Wow. It should be obvious, that more tracks sound more, but the difference with changing the main melody from shorter to longer notes literally blew me away. You hit the point with that! Thank you.

great tips as usual. I would like to add something extra as someone who does write trailer music for big trailer labels:
    - Writing Epic Trailer music for TV differs in my opinion a lot compared to High End Trailer Music for the big screen. If you want to learn how to sound like the high end stuff, you have to listen to current trailers and figure out what kind of chords, hooks the music is built on, transcibe and find out how you can do something similar. The Chords you choose is so important, as some chord progressions just sounds so outdated and not that interesting

God damn. It's sooo damn simple. I was actually overcomplicating all my shit and turns out to be sounding messy in the end. Harder to comprehend, harder to mix and translate to the listener.
    Thanks for this man

Great video as always. I think there are so many things a beginner might overlook in this video. Almost all video tutorials don't really point this out. I struggled with all these as well when I started about 6yrs ago.
First is octaves. There are seven octaves on the keyboard. It can be hard to tell where each element or instrument fits, a trombone chord at oct 2 may sound like a horn at oct 3. In a standard simple piano arrangement the elements of your tracks are distributed to certain octaves. it easy to overlook these things, if you don't know these simple rules you end up having elements all over the place. Knowing this you can break the rules to get a clear mix like in this tutorial.
Notice how the trombones (oct1/2) are playing the chords about two octaves below the pads (oct3/4), although I would have played it an octave higher. A piano playing that low will sound muddy and dark.
Using a standard piano arrangement helps simplify everything in terms of arrangement and frequency.
Oct 3 for instance is still low frequency (below 500hz) but it's clear enough to have the chords between oct 2/3. Oct 1 is bass (below 200hz). Oct 4 is mid range (800hz and above) that is why vocals, main ostinatos fits in that range clearly.
For those using a different DAW you may want to experiment on your piano roll. For instance in FL studio, Oct 6 is mid range (800hz and up) which is Oct 4 in most DAW and Oct 3 in others.
It may be a little bit crazy, but I believe understanding this basic things can help with creating more complicated tracks.

hey Alex, awesome tips here. You opened my mind with the Nexus synth instrument. What i'm realizing now is that the synth bed is what gives that sense of fullness to the trailer track. Lots of rhythmic synths too. Sometimes are very subtle, in fact i'm going crazy in analyzing some really big tracks made by Audiomachine or Really slow motion. Can you confirm?

    • @AlexPfeffer
      @AlexPfeffer  2 года назад

Hey Mario, yes, very often it is the subtle instruments in the background creating that lush and thick arrangement.

    • @AlexPfeffer

So I actually got 128GB but tbh I am just having 12-13 tracks here that probably not use more than 4-5 GB, if not less. With today's libs you should at least have something around 16-32GB.

@@AlexPfeffer thank you for answering. This is important to me. Do you usually make batch re-save or something with libraries in kontakt or you use them without any manipulations ? Excuse my silly questions. I used to be a flight attendant and now I’m willing to be a composer 😄

    • @AlexPfeffer

@@Perfect_sound Thanks! :) Regarding batch resave it totally depends if they have been changed or updated. If they load fast, I don't care, if the are slow I try to batch resave.
