    I remember going to this exact Saturn dealership back in like 2000 I believe for a Neuqua valley high school drivers education thing about safety of cars, and dangers of drinking and driving. I had no idea that this dealership lot still remains. That is pretty cool to see!

    I always wanted to buy an old dealership and use it as my personal shop and storage for cars.
    There was a old Volkswagen dealership near where I grew up that a guy bought and did that with for years until he sold it and it became a Dune-Edwards paint store which is still open today

    I used to work for a Subaru dealership that once had two separate buildings for sales and parts/service in different parts of town. When the local Saturn dealer closed, they bought that piece of property and turned it into their new car showroom because it was directly in front of their current parts/service center. If you look closely at the building, you can still see remnants of the old Saturn dealership, which is pretty cool.

    I worked there from 2005 until 3 or 4 months before they closed. GM announced that Saturn would close down and I remember after getting the news that the car line was done how we were all in shock. It was rumored that Penske was going to step up and make a deal to buy the line off of GM and produce the car in tandem with Nissan and Samsung. (Samsung makes cars in Asia)... it was a very sad day.

    That is so sad to see the empty dealership. I have purchased 3 Saturns in my life and still own 2. Saturn was a unique company that had a good product and made it fun to buy a car. My first Saturn was a Silver with blue interior SL2 that had a 5 speed and moonroof. The 2 I have now are a blue 2004 Ion3, and a red loaded 2007 Vue AWD. I loved the whole Saturn buying experience. Thanks for the nostalgic trip down memory lane.

    Saturn of Sioux Falls offered free car washes whenever you wanted. I owned 2 and I was treated better there than when I later brought my Mercedes and BMW. Saturn definitely took care of its customers.

    • @Lincolntowncoupe
      @Lincolntowncoupe 8 месяцев назад +2

      Sorry for the necro-reply but I gotta say, BMW and Mercedes treat their customers like shit because they know they'll keep coming back to buy a BMW or a Mercedes. That's also how they can get away with building a far less solid product than they used to. People will still shell out to get that high end logo.

    At the Saturn dealerships in CA and OR, they would wash your car every time it was brought in for any kind of service. I remember taking mine to the Eugene, OR dealer for an oil change and they gave her back to me sparkling clean. I had purchased my 1996 SC2 used from a Subaru lot in 2000, and every year until they closed down, Saturn sent me a postcard every spring wishing my car a happy birthday. I still drive that SC2 today and it’s the most reliable of my 3 vehicles. I also sought out 2 more low mileage Saturns in the last 2 years for my coming of age teen sons. My oldest has an 01 SC2 coupe and my 15 year old has an 01 SW2 (station wagon). They love their Saturns too, and I’m happy to have set them both up with cars they’ll easily get 100k miles out of to sail them through their college years.

I currently reside in Florida & I can tell you that depending on where you go you’ll find abandoned dealerships and if there’s a sign from the showroom you can pretty much guess what they were because I myself find this stuff interesting

  • @andykillsu

    I see this dealership everyday, and I am pretty sure in a year or 2 it will be torn down and new retail built. That is what happened with the medical center that was on the corner of the roads/next to the dealership. The Hyundai dealership down the road did use this as an overflow lot and stored vehicles here for a few years a few years ago, that is why it was on there.
    PS there is also another abandoned car dealership down the road, it was for the Bob Rohrman ‘Luxury’ car dealership. That one has been abandoned for even longer, it has been abandoned/not in use for at least 20 years.

    • @tsxalex8370
      @tsxalex8370 3 года назад +1

      Just looked up the Rohrman Luxury dealership and omg they never used that building. On google earth you can see that it was built sometime between 1998-2002 and the only time there appears to ever have been cars in the lot is around 2005-2006 but the aerials from those years are very blurry so who knows.... 18600 Grand Ave.

    I miss that car company. I remembered when I was at Cherry Grove in Anderson Township, Ohio when I was a little boy, there used to be a Saturn dealer, along with the used car dealer and everything else. We would've wished that GM would bring back Saturn for sure, even though those cars are one of the worst. This defunct car company always reminds me of my own childhood. Saturn cars have got to be sci-fi-mobiles, so as Mercury.

    Specifically, with Mitsubishi, Oldsmobile, and Saturn, their dealer tags, at least in my area, are near indestructible. ( I know that's not the right word to use in the sentence, but couldn't think of anything else. ) It's interesting, at least for me, to see where these dealerships were. The Mitsubishi dealer is now an appliance store, the Oldsmobile dealer has been torn down and is now a parking lot while the Saturn dealer is a BMW dealership.

    Not to get political, but this is the result of government intervention during the Obama administration. I was a Saturn employee when the Federal government got involved with GM in 2008. Instead of filing bankruptcy and restructuring, the way they should have(you know, shut down non-producing or super low producing dealerships across ALL brand names GM owned, the government decided that GM had to shut down or sell two names) A lot of people don't know this, but Saturn was one of GM'S best rated and best selling names amongst all its brands in 2008. Also, Saturn was GM but independent dealers, so when Pontiac shut down, nothing really happened to its employees as they were Chevy, GMC, Buick, Pontiac and Cadillac dealers, so they just changed a sign. Saturn however, none of those employees kept their jobs. But GM decided that route because Saturn and Pontiac were the smallest overall in size.

    It doesn't look so bad. Clearly it's been mowed plenty of times and the structure must have been pressured washed a couple of times during those 11 years. I've seen concrete getting covered with all types of wild grasses and small trees to the point it looks like there's only soil below, and paint fading or full of mold, mildew and black fungus in less than 3 years. The building would already have lots of vines and climbing plants if it was untouched. It looks almost ready for another brand to take it over with a minor investment and repairs. It's sad to see how GM let their cars die. I especially miss Pontiac. My family still has a Grand Prix and a Vibe (rebadged Toyota Matrix) going since 2000 and 2003 respectively.

    So i want
    To know why the truck is in there. Did the dealer keep someone’s car and never give it back? Lol

      Used to work at a dealership across the street from there. The building is still owned by Bob Rohrman but it’s used as storage. Got to go in there a few times.

      It’s not. You can see it’s pretty rusty. That truck was probably 10 - 15 years old when this dealer closed

      I can tell that definitely isn’t the case. It’s one of our plow trucks for the Hyundai and vw dealerships across the street. The building is still used as storage.

    Saturn was such a cool and unique brand that was destroyed by terrible GM decisions.

    Saturn was shut down as part of the agreement for the government bailout of GM back when the economy crashed in 2008, along with GM agreeing to shut down Pontiac, Hummer, Saab, and Oldsmobile. The video was hard to watch because you constantly shook the camera and the fast panning back and forth.
