@@ANTHONY-rp3ud oh yeah I did get it btw. It's worth it just to watch tubi on, holy shit the amount of free content on that. Btw, I'm not a big anime buff at all, but I was amazed how much of that was on there for example.
Anyway, the shield was easy to set up and easy to operate. I'm gonna try my hand at ordering some pay services soon and see how that all plays out but so far no complaints.
@@blitheringrando1410 here's a bit of a Nvidia Shield pro tip. If you unable to developer options by clicking on it like eight times or whatever it will tell you developer options are enabled. Do not change anything under developer options unless you know what you are doing but if you look carefully in there you will find a couple of options like window animation scale, animation duration scale, and a third one I believe that I forget the name of. They should be set to x1 by default but if you change them to x0.5 it will make the interface and the window transitions when opening and closing apps twice as fast. You can also set it to zero but things look a little bad and it's too fast if you set it to zero in my opinion so set it at 0.5 speed so everything still looks nice. It's a nice little easy to do way to improve performance on any Android device. This tip also works for any Android phone or tablet.
And the opposite is true if you increase that animation duration. If you increase it everything will be real slow and you can see the effect that has but if you set it to 0.5 speed it's a nice little free performance boost.

The big difference between the pro and regular versions is that the pro can be used as a Plex server and the regular cannot, Also for the love of God can they put a mute button on the remote?
pro is 64 bit also compared to 32 non plus extra gig of ram and usb for storage compared to microsd in non
Pressing both volume buttons at the same time toggles the mute.

Hi I have a firestick and am unable to use an ntfs hard drive so all videos are limited to 4gb. Do you know if you can use an NTFS formatted hard drive with the shield
@@jimjamyaya4309 search the shield forums but i wouldnt give up on the fs especially the 4k one as price to performance it's better than the shield. even if the shield has 2x the peformance it's still 3x the amount of the 4k fs

The original shield tv from 2015 is still the best in my eyes due to more storage options, micro sd slot plus 500gb - albeit mechanical - hard drive. I swapped the latter out for a 4TB ssd so that everything is internal. The storage onthe more recent shield allows for less apps and the memory fills up with too many preview vids of using due to the paltry 16 gig storage.

Def the best. I have both the Shield Pro (living room) and the original (family room).
I wanted to buy, but im not sure about it because I hear there are many ads and commertials and that it is impossible to block them. Raspberry Pi 4 model B is pretty fast and that thing can block all ads on the go. It can boot in to many different operating systems and there is also a raspberry smart tv OS and different retro console emulation OS. It can stream games, but for streaming games im sure Shield Pro will outbeat Raspberry in every spec.

Short answer: No. If you enjoy the UI of the smart TV and it's responsive-enough then I see no need to update. Those Sony TVs have a fantastic upscaler built in.
HOWEVER - After about 4 years my WEBos on my LG OLED, she has slowed down to the point where an external device was need.
4 years from now I assure there will be an even better Shield 2 or 3. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching man much appreciated.

Next Gen Console.
Add a large hard drive and you have a Nvidia branded sort of Xbox, but this is opposite in terms of coming from and leaning their product heavily among video entertainment whilst starting to create some gaming, but not much. The Xbox comes from a gaming only background and is now becoming more of an entertainment device (something Sony and their fans like to pick on when it comes time for sales), though Microsoft still tries their best to show they haven’t given up on the gaming community.
I actually think they might be loving this current gaming community and it’s size and popularity.
I do also think that a machine like the Nvidia Shield and an Xbox continue to come together, I really can’t wait to see what machine gets designed once all the ideas finally clash into each other…
That has to be the future of gaming/entertainment type of consoles. Maybe one day we won’t even need a console and everything will be available via the cloud and you can still back up anything by downloading the file (not how it is, how it should be) which shouldn’t be too difficult.
Like, maybe something like the Shield by Nvidia will become the NextGen console.
This streaming device, which allows some gaming with actual gaming pads/controllers to be connected almost seems like a message being sent to their competition as well as their current partners that they’re continuing to move on and move up.
They intend to build back, build back better.
They’re showing off new capability and hopefully have some plan in store to maybe push Microsoft and Sony.
for hardcore users get a shield for softcore get a 4k FS no point in spending 3x the $money if your not going to use the shield's features
That's true but I switched to the shield from fire stick and cube and it just works so much better for iptv

Mine was a brick out of the box. Waiting on a replacement from Amazon. This is actually the first time I've received a totally dead piece of equipment in many years. Hope it's not indicative of what I can expect from the Shield going forward (once the replacement arrives.)
I’m a bit of a newbie - but what does it actually do? I assume that all the streaming services apps in it I still have to login and pay?
All good welcome to the mob! You are correct my friend. It is a small media streaming device but is made by a very technological and reputable company. It has many many apps to stream. Most have trials. You can setup "plex" if you are a bit tech savvy which is local network video player. It has many many features and I believe its work a try. If you dont like it, return it. RUclips is obviously free. Nvidia account is required but free. Its a solid product. Oh and you can stream your PC library to it which is killer. Thanks for watching bud!

No. They have common issues with random rebooting which is down to power supply.
I have been running a Popcorn Hour for over 10 years now to play my movie library from my server over ethernet. I have a smart TV and not all that interested in streaming all that much (mainly Netflix and RUclips) but not much else. Really looking for something that will output in 4K but act much the same for playing my own collection of music and movies. Any suggestions?
I LUV my Nvidia Shield PRO but the only thing is I wish it came with 32GB storage and one more HDMI. especially for the price. This is due in so many stream apps out there to download.

yes. works with external hdd and ssd and plays just about all video formats. i personally use an ssd. its has a faster read and right then an hdd. plus i edit 4k videos on the sheild pro and an ssd preforms better for 4k editing then an hdd

@@Mlock76 that is strange, maybe im missing something but for me i dont use plex and never used it. i use a 4tb external hdd as a removable plug and play movie media device. maybe it has something to do with the hdd format? i have my external hdd set to FAT32 and plug it in to the 2nd usb port on the back of my nvidia shield and in the 1st usb slot i have my systems actual adopted external storage. maybe the shield dont read my plug and play hdd as an extended storage because i already have an external ssd in usb slot 1?

I have own shield for a long time, it is good and fast! Probably the best streamer player in the world, the only downfall or flaw of it is the USB port, they are horrible and they don't work well. You can put a USB storage drive in it to store data on it, problem is after several months it goes bad and everything that was on that USB stick is lost. Shield doesn't recognizes it anymore. USB Stick is also no good, can't even format it on a PC. Try another one and it worked! But again repeats after several months so I stop using the USB ports on Shield because it will just destroyed the USB stick again and again. Other than that, I still use it and 16 GB is normally plenty for what we watch. It just sucks not to be able to use the USB to expand the storage. I don't know if it is my device that is defective or it's a common problem, so I am not sure.
Had my 2019 pro for years now and no usb problem. Must be a problem with yours.
I still have a 2015 version tucked away somewhere too.

@@darillfow Honestly could be, happen to me about a month ago with the new Formuler Z11 Pro Max, wanted to try a newer device for my other room and had nothing but issues on what is supposed to be a good device. But like anything else theirs always lemons.
@@americanbullies1247 Yeah the usb storage I had was a SanDisk 32GB which is plenty for android since the apps are small in sizes, I had a bunch of junk on it you know testing out different apps etc and so on, never had to worried about cleaning it out or emptying since it was plenty of storage, after several months or near a year the SanDisk got damaged it was also very hot. I took it out and was planning on just using it for PC storage however the SanDisk is no longer working had to throw the thing away in garbage unfortunately. I just never bothered with it anymore. 16 GB is plenty so I'm not gonna complain.

Go to Nvidia Accessories, click the controller, choose: Don't listen to "Ok Google prompt". Short fix. Ultimately no complete deactivate. You bought a Google device.. its to be expected they want a tiny bit of info to formulate recommendations for you but I do understand peoples privacy priority. Hope that helps my friend. I connected a Kingston disk on key then I formatted it and it took a lot of time and still not finished I removed it from the streamer during the formatting and still a message appeared that he formatted then I removed the streamer from the power and everything is fine now it is not terrible I removed the power while the streamer was running?

Correct, it's great, it's pricey but you get what you pay for. Alternatives might be the cheaper Chromecast Google TV as that's $50 but you would have to Google which streaming services would work for you. (No native Twitch.TV app - gaming - so i stream it from my phone to the Google TV. Works great. Amazon has some decent streaming boxes as well.

I own the Google TV, Chromecast Ultra with Stadia and the Nvidia Shield Pro. They are all great but have different functions.
If you're more of a PC gamer and want the fastest interface with the best upscaling, the Nvidia Shield.
If you're pretty casual and just want a nice UI and interface, sometimes cast your device to it, then I would suggest the much cheaper Google TV.
*chromecast has no interface or remote.

I think thats where Roku got this beat...all the signing in through Google and Chrome cast is a no...can I use this without internet just to watch usb movies? Roku allows it.

yes you can use a usb to play movies without internet. i have a 6TB hdd filled with movies that i watch on the sheild. why would you compare a roku to the sheild? because of google sign in? everyone has there own reasons i guess.

Its faster and u can do more stuff with the shield. I have a 4k fire stick and shield I just use the fire stick to work Xfinity streams tv

No word or recent rumors. I'd day its say to still buy in September 2021. And again; if you second guess yourself or more news comes out, you can always return it.

Not a big deal. Doesn't distract you or interrupt your activities. It sits on the home screen and actually makes ot look nice. Ignore it and go about your business.
I also love software updates so cool to see what's new

I mean yes if you already have a PC that runs steam on your home network or a GeForce now account. Otherwise I'd say get a switch or something. I'm not sure how hardcore you are.

If you are considering the VCS for some reason, save yourself a hundred bucks or 2 and just get the Shield Pro.

always crazy isnt very descriptive i know vizio soundbar's shutdown if you have multiple devices working with CEC

Hello, my LG tv (2020) does not have eARC but only ARC.... It is LG type 71006lb. I want a new soundbar HWX950A Samsung with Dolby Atmos... But the new LG tv does not support dolby atmos... Can a Nvidia shield or pro help me so i can receive dolby atmos on my new tv (2020)? Thanks
yes if you connect the shield directly to the soundbar's HDMI-in port you will get atmos. in that setup it doesn't matter if the tv supports atmos as the only thing going from soundbar to tv is the video

Untrue. It legit says Pro on the box. The remote is the "controller". If you're talking about the official Nvidia P2570 controller, that is an optional extra (also a very poorly built controller - hence why it is not popular). Buying that would be a very bad investment. Hook up any Xbox/Playstation controller via Bluetooth or USB and your experience will be 10x better for far much less money. Also, it's a media device, not a gaming console unless you consider Cloud gaming to be a real thing. You're better off on your phone using Xcloud using Bluetooth with an Xbox controller or something. Suggestion, save up for a true console or build a PC. Do I think it's still the best MEDIA BOX on the market, yes, compared to a fire stick or Chromecast, yes, but it is not a gaming machine in the hopes I think you're asking it to be. So I picked up an NVIDIA SHIELD TV Pro a couple of weeks ago to use solely as a Plex server. My hope was to get better transcoding from it than from my current Synology NAS. After a week of email exchanges with NVIDIA Support, the SHIELD is being returned. The problem? Although you can mount a NAS to it for media storage, you can't use the NAS for metadata storage. Any moderate Plex library will exhaust the SHIELD's internal memory and attaching a USB drive to the thing for metadata storage was not what I was looking to do; twice the power usage, significant additional expense. So, the device goes back. Very disappointing experience overall.

I mean of course you could but if you have a smart tv, I'd use that until you get a solid ISP cable setup. The phone hotspot might be slow or laggy. Goodluck!

The removal to various app I would assume is from brand deal changes between the big companies like google and nvidia and your location. I'm not 100% positive. They may come back.

I had a nvidia shield pro with kodi installed. All l had was problems buffering and not connecting to movies. Waste of my money.
Its not the machine, its the movie link sources. I dont havent used kodi for years and still get lots of free movie apks. You dont need kodi.
Watch some y tube videos theyll help you get things like APK Time and Blokada and enable you to install the apks you need for your moves and shows. I can suggest Cinema HD and Bee Tv and Zeni Tevi for example. Ive had mine for years,its great once you unlock its potential.

AI upscaling best use ive found so far is IPTV but yea the shield remote isnt the greatest for iptv and lack of recording options for iptv
