i love how michelle yeoh being cast is not only integral to the script and evelyn wang's character but also to the entire film (jamie lee curtis saying yes, fighting for ke huy quan and stephanie hsu, believing in the MartialClub, unapologetically giving her artistic inputs on some scenes and sequences, and i even saw her suggesting movements to some choreographies they did in the battle sequences). LITERALLY A LIVING LEGEND. GIVE HER HER FLOWERS NOW!

Michelle Yeoh is the single most versatile actress we have right now. The Daniel’s nailed the fact that she completely transformed physically in an utterly invisible manner. A24 is a brilliant organization that actually makes art that challenges on numerous levels. All art makes us feel something. Great art like EEAAO makes us examine and delve and ponder and repeat the process.

Really props to Michelle Yeoh for taking a risk on a crazy script like this and working with young unproven directors. I don't think the movie would be as successful if they cast Jackie Chan. It would be just comedic .

When I saw Michelle Yeoh video interview in Variety before the movie premiere I knew I had to be in theater to see. I haven't been in theater for years because I have no interest in modern movies. It was surreal sitting in theater with a bunch of 20 something kids and hearing them sobbing all over the theater during that climatic scene when Ky tells Michelle he wouldn't have mind being married to her in that other universe where they were poor and run a laundry service. I didn' think this movie was going get any attention from American viewers or OSCAR voters because it was Asian centric and didn't meet all the Disney's WOKE check boxes. GOD I hate Disney and their WOKE agendas. I did my best to spread word of mouth to all my family and friends. I purchased the movie on Apple TV and Amazon Prime to support them. Then I find out they pretty much swept the Oscar. I have no interest wasting 2 hours of my life watching the OSCAR.

What do you mean didn't meet all the woke checkboxes? Old working class minority immigrant mother with a lesbian daughter, a beta male husband advocating non-violence, and a father-in-law that sits in a wheelchair. It's as woke as it can get and I'm pretty sure this contributed a lot to the Oscar win.

That wasn't the one he was thinking of, though The Wizard of Oz was also released in the same year. Oddly they had the same director, Victor Fleming, who won the Oscar for Best Director for GWTW in 1940. Guess the other 3-5 directors who worked on the picture weren't credited.
