  • Wire Pass Trail to Buckskin Gulch is a dream come true for slot canyon lovers. This trail lets you access Buckskin Gulch, one of the longest slot canyons in the world, roughly about 16 miles through beautiful sandstone walls and unique formations. It is considered one of the best hikes in the Paria Canyon-Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness and for good reasons. This hike transports you to a magical world of breathtaking, water-sculpted sandstone walls, some at least 500 feet high. The red sandstone playing against the dark shadows of the deep canyons gives you an eerie, yet captivating feeling.

    I set out to do this hike in late July, 2021. There had been so much rain the day before I called the Ranger and he said the water was chest high. I bagged it but a few days later did Kannaraville. Good, informative videos, keep them coming.

      @@LiveThatAdventure Ask anyone in the Polar Bear Club. Cold water is initially a shock and then you get used to it. Until I slipped and fell in. PS Kannaraville is great. And worth getting the $12? permit

    It's a beautiful hike. Been there several times. However you had better check the weather. If there's a 5% to 10% chance of rain I will not enter these Canyons. There's no cell service once in the canyons.
    I started to enter one year and thanks to delay this saved my life. As we were approaching the canyon and not a cloud in the sky, out shot a 30"' wall of water! That was loud and terrifying. My wife would never enter this canyon after seeing this. That flash flood was from a 15 min heavy rain from 13 miles up in the canyon I later learned.
    So check the weather!

      Yes, the weather is so important when exploring slot canyons. It's wild because you wouldn't normally think about the weather far away. We are so glad that your wild experience had a happy ending!

    Word of warning to anyone considering this hike: at least four people have died so far in 2023 in two separate incidents - both flash floods. Check the forecasts and start early.

      Ya that's always something we try to stress in the videos. Slot canyons are beautiful, but they definitely have their dangers.

    I hiked this one on July 4th, it was amazing!! I went lower Buckskin first, encountered knee high and ankle high pools of water, reached “The Overlook”, the one located at the second blind arch.
    Then went upper Buckskin all the way to the fork for Edmaiers Secret and checked that spot too 😉
    Walking on the deep sand was no fun, but had the whole place for myself 😎
    Logged 16.3 miles and 2000ft elevation on this one 🥵

      Woah! That sounds like one heck of a day! Its hard enough navigating the rocky canyon in dry conditions. I bet you were exhausted! Its such a pretty place though. Even though we knew it was just going to be more slot canyons, we were super stubborn when it came to turning around to head back. Just a lil further, just a lil further . Congrats on the awesome adventure!

      Yes, it’s hard to fight the temptation to keep going forward 🤣
      You bet I was exhausted 🥵 … it was easily over 100°F and had to abandon the idea of going to the Maze Rock Art, The Nautilus and the Dinosaur Tracks on that day. I managed to hit the tracks and the Nautilus on the next day though, but the Maze Rock Art will have to wait until the next time I get up there 😎

    Hi there , great video, thank you! Some friends and I are planning a trip there, wondered if you saw any hotels/ lodging that’s closer to the trail head? We live in St George but thought we should get a room somewhere so we can take our time in the slot canyon. Any help is appreciated. Safe & Happy trails

    • @LiveThatAdventure
      @LiveThatAdventure  Год назад

      Hi, the nearest hotels/lodging would be at Kanab, Big Water, or Page. You will have more options at either Kanab or Page. If you're up for camping, there are many options for primitive camping. You can also check out Stateline Campground and White House Campground. We believe Stateline is free, but it is dry camping. It is closest to the trailhead for Buckskin. We hope that help!! 😊

    Great video - very informative. I have a few questions lol.
    The full hike you did, including the wash, the actual Buckskin Gulch on the right, and the return, including the route to the left, how long (hours/miles) did it take you? We will be doing this possibly second week of October. What time of day do you suggest to avoid the heat? And I know you can't answer this for sure, we will check weather, but do you think it could be wet? We're new to this and don't want to do all of BG. Is is possible to see plenty and make it be only about 3 miles roundtrip?

    • @LiveThatAdventure
      @LiveThatAdventure  3 года назад +2

      Hi, it is about 2 miles each way to the fork (confluence with Buckskin Gulch). At this point, you can go as far as you want before turning back. After the confluence, we went for another mile or so to the actual Buckskin before turning back. The route to the left, we didn't go that far. So our total miles was about 6 miles or so.
      I would go early to avoid the heat and the crowd. It can be busy there. It seems like the people that went recently said that the trail is muddy and has some water. I would check with the BLM office there. If you go on our blog, the link is in the description, it has all the stats and contact info that you would need.
      If anything, you can just go to the confluence and go back. That would be about 4 miles. Most people do that. There's plenty to see.

      @@LiveThatAdventure Thank you very much for your response and just to double check and of course we will as well, you mentioned people said the trail was muddy and I think you’re referring to the Buckskin Gulch trail? The 2 miles each way that you reference, would that be the wire pass trail?
