    Nielsen was the premier singer of Isolde from my childhood to some years ago when I discovered Waltraut Meier. When I heard Meier for the first time as Isolde she moved me like no other Wagnerian singer had..!!! Meier sang her last role as Isolde in 2015 and listeing to Stemme here has moved me to believe that I have found a new star in the Wagnerian firmament...!!! She is amazing...!!!

She was born to sing this role. Simply unbelievable performance. And I would know. I myself am an aspiring opera singer, so I know when something truly is amazing. this is by far, the best version of Mild und Leise of the current sopranos, not to mention that she's the leading soprano on wagner roles these days,specially here, as Isolde, even in a concert, Nina is absolutely able to show us the true feelings that Isolde is passing throught in that moment of grief. Everytime I watch this video, I'm taken away by her huge and strong voice. Her tecnique is flawless and her voice echoes on every single corner of the room. Nina is a wonderful soprano. Brava!

  • @CosmosNut

    I feel at this level anyone saying someone else is better is pure snobbery, this is artistry at it's finest. The orchestral performances may be different but the artist commands it with their emotion, timing, presence, tone, ... many have done this piece justice, maybe differently but not better? Appreciating the nuances is part of mature appreciation.

      @dezziliodevellini9533 2 года назад +2

      I must respond to your notion of "pure snobbery". Operatic deliverances/performances and the art of musical interpretation are both opionated and controversial. It becomes synonymous to the interpretations of a complex piece of literature or a literary work that leaves room for what you see and hear from those who are in disagreement with you. However, all in all, Miss STEMME offered an extremely TOUCHING performance of an aria that is NOT easy to excute. I actually like her!

    This is my favourite aria, I'm not from the united states, I'm not a nazi at all, much on the contrary and the ignorance of people astounds me. I have heard most of the best recordings and live performances of this aria available and I think this is one of the best renditions I've ever heard. Those of you who said the orchestra is too big, or that her voice is not strong enough don't seem to have heard the greatest recordings, or even enough renditions. There are some moments where the notes are witten in such a way that the orchestra always covers some notes, because it goes in a crescendo while the voice is singing low notes. Her singing is flawless and her tone is very beautiful. Go get some instruction and hear her again.

      I can't but fully agree with what you said. And I would like to add that, on stage, at the Wiener Staatsoper last year, she also showed she can be a fantastic actress. I cried as a baby as she was singing this aria while she seemed to be drawn by an irresistible whirlpool of disarray and sadness. Hopefully I will cry again next January at the Zurich opera.
