My mom loves the goonies and I never saw that movie but to find out he was one of the kids and was denied his dream for so many years is so devastating. God bless Ke and I hope he books future films and television roles cuz Hollywood needs accurate and fair representation
Loved your conversation, it was natural, earnest and honest Josh. Subbed just because of the flow of the conversation and its length because I liked that you had moments breeze.
Amazing interview! My heart ached.
Same here. 🙂 Ke's genuineness and passion are truly inspiring.
I felt his feelings as I worked in western companies before, and i got so many up and down with talent that is not having fair opportunities.
What I love about this movie is that it totally changes the perspective about American hero movies which I get bored with after indian Jones and back to future generations.
He "resumed" to the industry still remains humble.
I can't stop binge watching Ke's interviews. It's impossible not to be inspired by him.
Same here. Ke is so humble and gracious and so vulnerable. I cry every time.
Same here. I hope he is protected against the Hollywood underbelly. His kindness and earnest nature is relatively unseen in that industry.
@@SurrealSurrender the man must be protected at all costs
@@finnkafka7444 Here Here! I will take the first shift, you take the second. Lol.
Same!!! I've been on the Ke Huy Quan binge! So happy for him, and how he is so open about what this means for representation. His story is the best, and I wish him all the best!
'Nobody wants to hire me except Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Wong Kar-Wai and the Daniels' made me crack up. Glad he stuck with it and so happy for all the positive reception he's gotten for his amazing performance!
And now Kevin Feige and Russo Brothers have hired him
And that is an amazing lineup.
Its not that no one wants to hire Ke Huy Quan, it's that Ke Huy Quan only works with the greats 💅👑
Between Ke and Brendan Fraser....I've been so stoked about seeing these guys getting success again all these years later! Its heartwarming and they both just deserve it.
Such an honest and open actor! Love your sincerity.
Ke's story is deeply humbling, makes me realize as a filmmaker, cinematographer, camera operator, editor, that nobody owes me anything, that each and every shoot, each and every time I pick up a camera, each project I take on, it could be my last, I have to earn my stripes, do the absolute very best I can.
I can't get enough of listening to Ke - his gratefulness is palpable - i am so happy for him and I want to see him in a romantic comedy next! I hope he wins the Oscar! It will be so epic! He is the positivity we need in the world!
wish granted
He is an underdog and people love his story. 38 years and finally it's his showtime!
I want to see Ke is literally any movie or TV show! This guy is one of the most talented actors in the world!
I HATE that he wasn't a working actor before. Really sucks a young talented KE had the doors shut to him in hollywood because there wasn't roles for asians in the 80s, 90s. This man deserves EVERYTHING. Much respect for continuing to hustle hard.
I wonder why he didn't try getting into foreign-based Asian cinema, like Maggie Q did. He might've also tried returning to acting sooner after Jackie Chan became a star. Some Asian actresses were also doing well from around 2000 onwards like Lucy Liu and Kelly Hu.
@@jedijones you mentioned all female actors and the jackie chan who was outlier. Regular roles for guys like KE didn’t exist
@@eskanda3434I wish Spielberg or Lucas would have given him even smaller roles in their later films. Think of films where he could have played the best friend down the street. The co-worker. Anything
This 👏🏽 human 👏🏽 needs 👏🏽 to 👏🏽 be 👏🏽 protected 👏🏽 at 👏🏽 all 👏🏽 costs 👏🏽 I adore Ke Huy. He is simply an amazing human ❤ INTERVIEW HIM AGAIN PLEASE!!!! You could do a whole podcast just on Goonies.
I love this man so much! I want him to be in so many more movies, not just because he is an amazing actor but so that this incredible happiness can continue for him❤️
Ke Huy Quan is an angel and deserves the world and must be protected
Waymond and Ke's portrayal is a template of how we all should live. He is the perfect human.
Congratulations, Ke for winning the Best Supporting Actor at the Oscar🍾🥃🍸
Its such a joy seeing the return of Ke Huy Quan. He is obviously such a genuine, nice person and we can all enjoy vicariously his exhilarating return.
Ke is just the best. As an actor myself, I find a sense of comfort in his interviews and his disposition. He's just phenomenal.
It really is INCREDIBILE that this man quit acting as a kid, came back decades later, and gave an awesome performance to win a Golden Globe!!
Oscar. Everyone who can vote, and who does not want to put in the effort of watching everything… will vote for this guy, the exposure on him is insane.
He deserves it, don’t get me wrong, just saying that it’s in the bag, he has no competition in terms of exposure.
And an Oscar
If Ke wins the best supporting actor Oscar that might be more joy than my heart could stand. It may explode.
Have you gotten treatment for your exploding heart? :) so happy for him too!
Marco, love your comment and also delighted that Ke won because of supporter like yourself!!!
The 80s really was the golden age of children's films, I grew up on them all, and when I had my own son I watched them all with him too and he loved them just as much. I took him to see the whole Indy trilogy at the cinema, Temple of Doom is my favourite. My son loved Data in the Goonies too, he wanted to invent things like him. There's a huge amount of affection for Ke's characters, and I always wondered what happened to him. I'm so glad to see Ke win the Oscar, and even more glad to see representation in films changing so positively. The Asian antagonist is a popular and lazy film trope, but this film flips that totally on its head and it's a brilliant, touching, innovative film. I hope we get many more like it and that Ke's career flourishes. What a lovely guy he seems too. The cherry on top for me is that Chunk is his lawyer, and Harrison Ford presented his award. What a fairytale ending!
I wasn't born in the 80's, nor am I Asian, but when I watched "Temple of Doom" and "The Goonies" in the late 90's and early 2000's, I wanted to be Short Round and Data. They were awesome kid characters who took part in large adventures. I have not seen "Everything, Everywhere, All At Once" but I sure want to now. So happy for Ke!
Watching this after he won his Oscar!! This is such a great interview, and he gave such an amazing acceptance speech you really can’t help but cry tears of joy for him! As someone who’s just starting out in their career and who’s not hearing back from jobs and feeling extremely discouraged, Ke’s story is the inspiration you need to hear so you don’t ever give up 🌟💜!
What a wonderful conversation. Shame on so many people for passing on him.
Key is seriously the sweetest guy ever! So happy for him, and really excited to see him in more movies :)
One of the happiest days of 2023 is when Ke Huy Quan's name is called onstage and he is handed his Oscar. His is a narrative that is full and filling.
It's wonderful that your prediction realized.
A masterclass in gratitude, determination, humility. What a beautiful man. His joy and spirit are contagious.
This is the first interview of his ive watched and man when he said he asked the producer "am i good in it" i choked me up. I dont think ive ever been happier for Ke and in general this crop of nominees... it feels great to root for him , Michelle Yeoh, Austin Butler, Colin Farell, Barry Keogan... its been a wonderful movie season.
Is there a more compelling and lovely man ANYWHERE? Give this guys any role anytime. Great actor.
Watching Ke's interviews makes me cry everytime in a joyful way.
Ke Huy Quan is one of the most compassionate and humble man I’ve ever seen. And is a guy working in Hollywood no less.
I wish him the best of luck with his new career in Hollywood. And I hope to god he wins that Oscar. He deserves it.
As someone who also grew up in Chinese value family, I can totally understand why Ke got emotional when he talked about his family. Michelle was also very emotional when she talked about her role. I think for Chinese immigrants, doesn’t matter which country we live in now, we feel elated. Because finally there is a story that talked about the Chinese story. Finally our voice is heard by the main stream.
So candid and sincere, there's no ounce of pretension in any of his interviews. Amazing. This man deserves the success.
I saw this in theaters, bought it digitally and bought it on blu-ray 4k just to support EEAAO. Its amazing.
What a great interview! I grew up loving Ke (we have a similar life history: Chinese born in Vietnam, moved to N. America) and always was in awe to see someone who looks like me in the movies! I binged watched his movies a few years back and wondered what happened to him, so to see him back on screen has been amazing. I want to meet him in person and tell him what it means to see him act again. It would also be amazing to work with him!
I love how much he loves his wife and how much he mentions her.
I love his sweetness. Crossing fingers for those blind casting directors to realize how great an opportunity is for THEM to have him enrolled in any work of theirs.
Can't wait for a show starring Quan. 💖
I can't believe such a talented person spent 30 years without getting any roles. It's just not fair. Imagine all the amazing perfomances we missed. Hollywood stole that from us
I'm so glad Ke persevered! I wish he wasn't so hard on himself because, for so many years, there were not really any good roles for Asian actors. He deserves all the accolades & awards! I wish him continued success! 🥰
Every time Ke cries, I cry. I didn't grow up with Short Round or Data, and only just knew about him after seeing EEAAO but I became an instant fan.
watched this interview a few months ago and now he’s an academy award winner!!!
...and now he has a Golden Globe! I'm so happy for him, and I loved his performance in EEAAO.
Probably the best HSC interview ever. 😭❤️
As a Chinese filmmaker SO inspired by Indiana Jones, and thinking about doing Chinese adventure series, I'd love to work with Key Hu Quan on a short round spinoff.
Imagine the possibilities, Short Round learning survival in clique wars, fighting Imperial Japanese and SS infiltrators stealing artifacts and researching supernatural powers in Tibet in WW2.
I just think it's a good time to do that.
Not just that, but also as an archaeologist and martial artist.
The fact that the minute he came back to acting after being away from it for over 20 years….and is now winning big acting critic awards just shows you how naturally talented he is at it. Well deserved and I hope he gets an Oscar.
I am so happy to see this pairing! Thank you so much for making this happen. It’s so strange how emotional it is for me to see someone who looks like I do, on a show that I love so much. Big love to the both of you!
Much appreciated!
I've always wondered what happened to the actor who played Short Round. What a wonderful journey he has done. Happy that he won an award. Looking forward to seeing him in other movies. 👏👏
Hello,
Sarah Halley Finn is the reason comic books translated to movies. I contend Feige could not have built this empire with another casting director. It’s not hard to understand why she’s been in the credits for just about every MCU film since Iron Man. I am very happy to hear Ke give laud to her. And obviously, she sees the talent in Ke, which just proves the point.
Willie
Ke is such a lovely genuine person. Reminds me of Matt Mercer in his demeanour.
I promised I wouldn't cry but that "Ke you're in this movie a lot!" did it. His family must be so proud after watching him wait all these years.
When I was a pre-teen girl back in the late 90’s/early 00’s, I became obsessed with the Indiana Jones trilogy. It was one of my first nerdy obsessions. Before LOTR and Star Wars and to this day I still to this day utterly adore it with my whole heart!
I always wondered what happened to Ke… I’m so so happy to see him acting again and in such a big way, the way he deserved! His performance in EEAAO was moving. His way of handling everything that has come after is beautiful and it just makes me so so happy 🫶🫶🫶
I can't believe his acting ability in EEAAO. He's phenomenal. I'm in awe of him
Wow, he is such a real person, may he have many good roles and fortunes ahead of him!
What a wonderful return. Great to hear such a heartfelt story.
It is appropriate that this man landed the role in this concept film; he has experienced life in all its guises. He has the real life experience that brought the right vibe to the character. Wonderful role, wonderful actor, wonderful movie.
i cant stop watching Ke's interviews. He is such a beautiful and compassionate soul!
Same here . Have been binge watching Ke's interviews, allowing myself to be awed/inspired by his stories, admiring and loving him more each time. What a beautiful human being.
Such a wonderful, sweet, inspiring interview. ❤ Ke is so happy that he could answer he has nothing to be sad about. It was such a genuine answer and I am happy for him! So many lessons to learn about being grateful.
We must protect this guy. He is a treasure!
This is so inspiring. In the meantime, it is truly a bummer how our society is judging people based on their superficial perceptions and the lack of seeing genuinity from people. Even with ordinary people who are going through job interviews and being judged by all those superficial stuff. The society needs to change and embrace more diversity not just in terms of skin colors but also in terms of personalities and characteristics.
This is what I’m going through now and man, it’s a struggle
Thank you for this lovely interview. 19:56 I felt his pain. You do not expect a 23-year actor to go through that, especially if you started from the top.
I am glad he stayed in movies in some other form. I did not realize that the production started before the pandemic, started auditioning again but kept getting rejected. That was a rollercoaster of emotions that he had to relive.
I hope he gets more roles and will keep acting until his 90s.
Wow! I just love this guy! I grew up with Indie, Goonies, Spielberg. So lovely to see Ke reach fulfilment. Can't wait to see what he does next. Bless him and his wonderful enthusiasm. Such a deserving soul.
So happy for him. I foresee him winning the Best Supporting Actor Oscar, this Winter. All that's missing, now, is him playing a character in The SWU, preferably, within The Mandoverse (knowing the vibes between Favreau, Filoni, and Lucas, and the history, overall, that would make perfect sense). How meta/reversal-of-fortune would THAT be? As always, thanks, Josh.
“Am I any good in it?” Man that question was definitively answered. Damn it he’s bloody brilliant in it. That shelf of awards proves how talented he is.
It's a crime he couldn't work as an actor, having such a talent and charisma. Hollywood made him doubt himself, so sad! His story is so moving, huge respect to him (and his wife!). Anyone who doesn't get how important representation is, should learn from this
I was honestly wanted him to be in Crystal Skull. Would have been better than Shia's role.
Damn did not know he’s going to be in the MCU! I was already crying but I’m crying a river now. Happy for Ke!
Real man do cry
What a charismatic and decent man. Very happy for his sucess!
Ke Huy, you’re such an inspiration to everyone, esp those who are struggling with their career. You’re lucky to have such a great supportive family while you are pursuing for your dream. I love your positive attitude and your gratitude. Keep it up!! Best wishes to you!!
I am so happy for Ke Huy Quan! I am looking forward to seeing him in more movies and TV shows!❤
Not only are we happy to see him back, but daaaaaamn what a good performance that was!
It's crazy, nobody wants to hire Ke Huy except the biggest directors and producers in Hollywood. I am so happy for this man, his story really made me tear up! More power to you Ke and I hope you keep getting more iconic roles.
This man is so pure!!! So inspiring and a joy to watch. I can't wait to see him in more movies
Thanks for not giving up, Ke! I love his role in Indiana Jones and i always wonder where he was and looking for his appearance... I've waited for his return and here he is, a humble, loving, inspiring, positive person ❤️
What a sweet guy, Ke! I'm so glad he's enjoying this great resurgence of success!
Ke has a sweet and pure soul, but not only that, he has an amazing family that will support him no matter what. He also must have a guardian angel. So many child stars suffered so much to achieve success and many didn't make it. Ke could have easily gone this route trying to use his connections and make whatever sacrifices to achieve his goals, but he didn't. It sounds like he went about things honestly and fairly and patiently waited and endured until it was his time. What an inspiring story and much needed in these times.
Imo what made the film so great is every component was thoughtfully created by artists who were enthusiastic about the project. It inevitably coalesced into a beautiful film. I watched it out of boredom and lack of things to watch. I didn’t expect to cry through the entire thing, the score really pushed the emotional moments right over the edge for me.
A movie should be made about Ke.
Ke Huy Quan made me cried with this interview. He is really inspiring 😢
I can’t stop watching his interviews. His story is the story of many of us.
There is nothing more attractive in a person's characteristic than humility...Ke encompassed humility and authenticity which make everyone want to root for him even more....
So well deserving....
The eventual Goonies 2 cast keeps retroactively looking more and more stacked. Packed with award winners and stars from Marvel, The Matrix, James Bond and Lord of the Rings, and from the directors of Harry Potter and the Oscar-winning Steven Spielberg. Goonies never say die and my hope for the sequel will never die!
What a wonderful, humble human. And so talented. We're glad to have you back Ke Huy Quan!
Wow ! Fantastic interview Josh!! …. Ke Huy Quan … We have only love and support for you. We are so happy for you and wishing you many more successes. Hugs Hugs
Ke really inspires me. No dream is too far out of reach! Time hasn't passed you by, you are not too old to find fulfillment. I love his energy. Listening to him just puts a smile on my face - he also brings tears to my eyes. Loved him in Temple and Goonies, he's brilliant in Everything. Looking forward to what comes next!
We need more people like you Ke!
Dope convo. If anybody deserves the praise and accolades it's this guy. Rooting for you Ke!
Watching more Ke Huy Quan to celebrate his legendary Oscar Win!!! 🥳
I'm sad that we live in the reality where Ke wasn't constantly working - all of those great movies we could have seen.
But I'm so glad we live in the reality where Ke makes this amazing comeback.
It just goes to show. Without the failures, we would never have had this success.
Ke is the best his story inspires me so much 🙏🏻 Congratulations you're one of the best interviewers ever 👏🏻
He is so humble and honest. Listening to him inspires for sure
What a come back. Hope to see more of him soon on the screen 😘
What an inspiring man and genuine guy. Wow. Great interview.
This is one of the best actor interviews !
I doubt I'm the only one who saw Ke in Indy and Goonies and just assumed that such an iconic fellow would become ubiquitous immediately, only to be confused when he wasn't. His soul is bared on screen in EEAAO with how much he clearly immersed himself in the role, the physical and emotional sides equally. 'Better late than never' is a cliche, but so true here.
Im so excited for Loki season 2! And what if, in many years later, this comment will be read by some if those who have seen it and thought" what a tough time that was, waiting..."
Me encantó esta entrevista. It was really amazing. He keeps so humble. I love this man. Now you are an Oscar Winner.
I can’t get enough of Ke. I’ve seen almost all his interviews about this film and I always end up crying. He’s the most grateful, humble, happy, kind and loving human being I’ve ever seen so far. I see a lot of my personality in him and he also looks exactly like my father. It would be a dream come true and an honour to meet this man in person one day. His story will inspire many people to never give up and that miracles do happen big or small.
Blessings to you ALL 🕊🙏
Watching ke brings me so much joy and I’m so happy for him
Esta entrevista es tan inspiradora.Gracias.
The best interview ever !! Made me in tears badly ! Now I am so in love with Ke, such a humble and inspiring man !
What a year! Brandon Fraser and Ke got what they deserve finally!
Great “normal” fellow who is humble and loving. And a hidden message here is how us men DO FACE sadness, depressed moments and career challenges when reaching fifty though we still have the “expertise” or motivation to meet new challenges but not having our “youth” ( looks of being in our 20’s& 30’s) works against us and quietly we feel trapped.
