Thanks man. Calling a flathead screwdriver a phillips head absolutely killed me. But the video was useful AF.
Hello Todd.
Yes, I realized I made that mistake after just watching the video again. The tool to use is a flathead and not Phillips head screw driver. Thanks for commenting.
He said to pry with the flathead and use a phillips to remove
Wanted to say THANK FOR the video. I bought a TRD Pro Grill and followed your instructions. I was a little afraid it was going to be more difficult than the video demonstrated, but it wentsmoothly. Mostly. The clips on the old grille presented a small issue, but got through it. Again, thanks!
Hello Jason Peacock.
You're very welcome, glad the video helped you install your Pro Grill. It's very simple and can be done in very few steps, the Dealership will change you an hour of labor ($95) plus $400 OEM Pro Grill. You saved money by doing it yourself.
Thank you for this simple straight forward video. Helped me a lot to know exactly what to do.
Hello Last Chance.
I really appreciated the positive feedback; I try to keep everything straight to the point and informational. Thank you for commenting.
Thank you! Awesome video. Short, straight forward, and no bs. Much appreciated!
Hello AMAC.
I really appreciate it; the installation is simply. It's a good way to save money and install it yourself. Thank you for commenting.
Mine will be here tomorrow I'm so excited!
Hello Mike Pevine.
I'm excited for you, I hope the install goes well.
Thank you! You had the best install video on RUclips.
Hello Alex.
Thank you for commenting, glad to hear this video helped you. I will be doing more ‘how to videos’ in the future. Next video will be an install of the OEM Toyota Roof Rack.
Perfect explanation everything I needed to know and my grill came off and went back on no problems. Thanks for the great video and nice taco!
Hello John Darnell.
Excellent; I'm glad to hear it. The whole purpose of this channel is to teach people how to do things on their tacomas.
Thank you for the great video! Best one out there. I didn't realize it was that easy. Instead of replacing the grille on my TRD Off Road, I'm going to replace the chrome trim bezel with the black one from a SR.
Hello Mike LeBlanc.
Thank you mike for commenting, I'm glad the video showed you how to replace the bezel trim. If you do not want to buy a new bezel you can always paint the bezel or use plastic dip that temporary. Let me know if you have any other questions.
Great tutorial! Worked like a charm to install mine today. Thanks!
Hello Tekazgtr1894.
Thank you for commenting, I'm glad the video helped you. Good luck with your build.
I absolutely hate that this part has no screws to lock it in place. We have to trust that those clips are secure enough. Great video man. Thanks for your help.
Hello Rowan Films.
The two screws in the middle portion should hold it tight. If the clips are loose on your truck you can have the dealer replace them. I'm glad you liked the video, seems like every car manufacture is trying to replace all metal attachments with plastic attachment points.
Stryker Seattle thanks for the reply. I don’t see two screws for the new grill piece only. And there’s wasn’t anything in the video about screws for JUST the black grill. There’s two for the entire front grill including the white part tho but that’s not what I’m talking about.
Hello @@rowanfilms9367.
I apologize, I misinterpreted your commenting. I thought you were talking about what the grill attaches too (grills crowd), not the actually grill itself. Yes I wish Toyota had two attachments types for the Pro Grill. I broke 4 of the clips on my pro grill and didn't have a problem with it. No rattling or loosens.
Badass. Just got mine installed. I added the raptor lights as well. Good video
Hello Jordan Peele.
Awesome! I never got a chance to install the raptor light but the Pro grill makes the front of the truck look a lot better
Got my pro grill for $129 on Amazon, no reason to pay over $400 at the dealer. Also it does have the mount for the radar.
Have not installed It yet but you made it look easy.
Hello Sojourn Overland.
I'm glad you didn't pay the ridiculous mark up of the dealer, it just does not make sense to me and they'll charge you $100 to install it as well. My 2017 Tacoma do not come with the front sensor but it's extremely easy to install, it's two screws located on the outside of the grill. It's easy to install and uninstall, glad the video showed how easy it is.
Can you send the link to amazon item?
excited for more additions to your truck!
Hello Angelom.
Thanks for commenting on this video as well. This grill was $95 on eBay, I had my doubts but they were all put to rest when I saw the grill. It's a different grade plastic but for less than a 100 dollars it's a good deal.
$95?!?! where on eBay! I got mine from amazon from he same seller on eBay for $165 😩
Hello Angelom.
Originally it was $135, but the shipping company damaged the grill clips (5 in total) so the seller discount it to $95. Although some clips are broken it still functions well, and I zip tied one of the corner that was loose.
Amazing tutorial! Thanks a lot! Love your Tacoma by the way.
Hello Sterling Silver.
Thank you for commenting. Good luck with your build, it's the most affordable modifications that changes the whole front end look on the truck.
This video was helpful, but on my 2016 Off Road there were 4 additional pull-up clips located towards the bottom of the grille, under the flat black plastic piece that runs left to right. Hard to believe it would be different on your 2017 but the entire original grill would not come off until I discovered the additional clips.
Hello Micheal Carubia.
That is hard to believe, I'm glad you were able to get your grill removed. Best of luck with your build.
Drastic improvement.
Hello Tim McLendon.
The Pro Grill changed the front end look for the better. I'm excited to see what Toyota comes out with a new Pro Grill, the 2020 grill looks very nice as well.
Well Done! Thank you for making it look easy.
Hello Dave.
I’m glad I was able to make a video that clearly outlines the procedure of installing a new grill. It is very easy and you shouldn’t pay the dealer to over charge you for the grill install. Good luck with your install.
Hey. When you got your grille, did you have to pop the letters in? Or did it all arrive in one piece? I’m a little torn between all the options, I’m almost tempted to purchase one for $300 just because it seems to have better reviews and looks like it’s all in one piece, plus the sensor situation. We have the 2019.
looks good.
Hello Tony Puntillo.
Thank you for commenting.
Good video but no mention of the 4 push clips at the bottom of the grille!
Hello 94Elantra.
I did mention them at 2:49 but did not show them in the video. Make sure you use needle nose pillars to remove them.
Thank you much.
Hello The TInker Win Prods.
You are very welcome.
What tires and rims are on it?
Any lift or levelling as well... how did you get the wheels to extend past the wheel wells?
Thanks
...looks sweet!
Hello Drumtwo3seven.
In my previous video, I go over my overall set up with wheels, tires and lift. In this video, I had my leveling kit still on. The tires poke out slightly which gives the truck a really good luck. All parts are in the description of that video.

nice sensor trd tacoma
Hello Athao Thao.
Thank you for commenting. Let me know if you have any other questions.
Did you completely remove both wires for the TSS? I’m changing out the emblem today and it requires removing the TSS I’m just worried about water getting it and messing up my truck bad..
Did your truck have that sensor behind the symbol? If so are you using it? If you are how did you hook it to the new grill
Hello Ryan Dickey.
My Tacoma is a 2017, in 2019 Toyota developed the front sensor. It's easy to install it though, it's 2 screws to mount it to the grill.
Great video. Helped me install my Ebay grill on my 07 Tacoma! Thanks!
Hello rpatrick21.
Thank you; I'm glad the video was helpful. Best of luck with your 07 Tacoma.
What happened to the 10 screws on the new Grill??
Hello O. Garcia.
You do not need the 10 screws that you removed from the stock grill / trim, the stock grill attaches to the trim via the screws then the trim attaches to the painted grill nose piece. The TRD Pro grill attaches via clips only due to the fact it replaces the grill and trim piece. Let me know if you have any other questions, save the 10 screws in case you want to reattach the stock grill.
Is that the silver color for the lettering? Or the gray metallic?
Hello Cmatt7 45
The lettering on the TRD Pro grill is a titanium gray "Dark Gray." Let me know if you have any other questions.
Nice rig, how much did you pay for your Fox suspension?
Hello J J Hernandez.
Total Chaos Uppers $675.00
Fox Factory Series Shocks Ext Travel DSC - $1490.00
Fox Factory Series DSC Rears - $990.00
OME Suspension Kit Parts - $105.00
OME Dakar Leaf Pack - $420.00
Let me know if you have any questions, in total I paid $3680.00 for my set up. No charge for shipping or installation, just had to purchase a bigger floor jack and two jack stands. And a random a assortment of tools that I needed.
I’m a Seattle neighbor here, would you kindly send me a link on eBay where you bought this, and would it fit my 2018 Toyota Tacoma TRD off-road
Hello Charles Santos.
I apologize that I did not see your comment. Here is a link to the grill if you have not ordered one already.

I’d love to remove my sensor without the error message on my dash.
Hello Spartan.
Does your front sensor not work correctly? I do not have the front sensor on my 2017.
@@pentzwerks It has gone in a few times to be fixed. I HATE the sensor.
Hello @@spartan8390
I've had my Blind Spot Monitors recalibrated three times due to mud and dirt in the rear bumper. Each time it takes the dealership all day to reset them or replace them. Since my truck will not be in warranty in the next 2,000 miles, I've cleaned my truck every other week so I do not have to have them reset. New cars are incorporating more technology into them; so there are more things to fail.
@@pentzwerks The 2017 was the last tech-free option.
Hello @@spartan8390
That makes sense, thank you for letting me know. I optioned spec'ed out my truck to have everything except for leather.
Doesn’t look that hard, no raptor lights on ?
Hello Team Slaiyan.
No raptor lights because everyone has them. I would only have raptor lights if I had a raptor.
Can it fits on the Sr5 tacoma?
Hello Renz Claro.
Yes it will fit all 3rd generation Tacomas (2016-2021), regardless of trim level.
Did anyone do this install with the sensor in the grill?
Hello Jay.
I have a 2017 Toyota Tacoma thus I do not have any experience with the sensor installed within the pro grill. The front sensor grill was implemented in the 2018 Toyota Tacoma, I would call the dealership and see what they say about it. You would want to ask how the front grill sensor is installed in the 2018 Toyota Tacoma Pro.
i did, on the new trd pro grill, there is gonna be a slot for the sensor to go in, it's beneath the TOYOTA. You are also going to need the garnish to put in front of the senor in order for it to work. the garnish will cost you around 50 - 80 USD depending on where you get it from.
Was wondering the same.
ThePrivateBanana I have seen other Pro grills. The garnish/sensor slot is BELOW the Toyota. There was not a slot BEHIND the Toyota letters. Are you saying that there is a new design for the TRD Pro Grill?
Where did you get your grill from ??
Hello Selena.
I purchased this grill off of eBay. Simply type in 2017 Tacoma TRD PRO Grill in the search on eBay, and it'll show all the sellers and their pricing for it. Click on the link, and it should show you where I got this grill.
www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2380057.m570.l1313.TR12.TRC2.A0.H0.Xtoyota+tacoma+trd+pro+grill.TRS0&_nkw=toyota+tacoma+trd+pro+grill&_sacat=0
How do you like the manual?
Hello Justin.
I believe the 2016-2018 Toyota Tacoma 3rd Generation is gear to get better gas mileage, and the automatic transmission feels under power. Due to this, I bought a manual and it drives great. It has a short throw and shifts into gears easily. I'll probably make a video on my thoughts about the manual transmission soon. I would suggest driving a manual at a dealer before committing to one. I test drove my Tacoma, then committed to buying it right after the test drive. I upgraded from a 2013 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport 4.0L, if I could do it all over again I would have kept the 2013 due to "feeling like it had more power." I'll be adding a Cold Air Intake to add 27 horse power and that should fix the lag of power. Let me know if you have any other questions.
Stryker of Seattle is it suitable for long trips, does it ride comfortable?
Hello Justin.
The longest I've traveled in my Toyota Tacoma was a 3 hour trip to and from college. It is comfortable, but it is a mid size truck so the seat will be smaller than an F150. I would suggest going to your local dealer and sitting in one. As for ride comfort, I would say the stock suspension does a great job absorbing some bumps but not all. I upgraded my suspension to a Fox 2.5 RESI DSC suspension, and it rides like a Porsche or premium car. I would not suggest this option due to the fact I paid over $3,000 for my suspension upgrade.
Last and final, I would suggest going to a dealer and test driving the Toyota Tacoma. Everyone has different option but in my opinion the truck rides good, the value of the truck stays high during ownership, and the reliability can't be met by any other brand.
you forgot a whole step
Hello Jackson Bogdan Photography.
And that step is?
after you remove the ten screws you have to pry apart the grill and liner from the other piece
Hello @@jaybeethagoat
At 1:42 I point out the 10 screws that need to be removed. And at 1:56 I suggest to use needle nose pillars to push the clips through. I apologize I did not show this.
gotcha, when i was pullin mine apart today after watching this i was so confused haha, got that figured out, thanks bro!😂🙌🏼
Hello @@jaybeethagoat
I'm glad you got it figured out. Thank for letting me know about the 2 steps missed in the video.
It's a Flat head screwdriver!!!
Hello Jeremy Collett.
Yes I said Phillips head instead of flat head. I apologize about the mix up.
Is that OEM or aftermarket? It is also matte black in color?
Hello Leo.
This is an aftermarket pro grill purchased off of eBay for $70 USD. Perfect price and affordable, you can't tell the difference between the OEM and the aftermarket (unless you buy someone who is not known). The grill is a matte black color, matches on OEM. If you want gloss black you can always have some paint it or you can paint it with a gross black paint. Let me know if you have any other questions.
Just picked mine up from builtNKO.com thanks for the vid!
Hello Michael Charest.
No problem, best of luck with the install.
Is about preference bro I always asked my self way people want to put a 100$ fake grill on when you almost pay 35 to 40k all original parts is only 279 dollars more buddy n you can get oem I am just saying is that too much to afford
Hello Santiago Guerrero.
Honestly both the OEM grill and fake Pro Grill are manufactured in China. And close up you won't be able to tell the difference. The OEM grill is good if you order it from the dealership and have them install it; that way if anything goes wrong they will replace it.
What about those of us that have the 2018 Tacoma with the safety sense senser thats on the grill !!!
Hello NightBreed141.
Option 1: Use the Pro Grill without the sensor, get a fault or error and have the dealer erase the fault so the sensor light doesn't come back on.
Option 2: Talk to your dealer about what the Pro Tacoma uses within the stock Pro Grill that uses the sensor. There might be some people on the TacomaWorld Forums that have rewired the sensor.
Other than that, I do not have any good ideas for you since I own a 2017 Tacoma so it's not an existing issue. If I figure out how to mount the sensor on a Pro Grill, I'll comment on this post. I'd suggest calling the dealer and asking them.
on the new trd pro grill, there is gonna be a slot for the sensor to go in, it's beneath the TOYOTA. You are also going to need the garnish to put in front of the senor in order for it to work. the garnish will cost you around 50 - 80 USD depending on where you get it from.
Hello ThePrivateBanana.
Glad to see someone figured it out. Thank you for commenting and letting me know that it's possible to install the censor in the Pro grill.
Hello Nightbreed141.
Order this grill: (if you do not like it, simply send it back to Amazon).
www.amazon.com/dp/B07GMLLZP6
Hey buddy do you have the link for the grill? The link don’t work
That’s not a Phillip head screwdriver lol “standard”
Hello Cory.
The flat head screw driver is used to pull up the tabs, and you can use a 10mm socket or Phillips head screen drive to remove the inner most screws. The Phillips head screw driver is not in the video as I did not want to strip the screw. I said the wrong screw driver name, but you can visual see how to use it.
As cheap as the plastic is I don't see how it could cost $25.00. I guess we're paying for the name right, like Nike...
Hello Josh Salmons.
The grills are injected molded plastic, and on a large scale like the pro grills (200,000 + grills are made) the overall cost of making a fake / real pro grill should only cost $15 or less dollars. Toyota sells them for $395; which is absolutely ridiculous. And the sad part is people actually pay for them.
Everything is obscenely priced these days from McDonalds too Ammunition go check out a new grill for a Dodge Ram 🐏
