I have been a victim of anxiety for a long time but it is beatable.
My learnings - I was biased towards negativity. One bad thought is like a seed that can grow in the day. You can forget it then, bam, it is in your whole being. Positive thoughts have the same power. Dont think they dont! Even if you can't think of anything, throw out some seed bombs - happy, health, joy, hope, future. Even if you may not feel it, they are planting and growing in your soul like the negative ones. Death of negativity, by a thousand cuts. Don't give up people. We can retrain our brains

Thank you, this is another tool that is useful. I am 69 YO & have told myself these negative words all my life. I do have moments where I can reel myself back to positive thoughts but, negativity is the default position.

2:41 THINK Before speaking ask yourself is it
    True
    Helpful
    Inspiring
    Necessary
    Kind
The original is inspired by Buddhist philosophy but does not include the H for helpful nor the I for inspire. Often referred to as the "three gateways" - True Necessary and Kind - through which one should pass before speaking. Apparently indications for "right or proper" speech in the Buddhist tradition actually include four or five portals. However this True/Necessary/Kind one is often quoted and easily resonates. Adding the "H" and the "I" enables the acronym. I appreciated the idea of applying this to myself ..not only in communciation with others! Thanks

When on my own I can pass very long periods of wallowing/romanticising over depressing thoughts.
I'm 56 now and perhaps it has become an impulse thinking.
The problem is that I seem to enjoy these miserable epic dreams/thoughts.
Within them I just want them to continue and continue - and I don't want a positive thought to come in and spoil the party.
These thoughts make for a horrible soulless way of living

This was invented by Rishi Raman Maharshi. 100's, ....1000's of west people have made him mentor. Raman remain silent for 11 years in cave. He taught to stop your thoughts by asking. Who am i? what will be my next thought? Are my thought useful? where are my thoughts taking me?

  • @irun2day1
    @irun2day1 3 года назад +4

I just decided that if there’s an afterlife, being Jewish I don’t believe there is, but if per chance I
return and choose new parents, I’m going to see if you and Stefanie will raise me!
I probably will regret sending this after sharing that thought here, but I’ve found humor to be helpful in my life oftentimes bringing lightness, brightness and laughter in the moment.
    Jokes aside!
I actually loved this short video with the acronym THINK, for a few reasons.
Your explanation was clear and concise.
Unfortunately these days it doesn’t take much to make my head spin and my heart feel like it’s been hit by an arrow.
I habitually judge myself harshly. I am guessing that combination alone can affect the brain and capacity to think clearly.
So when I tell myself, I’m a mess and can’t do anything right. I tend to follow that thought with another thought to support the 1st one, kind of like a dog following a scent. I think that’s where I live a lot of the time. So it’s no wonder I’ve struggled with anxiety and depression a good part of my life..
Even when I’m feeling “fine” I think there is an undercurrent of stress that is always there, ready to be triggered by my thoughts. I would say even more so, than an actual event taking place giving rise with good reason for anxiety or causing one to feel depressed.
But back to the acronym. After going over the exercise, for me I found a moment of levity as you first went to grab the actual piece of paper with the letter on it with your dog by you side. Suddenly I’m chuckling and smiling! The saying, where your attention goes, energy flows. Let’s hear it for levity! So in that moment, my attention went from the letter T thinking what a mess I am which immediately triggered sadness. But by asking myself is it a fact? I was able to transform my predictable answer to heck NO! I am not a mess!
Clearly I have too much time on my hands and my comment was a long way of letting you know, that I personally found your presentation not just helpful but also entertaining!
    Thanks for sharing and caring.

I hope many people get to read what you wrote here to see what it looks like to move through it all and come out the other end not only with insight, but with a bit of entertainment too ;).

irrelevant. my mind simply goes from one negative thought to the next constantly. Every bad thing that’s ever happened to me every bad thing that is happening to me and every bad thing that could possibly happen to me… reliving all of the things other people did to me etc… if I try to think of puppies my mind searches for all the negative associations such as all the ones I saw ran over or watched die. There is nothing positive and peaceful that I can try to think of that my mind does not find the negative association

Hey Peter, no piece of instruction is for everyone. In other words, there's no one size fits all. However, the idea with anything you hear is to try it with a sense of curiosity and you might need to adjust as needed. If it's not supportive, leave it and play with something else.
