      Cleopatra and The Fall of the Roman Empire were probably among the last major films to use huge levels of practical effects. Matt paintings. Process shots. Plus, of course, most of the extras were real people.

    It's amazing that Hollywood has done this scene several times - in various movies - but they have never matched this one. The dark clouds, the blowing winds, those massive walls of water. The ominous look of this whole sequence is quite stunning. Personally, I've always felt that the "parting" of the sea is not quite as astonishing as those scenes where the sea closes back up on Pharaoh's army. It looks so real it's creepy. That's just awesome film making there.

      Milton Smith I suggest watching Dreamworks “The Prince of Egypt” it has a grand scale to it, has some beautiful animation to it, and showed Moses and Ramses to be brothers first and only after time see that they become enemies. They don’t want things to be this way, but it has to be.

    I’m 22 and my dad showed me this movie because he had watched it as a kid on a school field trip. I may have grown up in the CGI age but the majesty and grandeur of this execution moves me more than most CGI. Especially since they really did have a gigantic group of people; no manipulation of camera angles. And the way Cecil gave us time to absorb it all by showing everyone walking through the sea and looking around in awe; it’s perfect. I also love the performance of Moses here. He’s strong and firm, total faith in God that inspires me as a Christian. The line “The Lord of Hosts will do battle for us” is unbelievably moving.

    This has got to be the most colorful, and dramatically effective movie ever made. Thank you Cecile B.Demille for giving us the best Bible movie, of all times, howbeit Passion of Christ movie came later, that is on the same level of the best. Loved the perfectly picked characters to play in it. Yule Brynner, excellently played Pharoah, Charleston Heston, best choice ever to play Moses, and handsome John Derek exceptional as Joshua, the warrior with great leadership skills, befitting him to follow Moses.✌❤🙏🎵🌹

      My guess is that the actress doesn't speak English and they had to dub her down the line but the dubbing session doesn't go great either. Also, Cecil B. DeMille suffered a heart attack so some scenes were taken over by the second unit director.
      It's weird that THAT was the take that made it into the final cut considering there's this whole spiel about why Cecil B. DeMille omitted the frog plague because it simply wouldn't work on film. "If it doesn't work, he simply will take it out of the film."
      Still a great film, though.

    I love the part right before this part where God brings Moses and Israel up to the water with Ramses and his army behind them, putting Moses and Israel in between, and Ramses says "the God of Moses leaves him with no retreat"
    Not knowing that God does actually have a plan "a retreat" in progress, Ramses and Moses just don't see it yet.
    Then God does his thing.
    God is still God even today

    • @kevin8712
      @kevin8712 5 месяцев назад

      Rameses was probably right though. The Israelites weren't going to retreat, because God parted the Red Sea so they could keep moving forward and not turn back.
      Apparently the adage "Don't say anything you're gonna regret" didn't exist back then, but I think it was because God hardened his heart...
      Even so, may God be praised!
