Even Stans dont realize how important this song was at that time in his career. He was just coming off a widely criticized album (Revival) and then released a remix to his own song, which caught a lot of people off guard. Lots of reactors were asking at the time this song was released, "why wasnt this song on that album?!?". After this song, he released Kamikaze and then MTBMB, which all played off his anger from this one song. So thank you to all the haters because pissed off Em is the best.
Lemme get my 🤓 on . This was more than 3 years BEFORE Revival, first track on Marshall Mathers LP 2. That’s why it’s a reference to Stan from the first MMLP. Its hard to hear bc the volume lowers but the last line is “as we pick up where the last Mathers left off” with the next track being an extended version of the bank robbery skit that happened during Criminal the final song from MMLP and why he mentions trying to recapture the magic of the original album. But it is important because it’s the first album where he really addressed how he’s aging in the game and it’s kind of passing him by and all the shit he said is coming back to bite him as he tries to cope with not wanting to be an old man rapping about these awful things and just be a father. Album is packed with stories of Eminem just trying to be Marshall again but he can’t. Kind of amazing the way this song goes that 10 years later he’s bringing Shady back to prove the same point. But if you listen to this album and then Revival you realize that this album being well received (it is a good album) kind of doomed Revival bc it made him think classic samples and choppy speedy flows was gonna be his lane for the future, a big miscalculation.

@Steven Martinez he sounded way to political and preachy on revival, also didn't like his start and stop flow over rock n roll beats. His newest albums I like because he sounds more joking on it and I enjoy the nice rap beats rather than the weird rock beats on revival.

Revival has some of Em's best songs on it. "Believe" is insane and inspirational, "Castle" and "Arose" is some of the best storytelling he's ever done, and overall it's a great album that just has some jarring beats some people won't like and popular features that people shat on before the album even dropped.
The problem is people often associate rap with 'hard' & 'gangster', so when a song like 'Walk on Water' comes out people hate it. Eminem spilled his heart out in that song, they hated it, hated Beyonce. Song is art, not 'rap' necessarily. I always liked Revival, Kamikaze is over-rated imo. Only 5 / 11 good songs on it.
I think years from now the album will be regarded higher than it is now. It will age very well.

It has nothing to do with the song being gangster or hard i myself hate the Revival album but i love walk on water,Castle and Arose all the other songs on Revival i thought the beats were trash some corny lines that ruined some songs for me overall didn't like the album at all except for Walk on Water,Castle and arose which i still love.
This album has terrible prod, terrible features, and a lot of choppy ass flows that suck

This song still gets me hyped even after hearing it all the time. The flow-switches, the pure, raw anger wants you to just go out and run, or do something crazy. I like the original Chloraseptic, but the fury in this one makes it just so much more fascinating.
Especially after hearing people trash Revival for the past 2 or 3 months. I was annoyed, then this dropped and it was like fuckin Christmas lol
@@joshuaha7661 I wasn't aware of the trashing - I actually just stumbled into being a dedicated fan (from before being an occasional listener ) in 2020 (I did catch up quite a lot 😁 ) but it's very clear how much that bothered and even hurt him. And maybe I wouldn't rank Revival as his best, I really like it and ESPECIALLY Walk on Water. I mean, trashing that alone should be considered a felony!

I don't get it either, it's not my favorite album but it is decent. Walk on water, Believe and a couple others are really good. But Walk on Water, I couldn't believe it got all that hate, that song is pure lyricism. So when the Chloraseptic remix came out a couple months later, I was super hyped lol

"Zombie track" - theres a 3 minute song called "in my head'" on revival where he samples an old 90's classic tune "zombie" by the Cranberries. Not many will appreciate it. Luckily for me I was in a xm radio 90's and 00 hits station phase before getting into it so I got an appreciation for it. Dope track imo where he rhymes in the second verse to it like he does "legacy" off the MMLP2 where hes aiming at rhyming a whole sound cluster all verse long

It may not have the acrobatic lyrics but staying with the same flow throughout the entire song is just amazing and something that you dont hear anyone do. Plus what he was talking about just hits so much harder when you know what he was going through.
