I burnt a hole in my carpet at the last apt I lived at and I did this same exact process. Unfortunately there wasn’t much info about how to do it so I went out on a whim and I guess I did it right ! I repaired it and it was hardly noticeable and the company didn’t charge me either !
I am from Spain. And it is very curious that here we do not have carpet on the floor in all the house like in eeuu or other countries. I think is very complicated to clean and requires a lot of work and effort to make it look clean and clear. Most of the time i think is looking dirty. Maybe am i wrong? Here we normally have wood laminated floor. “Tarima flotante” in spanish.
May I ask how you would fix a small hole in a stair runner? The runner has been fitted with stair rods and brackets, it has not been glued onto the stairs. How would you do that?
Not sure why YT recommended this video to me, lol....we just replaced all our carpet with vinyl plank.....my goodness it's so much nicer than nasty azz carpet. That stuff just acts as a sponge for filth, dead skin cells, pollen, mud, pet dander.......so much cleaner and happier with vinyl! Carpet seems like a bad dream now. It's like wiping your feet on a towel or soft mat...it feels good, but at least you can clean the towel or small mat...the carpet never gets cleaned thoroughly enough. I used to shampoo it regularly and stains would come back....when we removed it there was a layer of dirt underneath. Our air is now much cleaner and you can breathe better.
I like to place the Patch over the hole and do my Cut Out so they match exactly. If you do it that way, you have to be sure to pull back the Tuft so you are only cutting the Backing.
