Limiting the people protects the formations but also makes for a better experience because you aren’t battling other people for photos and can enjoy the area in peace
Glad you got to see it. I did the Wave last December. I got lucky and got a permit on my first try. Followed up with Angels Landing the next day. Two bucket list hikes I will never forget.
Very glad you got to see this Josh! I was lucky enough to get a permit on my first attempt, and wasn't even planning to apply. Made friends with some strangers at Zion and we won the lottery the next day. Truly an other worldy experience that's more that just the Wave itself. Thanks for bringing back great memories!
WOW, this is FANtastic. I am so happy you finally got a permit. I can see how hikers would have to be alert. Thanks for sharing this amazing, bucketlist experience with us, Josh... another, super video 🏡🙏🏻🌞🎊👏🏻👏🏻
What an incredible hike to the Wave in Arizona! The sandstone formations and color swirls are absolutely mesmerizing. It's clear why this spot is a bucket list destination. Thanks for sharing your journey and all the helpful permit information. Securing a permit may be tough, but the reward looks totally worth it. This video definitely inspires me to try for a permit myself someday. Great work! Cheers, Simon - Tales From Abroad
That's incredible you were able to get the permit! And well worth the wait indeed, look at those views! The waves, the rock formations that almost look like tents in the distance. Gorgeous!
Until your last video, I'd never heard of the wave. W.O.W. That was amazing. Got to add that to my UT travel. Thanks for including the permit information!
What a complete coverage of the hike of the Wave and other areas you videoed there! It is just unbelievably unique and beautiful. Thank you for the dedication that you had in gaining your permit. I enjoy seeing the high level of enthusiasm and joy that you show when you are exploring.
What an amazing place and how special you were able to enjoy it. We enjoy all your videos. We have been to many of those places so it's great to visit them again with you and relive our experiences. Great photography Josh as well as super editing. Thanks for all you share with us.
Reminds me a lot of the Rainbow mountains in Bolivia (also my preferred childhood fizzy sweets & to a certain extent Marsian landscape without having to take a rocket...takes a lot longer to get there for sure as you confirmed yourself but worth the wait & yet it surely ROCKS!!! 😎No wonder they ask for a permit, imagine the damage. A lifetime's journey for sure!
I am so excited that you won the lottery and share with us... we was there last month and no luck for the Wave but we won Coyotes Butts South which we are happy..too....the area is amazing
I've seen countless numbers of videos and photos of the Wave and it never gets old. I think I should try for a permit for next spring and try my luck before I get too old.
I have applied online and never won tickets from it, but when we were on a road trip and within the geofence area, we decided to apply and didn't have high hopes, but we were notified a couple days later that we were selected. We also got lost, or as my husband says, "sightseeing detour," 😂 it was an amazing hike. Being in the geofence area helps a lot when applying. We went there to hike Wirepass and Buckskin, but was thrilled once we found out we're going back to hike The Wave. We ran into a couple on our way to Wirepass asking about the path to The Wave, we asked if they had permits, and they said no. So I don't know if they heeded our advice or not about being caught without a permit. Havasupai Falls is our next big dream hike, but from my research, it is hard to get as well. It is very much a sought-after adventure. Always enjoy your content, Josh.
I've been trying to get permits for this trail and hike it for my second time and it's been tough. Loved this trail and can't wait to get it once again soon.
That was a very cool hike. I'm glad you got a chance to visit. I must say I don't have any hikes I've tried to do for 5 years...for you it seemed worth the wait....well done mate. 👍
After seeing numerous of your videos. This is your best hike, though it seems too extreme of a hike for most of my fam haha great work capturing this beauty. We will stick with the hike to the firewave in NV. Easier and watch others hike this beauty.
You guys should have done the Fremen sandwalk (unless that would trigger a copyright strike). Great video. I'm getting too old to hike, so enjoying your excitement vicariously is the next best thing.
I got lucky last October and got invited on a friend's permit. The video is on my channel. Well worth the trip. Then I photographed the annular eclipse. Awesome trip!
Awesome! I normally get annoyed at these "restricted access" things, but having seen it in your video, I get it. Imagine all of that landscape littered with water bottles, McDonald's bags, tents, and everything else left behind by the masses? Nah, keep it restricted!
Even as an American and been apply for permits throughout the years, we can never got to go! Why, we were and are never lucky in any lottery system. From state lottery to national park lottery, we don’t have that kind of luck
I went a few years ago so maybe it's changed, but no limit within your permitted day. 12am-1159pm. They used to limit it but that forced people to hike in the heat of the sun, so they opened it up to all day.
It certainly isn't. (Prepare for possibly to much context). You'll notice there's pretty much no opportunity for shade and next to no water, especially if you don't know where to look for it. The only reason they even have the limited signs is because 4 people died in a single week and there was public outcry. So they put up 4 signs that are not permanently affixed because, as the ranger who prepped us said, "we're not Moab, we don't just pound stuff into the rocks. The signs could be blown over, covered by fog, or in the back of some guys truck because he thought it would be a good souvenir. Really, I found that". The problem lies in the big saddle. People remember they went over it and need to go back, but there's a reason they use that one. There's often not a safe way down the other side. And if you've just expended a lot of energy getting to the top in 110 degree heat, you could be in trouble. Then of course flash floods that could wash through the trail or wipe out the road to it. They do a good job of scaring you - I mean making sure you know what you're getting into. I went in late fall so heat wasn't an issue, but part of the reason I won the permit first time was because there was 100% chance of rain the next day and the initial speech scared off most of the applicants as "if you win the permit and choose to not go due to weather, you still may not apply again for another 2 weeks". This left is with a 4 in 13 chance of winning and our number was chosen first. We hired one of the approved tour guides, which was a great decision. They drove us to and from the hike, and of course led us along the way. It was great not to have to worry about getting lost or stuck, and they showed us many of the other features of the area including dinosaur tracks, hamburger rock and the boneyard. They also took us on a route where the reveal of the Wave was from the iconic picture spot, which was a nice touch. Get out there if you can! Thanks for coming to my Ted talk!
@@andrewcotton4382 wow, this is all great background. It did seem like the signs posted were put there because they had to, not that they wanted to. I think “scaring” people with the truth even if slightly exaggerated is warranted. They need to know that place isn’t like others and needs to be viewed differently. The tour guide sounds like a great option. Thank you for sharing.
crazy they only let a handful of people to go, only 2 other people. looks like you could have 1000 or more people there and it still wouldn't be that many people. they should allow more people to go
If anyone deserved to hike the wave, it’s you. You earned the experience for sure.
Limiting the people protects the formations but also makes for a better experience because you aren’t battling other people for photos and can enjoy the area in peace
Only thing better than this video is seeing that you finally got to do it. Congratulations man! This is bucket list for us too

Radically beautiful Josh! Thank you for waiting the permit out! It paid off big time! I can’t believe our fantastic the Wave is!❤️😀🇺🇸🐥
I have to enjoy this through your lens, because I won't be doing that in this lifetime. It's spectacular! Thank you for the experience!
Me, too.
Beautiful landscape, I bet it was a quiet adventure, I would have enjoyed it myself, Thanks for sharing Josh always an awesome one

Wow. Absolutely 💯 % awesome. It's such a short drive for me.

the so called "Paradise", is just upon our Planet....!!!!
There’s also a Big Mac stone in the Coyote Butte North, don’t miss it!❤
It’s going to be hard to find a more beautiful place to hike, but don’t stop hiking; Josh 😅
Wow

Amazing pictures and site! I am curious to know how these waves were created.
Sand blown by the wind over time carved and smoothed it out
@@johng5710 thanks for explanation.

Nah, keep it restricted!
did you use any trail apps to get to Melody arch and Sand Cove?
太帅了!
We were there in June 2023. What time of year did you go?
how many miles to the last arch?
How does it compare to hiking the grand canyon?
What month did you hike the wave?
What is Pop's channel called. Thanks.
Are you going to Amangiri? Would love to see your experience there.

How do you get the money to travel all the time.
It’s pretty cool but it’s not worth getting a permit for the sand stones though because I can go to a national park in Utah to see that all day .
Is there a time limit or can you spend as long as you want there?
I went a few years ago so maybe it's changed, but no limit within your permitted day. 12am-1159pm. They used to limit it but that forced people to hike in the heat of the sun, so they opened it up to all day.

this place looks great but the lottery system is a scam run by private corporations..
Pisses me off that fines and jail time can be imposed for a hike. I'm glad you got to do this but as a "free" country, this is BS.
