  • Recently I purchased a Ford Ranger after looking for months for an affordable pickup truck. Here’s everything you need to know as a practical buyer looking at a Ford Ranger.

I used to work with the Georgia Department of Transportation as a construction Inspector. They gave us little single cab Ford Rangers to go to the job site. They were uncomfortable, they rode rough. You could not kill them though. They would go forever. It was not unusual to see one with 280,000 miles and not use oil or smoke. Great little trucks.

You made a really wise choice man. I have a 2011 sport 4x4. Parts are really inexpensive. Flush all the fluids, do the plugs, wires, thermostat and belts (unless done already) and you will be set for a few years. Having no carpet is very nice. I am gonna drive mine till the wheels fall off.

You got a great piece of ford there, my boy. I own virtually the same truck from '08 and i love it. I have a few upgrades to wake up that little three that you can diy for not a lot of money. Cai, tuned exhaust and a mild chip tune take it from its stock 155 to around 190, but the real difference is it is fun to drive. Take care of it and itll never let you down. Enjoy!

Pretty nice truck bro. Should be good for you as long as you don't get snow. It's crazy how much they cost these days. I bought my 2000 Ranger xlt 4x4 off road with flex fuel and a stick back in 2010. It had 116k miles and I paid $4,500. I've had it for 13 years now and drive it 900 miles at a time (one day) four times a year. 256k now and I've put four sets of tires on. Those bf tires are sweet but not really necessary without four wheel drive. Hankook makes good looking all terrain for half the price and they are just as good. Have fun!

I own both a ‘09 Ranger and a ‘05 F-150 as part of my collector vehicle stable, and to be honest with you, I actually enjoy driving the Ranger much more than the F-150 because of its smaller size!
Now keep in mind that all of my collector vehicles are absolutely pristine, and even with that being said I am always amazed how much love and attention the little Ranger gets! Part of it is it’s condition for sure (most Rangers from this era are reaching the age where they are getting pretty run through) but even with that being said, every time I have it out I get comments from people who love the way it looks and who miss trucks that aren’t so over-sized like most of today’s models!
Hope it’s still a good rig for you - the 3.0 is the only downside just because it offers the poorest combination of power v fuel economy…….😐

Just curious now that you've done the video a year ago, do you still have the truck and are you still happy with it? I'm looking As well but for my retirement gig in a few years. Cheers from Canada

I had to replace the clutch ..they sold it for that reason.. But the wheel size is what I like to know.. Is it 15X8?

Probably should have mentioned the engine options and towing capacity. No mention of where to look for rust such as the front “A” arm mounts. KBB is also way off. One 1999 was valued at $3800 and the used car dealership wants $8k with mustang wheels. It’s nice and all but geeze!

Bro ive owned 2 of them! A regular cab long bed 2007 which looked like yours style wise! Also had all terrain tires but mine had a bedliner with a toolbox and 3 inch lift. Was a sharp truck very basic XL model had the 4cyl 2.3 great on gas wish had it now especially 👍. My 2nd one was a 2000 XLT 3.0 V6 supercab also 2wd. It was cheap and very reliable as well cannot go wrong with these Rangers but unfortunately that one had a flaw the rear frame was rotted out near the shackles and leaf springs area so always look at frame too! Dealer took it back finally after a bad verbal breakdown with them was a safety issue and was a $2200 dollar truck that looked too good to be true for the price and most likely was a former flood vehicle. So be careful. I found out they were a shady dealership they knew what they were doing to ppl. So with any vehicle used BE CAREFUL PURCHASING!!! But those trucks are great trucks and yours looks well preserved for the year just have the frame oil coated every year and same with the underside and wax it and keep up oil changes every 3000 miles especially on that 3.0V6 it should stay nice for you and keep it as these are rare now! Maybe eventually herciliner the inside bed it'll make it more durable and protect it if you decide to haul stuff. Happy 4th to you as well

I've got a factory ordered '08 with 5.0/5 speed/2wd. The extra space of the extended cab is only really useful on the four door. When I ordered mine I deleted the jump seats and got a reduced price.

5:20 5:22 5:24 i had a 1996 Ford Ranger that i bought in 1999 it had a 3.0 V6 with 5 speed, i got 23-24 MPG consistently, flat, uphills,.downhls, loaded, and empty. I sold it in 2014 still ran like a top had almost 400,000 miles on it when i sold it. 3.0 isnt a powerhouse but theyre very reliable.

The Sport logo on the Ranger, is not just a sticker, it denotes that it has the heavy duty suspension, that can take a lot of weight, in the box, and has a larger towing capacity, and limited slip differential.

    • @Dumontjon
      @Dumontjon Год назад +1

Not true. You could have got the sport in many configurations. None came with heavy duty suspension.
You could get the 3.0 v6 or the 4.0 v6. Most of them came with open differentials and 3.55 gears. You could add a limited slip diff as an option though.

The biggest difference between your sport Ranger and the regular Ranger . Is that the Sport came with the same suspension and ride height as the four-wheel drive . I have a 2003 Ranger Edge , and it's basically the same thing . Two-wheel drive , but with the same torsion bar suspension that the four-wheel-drive got . Regular two-wheel-drive Rangers have coil spring front suspension .

I’ve heard these v6 engines suffer from head gasket failure and the timing belt usually has to be replaced along with it. Is this something that anyone here has dealt with ? I’m leaning towards the 4 cylinder since I have heard the engine is sturdier.

In most of the country yes, but I happen to be in California where it is even more expensive. In fact, now you can’t get a Ranger here under 10,000 dollars with the mileage and year of mine. I just want to reaffirm I am completely satisfied with my purchase, and in today’s market here in California it is actually true that I underpaid.
