  • Reviving Nostalgia.In this video, I took on the rewarding task of restoring a desirable vintage 1950's Hi-speed scooter, manufactured in Australia by the Pilgrim company.
    Although the scooter was in its original condition, certain areas had suffered from severe rusting and required a complete makeover. Despite the presence of noticeable pitting caused by rust, I opted for a cautious approach to the restoration process. I carefully filled in deeper pits where necessary, while preserving the remaining metal in its original state.
    This holiday project was undertaken specifically for the enjoyment of the kids. If you found the video entertaining, please don't forget to give it a thumbs up and consider subscribing to the channel.

    just by looking at that axel bolt...that appears to be a press fit (interference) collar on it. so how they would have assembled is put bolt through, pressed it in place with the collar already between the forks, and then placed the nut....i suppose it could have been a welded on sleeve as well, but i doubt it because that would have been much more work and i didnt see a seem (although i am not sure you showed us all sides of the bolt)....hope that helps answer your question.

    • @LittleRestorers
      @LittleRestorers  11 месяцев назад

      Thanks for watching. What u said made perfect sense. It had to be pressed fit , bolt into the collar... I spent countless hours analysing it but just could not identify two distinct parts or evidence of weld. Even my "know it all" friend who looked at it physically could not out 😂.
      Thanks for your fantastic comment, really appreciate it 👍

    Very nice! But why spray primer before putty and not other way around?

    • @LittleRestorers
      @LittleRestorers  11 месяцев назад

      Thanks for watching. I put primer on the bare metal straight after sandblasting to avoid flash rust. I don't necessarily sandblast, filler prime and paint in the same day so its important to be able to come back to the project a day or 2 later and not worry about rust forming again. I still put another layer of primer over the filler before painting.
      👍

    Excellent job! Curious, how well does that weather seal waterproofing membrane hold up with the rubber? How many coats did you need to apply to make the rubber one contiguous piece?

    • @LittleRestorers
      @LittleRestorers  11 месяцев назад

      Thanks for watching. Did a couple of layers of the membrane. First layer was mainly to get in all the cracks. The scooter has been getting plenty of use, and so far, so good 😄

      Thanks for ur great comment. I am myself still learning the ropes. Started filming on my phone like a lot of others but now have a dslr camera. Editing is definitely the most time consuming part especially when u have to self learn everything.
      There is no universal rule to making videos but I would say give it a crack and learn as you go 😉👍

    @waynemurray7862 Год назад +1

    Wow, what a great restoration, the colour is nice it's good to get away from the original colours and let the imagination loose every now and then. Great work mate, I always look forward to seeing your videos, were those Hi speed decals water slide?

    • @LittleRestorers
      @LittleRestorers  Год назад +1

      Thanks mate , always appreciate the motivation from a real expert in the field. Each kid wanted a different colour so we had to make a compromise.
      The front is an actual sticker. I made 2 water decals for the sides and my logo on the centre. Also, I thought i'd try the automotive pinstripes instead of hand painting. I didn't know what the original stand looked like, so improvised again 😂

    • @waynemurray7862
      @waynemurray7862 Год назад +1

      The stand is cool, the hot water to remove the rubber foot pad was another tip I liked, I usually use a hair dryer on the under side and get a scraper under the mat and do it that way but next one I'll try what you done 👍👍

    An amazing view mate. Your restorations, filming and editing are awesome and equal to the “big guns”.
    I felt sorry for you with the colour choice. You’re in a family of women so get used to it.😂
    That rubber mat restoration was genius and I’m surprised that the O-Ring tires hold together with glue. Looks like you exerted a lot of force to get them back on the wheel and the glue held.
    Good luck with this video Vince. You deserve all the credit.

    • @LittleRestorers
      @LittleRestorers  Год назад +1

      Thank you for your kind words. The original colour they picked was pink... can you imagine how that would have done down with the Hi-Speed fans 🤣. That CA glue holding the rubber together is amazingly strong. You could pull with all your strength, and it wouldn't let go.
      Since you are very knowledgeable, did u figure out how they would have fitted these axle bolts in originally ?

    • @shedmanx3640
      @shedmanx3640 Год назад +1

      @@LittleRestorers I haven’t come across anything like that before. I guess the axle bolts were either partially fitted, through one side of the frame, and sweat soldered or welded. The other option is the axle sleeve or was removable but became rusted on.
      The first option is hard to believe as it’s a complicated design for a simple scooter which would increase cost. Hard to get my head around without seeing the axle.

    • @LittleRestorers
      @LittleRestorers  Год назад

      @shedmanx3640 I also thought there was a sleeve or the head was welded onto after, but from what I could see after removing it, it was all 1 piece. What a head scratcher 🙄

    Great job! I'm working on a Cosco chair and I've gotta put the rubber on the steps eventually, what glue did you use for the rubber on that?

    • @LittleRestorers
      @LittleRestorers  Год назад

      Thanks for watching.The glue is a high strenght flexible polymer sealant adhesive. It's very versatile so can be used for various purposes but most importantly it does not affect the integrity of the rubber.👍
