I love videos like this that put different bikes head to head to determine which gives the best value! I have to disagree on your first selection though. The rift zone 1 is leagues behind the polygon T7. The Marin has worse wheels, unacceptably poor brakes, no dropper post, lower quality suspension, lower spec drivetrain and worst of all a quick release rear axle. The Marin is going to need upgraded brakes ($150-250) and a dropper post ($150-250) right away by anyone except the most inexperienced riders. The T7 is head and shoulders above any bike in its price range, which is why I bought one for my kid when it was on sale for $1730 CAD last Fall.
Glad you liked the video! Yeah, you’ll always get a better spec on a D2C company like Polygon or YT, but like we said in the video we chose the Marin for our lowest price category because there’s a good chance this will be someone’s first bike, and having the support from the local bike shop where you bought it is pretty helpful for beginners!
@@99spokes Good point about a beginner using a local shop, but you could get a LOT of service done to a Polygon for the cost to make all the upgrades I mentioned on the T7. In Canada the Polygon is sold through a local retailer so not an deciding factor here.

I'll use it for bombing around town and some light trails around me. Im not doing anything too crazy so I just want a dual suspension with decent parts
Wow, that’s a killer deal! There’s a relatively big upgrade in brakes, suspension, and drivetrain on the 8, but that’s not to say that there are any issues with the 7. Here’s the two compared on our website: 99spokes.com/compare?bikes=trek-top-fuel-7-2023%2Ctrek-top-fuel-8-xt-2024

As of the making of this video, in the 2k - 3k price range Giant is selling the Trance X 29 1 for $2850. That comes with a Fox rear shock and a Fox 36 fork. Also comes with Shimano SLX drivetrain. You would be an absolute fool to take the YT over that, the Fezzari and Canyon runners-up don’t compare either. I get so sick and tired of seeing DTC trash always being featured in these videos. Must be paid advertising. Makes no sense any other way. In the 3k - 5k category, picking any alloy bike over the numerous carbon choices out there in this current state of reduced/sale price the industry is in is just confusing. And the runners-up are all alloy too. Again, very confusing. You completely lost me by naming a Specialized at the top of the 8k+ category. Naming a Switchblade as runner up? Really? No mention of Evil. No mention of Revel. Santa Cruz and Rocky Mountain? Literally the most predictable and uninspired video I’ve watched in a while. I’m not trying to be a douche, this is just so bad. It’s hard to take anything in this video seriously after that.
That's about the entry point for a new full suspension bike, but you can get in on the used market for way less! Check out our $500 MTB challenge here! ruclips.net/video/TgXgPjR2Ak8/видео.html
Dont say "any budget" when there isnt even a sub 1k option. Which kind of college student can be comfortable spending 1600$ for a bike or does low budget not fall under "any budget" anymore? You could buy 8 regular bikes at the price of a "budget" trail bike. Ridiculous.
That's about as low as you can expect to pay for a reliable full suspension trail bike, but there's other ways to get into the sport! We're working on a $500 used MTB challenge right now, which will go live later this month!
If you're just riding around campus you don't need a mountain bike. If you can't afford these bikes you probably can't afford the gas to haul them to a fun spot anyway.

I'll get it in a few days. Can't wait for it 😁
Do you guys know that Marin is owned by Polygon.
Jeffsy let down by the drivetrain.
You're not wrong haha, but throw a GX derailleur and shifter on there and you're good to go!
Bro i dont rly need droper i can adjust seat my self its not that hard
You say that until you try one haha, game changing!
Trek ful ex
POLYGON T8
Is it fast in the flats if you were forced to commute or cruise around town? I get that it's a trail bike but I might wanna look into an xc bike
Cheers! Love to see your take, anyone is welcome to make and post a video to RUclips whenever they like 🤙
In your opinion which Trail bike would be the best in the 2K-3K range? and what to look for when choosing a trail bike?
Any Budget! but starts from $1700 lol bruh
That's about the entry point for a new full suspension bike, but you can get in on the used market for way less! Check out our $500 MTB challenge here! ruclips.net/video/TgXgPjR2Ak8/видео.html
An Evil bike is so much better than the trans bike.
Which Evil would you take?
I owned a evil offering v2, transition sentinel & now a Forbidden Druid v2 & agree. My order would be Forbidden > Evil > Transition.
Dont say "any budget" when there isnt even a sub 1k option. Which kind of college student can be comfortable spending 1600$ for a bike or does low budget not fall under "any budget" anymore? You could buy 8 regular bikes at the price of a "budget" trail bike. Ridiculous.
You don’t get a real mountain bike under 1000 unless it’s a first bike and that not this guys audience.
@@Neuron429 my point still stands. Also this guy's audience is everybody that wants to ride a bike, which includes not wealthy people...
@@mAny_oThERSsit’s not for everyone who wants a bike but Walmart has a lot of mountain bikes with a bunch of reviews
29 is so lame unless you’re over 6’ tall.
To each their own! It’s greater have so many options!
@@99spokes it’s for sure great to options! But what about the small riders? Only 29ers were in this list, so where are the so many options?
I hate 29ers and will never ever buy one. I'm not keen on mullet either tbh, but would buy a mullet if there was no other option. 29er no chance.
@@MTNMAX88 To each his own... I'm a 5'10" converted roadie who has no interest in getting air or playing around/jibbing down the trail, but is interested in super long rides covering as much ground as efficiently as possible, so 29ers are king to me and I'll never go back to 27.5.
The Marin Riftzone 2 has been awsome for a season and a half so far. I had to upgrade the tires right off the bat, and eventually upgrade
the breaks, but it send's hard🤙
Nice!! Glad you’ve been enjoying it!
Absolutely love my Rift Zone
hi
What about Santa Cruz 5010 ?
Awesome bike!!
