    Dance is :
    One of the hardest sports
    One of the most expensive sports
    One of the most time and effort consuming sports
    One of the most underrated sports

    • @MD-722
      @MD-722 4 года назад +26

      Except dance is not a sport, it's an art. Sport is objective whereas dance is not, and if dance were to be a sport it would be an artistic-sport like gymnastics; figure skating; diving and even dancesport. But all of those are sports because they have a Codes of Points, standardised scoring system and composition/compulsory/technical requirements to be fulfilled in each exercise (the objective aspect). Dance competitions do not have this; not even the Prix de Lausanne. Artistic-sports are sports because they artistic performance that are scored and judged under a sport-format. Dance competitions might have competitive formats, but not sporting ones.
      Yes dance is a physically taxing activity, but that is not what makes a sport a sport. If that were to be the case a sport would only be considered a sport once it is _hard enough_ which again is simply not so. Football, whether it's an under 5s after-school club , recreational game in the park or the World Cup is never not a sport. Likewise with rugby, tennis, netball, and so on.
      Dance is definitely underrated, I will agree 100% with you on that; although that's more the dance-world's fault than anyone else's. But unless it is being competed under an official sport-format, then dance is not a sport. Because even in sports like figure skating etc you have amateur skating, which is the term used for competitive (sport) skating even up to the Olympic level, and professional skating which is the term used for galas, exhibitions and ice-shows e.g. The Nutcracker/Swan Lake-on-ice etc, which is not sport nor even considered to be.

    • @Drachenschnauze
      @Drachenschnauze 4 года назад +39

      @@MD-722 competitive dancing is a sport, you have movements defining the sport, you have a certain infrastructure around the world and certain criteria you can objectively judge. Is the technique done right? Is the dancer on the music, does he/she know the backround of the performance, and yes you can see that in the technique just as well as in martial arts (purpose of the technique). And by the way, no judgement call is clearly objective, an example is Tul in Taekwondo.

    • @melindawang8568
      @melindawang8568 4 года назад +5

      Yes but despite of this, high schoolers walk by my studio everyday mocking dancers with that pose that all you guys know and I don’t need to explain. But the funny thing is, they think that’s the only thing in ballet tippy toes and hands above heads. But it’s not. I really had the urge to open the door, drag them in, shove pointe shoes on their feet, and make them dance. Ugh so annoying. My teacher calls them the annoying youths.

    • @MD-722
      @MD-722 3 года назад +1

      @@Drachenschnauze Sorry for this 2-month-late reply, but to re-iterate my point again, competitve dancing is not a sport, it is just competitive dancing because as stated above it lacks a sport-format. The only type of competitive dance that has one is Dancesport, but that only encompasses ballroom styles at present.
      Also one of the key aspects your argument fails to address is that there is no industry-wide standard for scoring in competitive dance, and both the maximum number of possible points and maximum score depend on the company that produces the competition. Meaning that even the scoring system is neither standardised nor objective. Thus as a result some competitions may favour leaps and jumps; others turns; others artistry; others technique; some costumes and so on.
      Then there is the fact that competitive dance doesn't even have a national governing body, let alone an international one like the IDSF or WDC (Dancesport); FIG (Gymnastics); ISU (figure skating) etc. Which is why competitive dance also lacks a code of points--the core common denominator in all artistic-sports which is most notably how skills and their values are determined.
      So in conclusion, once more--competitive dance is just that, competitive dance. It is a competitive activity, not a sport. As it is not competed under a sport-format and competition is not the sole determining factor in defining what sport is.

Being a dancer requires such a hard training for years, and not only the athletic part of it, but also making the movements look effortless and the details of every single step and position is so important to improve the technique. Such a nice video showing a bit of the ballet training

    loved the video! i’m in a professional ballet company, and it made me really happy that you enjoyed ballet 💕 by the way the term “en croix” means “in the shape of a cross.” This is because when you do tendus to the front, side, back, and side, it forms a cross pattern. Hope this helped, you are so inspiring 🥰

    I saw the full recording of Alice in Wonderland that he was in, it was spectacular! I loved him in it, and I loved seeing him as a teacher. I low-key wish he had a ballet YT channel. You did great too, it's obvious that you're a beginner, but you still did really good and you can tell that you have a nice base for doing more of it, if you wanted to(not saying professionally, but just more than a one-time thing- it's still great doing it as an adult, it's always very rewarding because it's so hard, both physically and mentally)
