That bracket is for the bagger Henry
Those type of fuel systems are prone to losing their fuel prime. Compressed air in the gas tank will work initially to prime the system. The one I fixed for my Son in law I installed a boat tank pressure bulb between the engine and the battery. A few squeezes and it will start right up after sitting all winter. That fix I learned from 65Ford on RUclips.

I’m fairly certain that the bracket is there to protect the fuel tank a bagger system buddy.

@@MowersNBlowers those usually come in some kind of a basket form. But, I catch your drift.
Something clanking.... the dual pulley or the flywheel. With the oversize pulley those blades may break the sound barrier at the tips. There may be a Federal regulation about blade tip speed.

The tube in the gas tank on the LT model John Deeres usually snap off or leak when full due to a bad seal. A 20 minute repair and a 10 dollar part!

That metal cover protects the gas tank when backing up or towing. Ask me how I know!! Lots of LT tractors in the family here!! Those Kohler engines usually don't break easy. Severe abuse!!
You could have ground down the nub on the bottom of the double stacked pulley. Also I am still not sure you chose the right route with swapping the whole engine over you probably could have just swapped the top sump cover and fly wheel/stator. I had one that was sized and it was just the magnets broke off and cutting into the stator.

I don't know. I like John Deeres, but I ain't feeling this one. Hopefully you already sold it because I ain't getting good vibes on this one.
