    I think what's cool about the AF in the s5ii is it comes with a lot of ability to manipulate it. You can set a focus limiter, you can adjust the sensitivity as well as speed, you can resize zones, etc. Plus they came and gave you the manual focusing goodies users asked for - monochrome live view mode/punch in focus assist while filming. It's also got the gh6 focus transition tool to let you set up a focus pull and hit a button and it does it smoothly for you.
    What stands out to me here is these are all control points that can be exploited - and I always always prefer when engineers give the user more control over their product. It just allows you to work more creatively with your tool to figure out ways of doing things that maybe weren't even obvious at first. It's cool when an engineer says, "I have no idea why someone would want -4 speed and -4 sensitivity AF but hey let's just allow it and see what people come up with"

    I’m considering the S5 ii or FX3 as a b-cam to the Komodo. I’m just irked they didn’t release the S5 iix… won’t come for another half year ?? How ridiculous, I don’t want to shoot in only Long GOP - should’ve just made one camera or released both at launch

    It was great to listen to you guys discussing the S5II. Your dive into the Panasonic lens system was particularly helpful. Great to hear that you rate the FF f1.8 primes.
    I bought a G9 to dip my toe into the LUMIX world after hearing and reading lots of users expressing their deep love for their Lumix cameras.
    I am extremely excited about the ability to adapt FF and APSC EF lenses to the S5II with PDAF in video CAF. I hope the same will apply to future M43 PDAF cameras with speed boosters and adapters with drop in or built in ND filters!
    The only disappointing thing is that the LUMIX FF lenses can’t be adapted to M43. But such is the physics of mirrorless flange distance design.
    Great work guys!

    Awesome discussion guys. Always a treat when you two get together.
    S5ii is a really interesting camera, I’m pretty invested in Sony and Canon so I really don’t want another system however if I was starting from scratch this would be very interesting.
    I’m excited to see what they do with the bigger brothers to this camera, something to rival the FX3 would be great to see.
    As you mentioned a box version of this camera with ND would be incredible.

    So, in the Uk LUMIX are selling the S5ii with the 50mm 1.8 & the 20-60 kit lens. Currently with a £300 bonus trade in. The kit was £2090 all in. This camera has to be the best deal out there for someone wanting a hybrid camera that’s starting from fresh. Canon Sony and to large degree Nikon all make a great camera it really is hard to pick up a bad camera. I think the nuance is in the price / features trade off. The S5ii currently best bang for buck. The Sony A74 is a great option but with a kit lens you’ll need to drop around 3k you’re currently getting two lenses with the lumix and there are enough choices of budget lenses to make it work. Sony still king of lens choice if you don’t want to adapt.

    Sean Robinson of Panasonic set us straight today in Lumix Live, on the shutter closed vs shutter open during a lens change. BOTH the shutter and the sensor are equally sturdy or susceptible to damage, but the shutter is more likely to be damaged if something pokes it. I guess.you can clean a fingerprint off the sensor, but not "unbend" the blades,

    • @jockturner1547
      @jockturner1547 Год назад +1

      Interesting. Still would argue that both is a risk to damage every time you change your lens but one is far more obvious more often. I feel like I’d be willing to risk shutter damage in order to never have dust on my sensor

    The long term loan thing at the very least probably gets around the massive tax burden that free equipment given in exchange for a video creates normally. That said, I'd be a bit concerned about liability with the loaner gear. If you've got a contract I hope there is a clause in there to protect you guys in the case of accidents and such.
    While the big camera companies don't contact me at my current viewership, I do get lighting equipment and other no-cost gear sent in that I keep, but have to limit it because of that MSRP as taxable income burden. 😥
    I'm also messing around with ChatGPT. Impressive stuff! That's cool to know it does well with music related requests. Same for that visualization from a tongue sensor thing, wow!

    • @GHPod
      @GHPod  Год назад +1

    You guys are always forgetting about the R5C. That is the best hybrid camera currently. You have much better dynamic range even with clog3 than any Canon photo camera with oversampling over the board in video mode, and 8k 50fps if you want it! You don't have ibis so no wobble - works very very well with canon ibis lenses, much more natural than any ibis camera. And you have a full R5 photo. The only problem is battery life, that is easy to overcome. I don't know why everyone is sleeping on it

    • @GHPod
      @GHPod  Год назад +1

      I think we mentioned it towards the end. It’s a killer camera for sure! Do you own one?

    • @volkom91

      @@GHPod yes our company uses R5C, R3 and R5 with a set of RF lenses, works great for us because we can pick and choose the best combination for every photo and video project, big or small. Obviously these products are very expensive, a bit overpriced in my opinion, but they make money for us. For myself I would probably but a Lumix S5 II or a Fuji X-H2S, amazing value cameras and systems.

    Well, I know one more VERY IMPORTANT FEATURE no one is talking about... Lumix S5II and S5IIX don't have new Phase Detect AF in 1080p full frame 50,60,100 and 120 FPS but only old Contrast AF which is the biggest disappointment... So for some reason people who prefer to shoot 1080p FF in slow-mo from 50 to 120 fps they should do that with old glitchy Contrast base AF. Same for all of those who were hoping to upscale 1080p 50-120 fps to 4k - no PDAF. And taking into account it's a video-oriented hybrid camera, it looks like without a firmware update in the next several months almost perfect camera becomes garbage. I preordered S5IIX and now looking forward to the firmware update. Hope they will fix it by the time S5IIX ships. If not - will just move to another brand. I believe this is a very important factor people should know about.

      I have a 5DIII and that camera is more than I’ll ever need for stills. LUMIX on the other hand offers great options for video, especially if I can use EF lenses with video CAF. I have a G9 but am tempted by the S5II but as I have a G9 will probably wait to see if there is
      a G10 or GX10 and both use native MFT glass and adapted EF. I think Canon is great but I also think LUMIX might be better for my needs.
