Just found this story on Palm Sunday, 2023. Had to find out if these 2 friends managed to stay in touch. Now I’m in tears and deeply saddened to learn that Erling passed just a couple of years later. Thankfully, Erling & Emmet did visit just days before Erling passed. I hope Emmet will always remember his very special friend. Emmet’s mom is right, you stick with the people you love until the very end.
@@Mypandaloves I said a great granddad and great grandson. See my comment about the old man who set up his flying fox for preschool kids. It was 1988 and we called him Grandpa Theo.
Not sure if you've seen, but Emmett was recently in the news again for building his 5th grade teacher's disabled dog a wheelchair! Another very cool story from a bright kid
I watched this and just had to know what happened. Very sad to hear about Erlings passing. Many WW2 vets are lost to us every single day, their life experiences, their service to our country gone with them. It would have been wonderful if they could have written all of that history down for others to see. And not just the fighting parts, but the humanity parts as well.
He reminds me of my son when he was a little boy. My son is almost 19 and he works with old people now. Some people have that special thing inside of them that makes people happy.
I’m not crying, you’re crying…this is as sad as it gets for me as I take care of my 86 year old mom. I wish she had a friend like Emmett..….so sad for Erling…
I just love and respect our elderly they have been through and seen so much in their life times and know so much and understand way more than I could ever in my life time once they are all gone we are and will lose out on them😢😢❤️❤️🥰
My brother's wife has a 95 year young grandmother who still stays out gambling. She's a badass devout Catholic who told me be grateful for what you have. Eight children, 16 grandchildren and a number of greats. She does not think she is old.
Isn’t that life? You meet someone who impacts your life so intensely and meaningfully one moment and the next they are gone. It’s all about the experiences in the end. No?
I know what you mean Marie. Stories like this encourage my faith in others like neighbors and strangers. To that end I strive to do the same as Erling’s example teaches us. RIP Erling and God bless and guide that little boy in life. 🕊
Emmet will learn far more valuable life skills from the veteran who lived in less technologically advanced time than today. He has a WW veteran as his mentor. That is some lucky.
Does this story continue? Its so deeply tender. I hope this little boy never ever forgets his space in time with this sweet.. The story and example this little boy can share. Its truly beautiful.
Just more proof it's the best generation of Men and women... not many left from that generation and I wish everyone could get to know one and become friends
Does it seem that in families now the mark of success is how completely you're able to live life separately and independent from the rest of your family. Seems like a lot of older folks spend the last decades of life mostly alone.
The kid has Lupus Karmine Disorder. If he goes to the doctor TODAY or as soon as you read this comment, it might not be too late to save the next 20 years of his life!! They can make it go away with medicine.
A veteran Dominican priest said Christ wanted to show his Divine power to those children before their Bar and Bat Mitzvahs. At 13 they're adults and go to work.
Thank you for sharing this amazing joy filled story even though it might have a bitter sweet and the story itself is amazing it reminds me to take it easy in life and always stop to smell the flowers in life the journey can be fun❤😊
6 years and only 35 comments. People disgust me, but this man and child are the essence of humanity. God bless the little boys mother and God bless old mate. If only everyone could see the true beauty behind this, the world could be changed in an instant.
the little time he had with the senior citizen will forever impact the little man and how he relates with people for the senior he will have peace thinking of this innocent moments a distraction to the horrors if ww2
We bought this house almost 20 years ago as our forever home. We were talking about what we would do if we could afford it and I said I'd add on to this house but would NEVER move. We have the best couple next door for neighbors. Steve and Cindy are just a little younger than we are but I wouldn't trade them for anything. On the other side of us was a young couple with 2 little kids and the day they moved to a bigger house about ripped my heart out. They sold to another young couple who in quick succession had 3 little ones. Then came the day they also moved to a bigger house. We don't get to see much of our grandkids so these little ones became our surrogate grandkids. Now it's a single mom with a teenage daughter. It's amazing how quickly you can bond with neighbors.
This is why we need "intergenerational day care centers": A place where children and the elderly can receive day care, where the older help take care of the children and the older feel a sense of purpose while the children have "grandparents" to take care of them all day-- it's a win-win situation.
ONLY if these elderly people are vetted. Just being old doesn't make them good or safe. I have a grandfather who was proof of that. Age shouldn't equal automatic trust
@@elliesouza717 Understood. My former landlord was a grandfather and great grandfather and he sexually assaulted me and other male tenants. He was a deacon at his church and talked about "the Lord" all the time. When I complained about it , I was illegally evicted from my home of over 16years. My eviction case is even online. I will discuss this and much more on my upcoming RUclips Channel "Practical Perry". Stay tuned. Thank you for your post.

Erling was like a great grandpa to that intelligent little boy.
@@pauljordan4452 so awesome. Bonus grandparent and bonus grandson. He is way smarter then me.

Absolutely the MOST heartwarming little clip. I watch this often to remind myself that human beings can be pure and good.

What a beautiful friendship. Old people are the best.
So sad to hear Erling passed away. R.I.P.
As an old lady, I say young 'uns r the best to us!
I don’t blame the little man, I get along with the greatest generation better than most other generations.
What a awesome man. That little guy is sure going to miss him.rip Erling you will be forever in his heart.
in tears........ just in tears...
Sweet isn’t it? 🕊

In preschool there was an old guy who brought his flying fox for the children to use. He was fondly called Grandpa.
What a beautiful friendship! May Erling be at peace 🕊️ and may Emmett and family be well.
Every little person should have a friend like him and every seasoned citizen should have a little person to brighten their day ❤
This is the sweetest story and I’m sorry you have to move away. They are the perfect pair. Thank you so much for sharing it 💫
This is the charm of having old people around BOTH have unconditional love & that strengthens the friendship..I felt bad for Erlin..but this is life.
IF that old person is a good person. Just being old doesn't make someone good

This was such a heartwarming story. I hope they can continue to get together as often as possible.
Erling passed a couple years after this piece, fortunately with Emmet visiting often in his final days.
Love this, RIP Erling.
Yes. RIP and God bless and guide Emmet in life. 🕊
Don’t watch this during work, it’s too sad. A happy sad feeling.
I learned a lot from my grandpa. It broke my heart when he passed. I miss him.😭
I feel ya. 🕊
what a tear jerker I can't even see the screen to type. Love and friendship he'll always have in his heart.
This is absolutely adorable. They seem to have that cut of the jib in common totally naturally. So of course they became friends. Universe works! :D

Agreed. 🕊
Very smart young man. The last of the last to have a great war vet as a mentor. Lucky boy. My dad was a vet , and I'm getting old now.
we need sort of stories more
Beautiful ❤️
These stories never fail to make my day when I'm having a rough time❤

How touching their friendship is!
Close ties between seniors and youngsters is beneficial to both.
These two are with out a doubt the best of friends!
So sad they had to move for that friendship they shared was just so special.😢
Beautiful story. Thank you for sharing. 💕🇿🇦
Gosh how much I loved this!❤❤❤❤🥰🥰🥰 It broke my heart for both of them having to move 😭😭😭😭😭

They're the cutest freinds. Some people just click it's a difference of generations. Little boy's learning a lot from this old guy
Buddies come in all shape, ages & sizes!! 👍
Broke my overly manly heart when the old guy was practically crying that his best friend and padawan was moving away
Padawan... I get ya. I picked up on Emmet’s request to play Star Wars. Too cute. 🕊
idek why but the boy saying his name at 00:59 made me so happy
Such a beautiful story. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
I hope the family keeps in touch with the old man for both the boy and the mans sake
How lovely, for both, lov y’a guys

So cute
Unfortunately, old people get shunned in todays society. It's really sad because they have so much to give.

Wow.... broke my heart!!
The boy would be great as a volunteer or paid worker in a nursing home. He is naturally good with the elderly.

Too many kids don't have grandparents. Please adopt a grandparent.
