9:47 A while ago I had to install 25 touchscreens like this one.
Fortunately I used to play with Lego a lot, when I was little. And since I saved all my Legos stuff I made myself a simple rig, to easily align the screen with the display. All are aligned perfectly. And it didn't take much time at al.

The touchscreen didn't need any configuring? Wow, I'm impressed! I've spent many hours configuring touchscreens, over the years - trying to get them precise ... a veritable pain!

This is an interesting piece of kit. I like the fact it can run Windows 10 and the touchscreen seems quite responsive. I can see how this would be fun when creating projects. Thanks for showing off the device. I look forward to additional LattePanda videos.

It's great to see a raw, unedited "warts n all" video. USB upside down (twice), screen upside down, a cellophane mishap, it all adds to the mix. I'm thinking of getting a lattepanda for game streaming, but I don't need the more project-based arduino malarkey... Suggestions for a x86 SBC, anyone?

    RUclips if needed.

So many useful things to use it for in an automotive setting.

I like the Latte Panda. Something like this can be excellent to have in certain situations. However, I wish that the ribbon cables for the display and capacitive touch screen were sleeved to offer some kind of durability and protection. Those cables are delicate and can break very easily. Also, it would be excellent if the screen had some sort of stand mechanism. Small things like this matter to consumers as they can increase the usefulness and life span of such a device.

I realize that this SBC and touch screen has some coolness for experimenting, but you're spending more than you need to for a functional Win10 touch 7" screen computer. With the LattePanda and screen and touch you've already spent over $200 and you haven't even got an enclosure, battery power or power supply. In comparison, for $165 you can get a full Win10 2G/32G quad core touch netbook with 10" screen on Amazon (G-Anica Chromebook) with a 1 year warranty.
For an IoT device I prefer RPi3 (or DragonBoard) with Win10 IoT Core Pro (Pro version is free now) since the OS can be locked down to protect it and your application from tampering.

I think it's so fascinating how capable smaller computers such as the Raspberry Pi and this (I'm sure there's others). I suppose gaming is different, but do you think this is the future for consumer computing? No more towers, just connect to a monitor, and peripherals. Not sure about laptops as they can't be mobile, but if you have a monitor where you work for example, and a monitor at home and just use the computer between the two places. Not to mention they'd be more energy efficient too. Very interesting video. :)

    • @ExplainingComputers
      @ExplainingComputers  8 лет назад

Thanks for this. And yes, I am sure this is the future for many types of computing -- maybe even, in time, video editing and gaming as the power of smaller devices increases. I read today that NEC are releasing a new range of large monitors that can fit a Raspberry Pi compute unit (effectively a Raspberry Pi in another form factor) in the back. This is intended for doing things like digital signage, but may also indicate another avenue of travel. I am currently planning videos on both the future of the desktop PC, and of single board computers . . . :)

ExplainingComputers You're welcome, thank for for spending the time researching, making videos and responding back to comments. It's really nice to see a big channel (over 100,000 subscribers) where the creator responds back to viewers, I'd imagine it isn't an easy task either. I just Googled that article and saw that the computer slots into the back of the TV, which is even better as it will hide cabling, and I would then assume the TV would have the ports on it seeing as most SmartTV's seem to have them. I look forward to viewing this video. Thanks for commenting back again. :)

The angle of the cable in the screen is a little bit weird, it's against the lesser size, that can be a hassle if you need a good spot to stick the LattePanda.
It would be kinda better if the flat cable was in the right or left of the screen instead of in the bottom...

Would be nice if we got a x86 board in the sub 50 range. especially if you could get the monitor and all for sub 100-150.

Could the display be used with HDMI in any way? The display seems very affordable compared to ther displays

So can the LattePanda have an external HDMI monitor plugged up while this display is being used, or does using this prevent the HDMI output from working?
I really wish they'd sell the larger 4GB/64GB version of the LattePanda with an activated version of Windows 10, instead of leaving the confusing activation process as an exercise for the customer. I would have ordered one of those months ago!
    Thanks for the great videos!

Yes, you can run both the LCD panel and an HDMI monitor -- which is pretty neat! :) It is indeed say that LattePandas with Windows activated (as I show in the video) no longer seem to be available for the 4GB/64GB version. You can, of course, use Windows 10 unactivated for an indefinte period if you don't mind the "activation" water mark on your desktop . . . :)

Thanks Christopher! I may try to build a LattePanda system (processor, case, fan, heat sinks, display, etc) after Christmas, helped by your informative videos.
My main computer failed a couple of months ago due to a liquid coolant leak, so I had to build an emergency backup CENTOS system for e-mail and web browsing on some ancient hardware I still had laying around until I could fix it (which took a while). A LattePanda running Windows 10 would have been much nicer! To add insult to injury, when I eventually did repair my main computer (upgrading most internal components) Windows 10 required me to re-purchase an expensive "pro" license to activate it again - even though it was the original boot drive and logically the same system just with some new, updated hardware... They have weird rules for transferring licenses from old Win-10 systems too, that seem to prevent this from working most of the time - thus it would be much nicer if LattePanda would just bite the bullet and sell the large configuration activated in the first place. I see this requested a lot in their forums.

This might be a silly question but can both the IPs display and touch screen work with raspberrypi

What battery do I use for LattePanda? I can use a power bank with 5600 MAH?

I don't know, but such cases can be downloaded for 3D printout from Thingiverse.com :)

Not yet. Apparently you get contacted about a month after hitting 100K subs (which is about a month ago -- and no message yet!), and then you reply and they send something out. But Google have told me about an event for people who passed 100K subs in 2016, so something is in progress at their end . . . I will do the unboxing as soon as I have the thing! :)

Hello guys. I'd like to build a UMPC with this board. Shall I wait for the LattePanda Alpha come out, or do I buy the 1st gen panda now? Because now I can't bake the project (LattePanda Alpha). Then occasionally when I will have more money, i will buy the Alpha. I have in mind to do a little bit of gaming (nothing monstrous), normal computing and premiere pro editing (a lite thing, too). Thanks in advance and have a good evening (in Itasly now is 6 pm :D)
