LEG DAY Workout with Dumbbells | Complex Series - Day 1

  • Leg day! Let’s do this!! Dumbbell & bodyweight combined for a challenge! Complexes to work through at your own pace! Every muscle in your lower body will be working very hard!
    For this workout you will need a pair of dumbbells, a mat and optional is a yoga block/thick book/ stepper to deepen the range of movement in lunges and to elevate heels during squats to target quads even more but this is not necessary.
    The dumbbells I am using for your reference are 12.5kg each.
    The timer will be set for 3 minutes per complex with 30 seconds rest between each complex!
    1 1/2 REP SQUAT x10
    1 1/2 REP RDL x10
    STATIC LUNGE x20
    B/W PULSES (same side) x20
    STATIC LUNGE x20
    B/W PULSES (same side) x20
    ELEVATED SQUAT x10
    CALF RAISE x10
    CALF PULSES x20
    LATERAL LUNGE x10
    CURTSEY LUNGE (same side) x10
    LATERAL LUNGE x10
    CURTSEY LUNGE (same side) x10
    1/2 REP STAGGERED SQUAT x20
    1/2 REP STAGGERED RDL x20 (same side)
    1/2 REP STAGGERED SQUAT x20
    1/2 REP STAGGERED RDL x20 (same side)
    HAMSTRING LIFT x15
    HAMSTRING WALK x15
    Finisher:
    Last complex!
    HEEL ELEV B/W 1/2 REP SQUAT x20
    SQUAT WALK x20 (any direction) x20
    I love the combination of dumbbell & bodyweight as we sometimes sigh with relief when we know it’s bodyweight only but yet it doesn’t necessarily mean any easier!
    Remember... go at your own pace! If you see me pause, you keep going! But don’t cut corners... stop when you feel you can’t perform it the way you want!
    I LOVED this leg day! My quads, hamstrings and glutes felt every bit of this and had to work really hard!

    I was not having a good day today. Halfway through this workout, I actually sat down crying. But I still got through the entire workout. I may not have done my absolute best; I may not have done every rep perfectly (or every rep, period), but I'm still proud of myself for getting through the whole video.

    Wow. I finished epic 2 a week ago and I cant believe the progression. I decided to do all the full body and hiit in both epics. In the beginning every full body session I was out of breath most of the time. The first time I did the full body with 12 kg. Now I repeated it with 15 kg and it felt like a very low intensity cardio as far as my breath. The makers were easy to perform. I remember doing the pushups on my hand and not on the dumbells. Every workout is a progression. You programmed everything so great. Don't hold back on the lunges.

    After completing EPIC HEAT and taking one day off, I was so excited to jump into these complexes, however I started with the second one the upper body, THEN today was up to KILLING my legs haha. I had to pause several times, thank goodness I can just start/stop with my apple earphones, and there was a LOT of hot breathing and sweat happening. But I DID this - I continually amaze myself. THANK YOU, Caroline, looking forward to picking up the following three days. I am totally addicted (in the best sense of the word) to your instruction which wrings out every SINGLE bit of my capabilities. ALWAYS sincere thanks for YOU! Blessings from Canada!

    Thank you Caroline! I have a suggestion for you: a full week of workouts using only resistance bands. That would be very useful for people who are travelling, or don't have access to dumbbells

      Hi Hannah...I so much agree with this! I just love working with resistance bands and it would be a great series to keep for weeks when travelling. Caroline has a lot of great resistance band workouts...but a week's series would be great! Brilliant suggestion...thank you for making it! Matthew

      honestly...in the last half of the workout I literally bent over and felt a bit nauseous like I was gonna vomit/pass out hehe 😅 but I took a 1min breather and kept going

    Damn I still have 27 days of EPIC 2 to complete before I do this, but the fact that this makes me excited to keep working out even after completing Epic is what blows my mind.
    Because I usually used to be in the '10 day get shredded' type of of mindset. Thank you Caroline 😊

    40 minute is the perfect amount of time not too short and not too long. This is probably a personal preference, but I feel like I get unmotivated and start looking at the clock during 1 hour workouts and then feel like it wasn’t as effective so love this length! And I’m so happy to see Caroline back this made my day I’m so excited to do this tomorrow!

    This one ended up being more of a mental workout than a leg workout 😟 My body didn’t have much to give today. Was it the break i took this week? Was it because I got to love the 30min of HEAT and this one felt long? Was it just one of those days? Regardless, I DIDNT STOP! (no matter how many times I felt like it). I first slowed down, then gave up on the weights and did only BW, then took longer breaks. But I stayed to the end. It was so nice to have you back Caroline 😘

      @@kwarkoocoxs2153 I’ve always been a gym rat before Covid… after Covid started I found CG and did all three of her Epic Series, kettlebell series, and other workouts she has… each time I took time to give my muscles a break so my body can get stronger for what’s next…
      Two leg days in a row is not good for you (give your legs at least 48 hours to rest and then do another leg day 😊😊)… this will help avoid injury.

      @@triciam4798You are right. Two days in a row isn’t a great idea. I am doing them back to back, all today making it a 1h 1/2 workout. I have increased my weights to 2x25kg. Hopefully that will be challenging enough.

    I was equally terrified and excited when I saw this workout this morning! Terrified because I find complex workouts so difficult but excited because I know the higher the difficulty the greater strength and growth I will get from the workout.     It took me an hour and a half to finish this as I get lightheaded in this rainy day of our country and I don't know why maybe because my body got shock after a week of rest and I do complex right after and it has a lot of interruption but I managed to finish this one! This was tough really I am really hesistant to finish this but I made it. It's the mindset that really pushes you. Thanks Caroline! This is indeed a challenge. ❤

    Went light (5lbs) on this for 2 reasons: to spare my elbow tendinitis & regress to progress. It allowed me to concentrate on form and mind body connection. This workout hit the legs deep inside and believe me even with min weights your heart will pump and you'll work up a sweat!!

    recently finished epic II, i decided to smash this complex series, and this first session was one of the absolutely most difficult i've ever done!! I actually say this with every new leg workout i do :D but anyway i'm loving the complex concept, it pushes my limits phisically and mentally! i'm looking forwars for tomorrow's upper body

    I did most of this session with 7.5 kgs. But had to drop to 5 kgs cos of the staggered squats round, which BTW made me question so many things in life 😁
    Loved the workout. I was kinda missing the long-ish sessions and so did two hour long workouts the last week. I was thrilled to see the community update for this series. Thank You, Caroline!

    At min 8 I was thinking: "I'm going to stop, this is so hard" but then I insisted, knowing I would feel better if I finished the workout.
    I even teared up a bit at the end and that caught me by surprise. I guess it was just the cheer happiness of having done it, that sense of accomplishment intensified by the difficulty it had. And seeing Caroline dropping to the ground from the effort, crawling on all fours and then smiling to the camera, clapping and giving two thumbs up.

    I consider myself a pretty fit person. I work out every day and this was really really hard.!!! I had to pause it and take a little bit longer than 30 seconds between reps and it humbled me, but I really enjoyed the workout and I’m saving it to do it again.

      Hi Nicola...yes you are so correct...like epic heat but an extra 30%!! I thought it was hard but fun to do as well...and the time flew by as it always does when I do complexes! Did the abs add on at the end which I enjoyed too! Almost non-stop rain here at the moment...unusual that the SE of England seems to be the rainiest part of the UK over the past few days.     OMG!!! I have NEVER had so much sweat coming off of me. I had to stop quite a few times but also used my 25's LB instead of my 20's so it was very tough for me. You NEVER disappoint Caroline!!! You are the QUEEN!!!

    I still wouldn't say training legs was top of my list of favourites and add to that training legs with complexes, however you know what I do now enjoy it. No pushing the weight up today , done too many Caroline Leg Complexes to try and be superman. So 12.5kgs slow and steady, going deep when required and kept going to the final beep. So many in the past have failed trying to get me to love leg days but I do actual believe Caroline you have cracked it. 😁 I will be sore tomorrow, but to quote a line from an EPIC Heat into "thats good" 🤣🤣🤣😉 See ya all tomorrow for Upperbody 😍

      Hi Anthony...so glad you enjoyed doing this! I really enjoy complexes...I find I can lose myself in the exercise and the time flies by. This was challenging but fun to do as well. I used 2 x 8 kg and my 12 kg kettlebell for single weight exercises so the half rep staggered squats and RDLs were tough!! Had a bit of energy left at the end so did the abs add on which I loved! Tomorrow’s workout looks perfect for you. Hope you have fun! Have a great evening! Matthew
