Brittany Murphy was an actress who appeared in a string of critically acclaimed films, including 'Clueless,' 'Girl, Interrupted' and '8 Mile'.
Murphy was born November 10, 1977, in Atlanta, Georgia, to parents Sharon Murphy and Angelo Bertolotti. Murphy's father was heavily involved in organized crime and spent most of his life in and out of prison. As a result, Murphy's parents split when she was only two years old.
Murphy and her mother moved to Edison, New Jersey, shortly after the divorce. It was during this time that Murphy became interested in acting and performing. To encourage her talents, Murphy's mother enrolled her in Verne Fowler's School of Dance and Theater in Colonia, New Jersey, when she was five years old. It was there that Murphy took dance and voice lessons until she was in her early teens.
By the time Murphy was eight, she had determined that she wanted to be a star. She began pushing her mother to help her get headshots, hire a manager and drive her into Manhattan for auditions. When Murphy was 12, her mother finally relented. Almost immediately, Murphy began landing jobs for television commercials. From there, she began making brief appearances on sitcoms such as Murphy Brown and Boy Meets World. Elated by her success, Murphy and her mother relocated to Los Angeles in 1991 when the actress was 14 years old to further Murphy's acting career. She got her big break in TV that same year, as a regular on the sitcom Drexell's Class. When she wasn't working on set, Brittany spent her time studying at John Burroughs High School in Burbank, California.
In 1995, Murphy entered the national spotlight in the popular film Clueless, starring opposite Alicia Silverstone. A modern take on the popular Jane Austen novel Emma, the movie was a surprise hit, grossing more than $11 million in its first weekend at the box office. Murphy was suddenly a star.
'Girl, Interrupted,' '8 Mile,' 'Sin City,' 'King of the Hill'
After the success of Clueless, Murphy went on to star in films like Girl, Interrupted (1999), with Winona Ryder and Angelina Jolie, 8 Mile (2002) with rapper Eminem, and Sin City (2005), with a star-studded cast that included Bruce Willis, Mickey Rourke and Jessica Alba. Additionally, the actress enjoyed the long-running voice role of Luanne on the popular animated show King of the Hill.
In December 2009, Murphy's life seemed to be taking an unfortunate turn. Her husband, screenwriter Simon Monjack, was hospitalized for health problems. Later in the month, it was revealed that she had also been unexpectedly dropped from her project The Caller, for which she had been shooting in Puerto Rico. Initial reports indicated that she had been fired from the film, but Murphy denied the rumors.
Shortly after the news that she had lost the job due to her poor attitude and spotty attendance on set, Murphy died on December 20, 2009 in her home in the Hollywood Hills. Initially reported as a heart attack, her death was later attributed to acute pneumonia and severe anemia, her condition worsened by heavy doses of cold medications. The actress was only 32 years old. Her husband died five months later.
At the time of her passing, rumors circulated regarding possible drug use or an eating disorder contributed to her death. Her father offered another theory in November 2013, when he released the results of tests performed on a sample of Murphy's hair that showed exposure to rat poison.
Another theory regarding Murphy's death surfaced around that time: According to The Hollywood Reporter, both Murphy and her husband believed that they were being watched by the U.S. government. Murphy reportedly served as a witness for Julia Davis, a Homeland Security employee who revealed problems within the organization.
The topic of Murphy's mysterious passing was revived for the 2020 documentary Brittany Murphy: An ID Mystery, which followed her father's investigative efforts before his own death in 2019 and explored the possibility that the actress was poisoned.
In 2006, Murphy landed another voice role in the big screen feature Happy Feet and featured prominently in the thriller The Dead Girl, though her career prospects seemed to be dimming by this point. Following the romantic comedy The Ramen Girl (2008), she starred in another thriller, Across the Hall (2009), and a TV movie adaptation of Nora Roberts' Tribute (2009). Murphy posthumously starred in Abandoned (2010) and Something Wicked (2014).

Hey Scott, first I love all your videos. I wanted to say that I grew up with Brittany. We went to school together for 8 years, did school plays and musicals together, sang with her, and when I was I. 7th grade and she was in 6th we “dated” for a few months. We stayed close even after she went to Hollyweird. She came back to Edison a month after 8 Mile was released in 2002 and she was the special guest for the Edison, NJ Xmas tree lighting ceremony. We hadn’t spoken for a couple of years, but as soon as she saw me, she ran up to me and gave me a huge hug (to the shock of my wife lol) and after introductions were made, she would not let go of my 2 children who were 2yrs old and 3 months old at the time. She absolutely adored children and she wouldn’t let them go. It was such a wonderful time and she made my kids feel like they were the only thing that mattered that night. On the day she passed away, Sharon (her mom) called my mom after she was pronounced and my mom immediately called me. I was working for Comcast, and she told me what happened and I was crushed. We were going to fly to the west coast for her funeral but it was on Xmas eve, so we just couldn’t make it happen that short of notice. Sadly, 9 years later to that exact day, 12/20/2018, my own mom passed away, so it’s been hard the last couple of years getting through 12/20. Brittany was a loving, funny, smart, talented girl with a giggle and a laugh that could put you into a trance. Thank you for making this Video Scott. Great work as always.

Just my two cents but i feel like her life took a turn for the worse once she married that man. He seemed so wrong for her in so many ways. I’ve read many accounts of people who knew him who say he was extremely manipulative and a con artist. To top it off apparently him and her mother admitted to sleeping in the same bed together after Brittany passed. I’ve always felt both the husband and the mother were extremely suspect.

Thank you for this wonderful video. After I’ve become ill with with mycotoxin poisoning from mold I understand what both Brittney’s went through. You do get hallucinations and a strange feeling of your home that’s contaminated. There were three of us living in a moldy home for 9 years. We all had a huge list of symptoms, some different than each others and some similar. My son’s symptoms are very similar to Brittney Murphy with the sunken black circle eyes, collapsing, difficulty breathing. I had hallucinations, nose bleeds, brain fog, loss of hair, anxiety and depression. Daughter had sever yeast infections, heart issues, extreme weight loss and gut issues and so much more. Mycotoxins breaks down your immune system and completely weakens you. You appear drunk or on drugs. I 100 percent believe all three, both Brittney’s and Simon were poisoned from MYCOTOXINS from molds like Aspergillus and Stachybotrys chartarum that grow in water damaged buildings. The metals found in the autopsy are the same metals found in people with mycotoxin illness. Mycotoxins also cause anemia. Both Brittany and Simon’s parents were spot on when they said mold was the cause of their deaths. Hopefully mold will be understood and recognized like lead, radon and asbestos.

I am from India, I spent my teenage watching Hollywood movies and never I could imagine my life without those exemplary movies and the brilliant acting of those fantastic actors and actresses. Incomparable to the class and quality of the movies, those movies are one of those few elements that made my life complete. She was one of my favourite actresses whose pure heavenly smile used to purify my soul. This video brought tears in my eyes..

She has such presence onscreen. I remember hearing about her passing and being so shocked and shaken. I would watch anything that she was in...she was so versatile...comedy..drama. She was an exceptional actress. I have her song with Paul Okenfold on my fave playlist.."Faster Kill Pussycat"...when it plays I always smile. She had a great voice. If youve never heard it then check it out. RIP Britt

I recently saw a show about Britney, & as I understand, if she would have been taken to the hospital they said she could have been survived the pneumonia she was suffering from. Why they didn’t take her is beyond me. The drugs in her system just exacerbated her situation, sadly. When I saw Don’t Say a Word, I knew she was going to go far as she was exceptional in that movie, but I loved them all. Bless her sweet soul. Thanks for video Scott!

Thank you for doing a video on Brittany Murphy. I remember getting the news from some old High School friends I ran into while out Christmas shopping that year. We were all in shock! She was such a beautiful person and very gifted actor. She’s resting now where my Grandmother is at Forest Lawn. It’s beautiful there. My Grandma died tragically very young when I was just about a year old. I hope to be buried there myself when my time comes, hopefully no time soon. I miss Brittany. I remember still being in shock over her death when the news about Corey Haim came out. He passed just about 3 months later from pneumonia too. How devastating. I still cry over him and Brittany.

I think might have had a lot to do with the Toxic mold in their house as well mix of the prescription medications they took to combat their illness which turned out to be deadly. So sad man.
