There is a big myth about apple cider vinegar, and it has to do with the "mother." Let’s talk about it.
The mother in apple cider vinegar is a combination of two things: friendly bacteria and enzymes. You can’t actually see bacteria or enzymes. This means you can’t see the true mother in apple cider vinegar.
What you see at the bottom of a bottle of apple cider vinegar is the leftovers of the fermentation process. It’s just unfiltered particles from the apples or maybe fiber-there’s not necessarily enzymes or probiotics in it.
When apple cider vinegar is pasteurized, the heat kills bacteria and enzymes. High pressure can also kill bacteria and enzymes.
Fairchild’s is the only brand of apple cider vinegar that produces and sells their product. They produce a high-quality organic raw apple cider vinegar product. It’s also undiluted and much stronger than Bragg Apple Cider Vinegar, which is diluted with water.
I don’t get anything from promoting their product, but when I find a really good product like this one, I like to share it with others.

@@yourgooglemeister6745 Absolutely. It became clear to me that Thomas DeLiar doesn't practice what he preaches. He is a steroid infused he-man who pretends that he got his physique from being on keto. Anyone can tell that he is not natural. Also, his narrative changes constantly. He releases so many videos that suggest you change everything every few days. His channel preys on people's anxieties about their health - making you think you need to obsess about everything and that his way is the only way and that you need to react to each new "development" he concocts for his viewers. Andrew Huberman would’ve made this a two hour video with one hour of it being commercials and live reads
Dr. Berg, I want to tell you about something that happened to me yesterday. Background first. It is 11-8-2023. I am 79 years old and have suffered with Glaucoma and now beginning stages of Macular Degeneration. A few days ago I watched your video on Vitamin A. Knowing most doctors don’t talk of vitamins, my two Opthalmalogists in particular, I was intrigued with what you said. I am taking a boatload of your recommendations, so I figured I would add Vitamin A to the list. So, I ordered a low dosage. I took one pill. ONE. The next day, yesterday, my daughter drove me to Emory Hospital for my current check up with one Opthalmalogist. While sitting in the waiting room, I looked over at my daughter and said that I could SEE and READ the tv screen in the room !!! Then, the technician came for us. He asked me to read what I could see on their wall screen, and got more and more excited as I saw smaller and smaller letters. Bottom line…..I was reading 20/20. I have been ( as I like to tell it ) blind as a bat since I was 8 years of age ! The Macular Degeneration and Glaucoma damage is still there, but I could SEE ! I was thrilled to have my daughter as well as the technician WITNESS this for themselves. My daughter asked if she could take a screenshot photo of the info on his computer of some of the PAST information about my problems with occasional double vision, and he said Yes. NOW, next week she will take me to my OTHER Opthalmologist appointment, wondering if these results will still “ hold “. As far as damage, what is done is done, but maybe…..maybe this might help slow…..or even stop the progression of either of the diseases……..and maybe my vision will stay steady at my lovely beautiful fantastic 20/20 from yesterday ! I am giving Jesus number one credit and giving you, Dr. Berg number two credit. Sooooo, last night guess what I did ! I took my SECOND Vitamin A pill ! Hallelujah ! ( Sorry, HAD to tell you, even if it butted into your report about Bragg’s vinegar. ). Again, today is 11-8-2023. ❤️
Praise God !!! what a wonderful testimony !!!
@@dutchess314 I am still floating on clouds from what happened yesterday ! After getting home, I ordered my daughter two bottles of this same Vitamin A……for her family to start taking .👍
Wow, this is fantastic - would love to add this to our success stories so others can benefit - is this possible? If you could send us an email at drberg@drberg.com. that would be great - Dr B
One pill did NOT change your vision. You do realize you get vitamin A from foods too. It's not a miracle pill.

I heard about this too. The whole Katy Perry story. Figures 🤨
Wow! You did NOT offend me..but I did believe the sludge at the bottom of my Bragg ACV WAS the “Mother”…as always you’re bringing us information we can all benefit from. Thank you Dr. Berg!
Lol 😅
The "mother" actually looks like an off white very large(golf ball size) Amoeba is the best way I can describe it.
That being said that white sediment in the bottom of the ACV if it has not been pasteurized will contain active bacteria
If that bacteria is living you can put a teaspoon of it into a gallon of pure undiluted apple juice( no it does not have to be fermented) and leave it in a cool DARK place for about six weeks and it will become vinegar. If you are extremely lucky it will develop a mother. If it does just decant the vinegar and leave the mother. Then add fresh apple juice to the mother to keep it going. You can split a mother in two to share with someone.
My grandmother and several of my aunts kept mothers. I saw them do this hundreds of times.
I make my own ACV and I just started a batch of Pear Cider Vinegar. That way I know what’s in it, truly organic and made with filtered water.
"ACV", so that's what your calling it now. In my day we just called it moonshine
@@Herbie11 Nah. If a person tries to make hard cider and it goes bad, it's vinegar. If they try to make vinegar and it goes bad, it's alcohol. Weird how that works.
Dr Berg, I work in the wine industry and just wanted to drop a note. We do not pasteurize our wine here. None of the wineries around us do. We also try to minimize the use of sulphur and tartaric acid, with some wineries here refusing to use any additions of anything at all to their wine.
I make my OWN apple cider vinegar from our local apple orchard. From raw unpasteurized cider. I even press apples and make vinegar as well... all organic, no chemicals. Cheers!
Would it be the same as making beer? To make acv? I want to make it at home as well

I tried it and i dont feel it does much changes to my body and health but on days when i ate too much gassy and oily food drinking a cup of lukewarm dilute apple cider vinegar does help to made the body feel better and normalised again quicker. It also work well for freshening the breathe too.
@Anglo-Saxonco How do you dilute it? 50-50?
One spoonful of apple cider vinegar to a mug of lukewarm water.
Don't use metal spoon and cup and don't use boiling water.
Yes, thanks so much, Dr Berg. Switching to Fairchilds. Appreciate all your videos, easy to understand and unbiased information.
Thank you so much for this information. I was confused when I bought my last batch of ACV supposedly Braggs ......I had noticed that it didn't appear to look like my last batch. Then found out that the company had now changed hands and changed it. I was mortified and angry.
However, I'm so pleased that I may be able to get something similar to the original ACV, fingers crossed.
Thank you, Dr. Berg. I am definitely switching vinegar brands. Thank you for everything you do for our health.
I switched to Fairchild’s after watching a video where you mentioned it! I noticed that the color and potency had changed in the Braggs and decided to give the Fairchild’s a try. I love it and thank you so much for all your help!❤️
Yup, I just went to the grocery store today and picked up a bottle of Braggs, and I was like, why is it so light in color. I mean, it's very light to be an apple cider. I put it back.
Thank you Dr Berg, I noticed changes in Braggs products consistancy when I was working at a supermarket. The color of their product was different in many bottles on the shelf. I will look for this Fairchild's brand.
Great information, I just ordered this brand on Amazon. Thank you so much for your hard work.
Wow. We are all so misinformed!!!! I wasn't sure what the mother was!! Thank you for educating us!
That seems to happen alot on the internet.
This is very interesting! I've been buying Bragg's but this past summer for the first time I made my own ACV and this disc formed at the bottom, just like in Kombucha making. Found out from Mary's Nest yt channel that this disc is the actual mother (which is never in the bottled stuff).
Actually, on the bottom of my Bragg vinegar was a disc. It was slimy and disgusting. I had to pull it out so I didn’t drink it from the bottom of my glass.
Thank you for the update!!! I use Bragg's but I'll also take Fairchild's into consideration.
Thank you for the informative video, Dr Eric. Since taking apple cider vinegar in March 2023, I've been under the delusion that the sediment was the mother and would give the bottle a good shake until it vanished from the bottom LOL! Thanks for the heads up about Fairchild's. I get my raw and unfiltered vinegar (5%) from Costco in the UK, but I will check out who stocks Fairchild's.
Ostlers in Devon do a good one at a decent price.
If you leave the cap off your vinegar, the mother will form.
@@reflux043 Which type of vinegar do you recommend? Thanks
@@richardjohnston4682 Personally, i use Bragg with Honey. The stories about that brand changing the recipe is false. You just need to do the research on the other side, instead of having a confirmation bias based on what you heard on social media. You could always make your own vinegar. I recommend Glen & Friends Cooking channel on youtube, for making apple cider vinegar, pineapple vinegar, and beer vinegar.
My ACV is also at 5% and says its a product from Spain.
At first I also drank Bragg Apple Cider Vinegar, but I switched to making my own apple cider vinegar from fresh apples a long time ago. And my opinion is that the apple cider vinegar I make is by far much tastier, despite the fact that the process is of course not standardized, i.e. each batch turns out to be different. In fact, the taste even depends on how long it sits in the bottle after bottling before I drink it. Still, they're all much tastier than Bragg!
I make mine from the cores and the bruised peels. Super easy and essentially free.
I’ve made fruit vinegar before but not apple cider vinegar. Do you get that gluttonous (sp?) blob at the bottom of your jar when you make your apple cider vinegar? I wonder what Dr. Berg would say about that. Everyone else is saying it’s the mother. That’ll be interesting to hear his ideas.
@@terryhall2299 Yes, that is the mother. Usually it forms at the top. Sometimes, it sinks to the bottom, but not too often. When it becomes too big, I put it in the blender with the ACV and use it all together.
Can you give the recipe, for the apples
@@inesmeneses8570 You really don't need any special science or preparation to make homemade apple cider vinegar! Simply buy a few pounds of apples, preferably good sweet ones, although sour apples can also be made. Get a large enough pot with a lid. Wash the apples, then chop them all into the pot. You can also cut in the apple cores. You don't have to peel the apples beforehand, the peel can go in as well. If you also cut the peel, it will taste more tart, so it will give your vinegar a more individual taste, and it will also contain more vitamins. However, in this case, the chemicals with which the apples were sprayed, waxed, polished, etc. can also get into your vinegar.
Then mix some water with a little sugar. No matter what kind of sugar. Honey is not really a good substitute for sugar. Three or four tablespoons of sugar is enough for a good-sized pot. In the last case, it also works if you don't add any sugar at all, only then the process is much slower. And the more sugar you add, the stronger your vinegar will be.
Pour the sugary juice over the apples, then add more water to cover the apple pieces.
Since apples are lighter than water, some apple pieces will stick out on top, but don't worry. For the first two or three days, stir it a little once or twice a day so that the water touches everything. But after that, don't poke anymore.
Cover the pots, but not completely airtight, because then it will not be vinegar but wine...
You have to wait about 3 weeks. Do not use hot water to prepare it! If you have previously prepared homemade apple cider vinegar, you can pour a tablespoon of it on the new portion being preparated at the beginning as an inoculating agent, it speeds up the process.
If a stretchy gray or whitish snot-like mass appears on top, don't be alarmed, that's GOOD, because that stretchy thing is a colony of vinegar-making microscopic fungi!
And this slime is also edible and full of vitamins!
This is the real "Mother"!
And it's only slimy at first while it's still thin and young. If you leave it for a long time, it will become thick and like rubber.
However, if you see yellowish, greenish or reddish mold on top, remove those pieces immediately.
After four weeks, strain it, put it in bottles and use it. It is likely that the slimy "Mother" will form again on top of the liquid after bottling, because it matures longer, but don't worry about that, the vinegar will be even tastier!
The one objection to Dr. Berg’s explanation is that bacteria cannot be seen. Sure, an individual bacterium cannot be seen, however, if a bacterial culture is incubated/grown it’s presence becomes very obvious in a clouding of the medium in which it is growing.
Thats what he says at mjnute 1:20..or not?
I’ll purchase from the Fairchild’s website and let them know that you sent me. Thanks, Doc!

Lucy's organic ACV is also another one to look for. Family owned, BPA free, unpasteurized, unfiltered with the actual mother.

Thanks Dr. B. You may want to address the video that was recently put out by the other Dr. B about your lemon water video. Thanks for all you do.
You can't see individual bacterium but you can see biofilms, large colonies of bacteria. If you make your own apple cider vinegar you will see the resulting biofilm form on the surface of the vinegar. You mix this into your vinegar and you have "mother" mixed in plus still seeing the biofilm clumps. You can also see the cloudiness of the liquid as it loads up with yeast and then bacteria.
Ya like does he not know that? Uhhhh

Glad this video was informative!
Now I have to look for Fairchild's ACV.
Thank you.

Thank you, congratulations, regards from Athens Greece..
Dr. Berg Thanks for sharing all the details .
I a bunch of fermentation and you're right in that what you see at the bottom of the jar isn't necessarily the mother, but I can attest that if you grow yeast and bacteria, it will develop into what's called a "scoby". Kefir grains are a scoby, and the stuff that grows in ACV is also a scoby. So you can't see the individual bacteria or enzymes in ACV but if there's enough growth you can see the resulting scoby, and it would be the mother. Some scoby will float, some will hang in the middle of the bottle, some will settle to the bottom, but the way you can tell if its sediment and leftover parts of the apples, it'll be more or less like granules or wet sand or the like.... and if its the actual MOTHER, it'll be stringing together forming periodic blooms and shelves and fins and the like... But ACV like anything else, with enough growth, will absolutely have visible bacteria/yeast colonies.
I've been doing 1-2 Tbsp daily of Bragg apple cider vinegar in an effort to follow through on being more healthy (watching your videos that taught me about ACV). I'm not apposed to switching brands at all, but confirm that Bragg is still good even if it isn't the best. I'd hate to think I wasted all this time and effort...

It’s important to note that you can get the benefits from any kind of vinegar, not just ACV.
so i can just take some white vinegar???
@@BlueFusion2910White vinegar, however, has some benefits, but, it's too acidic & not as good as the others. It's great for topical applications, tho
VERY important to note! 🙄
💯
White vinegar is very processed. Wouldn't it make more sense to use something alive if we're looking for health benefits?
Thank you for that info. I’ll be buying Fairchilds going forward. keep up the great work you do. Love your videos and info.
Okay, very good!
great video, thanks for clearing that up. I use to choose my Bragg's bottle by picking the one with the most 'mud' on the bottom, Now I know better.
All of this type of information is one step forward and one step back, endlessly. I'll just eat what seems ok to me and leave it at that.
❤ Thank you so much Doctor Berg. Another useful topic as usual ❤
You're most welcome!
Thank you Dr. Berg for explaining this. I personally do not use any ACV but will share this information to people that do. 🤗
Thanks. Appreciate the help in sharing the video.
I look for your videos because they have taught me so much. I really do appreciate you ❤
Thank you very much for watching my videos. Wishing you good health!
Dr. Berg....FABULOUS video! Thank you!
So glad you like it!
Thank you for the great info Dr. Berg!!
You're most welcome!
Your information is always an eye opener, thanks so much for your great work Dr Berg!🙏
You're very welcome! Glad you found it helpful.
So awesome, thank you! I bought Fairchild’s as soon as I watched this.
Thanks, Dr. Berg. Another myth exposed! Unfortunately, Fairchild 's apple cider vinegar is unknown here in Australia. I wish I knew what good product to buy instead. 😢😢
Good timing, I’m just about to run out of Bragg’s!
Thank you! That’s great to know, I just ran out of the Braggs, and bought this other kind, Nonna Pia’s, raw unpasteurized with the “mother”. I will look for Fairchilds next time. A friend and I once made our own. It was fun but the fruit flies loved it too. 😂
So glad you shared this info. Bragg's is no longer the product it used to be and Fairchild's is the best at this time!
Dr Berg, what do you think of Lucy’s organic ACV? Almost everyone I know uses that over Bragg and Fairchilds.
YT is unsubscribing people unknowingly. I've been subscribe to your channel for a number of years since 2018 actually and just realized on this video that I wasn't subscribed when i went to like the video. not sure when it happened but that would explain why I haven't been getting notifications like before. wow that's really low of YT to do that!
Thank you. I loved this because I learnt quite alot from this video.
I've been using Braggs for the past year to recover from gut issues. What those issues are exactly, I don't know, but I suspect candida overgrowth in the aftermath of a month on cipro and some chlorine dioxide I took. Had some major gut issues after the CD food sensitivity and digestive issues for a year.
Been doing better, Braggs has helped as has Irish sea moss and a bunch of candida cleanse herbs and I feel great improvement.
Not sure if the Braggs helped, I feel it did, but not sure. Probably the most helpful thing I've done was cut the sugar out of my diet
Great stuff Eric. Love your videos, knowledge and your way of communicating. That dry humour with sarcasm is something else.
Anyway, we don't seem to be able to get Fairchild's here in the Ireland.
If there's a way for them to export to here - Ireland and UK would be great.
Or, if you know of a brand that's is available here that is top notch that would be good to know.
Many thanks,
Paul
I buy Ostlers Cloudy Apple Cider Vinegar off Amazon UK. I used to buy Braggs but this is cheaper and now, in light of this video, a much superior product. Raw, unfiltered, unpasteurised.
@@franceswatts4001 … and you get it delivered to the UK? ✔️
We just switched to Bragg's Olive Oil because it's so confusing and we trusted them!
Now back to the drawing board!
We'll look for Fairchild's ACV-
Thanks Dr. Berg!
Braggs used to be the best. I've noticed a huge difference this year. Never tried Fairchild but I will now. Thanks a million!
We love Dr.Berg and ACV too.. ❤
Alright!
Thank Dr Berg! What exactly is the top layer? I'm making my own ACV and with your info, I'm not sure what it is anymore.
SCOBY
@@BouncySlim1 thanks!
@@cathyb4770 I used to make homemade kombucha and vinegars. The kombucha developed a new SCOBY with each batch. I couldn't find anyone to give them away to. I ended up with a SCOBY motel. 😂😂😂. The SCOBY of the vinegars were less virulent.
Some people eat the SCOBY..........not my cup of tea. Lol.
I gave up the kombucha game and I'm back to making kefir. Hopefully the casein doesn't trigger an autoimmune reaction. 🤞🏾🤞🏾
@@cathyb4770 kombucha is just as easy as your vinegars. I started mine with the about an ounce of liquid with sediment from a plain (or ginger) store brought kombucha. (GTS tends to be best as a starter) added to sweet black/green tea.
