I recently found your videos and I’m binge watching! 😖
A 19y/o man got killed in an accident (4wheeler wreck... heading collision with his buddy and they both died) near where I live. He loved duck hunting. He had a boat, pickup truck and his duck dog. From the church to the cemetery, his casket was placed in his boat. A few pall bearers road in the boat with the casket. Boat was pulled by his pickup truck with the other pallbearers riding in the truck bed. So cool.
Then after the minister spoke at the graveside, there was a prayer, then all of his friends and family took out their duck calls and started calling... goose bumps! Then other friends and family shot their guns (country boys). His duck dog was there too and he started barking and whining ...trying to go retrieve the ‘ducks’ because that’s his job! They had to hold him back.
The coolest thing of all... some ducks actually flew over and you could hear them responding to the duck calls. It was very ‘Country’ but the coolest thing I’ve seen in a long time!

I worked in a nursing home as a student, the respect shown to the those who died was extreme, we washed the bodies and dressed them, we did not speak, speaking was deemed as offensive. We opened the window in their room to allow their souls to leave us and go to God.

Well Keri once again you have done a great job! Once again you have answered all the questions I would have asked and maybe a few more. But it was great to know that you go the extra mile and leave individual choice for a person. And you do it with respect and compassion for families and people that are hurting after the loss of a loved one friend is not easy to take. And your honesty, sincerity, the way you handle things. But you also keep a compassionate and understanding side. I have to applaud you keri you have come into this profession with heartfelt feelings and dignity. And that is so important in times like this. And it's greatly appreciated.

My Grampy was an Irish folk singer and played the base in a band called The Garrison Brothers.(they’re on youtube) They were well known in Canada and traveled across Ireland and in their older years played in Irish bars in Boston. His memorial was amazing. We danced around the church with his ashes to Irish folk music. He was the most amazing man. He was also a mason and very involved in charity. People came to sing from around the world at his memorial and at his bedside before he passed away. Such a beautiful way to go with everyone he loved by his side.

Thank you Kari. Your commentaries are so interesting to me. When you were talking about a parent and child being together in a casket, this was the case in our family. My great niece and her 5yr.old little boy was murdered by the childs father. It was the first time that I had experienced viewing something like this. It was so heart wrenching but I must say it was so beautiful . I'm almost positive you heard about this case or possibly worked on it but the funeral home did an amazing job. They both looked beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing your information with us. I've always had curiosities about the deceased. Funeral homes creep me out a bit but it's our last stop to go to. Lol.

I know this is an old video, however, just thought I'd share an experience I had (as a funeral attendant for 20 years.) A gentleman had died & due to his religious beliefs needed to be buried facing east (so that he could face the Lord upon His return.) The cemetery site that the family could afford was not facing east, so we turned the decedent on his side inside the casket ..... in that position his body was facing east......

When my father died (and he had been sick with cancer and in bad shape I’m sure) his body at the visitation actually had little bugs like gnats around his hands and he did have an order. So the funeral director just closed him immediately and we couldn’t see him again. If he was embalmed why did this happen?

You mentioned alternate modes of transportation, besides the hearse, to carry the body and casket. It’s not unusual for a firefighter to have his last ride on top of a fire truck, I’ve seen that before. At my uncle’s funeral, they used one of his old trucks (he was a carpenter), and the pallbearers sat on the quarter panels of the truck, and they were playing country music going to the cemetery. I passed by a funeral home on another occasion, and the vehicle they were using for a lead car was an old 1960s vintage Chevrolet Camaro, so the deceased must have been a fan of old cars. I’ve also heard of motorcycle hearses being used at the funerals of motorcyclists. I saw another video where the deceased, who had been in the towing industry, had his last ride on a flatbed tow truck, and another one where the deceased was a trucker, and they had the casket on a flatbed trailer.

Now at 65 yr`s of age and having pursued another career, I`m sorry I didn`t follow my original plans. Questions: you may have already answered this in one of your vids; but do you have help in the prep room? And can one help without being a certified mortician in the business?
Your vids are very educational; ....I would recommend they be shorter in duration, and a better camera would be helpful.

I had my grandfather's second wife die unexpectedly. When I was about 12, anyway I have mentioned before that my family is very Jewish and we are but he chose his wife outside of our faith which wasn't a big deal but we did not do the same funeral practices for her as we would normally for other family members.
This was my first traditional Western funeral experience and I remember going up to her in the viewing and she look nothing like her which of course... gravity now that I'm older I know this but I remember how grey her skin was and how poorly the makeup was done it was splotchy and patchy at best I don't know if that's normal but that's how it looked and I remember thinking something wasn't right .
So I started looking at the body her resting hands or not placed very well it was cupped and a card sticking out of two fingers it was some angel prayer card I'm not too familiar with Christian prayers.
Then I started looking at her torso and I happened to glance down the casket and noticed that my grandmother was not wearing pants. Naturally we are a very loud bunch of people and we do not suffer silently so my mother told my grandfather and somebody produced small penlight and look down the casket sure enough there was no pants.
The funeral director himself was well into his eighties he was a very old man I feel like he had dementia but just wasn't quite ready to retire now that I look back at it but we were all a little shocked that she had no pants and we kind of looked at my grandfather to see what our next step was, we weren't sure if we were going to Riot or ignore it.
After a few moments my grandfather started laughing hysterically and he could not stop laughing and we just stared at him like he had lost his mind once he regained his composure he said you know she always was a hippie at heart she never liked pants anyways.
By this time the younger funeral director who I believe was his son had walked in and you could just see the horror on his face when he realized that my grandmother had no pants but once he saw the family laughing it was just a sigh of relief and concern. My grandfather gave him a side hug and said it's," okay son she never liked pants anyways "and then made the comment that when he first met his wife she was half-naked so it's fitting that she be half naked now.
A few years later I ran and to the funeral director there was a acquaintance of mine that unfortunately committed suicide and I ran into the funeral director after the viewing/wake my acquaintance was Irish so there was a lot of food and alcohol in the funeral home so everyone was laughing and having a good time. Anyway I told the funeral director my story and he started laughing and he he said yeah that was my father who forgot to put pants on your grandmother he explained after my grandmother's funeral they kind of forced him to retire to the front room he laughed at me and said he was expecting it to go a completely different direction and he said that our family's funeral was one of the more memorable ones.
Any just a chuckle thought I would share

The gold in teeth are not worth the trouble it took to retrieve it. It has other things mixed with the gold. Gold is actually very soft so it would not last without using amalgam.

Hi Kari you've always been so gracious and professional while answering my questions . However I have another question , in the case of decedent Fernando Diaz Beato killed in Brazil or Puerto Rico. He was embalmed and sat up with his eyes open at his wake. Were those prostetic eyes or his real eyes ? Thank you in advance.

Peggy Reichard My father was not. We told the funeral director to only do what he cosmetically had to do. Daddy looked great too. He was cremated the day after the funeral. He died Monday morning, funeral Wed afternoon, the cremation on Thursday. I picked him up a week later and that was hard. Allen listened to a story I told about Daddy and we sat him in the front seat and put the seat belt around him. There was a few tears. During his lifetime, he had raced cars so when I pulled out, I had a little hot rod moment and pealed the wheels in his honor. Through the tears, I thought of him and laughed!

I heard you speaking of clothing on the deceased. This is just my thoughts. The funeral director needs to tell the family to bring clothing in for the deceased with long sleeves. I have been to visitations and the family had put on short sleeves on the deceased. I just think it looks awful. It should be a requirement by the funeral home that the deceased has long sleeves. Just my opinion.

I have seen drinking once at a funeral and I thought in a way it felt disrespectful to the diseased, she did like to drink in life but it felt more like a party or bar Atmosphere and I felt that it was just a little much at the end of life maybe she did drink a lot but to include older people at a funeral and younger people and younger people were getting drunk and it just seemed inappropriate that’s just my opinion
