Добавлен 30 май 2018
It took a few decades, but Bobbie Gentili finally found the right outlet for her lifelong creativity and love of mathematics when she was introduced to modern quilting. She now spends every waking moment designing quilt patterns, longarm quilting, petting ...err... curating beautiful fabrics, and sharing her quilty adventures on Instagram at @geekybobbin and on her website geekybobbin.com.
Bob's patterns feature bold, geometric designs, playing with curves and long strips to give a sense of movement. She finds inspiration in science, nature, and geeky culture.
Bob lives in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, where her husband, 2 young children, and cats enjoy any scraps of her attention that can be stolen from quilting.

Don't waste fabric! Use Prequilt to audition colors for the Glitch quilt pattern
I just tried this method and I was astonished how easy it is. Since it was my first tie it took longer to avoid any mistakes, but with more practice I can see that it will take less and less time. I also used your rainbow system for determining how much binding and flat yardage you need for your quilt and it was so easy and accurate, I could put my calculator away. Thank you for making this task a lot easier!❤
@@justinezentner7399 this makes me so happy!!
This blew my mind! Can’t wait to try it.
Would love the video on aligning the stripes
OMG. I followed your directions as seen on video. I can’t believe I made 6.6 yards of continuous bias binding with 1/2 yard of fabric with no waste! I have a little confusion on where to cut your yardage is half at the beginning. So I placed my 11” mark on the ruler on the folded line and then matched up my 45 degree angle line to the edge. Again I am so surprised how easy this was. No lines no manual cutting and perfect bias binding. Thank you, thank you for sharing!
HOLY COW! I just found this tutorial and what a gamechanger! SOOOO time efficient! Thank you!
Do you need to start with a square for this method or just any size fabric? Do the edges need to be squared up and straight first?
@@maureenconner6172 any size rectangle. Squaring up makes it easier.
Amazing. It turned out much easier than a method I've used before!
I would love to know how you got those stripes to match up! I didn’t see a video on it.
Thank you. Perfect
cant see well at all.
What the ???!!!! Sorcery! Magic! Freakin' amazing! 💙💙💙💙💙💙
Beautiful! Points like this are such a tough thing for me. What fabric collection are you using in the video?
So clever!
Genius! Thank you!
This did not work for me. I had a half yard 45" piece of fabric. After removing the selvage edges, you say to sew the two straight edges together, but there were four straight edges and they were all of different lengths. I'll go back to the old way once I get more fabric. 😢
@@BethWingate-w9p first seam is the non-selvedge edges
Really gonna enjoy have this chart. Very helpful
It’s magic! Consider me a convert and I won’t be going back to the old way of making binding. Thanks you!!!
I like this method so much better than the one where you sew up a "tube". If you don't offset the mark lines when joining them to sew the tube, you end up with loops.
So disappointed...tried this new method with my stripe fabric...I obviously joined something wrong b/c I have yards of no bias binding and my stripes are all up down straight with no stretch or give. And not enough extra fabric to do again. 😢
I need to make bias binding from a stripe fabric with an .8.5 inch irregular repeat directional print, tried going it either another method but couldn’t get the stripes to match up without Losing nearly 40% of the fabric. Think this might work?
@@Pattieo it totally could work, if you're able to match up the two seams.
Game changing! Thank you!
Great video! Thanks for the download also.
WoW! I've been wasting so much FABRIC! You're a genius! Thank you!
This is genius!! Thank you, just tried on a ribbed knit and it worked perfectly.I used a sleeve ironing board for the awkward final seam pressing.
This was exactly what I needed! I followed your advice and it worked fine :-) thank you so much for sharing😊
Where oh where can I get that chart. I don’t see it in comments

Absolutely brilliant! I am going to do this from now on.
The best bias binding method I have used! Did you ever make the additional video to show how to match up the stripes?
@@denisenunes9306 it's still on the to-do list
I can't get your 'magical rainbow' pdf to download. I've filled in everything but nothing happens when I hit 'send me the rainbow'. Any ideas?

@@GeekyBobbin Thanks...I tried both things but still no luck. Oh well! The tutorial is GREAT! Thanks!
I'm in awe. Thank you. Now I have to practice the method. I am sharing to my fb group of crafters.
My mind is blown. I was looking for ways to make non bias binding because of how much I hated the marking and cutting version. Trying this today. It looks so much easier!!!
Just WOW! That is so cool. Please do share how to tweak it to make the stripes match. Once again, so COOL!
I have been sewing for 50 years and have HATED making bias. This is soooo slick! Cheers to you!!!!
Thank you this worked out just perfect.
Amazing💕
Most relaxing quilt how-to video --- which I'm new, sooooooo you had lots of competition! Thanks for such a great video!!!
Good grief! Perhaps this quirky method would be satisfying to some; however, not me! I can make yards and yards of bias binding that may have more joins but is more accurately cut and less confusing. I might discard a little more fabric but I always prefer precision in each step of my quilting.
THANK YOU! this worked perfectly for me!
WoW! I love tricks and shortcuts for technical stuff like this.
OMG sew perfect. I needed bias for a non quilting project this works a treat. I will be trying for my next quilting project too. Thank you!!!!
BEST METHOD EVER.
OMG! Brilliant!
I need the name of the print on that yardage because it is gorgeous! Very helpful video :)
It's from Tula Pink Allstars. Good luck hunting it down!
I like the way you fold your folding your material. I recently purchased some comic boards for folding my fabric. So I’ll be using them for now.
I trawled YT to find out how to do this, after unsuccessful attempts a few times before, and Yay! I did it! Thank you SO much for the most uncomplicated way of explaining this method and for the yardage sheet.
I want to do this so bad. I have to use 2 yards of fabric because my quilt is so big and I have scalloped edges. I am having a hard time knowing where the selvage sides are; when you cut the fabric it wasn't in the video. Also, with the striped fabric I cannot tell the good side from the wrong side. When you said to sew the raw sides together I get confused because all the sides are raw and that process is also not in the video. I want to understand this and make it work but I also don't want to waste my fabric by messing it up. You make it look so easy and it is amazing! Are you folding the fabric in the beginning or is just laid out with no folds? Do you think it is possible for me to do this method using 2 yards of fabric? If so at which point should I make the first cut? Half way down the length maybe? I appreciate all the work you put into this video and your enthusiasm! I really would love to learn this process! Thank you for all your help!😍
Selvedge is parallel to the stripes on this fabric. No folds when cutting. First cut can be anywhere in the middle. First seam is the shorter edges, so for you this would be the non-selvedge edges. Feel free to try on a smaller cut of fabric first to get the hang of it.
@@GeekyBobbin Thank you so much for your help! I will let you know how it goes! I want this to work! ❣
Great tutorial! Thanks!
Pure genius! I love this!
Very clever! Thanks for sharing the knowledge.
Just now getting ready to make 5 quilt's worth of binding. CAN'T WAIT especially since one is a hexagon quilt and I want to keep the ends . Also did you do the Tips & Tweaks video?
