I just passed you on 604 going into troutville!!! So awesome to see you out in public finally. Love your videos and I still have yet to catch my first muskie.
I don't know where yall are fishing in this video, but in 1968, my dad caught a musky in Smith Mountain Lake that held the state record for 3 years. I caught a citation perch in the upper James a few years ago. It always loved fishing, but haven't been in a few years. I'm disabled and it would probably be problematic. Great video! I don't know these gentlemen's names, but my dad traveled all over the state fishing and hunting. I wouldn't be at all surprised if y'all had crossed paths at some time. Thanks for sharing! I'm subscribing to your channel. Stay safe! Tight lines! 🦋Janet English🐞
@@BlueRidgeMusky I would actually love to do a trip. I haven’t ever actually chased the old tooth missile. How far away from the Fredricksberg area would I need to plan for?
I've been fishing for a really long time for bass and pike but I want to get into muskie fishing. Any advice on choosing and buying a rod and reel for under CAD$300 that would be good for muskie?
Well 300$ CaD is not a lot of a good musky setup unfortunately this stuff is expensive. I would recommend looking at local shops and with local Anglers or in the classifieds for a good used setup in your price range . Make sure you outfit it with 80lb braid and a strong predator leader .
Try a shield rod from the musky shop get the 8’6 or 9’ heavy depending on ur height . They are by far my favorite rod and run about 180 to 220 us$ also I haven’t tried them yet but they just came out with the abu Garcia max 4 for 179 and it looks like a solid musky reel It’s a little over but definitely would be a pretty solid all purpose set up
I wish you Americans would weigh these fish and not measure length.. a fish can weigh way more and be shorter but in theory is the bigger fish due to body mass and it makes more sense but great catch all the same 👍
@@thedude9001 yeah I've seen guys weigh bass.. surely mass is mass is more important.. in the UK we weigh everything and the records are weight not length
Weighing a musky is very dangerous for the musky without the proper tools and even then can lead to mortalities . We measure length in fish like musky to protect the fish while still getting a baseline of their size to compare with our other catches . The only good method of weighing musky requires a large cradle net and a very large and sturdy scale . And even then you’ve got the fish out of the water for long periods thrashing against its own body weight in the cradle . Not good for the fish , especially if you do that with every big fish your catching … a nylon bump board is quick and safe and doesn’t remove any slime from the fishes protective coating 👌🏻
@@BlueRidgeMusky it's really not.. we weigh carp and catfish to bigger weights than a musky because length means nothing really as far as a bigger fish is concerned.. We use slings that are more than suitable for the job
@@BlueRidgeMuskyI live in MN so your Muskies in VA are fish that I’ll never even have the opportunity of catching but it actually means a lot to me the care you have for these fish and I respect the hell out of you for that. Good work man!
so nice to see a guide actually guiding and not fishing.. love it..
Thanks 🙏
Yeah that drive me nuts, I can't tell you how many monsters I've seen clients net for the guide...Hats off to this Guide
