@@markwilliams6394 I first saw that movie when I was about 8 or 9, and when she came up out of the water in the opening scene I was in love! I had the honor of meeting her (extremely briefly sadly) later as an adult and she was even more beautiful in person -and very classy.
Being from the Twin Cities this movie has a special place in my heart. My grandpa lived around the corner from Tschida's Bakery. I remember seeing all the film equipment set up.
The dad was Burgess Meredith and he was a Legend. He was about 87 years old in this movie. His lines were improved. He passed 2 years later. The main characters in these movies are all film icons. These movies are so good.
"My son-in-law has the face of a mackerel." Asia And BJ, Grampa was also the original Penguin in Batman and Robin tv show in the 1960's. He was funny. You guys should watch the original The Odd Couple movie with both Walter and Jack. Walter is Oscar and Jack is Felix. They are hilarious and in their prime. Also I know you guys like Elvis Presley from your music channel so I think you would love the movie King Creole with Elvis Presley and Walter Matthau is the head local Gangster. It takes place in the 1950's. It's one of Elvis's darker more serious movies. And Some Like it Hot with Jack Lemmon and Marilyn Monroe. Both guys were in their prime. And he let the fish go to be in the lake with Grampa (his ashes) and his spirit for his sake because he lived so long (the fish and Grampa).
Actor trivia:? In addition to the legend stars, the woman who played Maria’s Mom (Maria Morgan Guilbert)was in the tv show “The Dick Van Dyke Show” in the 60s! She was the next door neighbor, Millie Helper!
To finish the Grumpy Old amen trilogy, you need to watch OUT TO SEA. It’s not a true sequel, but it’s got both Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon basically playing the same exact characters with different names, on a cruise together. It’s hilarious and fits so perfectly with these movies that they should have made it the third movie. (Except they weren’t married in the movie). Totally worth watching, and may favorite of the three movies. Also, a couple years after the grumpy old men movies, Jack Lemmon partnered up with James Garner to make another movie just like these, called MY FELLOW AMERICANS, except Lemmon and Garner are ex-presidents of the USA who hate each other and have to partner up. It feels like a grumpy old men movie also! I actually like Out to Sea and My Fellow Americans more for replay value than the Grumpy Old Men movies. All four are great!
In 1965, Walter Matthau and Art Carney were in a play called the Odd Couple. In 1970, the play was made into a movie with Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon. The reason they have such a good chemistry in Grumpy/Grumpier is because they had worked together before.
Not just worked together, they were real life friends off the set....they both past not far apart from each other, that was sad news. But yeah, Odd Couple movie was hilarious
These two movies will always be at the top for my favorites. I can watch them anytime. This one has one of the best friendship scenes of any movie. With everything that was going on and then Grandpa passes, Max brings the beer to the meet up spot and asks John what he wants to do. Jack simply replies with the question "Wanna get drunk?" to which Max says "Yeah" and that's it, that's all that needed to be said. Anyone that has had that friend their entire life knows this scene one way or the other and it's just beautiful. Cheers.
Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau were best friends in real life. They starred in several films together and are even buried in the same cementary. Matthau last in 2000 and Lemmon died almost exactly one yr later.
Walter Mathieau and Jack Lemmon have been friends for decades in real life. Not gonna lie, Sophia Lauren does it for me, I wish I could have seen more of her in her younger years, she is a stunner.
6:12 this here is how a lot of older people feel at times. They’ll feel all delighted they lasted so long (especially with how they ate) but at the same time feel sad that all the people they knew growing up are gone. From family member to friends to people they were acquainted with to those they hated they just feel like they were forgotten and are left alive to watch everyone go before them.
this was like the reunion of the legends of the 50s and 60s in one movie 30 years later , and i can`t believe you guys don`t know Sophia Loren , she is one of the most beautiful Women ever
My fav all time movie ‘quote’ was in the bloopers of this movie. “I’ve farted. And I’m afraid to move. “. 😂😂 💀 💀. And they way he delivered that line 🤣 🤣
God bless yall. We love rhis series. Sophia Loren reminds me of my Mom, who was an Italian beauty in her own right. Kinda tears me up lisrening to her accent. Another great movie with these 2 guys is " Out to Sea" The out takes are hilarious on that too. Ole granpas philosophy reminds me of my Dad. He was funny as hell
My wife and I live in Minnesota, and she is Swedish, and use to live near Wabasha, MN too. This is her favorite movie(with first one). We watch it every year!
Cannelloni is a kind of pasta that is rolled into a tube shape stuffed with cheese (so yeah, that's what he meant lol). Also yes, Pops would have caught a case today!!
Grumpy and Grumpier are wonderfully entertaining. It was a great decision to have each in a different season of the year. They compliment each other. Not a four-star movie but a sold three-star movie you can return to time and again.
The eternally beautiful Sofia Loren as Maria, the legendary Burgess Meredith as Pops. "City Slickers" is another awesome feel-good 90's comedy with Billy Crystal. The sequel is great too.
The guy playing the old grandpa is Burgess Meredith, known for 2 of the greatest episodes of the Twilight Zone from the 1960's: Time Enough At Last and The Obsolete Man.
Sophia Loren and Ann-Margret were two of the most beautiful women back in the day and today still. Some women don't seem to age and these two were part of that group. I remember some many of their movies. All around actresses unlike todays movie actress.
Hey guys, Happy New Year, BJ, you commented in another reaction that you watched the original Batman Tv series from the 60s. Burgess Meredith who was Mickey in Rocky and Grandpa in this film, played the Penquin in the Batman Series and was great. Burgess had a long illustrious career in film, tv and Broadway
This movie is loaded with iconic actors and actresses. Walter Matthau Jack lemmon Burgess Meredith Ann-Margret they are from a time of film that is Hollywood gold. You guys should start putting on your patreon classic movies with these performers and get a chance to watch their films. I know it's hard to catch everything through the film so know that Max was not jealous of John and Ariel's marriage he was just lonely. What is mentioning to his son how his wife was okay with breaking out in hives just to make his favorite pie was a fond memory he had of their marriage and their love. And at the end you assumed that the son and daughter did not get married but they mentioned at the chapel that they eloped so they didn't have to deal with all wedding craziness. I love your guys's reactions Happy New Year
Asia and BJ, these two classic actors were awesome back in their times. Burgess Meredith( old grandpa), was the was the original penguin in the old 1960s Batman TV series. If you like these actors, check out their movies from Classic Hollywood times👍♥️
I loved the reaction. I was lucky enough to work as an extra for 3 days on this film in the wedding scenes at the end. Had some great chats with the stars. Great fun.
In my humble opinion the second movie is better than the first. Don't get me wrong, I like them both and the acting chemistry between Jack Lemon and Walther Matthau is legendary and rarely seen thee days. But when you throw the acting and class of two women like Sophia Loren and Ann-Margret it makes it even better. Asia and BJ, look up noodling videos. People catching catfish with their bare hands.
Sad all three guys passed away. Should check out the movie Out to Sea with Jack and Walter as cruise dancers. It's hilarious watching Walter and his dance moves
To my knowledge, Burgess Meredith's first film was 1939's "Of Mice and Men" . It seems strange seeing Mick when he was so young. If he has older material, someone feel free to point it out👍
It is so much fun watching a hilarious move like this with you two, keep it up! Ann Margret and Sophia Loren were 54 and 61 years old respectively when this film was released... Not bad.
6:10 This movie is so point im from this area and grandpa Bob sat on the dock on the lake radio blasting Twins baseball could hear it clear across the whole lake. He passed of cancer
Sophia Loren one of Hollywoods greatest sex symbol icons. Back in the 1950's & 1960's she was extraordinarily beautiful. One of the last great beauties of the Golden Era of Hollywood, she is still alive and still doing movies. Sophia Loren is a 2 time Oscar winner and has a few golden Globes. She went from sex symbol/Pin-Up to serious actress. She is a great Italian goddess.
28:34, pretty sure "Marcello" is a reference to Marcello Mastroianni. Him and Sophia Loren were similar to... well, the only movie couple comparable was Spencer Tracy and Katherine Hepburne.
Nobody has mentioned the fact that bro was sleeping and trying to fight asleep the entire time You see how many times his eyes are rolling back in his head😂😂😂
The scene @5:47 with Burgess Meredith (Pops) is my favorite part of the movie. The Supermarket scene @9:25 was filmed at my local market two blocks from where I live.
I never saw this movie series but these older movies take me back to an era of my childhood. A vcr connected to a 13” tube tv with a dial on it. Might have seen a grumpy old men trailer a time or two before a movie I rented.
Anyone remember that Simpsons episode, back when everyone watched it, where Homer fishes for General Sherman? It's a great episode about Homer catching an old giant catfish and saving his marriage..so to speak. I always wonder if that scene was inspired by the Simpsons.
She said, "My son-in-law has the face of a mackerel." (A fish). Lol. So glad you guys watched this sequel. I love it just as much as the original. Grandpa Gustafson had a whole arch in this one that was so bittersweet. Love that character Burgess Meredith played. He was such a legend & so hilarious in these. Much love, guys..❤
Melany and Jacob did get married. In the church before Max and Maria's ceremony they quietly comment that they had eloped. You should also check out the movies "The Apartment" and "The Odd Couple".😊🖖

Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau were best friends in real life. They did 10 movies together and are buried just 50 feet from each other.
Ann Margaret and Sophia Loren. Two of the most beautiful women to ever grace this earth.❤❤
Sophia Loren is a legend. One of the most beautiful women ever. Check out her movies ..She's turning 90 this year.
And still a beautiful woman.
It’s just weird to think that the 4 of them probably knew each other for like 40+ years at this point. All 4 are legendary
Boy on a Dolphin.
Oh yes, my husband is Italian and he absolutely INSISTS on getting the Sophia Loren booth at Buca Di Beppo!🤣

Burgess Meredith (Pop) was the original penguin in the original Batman television series. He is an Icon and sorely missed.
Burgess Merediths lines in this one are the stuff of legends.
love the bacon story.

Oh yeah! And you gotta do "The Usual Suspects" from back in the 90's!!! Best mystery of that era, for sure. Check that one out as a prospect.
They could checkout the 1966 film (Batman) based on the Tv Series.
Burgess Meridith was a classically trained theater actor who was adept at comedy.
Actor trivia:? In addition to the legend stars, the woman who played Maria’s Mom (Maria Morgan Guilbert)was in the tv show “The Dick Van Dyke Show” in the 60s! She was the next door neighbor, Millie Helper!
not to mention playing Fran's Grandma in the TV Show "The Nanny" in the 1990s.
@@DannyCheekI never realized that. Love grandma yeta to pieces
They don't make actors & actresses like this anymore. Great job once again guys . 👍
Sophia Loren ❤❤❤
These movies are packed with legends and they never fail to lift the spirits. They cracked us up growing up and still do.
Loren not Lauren, she’s 150% Italian, yes… 150 !

Walter Matthau made a great spy comedy called “Hopscotch” that you’d love if you ever saw it.
