This game blew me away with its graphics and music when it came out in 1994, and it still looks absolutely beautiful today. My favourite stage was always the Ice Cap Zone, closely followed by Lava Reef.
Man this brings back so many childhood memories. The visuals, the level design, the music. Perfection. This is one of the only games I can say with confidence that I completely _mastered._

Does anyone remember how much it cost to buy this game when it was released. I remember saving up for ages and buying it with a bag of coins in 1994. I was only 8. I remember it being like £60 plus which adjusted for inflation must be about £110 which seems mental, does anyone remember?
Can we actually all respect the hours this guy must have put in to memorise everything important, the sphere stages and how log it must have taken to beat this game, this is no easy feat, much harder than any mario game and much more enjoyable. The game is a piece of art.

I was born in 2002, and I played Sonics 1, 2 and 3. I'm forever grateful my grandparents took care of these games by the time I was born and later able to play video games as a little kid. Although I've never beaten the games I still fondly loved the game and the OSTs. I'm glad recordings like this exist as well.
Same, somehow my older brother beat that stage on the old Genesis, and after that i just gave up on the game. Good thing I got the collection one for the ps3 I'm gonna try and beat the game.
I took like 30 mins to finally figure out how to use it. I also couldn't do the special stages so I had the agony to complete the whole game without the ease of super sonic.

Sonic 2 was my first Sonic game, but Sonic 3 was magical to me. I don’t think it’s the best Sonic game, but every other Sonic game has failed to replicate the sheer magic and grand adventure of Sonic 3. I miss the 90’s.

I used to love playing this game when I was young. Now, 20 years later, after coming back to watch this, I must say how awesome the music is in this game! It's not something you think of as a 12 year old, but now, I can appreciate how well the game was put together, considering it was early/mid 90's game.

Matt H yeah I think so aswell... Sonic 1 feels more like an adventure platforming game and less so about going fast. Sonic CD feels like an open world, objective-based game where you can choose to get all the Time Stones, destroy all of the Generators and Metal Sonic Generators, or do both. Sonic 2 feels like a game that wants you to go fast most of the time. There are a few slow levels (Mystic Cave, Metropolis) But they are well designed. Sonic 3&K feels like a mixture of Sonic 1 and Sonic 2. Angel Island Zone is a fast-paced level with a lot of obstacles (Like Green Hill Zone and Starlight Zone) and Sandopolis Zone is a slow paced level with many obstacles as-well (Like Labyrinth Zone and Marble Zone).

I loved this game so much growing up. My mom never spent a lot of money on video games but i used to rent this from blockbuster or hollywood vid weekend after weekend so she bought me this. I was always so delighted with how you could plus this and sonic 2 into the knuckles cart. That was just so dope to me. Two of my favorite games.
When I first latched Sonic 3 onto S&K, the possibilities seemed endless. Gathering all the super emeralds was a pain the proverbial neck, but well worth it.
I've played this game, but it was part of a Genesis collection for the NDS. There were plenty fun moments here and there, its fair share of troubles, and moments that made me a bit nervous. And I'm now willing to bet that after hearing the history behind this, a lot of ambition was definitely put into this game.
This is the game that made me respect Sonic as a hero. Jesus Christ the length he went to just to get that Master Elmerald back for Knuckles. Knuckles the same person who had been tormenting him for the majority of the game and even attacked him. But Sonic understood through it all that Knuckles was played by Eggman and that getting that Master Emerald back was the right thing to do. That shit is some real integrity mixed with willpower. As a kid that scene at the end where they returned the Emerald and Knuckles sees them off was soooo damn satisfying.
I remember playing Sonic 1-3 when i was 7 years old. Now my son who is 7 this year, plays this game and it had me flashed back to my childhood. Now I, at 30 years old, had this game installed on my android and at times join my son to play his current favourite, Sonic the Hedgehog. Made me feel nostalgic! 😃
I love this game!! Thank you for doing an indepth and complete playthrough of this. The old sonics were the best, full of intrigue in how they captured the themes of the zones. But I'm sure i speak for all complesionists when I say... ... That ball sound was the bane of my fucking existence.
This is actually my favorite Sonic game I ever played by a huge margin. The Chaos Emeralds are easy to get, and you get plenty of chances. Also those newer powerups really come in handy. I played this on Sonic's Mega Collection on PS2, and I couldn't stop playing! Bought it at Media Play back when it still existed. Wish they remastered that Mega Collection for PS4 because it had every Sonic game I remember so very well.
The music in this one kicks total ass. Despite what Sega says, I am convinced MJ did the music. Too much of it sounds like something he would have made.
@@CaptainCoolzCT- He definitely did HydroCity.... that one has the most references to his style. No other Sonic track has that kind of sound. It carries the weight of that distinct sound no one else has been able to successfully replicate. The whole game is littered with MJ nuances.....but it's the most obvious in Hydro City.

I never get tired of watching Sonic The Hedgehog , Way To Go old great one , there’s some rings that I wasn’t aware of in 2 places . I had to use a freaking game genie to get all of the Super Emeralds , but you just breezed right thru . Very Proud of you I am . You truly are the Best at what you do .

I didn’t know untill just watching this video. 🤯 I’m 35 I was 7-8 when this game out. I beat 1, 2, and 3 all individually. NEVER came close to collecting all 7 emeralds. Hell I NEVER even knew about those mega huge emerald crystals. Nor the game was a continuous. After that final level in 3 I’m like what’s happening here 😂.. this made my day

I only played this game because I saw my brothers playing many many years ago as a child. I’m grateful they gave me a chance to play it because it my most favorite game of all time. I am 37 years old, but these walkthoughs bring back so many good memories of my childhood. Thank you for posting!

The progressive level design. The soundtrack. The varying mechanics that change with every level. The responsiveness of your actions in sound and in graphics. Even the subtlety of the philosophical implication of you having to save the small souls of the birds, trapped in the evil bodies of enemies. They truly don't make them like this anymore! Edit: I will never forget how Carnival Night Zone made me feel as a kid. So ominous

I used to love playing this game when I was young. Now, 20 years later, after coming back to watch this, I must say how awesome the music is in this game! It's not something you think of as a 12 year old, but now, I can appreciate how well the game was put together, considering it was early/mid 90's game.

Sonic 1 feels more like an adventure platforming game and less so about going fast.
Sonic CD feels like an open world, objective-based game where you can choose to get all the Time Stones, destroy all of the Generators and Metal Sonic Generators, or do both.
Sonic 2 feels like a game that wants you to go fast most of the time. There are a few slow levels (Mystic Cave, Metropolis) But they are well designed.
Sonic 3&K feels like a mixture of Sonic 1 and Sonic 2. Angel Island Zone is a fast-paced level with a lot of obstacles (Like Green Hill Zone and Starlight Zone) and Sandopolis Zone is a slow paced level with many obstacles as-well (Like Labyrinth Zone and Marble Zone).

I loved this game so much growing up. My mom never spent a lot of money on video games but i used to rent this from blockbuster or hollywood vid weekend after weekend so she bought me this. I was always so delighted with how you could plus this and sonic 2 into the knuckles cart. That was just so dope to me. Two of my favorite games.

I've played this game, but it was part of a Genesis collection for the NDS. There were plenty fun moments here and there, its fair share of troubles, and moments that made me a bit nervous. And I'm now willing to bet that after hearing the history behind this, a lot of ambition was definitely put into this game.
I could sense the pain of getting stuck in the floaty area in Death Egg for so long with just that one last button lol

This is the game that made me respect Sonic as a hero. Jesus Christ the length he went to just to get that Master Elmerald back for Knuckles. Knuckles the same person who had been tormenting him for the majority of the game and even attacked him. But Sonic understood through it all that Knuckles was played by Eggman and that getting that Master Emerald back was the right thing to do. That shit is some real integrity mixed with willpower. As a kid that scene at the end where they returned the Emerald and Knuckles sees them off was soooo damn satisfying.

I remember playing Sonic 1-3 when i was 7 years old. Now my son who is 7 this year, plays this game and it had me flashed back to my childhood. Now I, at 30 years old, had this game installed on my android and at times join my son to play his current favourite, Sonic the Hedgehog. Made me feel nostalgic! 😃

This is actually my favorite Sonic game I ever played by a huge margin. The Chaos Emeralds are easy to get, and you get plenty of chances. Also those newer powerups really come in handy. I played this on Sonic's Mega Collection on PS2, and I couldn't stop playing! Bought it at Media Play back when it still existed. Wish they remastered that Mega Collection for PS4 because it had every Sonic game I remember so very well.
The music in this one kicks total ass. Despite what Sega says, I am convinced MJ did the music. Too much of it sounds like something he would have made.

Too bad I only had a SNES as a kid. Even though I never played this, it still has nostalgic vibes to it, and it looks like a great game.

Even the subtlety of the philosophical implication of you having to save the small souls of the birds, trapped in the evil bodies of enemies.
