Whenever this man is genuinely upset, the dogs instantly move in to check on him. Those are some real ride or dies. A man and his dog(s), its a different kind of bond.
This movie, aside from it being a great sequel and funny, was truly the end of an era. Walter Matthau, Jack Lemmon and Burgess Meredith were giants among men and sadly all 3 shuffled off this mortal plane of existence over the next 6 years after this movie. Their chemistry was amazing. Loved your reaction JL and I’m sorry you had to witness Mick passing again. Great job as always on the editing Blank. Nothing but love and respect!
Ann Margaret and Sophia Loren are 2 of the most beautiful actresses in the business. Matthau and Lemmon are legends! The actress who played Maria's mother also played the next door neighbor on the Dick Van Dyke show in the 50s named Millie
Grandpa had a small farm pond. An old widow woman lived in a small house next to it for 40 years until she died. Every time I visited her as a child, she would feed the fish and tell me stories about "Charlie". According to her, Charlie had lived there at least as long as she had, and was still growing. Occasionally we would see a large splash in the pond, and she would tell us all it was Charlie. No one believed her, but we all fished for him, just in case. Every time a fish broke a line, we would claim it was Charlie and laugh. About 3 years after she passed away, we found Charlie floating in the pond, dead from old age. He was a catfish, nearly 6ft long. He had 17 rusted hooks still in his mouth, and you could tell many more had rusted away. Weighed almost 85lbs, and it was clear he had not been healthy for a long time before death, so he was likely over 100lbs in his prime. Not all "legends" are myths...
One of my all time favorite movies!! “There are many women floating in the river, Maria. But you’re the only one I wanna stuff and hang on my wall over the fireplace” 🤣🤣🤣
These two films were a big part of my childhood. The scene w/Pop makes me shed a tear or two every time. if you've never seen their film, The Odd Couple and its sequel, then I highly recommend them. In my opinion, they were a comedic duo that matched, Laurel and Hardy as well as Abbott and Costello.
You NEEEED to see Jack Lemon & Walter Matthau in their younger years in "The Odd Couple". They were comedy gold together right from the start. Plus, that movie is a bonafide classic. It was a huge hit when it came out in 1968 & is still beloved by any film buff who loves to laugh. Please add it to the list! Your babies made me get all teary-eyed because of their love & devotion. They make me miss my Asta. But they also make me laugh a lot of the time. 💙🌿💙🌿💙🌿💙🌿💙🌿💙
My favorites of this film will always be: 1- the outtakes 2- looks like God remembered you 3- Burgess Meredith singing "Dream a Little Dream of Me" So, basically Burgess all the way
I loved Sophia Loren in this movie! She is such a great actress and so beautiful. I can't believe she is in her 80's now. Great reaction to a great and funny movie.
burgess and ann margaret acted together in an Anthony Hopkins thriller called MAGIC back in 1978. Hopkins is a talented ventriloquist and Burgess is his manager/mentor
I knew you were going to really enjoy the blooper scenes. I hear so many people complain that on some channels the reactions are fake. You could never be accused of that because your reaction to "Mick" dying was about as real as it could get.
That's how it happens in real life. Was raised by my grandparents and one Wednesday I'm setting next to my grandmother in her living room and she just left.
Classic one liners from this legendary fellow. ❤ 👏 two of my fave things he says. They always crack me up. He has several other great lines as well like the following: anything about Detroit, pettiness and the shut ups when jump scared
Ernest Borgnine was a major actor in the 50s who was generally not considered a good looking leading man (kinda like Walter Matthau, who made the joke). Ernest lived to be very old. He did voice work for SpongeBob SquarePants.
When my girl died my aunt got me one of those blankets. I've never used it because it makes me sad, but every now and again I take it out and look at it.
Burgess Meredith actually passed away just a couple of years after the movie came out. Very sad! He's been acting for such a long time. I LOVED him in his Twilight Zone episodes. If you've never seen the original Twilight Zone series, I highly recommend watching some. They would be great for reactions! S01E08 "Time Enough At Last" and S02E29 "The Obsolete Man" star Burgess Meredith! I also recommend "The Silence", "The Shelter", "The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street", "Kick the Can", "Nothing in the Dark" (with a very young Robert Redford), "Escape Clause", "The Invaders", "A Most Unusual Camera" and of course, "To Serve Man." I hope to see you react to those!
JL...there are *_so_* many movies with Burgess Meredith... _many_ are cheap, *brilliant* horror movies. Aside from him being The GOAT Penguin vs Batman...he was in 180+ movies and shows. There's a lot *more* of this legendary badass. _Lots_ more!
That's exactly how I want to die. Sitting on a bench admiring the beauty of waves swimming through the sparkling river being smiled upon by the Sun while the wind of God sings to me from the trees.
Giving children staplers for Halloween 😂😂😂 I spit myself laughing! These two starred in “The Odd Couple” in 1968 famous comedy about two men in apartment together one a slob the other a neat freak! The was fun thanks!
It wasn’t bad watching these 2 movies when they first came out because Burgess was still alive and we knew it. It harder to watch now that they are all gone!
PLEASE, fans of Jay: Turn this wonderful fellow onto Being There, one of the smartest, quirkiest comedies ever. He deserves the most worthy films we can find! PLEASE!
This was the last movie Burgess Meredith made before his passing, but the last acting role he made was in a FMV (Full Motion Video) game called Ripper, which is about a Jack the Ripper-like killer in the future and it has pretty impressive cast - Christopher Walken, Karen Allen, David Patrick Kelly, Paul Giamatti, Jimmie Walker and John Rhys-Davies. And it has the song Don't Fear the Reaper by Blue Oyster Cult. Have you seen the Batman 60's show? If you have, you should do a reaction of the movie, Batman: The Movie, from 1966. It has Burgess Meredith as The Penguin, who he also played as in the show, and his Penguin laugh is iconic! Fun fact: The Penguin smokes a lot and the irony is that Burgess at the time had just quit smoking. A 3rd Grumpy Old Men-movie was planned and Italian actor Marcello Mastroianni (known for being in the Frederico Fellini-movie 8 1/2) was gonna play an ex of Sophia Loren's character. But the idea got cancelled when Mastroianni passed away one year later and when the other Walter Matthau/Jack Lemmon movies Out to Sea and The Odd Couple 2 failed at the box office.
This really help me out going to be honest with you I'm in the hospital I just had a stroke but this video you and your dogs have made my day and I feel a lot better thank you
@JL Not usually a fan of the style of this film but Matthau and Lemmon deserve the fandom they got and I adored both actors and this was a good goodbye to them getting large staring roles. Was a fan of watching you adore two legends with still plenty of acting chops and magic yet :) Thank you, the EOM staff and the patrons.
I love the Grumpy Old Men movies. The 2 Grumpy Old Men movies have a certain, lovely, warm charm to them. For example, I love how the scenery of the state of Minnesota is practically a co-star. In Grumpy Old Men we get to see how nice Minnesota looks with all that snow and ice. And in Grumpier Old Men we get to see what it looks like underneath all that snow and ice. Just beautiful. The small hometown feel also really adds to the charm. Makes one want to move there to live and hopefully have Max, John, Pop, and Ariel (and all the others) as neighbors.
When I saw this in the movie theater, I thought Mick was just asleep. I started crying when I realized he had died. The rest of the movie is hilarious though
Great reaction love these movies and I really appreciate the length of all your reactions a little longer then most and shout out to your editor blank you guys rock next stop 50k let's go
Bro have you ever watched The Odd Couple? It’s where the Matthau/Lemmon partnership started (I think.) The part where John came to sleep at Max’s house was an homage to it.
I understand your pain. Me and my brothers were huge rocky fans then we saw rocky 3 and were devastated after seeing Mick die. It was like we lost our grandfather for real. Seeing him die again in this one was still sad but it felt comforting that he died peacefully in his last acting role. He was amazing in this movie, also in Rocky movies, as the penguin on the Adam West Batman show, and in some of the best episodes of the Twilight Zone. 🤘🏼
Biff (Tom Wilson) is funny and does shows and has a song called "The Question Song" about doing this movie. Also I read that in the car scene when Marty drinks from the bottle, it was supposed to be just soda or something but the prop rew put real whiskey in it to prank him and the reaction is real lol
I hope you don't write this movie off completely it was Mick's (Burgess Meredith's last movie). The story is that he had developed Alzheimer's and had to be constantly told his lines, but he still steals the show.
Hey dude, new subscriber but watched your vids for a bit. Love your vids and your humor (and your dogs btw) keep doing you bud. A fan from Illinois, the midwest humor is rare but effective lol keep on my man
I loved that reaction and honestly, I feel you man. When pops passed, it hit. I wasn't sure if I was mad or sad but it comes somewhere in the middle, feeling both. Still, these two films are a lot of fun imo and I can't recommend them enough to people. 🐾🐾🍻
I really enjoyed your reactions and comments for Grumpier Old Men very much. Your babies were really worried about you being upset.... they are so cute . Thank you a lot for this and I look forward to watching more movies here .
Thank you Blank and J.L for all the work you guys put into all your reaction videos. I wanted to recommend a movie of my people titled Blood in Blood out
Mick is the guy I wish to aspire to; being an old bloke who has kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. Somehow got laid at 95 years old, and went out like a champion. Like no joke, I'd love to be Mick, an old guy who had a lot of experiences. I just hope my son or daughter doesn't find me dead on a couch. Oh, and this movie hit me hard too, because my own grandpa was found dead on the living room couch, and my sister thought he was sleeping and slept next to him, then woke up and noticed he didn't move and checked his pulse. Yeah, that's something I can relate to. That incident also made me never want to smoke or drink, because that's what killed him.
I feel the same way, minus the smoking and drinking part. Healthy people die every day. We all got that expiration date, whether we are young or old, rich or poor, healthy or not we will go when we go. I will always live my life in the now, 40 years and still going strong, till I'm not.
@@INDRIDCOLD83 Yeah, death comes for us all, I just don't want my future kids and grandkids to find me like that. It's different if the wife or best friend finds me like that, because they can at least let my kids know how I passed away. My sister was pretty scarred from how grandpa died, but she's doing well now. Hell, this year, I thought I was having a heart attack, but the doctors found out I just had a severe nerve pinched on the left side of my neck. I would've been pissed if this was the time I leave this earth without becoming a dad and grandfather. Though, it did make me want to be healthy and improve myself. If anything to delay my departure, there are so many things I need to accomplish, before I go. Oh, and I very much appreciate your comment, it really means a lot to read it.
Another great reaction, J! I'm sorry that Mick's death hit you so hard, but that's a tribute to how great a character he was, and how fantastic an actor Burgess Meredith was (which most people of my generation tend to forget because they only think of him as the Penguin on the Batman television series). Glad you loved the movie; it's one of those rare cases where the sequel is as good as the original. And now for something completely different: J, I fell off my chair when you mentioned that you have never seen an episode of Star Trek! While I wrap my head around that (I grew up watching re-runs of the original series 6 nights week), let me tell you right now that you should not watch any of the Star Trek films that Echo sent you. Well, at least not yet, because if you've never seen the show the films won't make much sense to you. Pick a venue, sit down, and watch the original series (it's streaming on Paramount+; I dunno where else it might be showing) in order, but with one caveat: start with the first season episode "Where No Man has Gone Before." It's actually the second pilot for the series, which introduced Captain Kirk and most of the gang. It was originally broadcast as the third episode of the first season, but there were numerous changes (characters, costumes, sets) made between that pilot and the first regular episode shot ("The Corbomite Maneuver" which - confusingly - was the tenth episode broadcast; many television series were not broadcast in the order the episodes were made, a practice that still continues to this day) that it will be jarring a confusing to watch the episodes in the order they were broadcast. That said, after watching "Where No Man Has gone Before" you can watch the rest of the episodes in broadcast order (which is how I think Paramount+ lists them) and it won't make any difference as the show was not done in the serial storytelling style that is most Star Trek series use today. I think you will really enjoy watching the show, especially the first season (which is usually considered the best; not to say that Seasons 2 and 3 don't have great episodes, too). In fact, you could do a segment on your Patreon dedicated to just you watching Star Trek. There's 79 episodes in The Original Series, so that would keep you busy for awhile. Only after finishing that series would I recommend you watching the first 6 Star Trek films; then you'll understand what's going on and who all the characters are. The remaining films, unless Echo sent you the three newest films with Chris Pine as Kirk, all deal with the Enterprise crew from Star Trek: The Next Generation. Again, I would strongly recommend you watch that series first so that you learn who the characters are, or otherwise those films will make little or no sense to you. The Next Generation is another great series, although the first two seasons are rough; it really takes off in Season 3. Another suggestion: you might be tempted to watch the original Star Trek pilot, "The Cage," before anything else. I would hold off on doing so until after watching the first season of The Original Series, or at least after watching the two-part episode "The Menagerie." That will increase your enjoyment and understanding of what happens in "The Cage" tenfold. Whew! Sorry for the long winded comment. As you might be able to tell, I am a little passionate about Star Trek. I sincerely hope you try it out, even if it's not for reactions for the channel. I really, really think you'll enjoy it!
Lemmon, Matthau, Burgess, yeah! But as a European viewer you watch the film also because of the amazing Oscar winner Sophia Loren. A real legend, and especially in Europe a megastar of cinema.
😂The blanket is SO MUCH BETTER when it’s messed up anyway. But your reason is the best & I love that woman so much🤭. Poor dear. I mess crap up all the time & I would ABSOLUTELY do that. Love u & the copilots🖖
Really enjoyed this reaction. I was especially waiting for the bloopers at the end. I knew JL would like them. I have a movie suggestion for JL and anyone else who hasn't seen it. The movie is Of Mice and Men (1939) starring Burgess Meredith (Mick) and Lon Chaney Jr. (the Wolf Man) showing how good of an actor he really was. Spoiler Alert: have tissues nearby.
I just got a blanket like that. My sweet, wonderful, amazing, incredible husband passed away from heart failure on February 5th, 2023. We were together for ten beautiful years, and my mother-in-law made me a blanket with all of our favorite pictures. I love it. It's an absolutely beautiful blanket, and I'll have it forever. Now, I can wrap myself up with my husband. 🥺🥹
Whenever this man is genuinely upset, the dogs instantly move in to check on him. Those are some real ride or dies. A man and his dog(s), its a different kind of bond.
I love how his babies immediately know if he is upset or scared.and they jump right to his side every time.
That is so true.... if you treat a dog right that bond will not break and it shows.
"God remembered you pop" quote gets every time 🙏🏼

Agree 💯
Still have the odd couple 2 ;)
Big fan of Jack’s tombstone epitaph, though. Just says…
“Jack Lemmon In”
Burgess Meredith also played The Penguin in the Batman tv series.

You can say one thing and it isn't that funny but when an old bastard says it. It's hilarious.
Reminds me of Lloyd from Dumb and Dumber
"I desperately want to make love to a schoolboy"
We could only be so lucky to go out like he did. Having the time of your life at 95, then you just pop off one day sitting on the couch.

Hahaha same
You NEEEED to see Jack Lemon & Walter Matthau in their younger years in "The Odd Couple". They were comedy gold together right from the start. Plus, that movie is a bonafide classic. It was a huge hit when it came out in 1968 & is still beloved by any film buff who loves to laugh. Please add it to the list!

So glad you did the sequel These two are amazing. Can I recommend The Odd Couple with them. Or 12 Angry Men

So excited to see your reaction to the sequel as your reaction to the original is classic 😂
Your little buddies always make sure they daddy’s ok! So cute!

JL never thought he'd have to watch Mick die twice. Too bad there's not an alternate ending where John and Max fight Thunder Lips.

The Odd Couple II is a Must to WATCH TOO!! Very funny with Jack and Walter
When my girl died my aunt got me one of those blankets. I've never used it because it makes me sad, but every now and again I take it out and look at it.

Been waiting on this one! As always GREAT!
They're both classics. What a great sequel. These legends at their twilight!!
I've been waiting for this reaction! Not many sequels are just as good as good as the 1st. But this one definitely is; Maybe even better.
You really should check out the Odd Couple from 1968.
This used to be on HBO all the time. I’d always have to sit and finish it.
Right when I was thinking🐈 whip Jay did it LMAO
I guarantee you will love the original Odd Couple, with Matthau & Lemmon.
By the way, Ernest Borgnine played Cabbie in Escape From NY. 😎
Loved this reaction! Sorry you were hurt by Mick’s death, but you walking off and the edits just made me laugh. I’m sorry, it was so funny! ❤
Lemmon, Matthau, Burgess, yeah! But as a European viewer you watch the film also because of the amazing Oscar winner Sophia Loren. A real legend, and especially in Europe a megastar of cinema.
Houseboat.. El Cid..
Ernest Borgnine was the taxi driver in Escape From New York
“Blank The Man” t-shirts. We need those.
You probably already know, but the old dude in the glasses was the original penguin in Batman the tv series and of course Rocky’s trainer.
😂The blanket is SO MUCH BETTER when it’s messed up anyway. But your reason is the best & I love that woman so much🤭. Poor dear. I mess crap up all the time & I would ABSOLUTELY do that. Love u & the copilots🖖
Fun as always!!!
21:19 "Da GOAT!" lol
Really enjoyed this reaction. I was especially waiting for the bloopers at the end. I knew JL would like them. I have a movie suggestion for JL and anyone else who hasn't seen it. The movie is Of Mice and Men (1939) starring Burgess Meredith (Mick) and Lon Chaney Jr. (the Wolf Man) showing how good of an actor he really was. Spoiler Alert: have tissues nearby.
Great suggestion! Burgess Meredith also did several "Twilight Zone" episodes, as a fan I think he'd like those too.
@@B-a-t-m-a-n I agree.
Smokey And The bandit Pretty Funny Too Check It Out 😊
I don’t know if you are aware but Burgess Meredith is the Penguin in the original Batman series🎉🎉🎉
All three guys definitely "out kicked their coverage" Daryl Hannah was gorgeous back in the day
Isn't she married to Neil Young of all folks these days? 👴🤔
Great reaction.
Thanks J
Ernest Borgnine was the Cabbie from Escape From New York.
Runhbarb is like a sweet/sour/tangy kind of celery. It's popular in Appalachia, kinda surprised you never had it.
When the smaller dog started talking to you like Baxter in Anchorman lol.
