He actually flipped the name of “Dr Jekyll and Mr Hide” to I’m “Dr Hide and Mr. Jekyll” because his split personality is having an identity crisis, and Dr Jekyll and Mr hide is a story about a guy with split personalities. It’s an insanely clever bar that I don’t think anyone has caught yet.

I gotta say I've never considered Slim Shady shock value. To me, he has always been humorous. Like a rapper comedian of sorts. Listening to SSLP for the first time back in 99, there were more chuckle moments than did he really say that moments.

  • @evil4d

Really don't understand your comments about the Slim Shady Lp and him not rapping, he was rapping rings around anyone else of the time, and he has always had shock value raps. The only thing he wasn't too adverse with back then were the metaphors and double entendre's, but they are not the be all and end all of "Rap rapping", that's rhymes and flows, and he always had that.

If you listened to hip hop in the 90’s you had to be different or people would call u tf out and say you are biting off someone else style. So he gives you something different like he has always said it’s always a lose lose no matter what he does if he zigs he should have zagged. I’m not calling you out Stevie so no disrespect i just grew up in a different time and think he gives us bars even if it’s that shock value shit. That bar was dope about the Packers beating the Patriots in Super bowl 31 he said “Blitzin like Green Bay did when they shitted on New England” That when Reggie White set a Super Bowl record with three sacks. He mentions Bette Midler in this song. He uses a sample from a Bette Midler song for "Arose"

I don’t think Stevie realizes that Eminem was dropping real heavy bars even when he was in that old Shady mode between 1998 to 2000, lol. What Em was doing on MTBMB, Kamikaze, and even MMLP2 is what he was doing back then, but with much more complex rhyme-schemes.

Dog you should know, even on the Slim Shady LP, deep down his crazy lyrics, he was speaking about his own life and shit, it had some deep ass bars hidden on that album.

You really should do a reaction too the slim shady lp songs because i have no idea why you keep trashing that album. It was dark and raw with some class story telling

"Busa Rhyme" - Missy Elliott ft. Eminem. Missy has a couple of bars, but it's pretty much an Eminem song on a Timbaland beat. I *think* that it was recorded before Eminem released the SSLP. Here's a link to the uncensored version:

When people hear this OG Eminem stuff they forget he’s fresh off his underground battle rap days at that point. It’s less deep, fewer doubles/triples, more shock value, more funny. Cuz that’s what won you a rap battle. He flexed with the doubles and triples a couple albums later. This is SSLP days. Classics
