This has been one of the best aviation videos I have watched, not just on RUclips, but anywhere. I learned a lot of things I never knew, like the automated traffic control. He gets a flashing light, checks the message, responds, and that's it. No chatter cluttering up the airwaves. Brilliant. I never knew that existed. Thank you!
Just an incredible, engaging video to watch. I can't stop watching them! This is my eighth one in a row. I never knew that they could communicate with ATC without talking to them. That would definitely clear up a lot of chatter and keep the channel open for emergencies or high priority messages. Something as routine as climb and maintain being handled by texting is brilliant.
Fantastic! Thank you for producing and posting... I have health issues and can't sleep many nights, you have really helped by giving me such wonderful vicarious flight time... I pray for the day I can return to the cockpit, until then I can ride jump seat with you!
I have flown with SAS round trip on that route or RT Newark to Copenhagen many times! SAS is my favorite airline. It’s also my childhood airline. I was born in Sweden but raised in the United States.
Pretty nice! I have lived in the United States for about 30 years now (all American!) but I was born in Sweden. I have flown in and out of Stockholm Arlanda quite a few times with SAS! Great video!
Nice! I am in my native country of Sweden right now (visiting from the US). We flew on SAS into Copenhagen (KCPH) out of Newark (KEWR). We are returning to the US in about 9 days.
that is indicated airspeed, it's acquired via pitot tubes (they measure air pressure, then converted in speed). At that altitude air isn't very dense, so the pressure reading is low, consequently the indicated airspeed is low. In fact if you refer to a cruise speed you name it in MACH number (your speed related to the speed of sound, it's not visible in that shot of the PFD, but it's there trust me).
I love your videos and think you should present your videos to Discovery / Travel Channel. I for one think this would make a great weekly show and I would watch.
Loved it and sas a330-300s are way fuel efficient than UA B757-200s on EWR-ARN/CPH/OSL since the A330-300 is built to fly the Atlantic in high winds as opposed to the B757-200 because the A330 fuel tank is bigger than the pmco B757-200 tatl fuel tank and doesn't need emergency diversion for fuel
@gsadvanced I agree and I would watch it too but I think this is quite a specialised programme that wouldn't gain that many viewers compared to their other programs. RUclips is the perfect setting for it though.
I would have serious issues operating a sidestick with my left hand. Does the captain have the option of sitting on the right side so that he can fly with his right hand?
I always thought it would be hard to be a right handed captain and fly manually with a left handed joystick. I like airbus flight decks, but I wonder if pilots prefer a yoke.
Hello Justplanes! I love your videos and I was wondering if you can soon make a video about SAS A340-300. Perhaps you can make a video about SAS's new route between Copenhagen and Shanghai? :D
@gsadvanced The only problem is that many of the TV channels would "fluff" it up or try to make it more dramatic in order to appeal to a broader audience. Those of us that have a true interest in the mechanics of aviation would be disappointed.
Hi! I enjoy watching these a 330 -videos, it's my fovourite plane right after MD-11 ;) As a finnish guy I'm minded to know that is there a possibility that you would one day make a DVD/Blu ray -video of Finnair' s a330 trip to some asian destination? Thanks
I would like to ask you how, after September 11th, you were allowed to film this? Are you a crew member? I really enjoyed this video (landing or no landing!)
oberhaensli1 I know it's a old comment but they were just demonstrating the change from QNH to inches and you can't do that if the altimeter is set to STD, however it should still be set to 1013/29.92 to avoid the autopilot to make altitude adjustments but I guess it's not that much of a big deal since they most likely set it to STD after the demonstration.
Didn't take away the landing... its on the program... The program is more than 4 hours long... this video is only 10mins so can only show a little bit here...
Hey JustPlanes! Great video! Just like ASENEBS281294 I would really love and reccommend you to work out a SAS A340-300 video from Copenhagen to Shanghai or any of it's other destinations - I for sure would buy it! ;)

very very humble , polite , kind heart pilots and the crews. may god bless you all.

Haha I recognize that controllers voice at 6:54. I'm based in EWR, he still works NY Approach.

Very well done. The repertoire between the pilots is very engaging. I should be flying.

5:52 The first time ever plane drag race. Btw I love you JustPlanes! The only way to keep myself entertained is to watch your channel.
We can't show everything here but you'll find it all and much much more on the DVD
Yes, they catch the following return flight which is the next evening.
I love your videos and think you should present your videos to Discovery / Travel Channel. I for one think this would make a great weekly show and I would watch.
Airbus Technology rocks....and the European Pilots are so smart...
You can click on the link in the description and find out all details about this program, its a DVD.

I loved this, it really educates you on flying, and I for one feel safer. Michele
Great video. Appreciate seeing how the Data link functions.
Squawk is a term used by ATC to give information of a transpondercode ex. Squawk 7113, and then the pilot has to change the transponder to 7113.
haha " It says Alarm here, but thats nothing serious, its just that we're running out of paper"
ingojaganjac so laid back 😀
Thank you for a detailed wonderful image.
Remember, 250 knots on ground level, and 250 knots at 40.000ft is far from the same ;)
@gsadvanced I agree and I would watch it too but I think this is quite a specialised programme that wouldn't gain that many viewers compared to their other programs. RUclips is the perfect setting for it though.
awesome videos, love them all
Hi! such a great video! but one question.. if they do a flight like that, do they stay some time at the destination?
Yay SAS!! :D Thank you for posting.
Hello Justplanes! Nice video, I have a question: Do pilots use ILS Approach while landing in daylight without any bad weather?
Hopefully one day :)
i live in central new jersey and sometimes if i am lucky i will see this plane over my house in the star alliance livery!
Really cool and fun video, thanks Just Planes.
Very welcome :)
Hello... there's a dozen of us working at JP... that includes 5 who film

Good tip on tying shoes. I am surprised they don't wear loafers.
Très beau.Belle explication.Merci.Amitiés.Yvon
a330-300 was my fav plane befor i ride the a380 :)
Nice one, really enjoyed it :D
Lovely video
Maybe a stupid question... Do you film everything yourself, or do people work for you?
Thats indicated airspeed, ground speed is most likely around 480 kt..
English is pritty easy to learn, speak if you´re a Swede!
He is, i am Swedish :)
When was this recorded?
I flew with a SAS A330-300 in February and they had the same map (2:10) then as on this video.
@Fuzkerendude SAS is a swedish, danish and norwegian airline :)
5:12 Dang that turbulence
"Scandinavian 903 Heavy, Stockholm control, clearance to Newark, Left hand departure out of *** Lima, squawk 1276, QNH 1017 and Yankee is valid"
Yes, I will. Thanks for the answer ;)
Good video, but why didn't you show'd the taxing and takeoff?
Yeah but they won't use the autoland, just set the course and nav radios to use it as a reference.
Christian above like FL250 you don't exactly watch the KTS IAS but the Mach number, because the pressure up there is small ;)
can a pilot listen to music on a long flight?
ok, so at 5:20 why where they starting the left engine first ?
i love this
I would like to ask you how, after September 11th, you were allowed to film this? Are you a crew member? I really enjoyed this video (landing or no landing!)
Haha, "tree tree zero", SAS - the eco friendly airline
Can anyone tell me what's the complete text of the first clearence delivered (0:10)? thanks!
QNH 29.82 at FL330 ???? (QNH 29.92...)
oberhaensli1 Also noticed this...
oberhaensli1 I know it's a old comment but they were just demonstrating the change from QNH to inches and you can't do that if the altimeter is set to STD, however it should still be set to 1013/29.92 to avoid the autopilot to make altitude adjustments but I guess it's not that much of a big deal since they most likely set it to STD after the demonstration.
+VivaLaEmil1 You've to watch the complete video, the PF changes to AP1 to make the demonstration and avoid an altitude change.
Why did they use ATC messages? Why didnt they speak on radio?
What do they mean by "squawk?"
I think you pretty much get used to it during your typerating :-)
@gsadvanced Yeah but the earn their money out of DVD's. Just buy their dvd's.. these are short snippets out of the dvds
Why did you take away the landing??
Didn't take away the landing... its on the program...
The program is more than 4 hours long... this video is only 10mins so can only show a little bit here...
because the radio will not work so well at midle of the ocean
is ist a blueray or a normal DVD ?
4:17 - 4:30 sounds like Bill Clinton.... ;-) Thanks for a great video.
Does that altitude callout of "500" towards the end of the video refer to 500 feet or 500 meters?
feet
Also, do commercial pilots ever do VFR flights?
MegaAirplanelover on a commercial flight in a jet? i seriously doubt that
500 feet
Hey JustPlanes! Great video! Just like ASENEBS281294 I would really love and reccommend you to work out a SAS A340-300 video from Copenhagen to Shanghai or any of it's other destinations - I for sure would buy it! ;)
Ok i will wait for it:-)
Justplanes i want to see a video from Copenhagen to some where in wold. The same like turkish airline from Istanbul to Tokyo:-)
@gsadvanced I second that; I think a lot of people would!!
Cutting the video right before touch down is just wrong man! Otherwise, great vid!
Ok, thanks!
that was not newark where they landed.
we have an caution...we are running out of paper :OO
Heja Sverige!
pls do South African airways
@dhammakaveros Three pronounced as tree is standard in ATC ;)

Très bon vol mais on est resté sur notre soif pour n'avoir pas vu l'atterrissage jusqu'au taxiing vers l'aérogare.
@gsadvanced I agree
@gsadvanced Me too!
Wow
4:10 250 knots at FL400?!?!?!?!
