"It's Godzilla, he'll save us!" Is something I never thought possible in any godzilla media. If it was Gamera I'd believe it
Tbh it probably would have been better if it was a gamera series
It's like that scene from Terror of Mechagodzilla where two kids scream for Godzilla to help them,and then they get crushed by Titanosaurus

Hero Godzilla was the thing back then even in the late Toho films
Cartoon Godzilla "roar"ed because Toho wasnt giving up their signature Godzilla scream for anything. Even the American Godzilla movies of the 90's and 2010's werent allowed to have it.
Then... why did they have it?
@@filthycasual8187 Thats not the original scream in the 90's and 2010 Godzilla movies. Its a loose copy of it but not the original.
Although Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) managed to give MV Godzilla the Toho roars.
Then why does 99's GTS have it?
@@dartisboiI can’t find any information of it, but after KOTM Godzilla hasn’t used a single Toho roar, which I mean is a true shame, would have loved to hear a hesiei roar from Evolved Godzilla, and is it coming back any sooner?

Godzooky is more badass than Little Godzilla actually. Fought Axor after stealing his power source, was willing to lay down his life acting as a distraction after hiding Brock.

That allosaurus from the Time Dragons episode is likely a nod to Gorosaurus, they even look pretty similar
They do look similar as did the firebird and Rodan

I always thought that the Earth Eater was a reference to Baragon since they both can burrow and walk on all fours
There is also monster in season 2, called the Power Dragon, that is basically a one headed Ghidorah. A long necked dragon with horns on its head, wings where the arms should be, and can shoot lighting from its mouth.
One, the allosaurus from Time Dragons is actually a tyrannosaurus according to wikizilla and gojipedia and two, it can’t be a reference to Gorgosaurus from Walking with Dinosaurs because WWD the movie was released in 2013 while the HB Godzilla was made 1978.

Man, if this got a new DVD or Blu-ray set release I would totally buy it. It's so charming.
I got volume 1 never could get the other two volumes with out selling a arm and a leg.

I was fortunate enough to grab all three season 1 volumes when they were first released… but they never released any of season 2 so it still sucks ☹️

Thing is like these Hanna-Barbera cartoons hardly get released on DVD and when they do it's kind of undermining unless you're Scooby-Doo I remember I got my copy on clash of the super Friends volume 2 I loved it right away because I grew up watching super friendship so I grew up watching this I'm sure you can find it it's going to be a little tricky.

I remember watching the show as a kid and I still feel nostalgic for this show.
Toho has ALWAYS been super super protective of the official Godzilla Roar sound and the main movie theme song.
They did allow it for the 1998 movie. The U.S. studio just added a little to it. I have the actual WAV file somewhere.
I honestly love this series,my favorite episode is The Eartheater
Godzilla’s roar was also a copyright,they only had rights to the character. Ngl the roar used sounds menacing and monstrous already

Personal favorites for me are the episodes with Axor, and where Godzilla fights COBRA
1. Toho wanted royalties to use the Godzilla roar and HB could not afford it.
2. Godzooky is Godzilla's younger cousin. The source comes from the Sci fi Japan article on the show, which they said is based off promotional flyers for the show. They also explained that Godzooky was stuck under a reef and the calico crew rescued Godzooky. As thanks, Godzilla decides to protect the crew from that time forward. It would have been a fun episode if they had made it.
3. Laser eyes are easy to animate. Hanna Barbara used lasers alot in cartoons.

@ WhaTDiLLioN It's a common and understandable misconception since the sources are pretty obscure. Either you go and read it from the old sci fi Japan article that covered the show and dvds, or read it off the back of the out of print volume one classic media DVD. It's a very obscure fact.

What’s this “Godzilla Singular Point?” I only know of *HANNA BARBERA GODZILLA*
A new "godzilla" anime on Netflix. But don't be fooled, that show is 1% Godzilla 4% other Kaijus (mostly flocks of Rodans) and 95% two eggheads talking about time bending, alternate dimensions/timelines and wormholes.

I remember watching this as a kid, the 98 Godzilla movie and animated series was what got me into the Godzilla movie line
Meanwhile: the soundtrack for this show was reasonably great when it wasn't being goofy, especially when the iconic main theme was being used.
You can watch both seasons of the HB Godzilla cartoon by google searching ‘Where to watch Godzilla Power Hour’ which is the show’s alternate name. The entire series is available for watch on Internet Archive.
Pretty fun stuff. I actually just started drawing up all the HB Godzilla monsters lol. What timing. The 2nd season is pretty lackluster though. Giant flies and fish. Big octopus and squids. And a metal whale. Not as cool as some of the monsters from the first season.
I agree for the most part with one exception. The Beast of Storm Island is pretty awesome, they even give the monster a name! (Axor)
@@brandonandcharlene9527 Axor was the single good original kaiju this show had to offer, the rest were either loose Toho kaiju stand-ins or just plain lame.
Oh my goodness, I watched this show IN the 70s! I mean, keep in mind I was born in '74 so I was I kid who had discovered the Big G through (you guessed it: Godzilla vs. Megalon, as well as a few Big G, flicks). I used to LOVE this show (did I mention I was a kid?)! Thanks for doing this, brought back a TON of memories (especially about Godzooky)!

The Magnetic Terror was the only monster in this series that died a painful horrible serious death
Swelling up like a balloon and exploding with chunks of it flying everywhere I'm surprised the censors let that go.
I wonder if they did let it go. That's the only episode of this show I didn't see on air as a kid, never ran into it till years later. If it was actually shown on TV it didn't appear in my area (Northeast US) during the original run.

There was an episode of
" Thundarr the Barbarian" where a wizard's head actually exploded with brain matter flying out.
They had to re-edit that episode so Ariel would say

Oh man! This was such a blast from the past. I caught a few episodes of HB Godzilla, back when CN was mostly airing HB productions alongside Dexters Laboratory etc. I absolutely loved it then and I still do. I wouldn't mind a reboot in competent hands. I think there's enough there to build upon further. Thanks for doing this man!
This is the show as a kid that made me a fan.
Watching this as an adult makes a lot more things make sense.

@@sprite4481 They're well worth the effort, although as I recall the collected tome is in b/w rather than color. The coloring was up to the standard of Herb Trimpe's art, though!

That was almost the perfect Godzilla cartoon, but it suffered from the sole flaw of being a continuation of Godzilla 1998 and using that as Godzilla. Still was fantastic and made me respect Zilla more.

Great video man! I feel this series would have been a bit better if they simply had Gojis trademark roar. However I don't think it's that bad of a show. Lol I can't believe how much that volume 3 dvd is going for, I picked it up for 10 bucks back in like 2009.
Thanks. This might be nostalgic talking, but i also like this show. I like some episodes more then others but its overall not bad if you can accept some of the faults it has. also nice pickup with volume 3 lucky you got it when you did.

I grew up watching this during the '90s but then and cartoon Network was just starting to be established and they were and Turner cable was bringing all kinds of old school cartoons like Tom and Jerry,The Jetsons and The Flintstones Good times I feel like this cartoon is so forgotten now.

oh man i remember watching this as a little kid even knew the theme song by heart. it maybe old but i still like it. can't wait for part two.
I just love this show as a child. In my country, it was available in mid 90's.
Loved this series. Around this time I remember watching a Flash Gordon cartoon and the Schmoo cartoon. A cool time; this cartoon, Godzilla in comics, his movies in rerun each weekend and his jumbo missle-fist toy in stores. Though with a black & white TV comics and ads of this show left me for decades assuming his live action self was just a green.

Brock and Pete's last names were never mentioned in the series. Also, the series never did an original episode in which how the crew first met, or how they first encounter Godzooky and Godzilla. Also, I think this is the second animated series to feature an African American in every episode. The first one would be Valerie from Josie And The Pussycats.
Val is Best Pussycat. Brock definitely isn't second, though. The Fat Albert Show came out in 1972, and Astrea in 1977's Space Sentinels. By 1978 we also had Superstrech & Microwoman - although you could rightly argue that their segment didn't appear in every episode of the Tarzan & the Super 7 show, which is a shame. I quite liked those two, even if DC Comics didn't. Black Vulcan showed up Superfriends around then too IIRC, leading to one of the best bits of the Harvey Birdman show many decades later.

Thank you for this. I always wanted someone to talk about it to this extent. In spite of its flaws, as a little girl, I liked watching it. Keeping the human characters to that limited crew actually helped it. The series just got worse.
The plant monster predated Biollante. What a twist!
Maybe it was the *Atlanteans* that imprisoned the lobster-clawed Cyclops. Her previous experience with their technology might explain how Quinn was able to figure out the force field generator, and how they wound up on the island the very next episode - and why the Atlanteans even *have* a giant robot to defend them! 🙂

Some of the enemy daikaiju concepts from this series were pretty cool.

I do have some nostalgia for the show but would much rather watch you give summaries of the episodes then watch them proper. Good luck on your path through the rest of them. (I think I have yet to see the last bunch so especially looking forward to hearing about those)

The avgn part gets me every time

Honestly a lot of these episodes feel the same
The humans are discovering something or travelling
Bad monster/monsters appears
Godzooky appears and trys to attack the monster/monsters and fails
Godzilla pops up and fights the monster/monsters
Godzilla or the monster/monsters run away
The humans investigate what's going on
The monster/monsters does more bad things
Godzilla fights the monster/monsters for the final time
Godzilla defeats the monster/monsters with the help of Godzooky sometimes
It's like with the showa gamera series where all the show gamera movies had such a similar approach. The monster/monsters don't even look good in this show as well which makes it worse
That was HB in a nutshell; their cheap, formulaic, soulless, conveyor-belt design philosophy to cartoons damn near got the entire western animation industry killed.
I wish all 26 episodes of this Hannah Barbera Godzilla was released on a complete 3 Disc DVD Set. Okay, to be honest, my favorite episode from the 1st season is “The Time Dragons”. 30:16 There’s the good reason I like this episode. A Dinosaur that appears to be a Tyrannosaurus Rex. Plus, this is & was the 1st of the creatures in this Hannah Barbera version of Godzilla that has the sound effects of real animals. I believe it was the sound of an Elephant that gave this creature to Roar.
Godzooky is the greatest kaiju of all time... 😆

Attack of the stone creature is the one I remember most, the scene where they show the face of the guy with frostbite stuck with me.

As a boy after watching this cartoon and Godzilla vs. Megalon, I thought Godzilla was always "the good guy". I would always hear a reference to Godzilla destroying Tokyo and think "why would Godzilla destroy Tokyo?".

The fire bird came out of a volcano. Rodan came out of a volcano in KOTM. And the 1998 movie borrowed the bridge scene from this series. I wonder if this was all on purpose?
Knowing Hanna Barbera, I'm pretty sure they made up the laser eyes so they could save money not having to draw all the fire effects.

Jabberjaw also a Hanna Barbera cartoon had cds and dvds for future media. It is possible that there was a kind of shared universe so a lot of tech was similar although the Jetsons didn't seem to have playable disks just a lot of floppy disks which were in a lot of Sci fi at the time.
To me the episode with the yeti reminds me of the marvel comics when Godzilla went to Las Vegas and in the forest fight a Sasquatch that was just roaming around or what the heck I don’t know

I can't help but see a kind of simularaty between "The Seaweed Monster" and an other show from the 70s that involved a small grouping of "Sea Monsters" also made for childrens Saturday morning.

I've been a biiig Godzilla fan for years and I was wondering when he was going to be a cartoon character and It was a great show with new monsters was still great and Ted did a great job of doing his voice
