@@midnightaustin9287 he is. TE is the showman. Somehow this is Tommy introducing Richard in Richard’s studio! TE is always top billing. And will be for the foreseeable future. For a guitarist who has earned accolades for his incredible steel string technique, Tommy Emmanuel brings so much beauty out of nylon strings. An album of duets with these two would be out of this world. One of Atkins/Reed covers - would be phenomenal.
They guy who wrote and performed Wheels, Keith McCormak, was a friend and worked for me as a flight instructor in Prescott, Az. some years back. He had a group called The Stringalongs. He is gone now but his music, including "Sugar Shack" will live on.
Mum used to dance me around the kitchen to the stringalongs version. And then Dwane Eddy's version. That was back in 1966. Still makes me feel like a sook about happy times. She's 80years old now and I'm soon to turn 60. Time flies
An interesting thing I've noticed over the years about TM and others who play with him is that Tommy never looks at his right hand and only rarely looks at his left hand when playing. Much of the time he has closed eyes, or is looking about, cracking complimentary jokes about the output of others' performances. His mind and hands are so often on auto-creativity and auto-execution. And yet all other players when in concert with Tommy spend much time either watching and concentrating on their own hands and/or Tommy's hands to see what he's doing (or going to do next)! Even here, with a master like Richard Smith, Richard can see and is often watching Tommy' s playing, and yet, Tommy is facing away from seeing Richard play. Tommy is truly playing blind 90% of the time -- transmission from his creative mind and ear DIRECTLY TO FINGERS without needing to SEE the fretboard much or concentrate on what comes out of his guitar ... or anyone else's!
Wow, I love Tommy. I think he belongs hands down in any list of greatest guitarists of all time. And his selfless generosity of spirit is truly heart warming.
It’s really annoying that these two make playing the guitar look so effortless. Fantastic rhythm, chord transitions, and all that other stuff that they do to make music so heart warming.
The first time I heard of Richard was about 4 or 5 years ago when Richard opened for Tommy in Fort Myers, FL. I was dead center of the stage and about 10 or 15 feet from the stage. What a night hearing both of these guys playing live. It was a life changing experience. Thank you Richard and Tommy
I was and will never be a guitarist ....but... I truly appreciate the talent that these two men have and their mutual respect for one another .... it's like ear candy !!!!
I’ve been playing guitar for almost 60 years and these 2 guys are the best. I still play today even with major shoulder surgery 4 months ago and still have 2 more months to fully recover
To me the most beautiful version I’ve heard of Wheels. And simply, these 3 minutes are ones of the most beautiful 3 minutes’ piece of music I’ve heard. Congrats, & so many thanks.
What a wonderful rendition of this dear old tune. I heard it played for the first time by Billie Vaughn and his orchestra, many decades ago. I´m 68 years old. These guys are great. Thanks!
TE and Richard need to do an album together! Love seeing Tommy play the new Kirk Sand guitar. I got a chance to visit Kirk’s shop this year pre-Covid and saw this guitar while it was being built.
Anyone who gives this video a thumbs down is obviously a disgruntled chap with a self esteem problem who's still trying to master "She'll Be Coming 'Round The Mountain" on guitar after 5 years. Great job as always guys! Reminds me of my youth listening to my Dad finger pick those old Chet and Travis songs.

One of my late father's favorites... A big thankyou. He never had formal lessons and never could read sheet music but he did teach himself to play 5 musical instruments. He would have loved to hear your collaborations.

Two of the world's best! If you ever get a chance you must see Richard Smith - he's simply incredible. Was lucky enough to see him and Tommy in concert few years ago. Richard opened and did an intro for Tommy that had the entire audience captivated and stomping their feet when he did an amazing rendition of "Stars and Stripes Forever". And then -- Tommy stepped in and well, anyone who knows Tommy knows how it went after that.

These two are just the best aren't they? I'm sorry you "boys" seem to be catching me up in years. I've followed you around for a longish time. Nice playing guys. You should do it for a living.....:
This is the most riveting guitar collaboration I have ever heard and I’ve been listening for 65 years. Two masters. Tommy is playing within the purpose of the new instrument he just acquired, and he’s doing it perfectly. Tommy is a chameleon. Richard is more of a jazz player, I think. While Tommy is more of a honky tonk player (the type of acoustic guitar music I like playing, in my relatively feeble but joyous way). It’s just more to absorb and learn. This video is priceless. You could spend the rest of your life learning from and enjoying it.
Wheels....mmmmm...not one of my favourite tunes to play, but these two wonderful guys gave it such a bright, fresh treatment, it becomes irresistible. Tommy, you said modestly, "Hope you enjoyed it." Enjoyed it?? I absolutely loved it! You and Richard are by far my favourite guitarists since I discovered you both earlier this year. Keep up the good work and stay safe, both of you.
Yeah, Kirk Sand builds amazing custom guitars that always sounds amazing. For decades, Tommy’s workhorses were Matons, made in Australia, and he signed an endorsement deal with Larrivée at one point. I guess when people start calling you The Greatest Acoustic Guitar Player, luthiers everywhere start throwing their best guitars at you. 😂
Oliver Batchelor I have two Almansa nylon string guitars, and two electric Les Paul style Ibanez . At eighty, if I could only have one, it would be the Almansa 457.
