Awesome video man. The wasr is a great rifle despite of what some people say. Just need to thrash it, which is what you were doing. Mad respect man. Just keep sending it.
You should check out conceptualconcepts on modernizing AKs. He's definitely the best around on that front. He's the one that got me into the TDI x47 which was a fantastic option
I’d start with utilizing the Ultimak. Red dot on an Ultimak serves its purpose just fine regardless of how far it is from your face. Even dots with known parallax shift, the distance kind of helps.
WASR 10 is a just a great gun, and the best first and only AK. Side rail Midwest mount is a bit heavy, but is the best optic mount bar none. People are too cheap to buy a decent mount so end up with a garbage solution. YHM makes an excellent silencer and mount that is a joy to use and works great. I use 20 round mags to keep weight down and prevent floppy mags. Most people only shoot 5 rounds then change mags bacause they want to look cool.
First, buy a WASR-10 off of GunBroker for around $750-800. You don’t need it brand new if you’re saving money. If you can find a 10/63 for a similar price, then get it. Check pics of rivets and internals if possible. A good, clean riveted WASR should last 100,000 rounds or more raw before catastrophic failure (i.e., rail cracks off; cracked trunnion). Next, get the following parts to upgrade with: - KPYK stock for fixed rear trunnion - Romanian surplus dong for lower handguard (trust me it’s worth it, might have to refinish with new shellac) - Nice upper handguard of choice that fits aesthetics - Get a Romanian Bakelite pistol grip, it’s a Romanian rifle after all - Get a SM-13 side mount pic rail, has 7.5” of pic so you can even place an EoTech 512 with magnifier, LPVO, or other optic of choice - Get red dot or holographic of personal choice - RS Regulate BM-1 light mount - Light and switch of choice - Muzzle break or flash hider of choice - RAK-1 fire control group, works extremely well - Recoil buffer piece made of hard rubber, has been shown to reduce cracking of rear trunnions in high-count rifles. Then you have a good base rifle where you can give or take depending on your preferences. A sling is a personal preference. I run surplus. I own a WASR but mainly shoot and use my 5.45 Romanian CUR2 which is a civilian model AIMS-74, itself a term for civilian model of the standard service rifle of the Romanian military named the PA MD 86.
@ No, they missed by a couple. It came out in 1947 but it was in development in WW2. Supposedly Mikhail started designing it while he was in a field hospital after getting wounded.
@ No, that simply isn't the case. Look at literally every aspect of the gun. Everything came from WW2. Just because it didn't see service and didn't exist in WW2 doesn't mean it isn't the culmination of WW2 tech. Everything from the receiver which was initially milled and then went to a stamping screams WW2 tech. Why would they swap from the milled receiver to stamped? Because they learned in WW2 it is way, way easier to mass produce metal stampings than it is to mill them. Why a piston? Because they learned how effective that mechanism was from the M1 Garand which the soviets actually had quite a few of due to lend lease. Why the shortened rifle cartridge? Because they realized most combat was taking place within 300m and usually substantially less than that. It's the culmination of WW2 small arms design philosophy but it didn't come out until after the war was over. They continued on with the design even though the war was over because at the time pretty much everyone assumed world war 3 was imminent. There isn't one single aspect of the AKs design that would've been out of place in WW2 or impossible to manufacture in 1944. Not one single thing.
Had mine almost 20 years. They work. They keep working. What else do you want BTW mag compatibility is, sort of, individual to each WASR. Bulgarian ones hold tight in mine and some others have some rock but still function. And one wont fit in at all. I can see why but too lazy to get out the dremel when there are a whole stack of others to use.
The WASR's were worth it about 15 years ago, when they were $350 and ammo was cheap, but the sourced parts, (Romanian), are generally low quality by Euro standards and the CIA remanufacturing job has never been good. Still, they usually work. If it were me, I'd lean towards Arsenal for more traditional AKs, if you're open to spending $1k+, Riley if you don't want to spend as much, and Krebs if you want small batch refined specimens at a premium. Arsenal and Krebs have studied under professionals, (Arsenal 10 of Bulgaria and the late M. Kalashnikov, respectively), and Riley's reputation is improving. There are also smiths and custom builders that focus on parts reassembly, but the reality is that American AK manufacturers/remanufacturers don't usually have the experience or qualifications to make good AKs, and those that do have to contend with stupid regulations forcing them to completely rebuild sporting weapons, which can be complicated. Combine that with most factories sourcing bulk parts of questionable quality or being contracted out to arm militaries, and AKs of quality are uncommon and expensive. A used WASR, that works, at ~$500 is a steal, these days. Usually if any upgrades are desired, it's a stock replacement that enabled folding, and a railed top cover that holds zero.
Psa gf3 forged trunion and all the internals are for most part love mine very accurate in od green and makes me feel like a bad ass when shooting the beast
AK triggers really aren’t that bad at all. Never understood what anyone was talking about when they hate on the AK trigger. If you have good fundamentals it’ll be just fine, just like a Glock trigger
Same mine is touchy asf and I can slap the gun off my palm or against my shoulder to rack the chamber shut ammo is pricey like anything else but if you do your research you can find a bargain every blue moon just stick pile and feed em what they like
This doesn’t surprise me. My first semi auto rifle was a wasr 10 bought in 1999 I think . I had a documented 30k rounds through it when I sold it . Of course that was back when a case of ammo was like 80$
Wasr 10 is the go to entry level for 7.62 aks. Please tell hop, brassfacts, and mr beast that. 2nd for other caliber aks the polish wbp line has been very reliable and solid from all accounts for similar price to a wasr but with 5.56, 5.45, and 7.62 caliber options. Polish beryls are nice to but thats another 500 dollars to your total price. As for your safety with it being stiff you need to remove the dust cover, recoil spring, and bolt/carrier and literally you pull it away from the receiver. Allows you to use one finger and less pressure to manipulate it. Its a leaf spring so dont be shy you wont break nothing.
Hard to believe that a wasr sells for $1k. Times have changed. I have a few different AK style models but the wasr is one that I would have no hesitation to grab if truly the shtf… I have a couple of the boutique models but the wasr is lighter and less fancy.
You may like an RS Regulate side mount. They are one of the best for the AK. Very low, modular mount. The WBP in 7.62x39 is a nice rifle. Standard AKM. If you do add on a suppressor, the KNS adjustable gas piston is a great/needed addition.
Over 20 years ago, when I was looking to get an AKM, because they were cheap back then ($300), the most common ones available IIRC were WASR10 and SAR-1. I ended up going with the SAR-1 but I know I would've been happy with a WASR10. As for my SAR-1, it came with a mean trigger slap but I finally fixed that with a replacement from ALG. It's buttery smooth and was inexpensive. I replaced the wood furniture with Magpul in the hopes the of making it a tad lighter and that the forend furniture would enable cooling a bit better. Yes, it's a little lighter now and as for heat, it still gets plenty hot after 4 or 5 mags. There's no muzzle device on mine but maybe that's something a gunsmith can alter as there's no threads. I tried using a Kobra red dot over a decade ago IIRC but it broke and I've never tried putting a red dot on it since. Ammo, the Russian steel cased stuff, used to be cheap but since the ammo ban, it's cheaper to shoot my AR now which is probably part of why 5.56NATO AKs are becoming popular now.
There's just something about AKs that makes range day a little more special. I know, because the internet says so, I'm not supposed to like my PSA GF3, because it's eventually going to explode. I'm around 5k rounds in, been using and abusing it for three years, so, if it does eventually die on me, I'll warranty it and maybe save up for a WASR-10, so I can have my fun rifle, and my Reddit-AK-Austists approved AK. Though, if they see me with a WASR-10, they'll say I should have gotten a Zastava, and if I show up with a Zastava, they'll say I sold have gotten a Romanian WASR. Cause we all know. If Reddit doesn't approve of your rifle, you're probably still bathing with your mom. I think that's how the saying goes.

Still crazy stiff to the point where the gun isn't useful for practical shooting or even hunting. Requires me to push on it about as hard as I can push with a finger, and makes a loud "CLUNK" as soon as I put the weapon on fire.....
@@Wecanslide_HSW I've tried to bend it by just turning the safety up 90° in the receiver and pushing it out but it got to the point where I was pushing on it really hard and it wasn't bending, didn't want to just full send with all the force. I think I remember it popped out of the retainer while I was putting force on it and didn't bend and I gave up....Any recommendations? Do I need a vice for this or use tools or heat?
