I just tried this method and I was astonished how easy it is. Since it was my first tie it took longer to avoid any mistakes, but with more practice I can see that it will take less and less time. I also used your rainbow system for determining how much binding and flat yardage you need for your quilt and it was so easy and accurate, I could put my calculator away. Thank you for making this task a lot easier!❤
OMG. I followed your directions as seen on video. I can’t believe I made 6.6 yards of continuous bias binding with 1/2 yard of fabric with no waste! I have a little confusion on where to cut your yardage is half at the beginning. So I placed my 11” mark on the ruler on the folded line and then matched up my 45 degree angle line to the edge. Again I am so surprised how easy this was. No lines no manual cutting and perfect bias binding. Thank you, thank you for sharing!
I don't normally comment on RUclips posts, but this is--by far and away--the best method I have found to easily get perfect continuous bias without wasting a lot of fabric. That seems to be a recurring theme in almost every other continuous bias "how-to;" the methods may be "easy," but they almost all waste a lot of fabric and/or lead a person to believe that you MUST use a square piece of fabric. Thank you for your excellent tutorial!
YES, please demonstrate the bias binding "tiny-tweaks" needed to make the fabric stripes line-up:) Your Geeky videos are great to watch as I sew. I also listen to your videos as I tend to boring-house-cleaning-tasks . . .your sense of humor can really brighten my day. Thank you. Jennifer
So I doubted your method, until I tried it on some of my "beyond ugliest" fabric. Miracle! Using your method is one I'll use from now on and that ugly fabric became beautiful as bias binding... thank you so much for sharing your time and talent and for an excellent tutorial. Wish I'd viewed this months ago. Kindest regards to you and your followers... we're all blessed to learn from you.
OMG it worked… I had tried the “parallelogram offset mark and scissors cut” method and got jagged edges. This way, I messed up the first seam (batik hard to see right or wrong side). But I trusted the process and got an accurate strip with straight edges. Thanks!
My mother had this drawn on a piece of paper in her sewing machine for years. We could never decipher what her diagram was! At the time, I asked a lot of people how to do this and no one knew. She knew the note was to remind her of how to make bias tape, but she couldn't remember how it worked, only that it had to do with where to sew it...somehow! Your tutorial is exactly how it was done, she couldn't remember the cutting part!
Unbelievable - this is an absolute miracle! I love to use bias binding, but I hate making it. Almost 6 (six!) decades after I first picked up scissors, I still cannot cut an accurate straight line. Or an accurate curved line. Or basically any accurate line at all. So you can imagine my joy when I discovered rotary cutters. Except...every bias binding method I've ever found always required cutting with scissors. Not mention all the fussy angled little seams. But not anymore! Only 2 (two!) seams! A quilting ruler and 0 (zero!) marking! Best of all: A rotary cutter and no (nada! zippo!) scissors! My sewing life will never be the same. I cannot possibly thank you enough! But still, thank you.
I just used this tutorial to turn nearly 3 yards of fabric into bias binding. It was very efficient and my new preferred method. I used a tailor's ham to isolate and iron the seam open after sewing the long straight sides together and found it effective.
This is the best demonstration and hardly any waste, I’m always a bit tight on material . Have watched quite a few demos but find this one the best. Thank you for sharing❤️🌷
This is absolutely the best way I’ve ever seen for making bias binding. I’m making some now and was getting ready to draw lines (as I always have) when I decided to watch some videos on it. Boy, am I glad I chose yours! Now I’m going to watch all your videos to see what else I can learn. Thank you!!
What a great way to make bias binding, no having to be really precise cutting in a circle, or having endless angles to sew and joins everywhere. Thank you, you taught me something today.
I finally got to try this after 5 months of discovering this video. I used only a small 12"x11" piece of scrap fabric in case it didn't turn out right, just to try the method. It worked! And it turned out cute, too😂. Thank you again!
Thank you for this tutorial. I just used your technique and your Magical Rainbow of Binding to make my binding. It was SO fast, and the yardage was spot on! I also used Sadie Hopkins tip to use a tailor's ham to press the seams open. The one thing that puzzled me was how much to leave uncut at the edges. I kept thinking the length of the cuts HAVE to be precise. I even marked two cut lines along the edges. Then, I made my cuts and the fog cleared. You really don't have to be precise. Leave 1.5 inches, 2 inches, all good. Wow! Trust the process indeed!
Oh wow that’s fab, thank you so much! I’m not a quilter, I’m make my own clothes. I was just about to hem a denim circle skirt and realised I didn’t have enough shop bought bias binding… Right then, I thought I want this finished - I’ll have to make my own for the first time. But every video I looked at was working with squares of fabric and I’ve a long rectangle. This looks faster and will use much more of my scrap fabric. 😍
TYSM for ALL this info. I've been searching for a way to cut the bias binding that didn't waste any fabric and would be easy to do. I also have never heard of that "chart" you mentioned. I'll probably be getting one of those soon. TY again for sharing this video with us.
Thanks so much for this tutorial, I was really intimidated by creating my first bias binding but this made it so quick and easy! I was using a layer cake pack so I sewed the squares together in a long strip then used this tutorial, it made a perfect scrappy binding! My one piece of advice for newbies would be to cut the strips slightly wider than your desired binding size and then trim down once you have the continuous strip - it’s much more of a pain, but it’s difficult to get really clean and straight cuts with this method imo.
I’m so glad that I stumbled around enough on RUclips looking for “making bias binding” to land at your video. OMG, what a find your method is!! Once I got my wrapped around all the cutting, everything fell into place. I needed 10.5 yards and I ended up making 13 yards SO easily. Thank you so much!!!! ❤🎉
My friend and I tested this tonight on some spare material. We used a 18" wide to make the "strips", but our strips were not consistently even in width. We believe with time (& practice) the strips will be more consistent. This is by far the easiest way to make bias tape!!! We both will now use this to make our own bias tape. Thank you for the video! Keep them coming!
AMAZING... THANKU FOR ENDING A NITEMARE FOR ME AND BIAS BINDING... THE STRUGGLE WAS VERY REAL.. LUV IT.. THANKU SOOO MUCH.. JO FROM THE TROPICS IN AUSSIE LAND
Amazing! Amazing! Thank you so much for sharing this method. I tried it out on a scrap of fabric sized 14" x 28" which resulted in 7 yds of continuous bias binding at 1.5" width. It went fast and easy. Can't get any better than that! This is my new "go to" bias binding making method from now on! So so quick!
I am blown away. This was so easy and quick. I doubted but, wow! I will use stripped binding more often. I'll demonstrate this at my next guild meeting and give everyone this link. God Bless and have a great day quilting.
Thank you for this tutorial!!! I tried this last night with binding for a baby quilt. Maybe I should do a scrap fabric to practice....nope not me! Just went for it and it turned out AMAZINGLY PERFECT!!! Crazy how that worked. My last few cuts were slightly off but it with a bit of trimming no one will notice! It's a magic trick for sure!! A+ tutorial!!!
This is a blessing to my arthritic thumbs, as the rotary cutter is much easier than scissors. I used this method today and it worked really well. I didn't use your chart because it was for the hem of a skirt, so I decided to "make lots. It will keep." I have many metres left over, but I will eventually use it, I am sure.
Easiest method I have found! Now I know what to do with all the scraps of material I have. And save $$ by not buying ready made. A tip re: ironing that second seam: I used a sleeve roll for ironing sleeves on clothing. Just slid that bad boy right into the loops and under the seam and was able to press the seam open without ironing creases into the loops. :)
Wow! I have tried several methods and by far this is the best and easiest. No need for tedious marking and pinning just so! Thank you for nicely explained and demonstrated technique
This is sort of the way I was taught to make continuous binding except that I usually use a marking tool to to measure and mark the strips and then sew the seams offset, then cut the whole big strip after. It is hard to get the offset seams in the right place and hard to cut, especially if it is a thin bias or a small piece of fabric. Oh, and you absolutely have to start with a square. This method seems to be way more easy and efficient! Thank you!
This is just the BEST tutorial! And so, so easy to do after you walk yourself through it the first time. Thank you! I'd love the matching stripes tutorial, if you're still up for making it :)
So I had my doubts about this video because my first attempt at continuous bias strips went terribly wrong. Followed the video to a T or so I thought, but ended up with bias rings that I had to unstitch and sew them back individually 😅🤦🏾♀️ I came upon this one and gave it try tonight, MA'AM! I am thankful to God that I found this video. I don't have rotary cutters and the advanced rulers so I marked out with chalk and a ruler and used scissors but I got the same results. So thankful for this tutorial! ❤
I typically steer clear of bias binding. However, a few months ago, I was doing a pattern that required it. I came upon this video and it worked like a champ. I’ve since shared this video with others. Watching it this time, I paused, took some screen shots, added some notes, and created a reference guide to remind me of the steps. Like everyone else, I’d love to know how to align the strips. More goal for the new year is to make a ton of bias binding to have on the ready when I need it. Great job!
Just found you and the tutorial on binding strips and downloaded your graph showing how many strips are needed. Thank you so very much for this information showing how to cut the binding. I needed to see this a long time ago!
Looking forward to trying this! I need some binding and saved thus some time ago, now ready to go! Please show how to line those stores up so perfectly 💕
I had to watch this a couple of times, and now I'm convinced this is just short of magic. 😂 I will definitely give this a try. Fingers crossed. Thank you for this tutorial.
I needed some binding and and watched a couple videos and went with your method...no marking! It worked great! Also love the chart that does all the math for us. Thank you!
OMG...This is the first time I've seen your site. What a GREAT video on how to cut bias binding. I just finished my first binding & it turned out perfect! I will definitely be using this in the future for bias binding. Thank you again!!
Thank you! I started crafting with textiles when dinosaurs roamed the Earth and most "new" ways of doing difficult or boring tasks are just the old ways, explained worse but with more social media panache. But this! This tutorial is genius. I positively detest those "continuous bias binding" tutorials where they never account for the second seam allowances and the cut lines don't line up. You have solved that problem and I am in awe!
I trawled YT to find out how to do this, after unsuccessful attempts a few times before, and Yay! I did it! Thank you SO much for the most uncomplicated way of explaining this method and for the yardage sheet.
I’m an experienced quilter but new to bias binding. Your idea makes great sense but doing it on black solid fabric looks very different from a stripe that is easier to follow. I can’t see where your extra fabric lies while cutting and my strips were falling on the floor. So if you could go slower and show fabric orientation on solid would be really helpful!
My mind is blown. I was looking for ways to make non bias binding because of how much I hated the marking and cutting version. Trying this today. It looks so much easier!!!
I thought that the method that I saw yesterday was unique. This is a very good alternative to that method. I will probably use both. I will first try them with fat quarters. Thank you so much.
Thank you for this video. I was doing a different version of this and COULD NOT get the lines lined up for the second seam. I was losing my order loving mind. Saw this, tried it, and it's gorgeous. I love it very much. I will use it forever. Thank you for sharing.
I cannot tell you how happy I am to have found your "binding bliss" sheet--it is worth its weight IN GOLD. It is easy to follow and I have shared the link with my guild--I know others would love this information as well. Many, many thanks. And you did a fantastic video demonstrating the construction of continuous biad binding. New subsrciber and I am off to binge the other gems here.
Genius! Thank you!! PRO TIP: Use a sleeve roll to press open that last seam :) Edit - Pro tip #2: Do NOT try to line up the strips when sewing the 2nd seam. It will turn out all wonky. Trust the process!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I wish I had seen this Sunday when I was like 10 inches short of binding and had to wait till Monday to go purchase an eight of a yard to finish my project!!!🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
Thank you for a most practical, time saving video of a good process. Thank you, too, for the chart. Q. Must your fabric (single layer) always be a square or can I use a rectangle? Sorry, but I'm such a seriously visual learner and these videos help tremendously. Thank you for sharing your time, and creativity, and for delivering instructions in a clear and concise manner... and with a lovely voice. Kindest regards to you and all your followers.
This looks to be a great way to make binding. I have been using the one where you cut round and round, but there are lots of seams. This looks as though there wont be as many seams on the cut binding. Looking forward to trying this out! Thank you for taking the time to make this video! Oh - and I'd love to know the tweaks needed to get the stripes to match. 🙂
Yes this works! I did have some "off" stripes so wish I could find a tutorial on how to "tweak" those to perfection! Other requests are a year old so I figure you did eventually post that too!
i watched this video and downloaded your bias chart and for the first time i have finished a quilt of without having to get more bias.. i made exactly how much i needed....
I just tried this method and I was astonished how easy it is. Since it was my first tie it took longer to avoid any mistakes, but with more practice I can see that it will take less and less time. I tried this method today -- much harder with full-width fabric, but it works!! Seems like a mile of binding, lickety-split! Thanks a bunch!

It is easy to follow and I have shared the link with my guild--I know others would love this information as well. Many, many thanks. And you did a fantastic video demonstrating the construction of continuous biad binding. New subsrciber and I am off to binge the other gems here.
OMG that's amazing, How did you come up with that. Clever girl.
Anjeanette Klinder had most of the steps, I added a tweak that made it harder to mess up 🤣
Amazing technique. Thanks for sharing. It is a timesaver to do!
Genius! Thank you!! PRO TIP: Use a sleeve roll to press open that last seam :)
Edit - Pro tip #2: Do NOT try to line up the strips when sewing the 2nd seam.
Amazing! I am so happy to have stumbled on your site! Thank you!
Donna, thanks so much for your kind words! The fabric can be any size of rectangle. I used a half yard, so 18x40!

Great tutorial.....can't waIt to use this method
This is amazing! You are a genius! Thank You for Sharing your Time, and your Talent with all of us.
Wow! So much easier than measuring and using scissors. I have to work on my accuracy but I am so happy to find this method!
Please can I have the tweaks on how to line up the stripes. Thank you for your fab demonstrations
Wow that is amazing! So glad I found your channel! That is the best and easy way to make it with hardly no waste. Thank you 😊
This looks to be a great way to make binding. I have been using the one where you cut round and round, but there are lots of seams. This looks as though there wont be as many seams on the cut binding. Looking forward to trying this out! Thank you for taking the time to make this video! Oh - and I'd love to know the tweaks needed to get the stripes to match. 🙂
OMG. The easiest bias binding tutorial I found! I might need to make a lot more tree skirts!
Fantastic! I love making binding (actually sewing it to the project perfectly continues to challenge) and will definitely give this a go - thank you!
Wow! I just suffered through making 50 ft of binding the very time-consuming way others show. Your way is fantastic!
Yes, please, do a video on the tweaks you did to make the stripes match up. Thank you. 🙂
This blew my mind! Can’t wait to try it.
BriIliant! Decide to ‘trust the process’ and it works. Thank you so much
